Matt Sears is local Chattanoogan wood craftsman, and he is really good at it. The really cool thing though is that he uses a large amount of used wood to create his pieces. To quote directly from his site:

Haskel Sears’ design and production choices (what we make and how we make it) are based upon green principles, progressive design and sustainable development. Simply put, Matt deeply believes that wasting wood is a serious wrong.

So he uses reclaimed woods, sourced regionally. His lumber ranges from tear-down projects to wood milled years ago, from salvage finds to commercial waste. Some of the wood has additional character from its first use, including scars and marks from nails and fasteners; other pieces are as untouched as the day they were cut.

Creative sustainability is always excellent!
Worthy inspiration for whatever creative field you are in.

Inspired | Typographic Posters

TypographicPosters is a gem of inspiration. The site is very nicely organized by each designer’s name on the left side and has each designer’s site + contact info listed above their pieces.

The thumbnails are quite sizable, and once you click on those, some of the full size images are very very large. From swiss modern to very heavily illustrated, you can find plenty of posters to fill your typographical cup. This is meant for inspiration though, so don’t steal unless you want to get noticed.

WPtouch: wordpress on iPhone

So here is a first. Im trying out the Wordpress app via iPhone and its quite nice for short blogging. I’ve also installed the WPtouch plugin for the blog so now it is very iPhone friendly. Here is a preview of what it looks like if you don’t have the most coveted telephone on the planet.

Inspired | Penguin & Pelican

Unless you are a graphic designer living under a rock you are already familiar with Penguin and Pelican book covers. Designer Phil Baines, who worked for Penguin designed many Pelican book covers. However, both companies hired a number of different designers to create the covers. There is a book featuring Baines and hundreds of his covers entitled Penguin By Design. I’ve always loved these beautiful covers with their simple concepts and thought I’d share a few of my favorites.

Family Force 5 was in town so we decided to go. This show had zero promotion, which was a shame, but it was a whole lot of fun. This video is of their last song with about 50 people jumping up on stage.
