Don’t forget to watch my new show tomorrow night at 9PM ET on the Cooking Channel!
Y’all it’s finally here! What has been a labor of real love and devotion is finally premiering tomorrow evening. I’m in NYC right now getting ready for the big day tomorrow.

If you haven’t heard by now, I’ve got a new show that will be airing on the Cooking Channel called, “Not My Mama’s Meals.” In it, I’ll be takin’ my mama’s famous dishes, which are known for plenty of butter, and making ‘em just a little lighter. That way y’all can feel good about enjoying our style of Southern cooking every day of the week, and not just for Sunday supper.

I’ll tell you, it’s been a real adventure, and I’m blessed to have such a talented and supportive family and team on my side. I’m real excited that Mom’s going to be making some special visits on my show to try my version of her recipes, and we’ll see which one wins! Now, I know that my recipes are delicious, but I think you’ll be surprised that we find that sometimes you just can’t touch a classic.

Y’all can learn more about the show on the Cooking Channel website, or I’m going to be on the Today Show Thursday morning, and I’ll be on Fox & Friends on Wednesday, January 11th. You can check your local listings for times.

I just can’t express how I excited I am to share this with y’all and I hope that you will enjoy it just as much as I have. I look forward to hearing your comments.

Remember, catch “Not My Mama’s Meals”, tomorrow, Wednesday, January 4th at 9 PM ET on the Cooking Channel.

Love y’all,
Bobby

I’ve Got a Question for Y’all!

I’m busy in the kitchen lightening up some of Mom’s recipes, and want to know what y’all want!
Hey y’all- Bobby here!

So as some of you have probably heard already, I’ve got a knack for making my mama’s recipes just a little bit healthier. It’s sort of become a passion of mine. I love working out, and (trying to) eat right, so much so, that I’ve decided to keep pursuing it.

Now, I love my mama’s cookin’- I grew up on it. But as we’ve always said in my family, it’s all about moderation. And that’s where I come in! I want to take some of Mom’s classic recipes and make ‘em more weeknight-friendly. You know, something that you can look forward to after work during the week, and maybe not just for Sunday supper.

Did y’all see me recently on The Chew? I had such a blast, but most importantly, I wanted to show y’all just how easy it is to take some of the fat out of recipes without sacrificing the flavor. Don’t worry, if you missed the episode, you watch it here.

And in January, I’ll be able premiering my new show, “Not My Mama’s Meals” on The Cooking Channel where I’ll be doing exactly that- taking my mom’s famous recipes, and trimming just a little bit of the fat and calories.

That’s where y’all come in. I want to hear from you and know which of my mom’s recipes you’d like to see me lighten up, so go ahead and tell me in the comments below!

Love y’all,
Bobby

In case you missed us, Jamie and I just wrapped up our book tour for Get Fired Up. We had to cut it a little short, but we’re looking into rescheduling some of our dates, because we definitely don’t want to miss seeing y’all!
What’s up, y’all?

In case you missed us, Jamie and I just wrapped up our book tour for Get Fired Up. We had to cut it a little short, but we’re looking into rescheduling some of our dates, because we definitely don’t want to miss seeing y’all!

Jamie and I had a lot of fun on the road, and we got some great photos during our tour. Being on the road can be really crazy with really long hours, but it’s always worth it when we get to meet so many different people. I wouldn’t change it for anything!

Here’s a look at some of our adventures the last couple of weeks.

Me and Jamie goofin’ around on AOL’s You’ve Got Video.

Here’s me cheesing it up during our satellite media tour for MTV.

See? This is what I mean. We have the best time meeting our fans. Here we are at a Wegman’s in Bridgewater, NJ.

Thanks to everyone that came out and showed their support. We hope you love our new book as much as we do, and we hope to see y’all soon!

Love y’all,

The Great Steak Challenge, Part Dos!

I know Jamie’s already filled y’all in with the details for Beringer’s Great Steak Challenge, but I’m so revved up about it that I wanted to throw in my two cents!
Howdy y’all,

Jamie and I are excited to be back with Beringer. Last year was fun- we had a real good time doin’ it. You know this year they changed the format for the Great Steak Challenge to where Jamie and I feel like it’ll be better for the contestants. And it’s definitely better for Jamie and me, too.

It’ll make for a better, more well rounded contest. Last year, people had to go to regional cook-offs all over. It was this call to outdoor cooks and grillers to come to this location and cook in front of a huge crowd, in front of Jamie and me, and in front of people that were judgin’ you. And we some people really struggle because of it. This year, what they’re doing is they’re encouraging everybody to submit their recipe via online. So, of the thousands of entries that’ll be sent in with a steak recipe paired with a Beringer wine, 30 people will be chose. And they’ll be sent flip cameras, instead of having to go someplace to do it front of people. Like, you could have your girlfriend with a flip camera at your house, and you do your steak recipe and pair it with a Beringer right there on a video, and then boom! You email it to ‘em and there’s a whole lot less pressure, and it’s a cleaner, simpler format overall.

Jamie and me think it’ll make for a better contest, and actually that to me makes it feel like there’s some longevity to it. Like this contest can continue to go on, and I hope that it will. I hope that they’ll continue to invite Jamie and me back every year, ‘cause it’s been a lot of fun. We’ve met tons of people that are just like us, you know, that like to cook like we do and pass down family recipes, and share stories. It’s good stuff.

