It’s been 11 years since Leo froze to death and Kate dropped his frozen ass off the side of that door. But that didn’t stop them from re-teaming.

This time though, their relationship seems even more doomed than the one on the big boat.

Based on the book by Richard Yates, the movie “Revolutionary Road” tells the tale of a married couple living the perfect life in suburban Connecticut.

Underneath their strong exteriors bubbles emotions and fears of leading an unfulfilled life. The film, directed by Winslet’s husband Sam Mendes, was shot by Roger Deakins, long-time Coen Brothers cinematographer (this film is the reason he couldn’t shoot their latest, “Burn After Reading”). The song in the trailer is “Wild Is The Wind” by the always amazing Nina Simone.

It will be interesting to see how the film turns out, thanks to TV’s “Mad Men” which mines some of the same material that Yates’ novel touches upon. The film opens, for your consideration, on December 26th.

For the past several years, big blockbusters have been getting released on IMAX but none of them, until “The Dark Knight,” utilized the IMAX cameras to film sequences.

The scenes shot in the format were amazing, crystal clear and completely enveloped audiences into the experience. Now, everyone’s favorite artist in explosions, Michael Bay, has gotten his hands on some IMAX cameras. He’ll be using the cameras to shoot key sequences (much like “The Dark Knight”) in “Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen.” This can either be one of the coolest or most painful decisions ever.

Michael Bay can shoot action, but “Transformers” sometimes felt like visual overload with all of the transforming, fireballs and moving parts. Now imagine that on a 12-story screen. Hopefully the open frame that IMAX is shot in will allow Bay to have more work space.

Either way, it’s super cool that filmmakers are embracing this technology and striving to help make their films utterly breathtaking.

Hansard showcased powerful acoustic guitar and heartfelt vocals that beautifully complemented Irglova’s piano melodies and demure voice.

Their set list included songs performed in “Once,” including their Academy-Award winning “Falling Slowly,” along with pieces from their self-titled album. The simplistic musical harmony and tender chemistry between the couple defined their performance.

Thankfully, the slight dry spell at the video store is over and now the re-editions of classic films and summer favorites will be spilling into your favorite house of rental. Here are a few from this week that might pique your interest.

Sex and the City

I’ve spent plenty of time watching reruns of old “SATC” episodes and its an enjoyable show, so i’ll give this movie a shot. It’s pretty clear from the trailer that there isn’t going to be anything groundbreaking but more of a mini-series of episodes strung together with some big budget gloss. Miranda is going to be neurotic. Charlotte is going to be happy-go-lucky. Samantha will sleep with someone. Carrie is going to get with Mr. Big. But with this film, fans of the series get what very few TV fans get - more time with their favorite characters. Now we just need that “Arrested Development” film.

The Godfather Collection

About seven or eight years after its last DVD incarnation comes the ultimate edition of one of cinema’s treasures (minus Sofia Coppola in “Part III”). Francis Coppola has gone through and frame-by-frame done a digital re-master of the films, which I’m sure is a treat in the Blu-Ray edition. While the previous edition was quite good, the special features in this set is just astounding with tons of brand new documentaries. Do yourself a favor and set aside a piggy bank to save up for this set which will set you back between $50 and $70 depending on the format you buy it in.

Leatherheads

George Clooney took what he learned from the Coen Brothers and made a straight-up screwball comedy. While not everything works in the film, it’s good to see Clooney trying all kinds of different styles in the films that he has directed so far (”Confessions of a Dangerous Mind,” “Good Night and Good Luck”). Jon Krasinski, Clooney and, even, Renee Zellweger pull off the fast-paced dialogue quite well. In short, it’s a romantic comedy that any guy would enjoy because there’s plenty of pigskin action to fill up those nights when ESPN isn’t playing any football.

This may be tooting Austin’s horn a bit, but Fantastic Fest is one of the best film festivals, period. Chock full of the foremost genre films yet to come out, FF is a film festival that is always fun and doesn’t take itself too seriously. With badges selling out months and months in advance, AMD and FF have decided to add a pretty cool feature to their Web site. Until September 20th, there are five features and five short films on the site http://www.fantasticfest.com/sites/fantasticfest/online/ that can be viewed for free. So if you can’t make it down to Austin or didn’t get your badge on time (the 2009 badges go on sale Saturday), feast your eyes on some pretty crazy stuff all with the click of your cursor.
