We’ve been taking a couple of weekend trips lately, and I thought I’d take a moment to post the pictures from the various weekends. The first was a trip out to Arnold, CA — which is about an hour south of Lake Tahoe, for a weekend with some friends. The second was an exciting weekend a few weeks back when we headed down to Monterey, CA for a day of Whale Watching and the Monterey Aquarium. Check out the photos.

Like I said in an earlier post, I apologize for my absense, however it’s hard to think of witty and interesting things to go on about — when I’m using up all my creativity from posting on twitter. Regardless, though, I grabbed the latest version of Safari today from Apple — and it’s a pretty sweet web browser.

For those that have been around these parts for a while, you have probably seen my various advertisements for Firefox. Even on my mac, I’ve been a huge supporter of the ‘Fox.. but I think the latest enhancements to Safari are enough to warrant my conversion. The fact that it’s blazing fast and has some great new UI features. As a mac user, Google has yet to release a version of Chrome that I can use — though that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t. Using a browser based on Webkit (Chrome or Safari) is the fastest experience you’ll have on the web.

On a related note, I logged into The Diatribe admin interface today for the first time in a month or so — and I was pleasantly surprised. At some point, I upgraded to Wordpress 2.7 — which has an entire new Admin UI. It’s much more user friendly and easier to navigate. Serves me right for not posting sooner.

I can’t make any promises for more frequent posting — though I’ll do my best

It’s official. Barak H. Obama has taken the Presidential Oath of Office and is now the 44th President of the United States of America, despite John Roberts’ best attempt to invalidate the oath (just kidding.. it was obviously an honest mistake).

Regardless, it was great to watch the Inauguration coverage on CNN yesterday followed by all of the highlights from the Inaugural balls. Barak and Michelle looked like they were having the time of their lives — as I would hope.

Following the tradition of Presidential transition, George W., left a note for Barack on the desk in the Oval Office. I feel like most of the world would be very interested to know what the letter contains, however, this is obviously only Mr. Obama’s Eyes Only.

Lastly, it was so fantastic to see the country come together and support the new President, yesterday. It was such a historic day, and even those people in states that do not agree with his political views, still wish the best for him — which is great to see.

After 8 years of doom and gloom, it’s so refreshing to know that someone with such an open mind is leading the country. It’s been too long. Thank you, Mr. Obama. Thank you.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve enjoyed cooking more and more. I can recall a time when I used to believe that if it took longer to cook/prepare a meal than it did to eat it — it wasn’t worth the time. I’m embarrassed that I had such a philosophy, but then again I was in college and I had to focus my brain cells on more important matters like calculus and the time value of money.

I think it’s become official, though, that Thanksgiving is now one of my favorite holidays. All of the cooking, eating, wine, desserts, people, etc. It’s just so much fun! For clarification, when I’m saying one of my favorites, I’m talking top 3. While Christmas, specifically, is not in the top 3 — the general month of December is. The holiday spirit is fun, even if I don’t officially celebrate Christmas as a formal holiday.

In any event, one thing that I really like about Thanksgiving is the national celebration that occurs. Everywhere in the country, at some time between 2-5pm local time, families are sitting down to eat turkey, stuffing and other Thanksgiving treats. Because there is no religious affiliation with Thanksgiving, it really is unlike any other holiday in that you know where everyone is going to be at a certain time. Even if Christmas was non-religious, families still celebrate at different times throughout the day. Some have Christmas morning, others go to someone’s house for an early afternoon celebration, while still others have Christmas dinner and celebrate in the evening.

Thanksgiving is the only holiday where you know what people are doing all day: Football, cooking, and eating. Yum. This year has come and gone, but this just kicks off the holiday season. Woot!

I apologize.

That being said, it’s time to start gettin’ thankful. The best way, as I’ve found, is to over-indulge yourself with Turkey, Stuffing, Potatoes, Pie and other delicious goodies.

So get to it. Oh yeah.. and don’t forget the wine!

Yeah, I know.. I know..the election is over. But I couldn’t help but sharing some neat links that I’ve found relating to humorous or interesting election-related content. I’m saving the best for last, which is definitely worth a watch. So enjoy these links and please share others if you have something similar!

Demographic Breakdown
A demographic breakdown of how the US population voted. As I tweeted earlier this week, I’m glad to see my Jewish Brethren come out in force and Barack the vote.

Timelapse View of the NY Times Homepage
A pretty cool 30 second video of the NY Times homepage throughout election day culminating in an “Obama Wins” headline.

President I’d Like To..
While I don’t know if I’d neceesarily agree with this statement, I’m sure there are plenty of folks out there that might. At least much more so than George W or some of his predecessors (Monica Lewinsky aside).

Palin speaks to Sarkozy
A radio duo from Montreal called Sarah Palin in the last few days before the election and pretended to be President Sarkozy of France. The conversation that followed was hilarious! My favorite quote is around 4:30:

Sarkozy: You know, I loved the documentary that they made of your life, you know, Huster’s “Nailin’ Palin”

Palin: Oh.. Good! Thank You, Yes!

Sarkozy: That was really edgy.

Palin: Oh.. good!