We had a shoot the other week over at Mama’s house where we shot some photos and video that Beringer will send over to different vendors to promote the contest. And, this is important to note, Jamie and I are excited about how closely we work with America’s Second Harvest, and things that can really make a difference in your hometown. Well, Beringer is donating $1 from each bottle of wine they sell in November and December to local food banks. We’re so excited about that.

And I can’t believe I forgot to mention- the grand prize is $25,000 and a week’s stay for two in Napa Valley.

Some people might be really nervous about entering a contest like this because it’s so much money, and there are so many entries. People might feel a lot of pressure. But the good thing about this contest is that there are no professional chefs allowed. If 75% of your income is from cooking food, you’re ineligible for the contest. This is for everyday backyard grillers. People that just have a solid, strong steak recipe and can pair it with a Beringer wine.

So let’s have fun, y’all!

What the heck is physiological stasis?

When I hurt my back, I didn’t let it hurt my diet. Here’s some easy tips to bring some flavor to any kind of healthy meal.
What’s up, y’all?

Thanks for checkin’ out my blog. I promise I’ll try to keep this as interesting as possible. I’m not a man of very many words, but I saw how much fun Jamie was having with his blog, and I figured that I would give it a try and see what all the fuss was about.

Okay, so. What’s been going on with me?

I just got back into the gym after three weeks out with a bad back. It’s kind of a funny story. So y’all know that I like to go to the gym, and one of the things I’ve been trying to work up to is the 225 lbs. bench press, which is the same amount they test aspiring rookies with at the NFL Combine, to see how many they can do in a row. Right now my record is 14. Which isn’t bad until you consider I saw a guy on TV at the NFL Combine pop out 49 without skippin’ a beat! Just boom, boom, boom! He made number 48 look just like number one.

Well, my competitive side in me took over and I tried to keep up. Y’all, I only got to 10 before I arched my back and felt something pull and I was down for the count. Can you believe that?

I was pretty upset because I knew with an injured back I couldn’t go to the gym for a while. Not only that, but traveling has been a real pain in the neck because flying in the upright position for hours at a time only made my back hurt worse. It was murder. Murdaaah!

On one of my flights, I picked up an issue of Esquire magazine. It’s a pretty interesting magazine, but this particular issue had something about “physiological stasis” in it. Now, I’m not real familiar with the term, but from what I remember, the definition of that term is negating your vices with equal amounts of exercise. And I was like, “That’s me! That’s the definition of me.” Just because I go to the gym, doesn’t mean that I always eat like I should. I mean, I’m a regular guy- I drink beer and eat french fries and mayonnaise. It’s like, you know, if I had a few beers last night with my burger, then I’m going to have to get some extra cardio in at the gym.

So, anyway, now that I’ve been out with my back hurt, I’ve been doing a lot of cooking at home to help balancing out not going to the gym. It’s been a lot of chicken and brown rice. And it gets so boring! I’ve been trying to do something different with the rice, just to help keep it interesting, and I thought I would share some of those things with y’all.

With the rice, this is really easy, I get that boil-in-a-bag rice. It’s the best thing in the world. It’s a little bag, and it’s the perfect amount for one person, and then I totally just jazz it up. You know, I’ll do fresh okra and tomatoes and mix that in with the cooked rice. Or pour it over the rice. Or pour it over the chicken, over the rice. Sometimes, I’ll use black beans; you know, I’ll just add all kinds of different vegetables to the rice and then serve that with either a fish, like tuna steak, or a chicken breast. And then a side of veggies, like I’ll blanch asparagus or I’ll throw some on my Paula Deen indoor grill.

And you know what I’ve neglected that I’ve been tryin’ to do lately? I eat breakfast now. I used to be really bad about not eating breakfast, and then going to the gym and working out, and then finding myself starving by the afternoon. So I’ve made sure to start eating breakfast. I woke up this morning at 6 a.m. and had a nice bowl of cornflakes and an egg. It could be a boiled egg, or even a skillet-fried egg. Making sure that I get that first meal in has already started making me feel better. It makes my metabolism feel better; and I feel more satisfied in the evenings when I eat dinner, so I can eat less.

And that’s all tied up into me not being to the gym. I’ve had to really work hard to find a balance in order to keep my shape up and these tips have really helped. And they’re easy enough that really anyone can do them.

Well, y’all, that’s all I’ve got for this week. Stay tuned, and I’ll keep you updated with more tips and tricks I learn about!

See y’all,

Thanks for checking out my new blog. I am excited to share some ideas, recipes and routines that I use every day to help me stay as healthy as I can be.
Thanks for checking out my new blog. I am excited to share some ideas, recipes and routines that I use every day to help me stay as healthy as I can be. It’s not easy with mom’s table just around the corner and the delicious food at The Lady and Son’s right outside my office door.

I am so lucky to have a great trainer and even better friend in Coach Sam Carter. He is the main motivator in my workout routines. I’m going to share some tips that even without Sam standing over y’all will get you results and make you feel better.

A few of the benefits to leading an active and healthy lifestyle are:

-It’s great for your heart

-You will look good and feel even better

-Helps fight sickness

-Energize yourself

-Makes you mentally sharper

-It’s free!

I’m going to start my new section just like a workout, with a warm-up. Here is a great healthy recipe for Fish Fajitas that you can work into your weekly meal plan that is easy enough to change up (Chicken, beef, shrimp instead of fish. Switch up the toppings.) and is good for your body but better for your taste buds.

-Now drop and give me twenty.
