Cant Select PDF File Text - QUICK FIX

If you ever open a PDF file and you cant select the text, there is an easy fix.

First, you must have the PRO version of Adobe Acrobat DC because you have to be able to EDIT PDF.

When you open a PDF, your mouse cursor will look like a black arrow with a dot lined box in the lower right corner of it. This will be seen when NOT hovering over anything, so on a blank part f the document. When you hover over anything in the document, the mouse changes to an I-Beam pointer, or also called an I-Cursor. That icon represents when you can click on something creating text or to copy text. Mine was not changing to that.

I did not want to type all the text I was trying to copy. I clicked EDIT PDF. It then goes through the process (very quickly) of converting everything to recognizable text. Once it finished, I closed out of the EDIT area back to where I was originally, ad my cursor changed and I was finally able to copy the text I needed.

I cant guarantee this will work for you also and I have no idea why it is doing this to begin with, but at least there's a possibility for a fix for you as well. Try it and see, you have nothing to lose other than a min or two of your time :)

QUICK TIP for Wrong Screen Selections

I’m sure every person that owns a smart phone or any type of touch screen device has experienced touching something on your screen by accident and immediately realizing it was the incorrect selection.

“Most” every single time, as long as you DON’T lift your finger from the screen, all you have to do is slide it to a portion of the screen where there’s nothing to click, and then lift your finger from the screen.

This will make the original incorrect selection not happen. This is because, as I stated above, “most” clickable links work on the lift up of the finger versus the initial touch. I say most because I have run across very few that work on initial touch. That is so much more rare that this quick tip will help you 99% of the time.

Acrobat Reader Error Message When Trying To Re-Save Over A File

This is a quick one.

Ever opened a file, edited it, went to save over the same file to the updated one only to be told the following:

The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open. Please save the document
with a different name or in a different folder.

Well this is because you still have it selected/highlighted from when you originally opened it.

Simply click off that file and re-save again.

VIOLA!!

Only bad part is it saves it with the new date and time so you cant see when you originally created it anymore. UNLESS you are using restore points then you might see some in the properties area: right click file --> PROPERTIES --> PREVIOUS VERSIONS.

How to save/remove a page(s) out of a PDF file FREE

If you get PDF files on the regular, there may be times you need to pull out one or more of the pages as maybe you don't need all the rest.

You could take the long route and print all the pages, pull out the ones you need, trashing the others and wasting paper. Then scan the ones you need to create a new file.

You could get the PAID version of Adobe Acrobat Reader. This may be the option to take if you need to do more manipulative tasks to your file such as adding in pictures or rearranging the pages or tracking signatures. There is a lot you can do with the paid version.

Who wants to pay though if all you need to do is take out a page or so from a PDF document? I can show you how to do it for FREE.

Quickly search without typing or leaving your current screen - Microsoft Edge & Bing Quick Search

The new Microsoft Edge has quickly become my favorite browser. It has some great features and one of the extensions offered is called Bing Quick Search.

This allows you to highlight a word or phrase and search it without leaving the page you're on or even having to type anything. You can even search images.

Close all open tabs in iPhone Safari

Sometimes we need different browsers to do different things and/or for certain features they offer. I have Safari, Chrome and Edge all installed on my iPhone. Each one has its pros and cons of course, just like anything. I noticed though, while in Safari, I didn't see a "close all" feature like I find in Chrome and Edge.

Click EDIT in the lower left corner and select close all tabs.

CLOSE ALL is already right there in the lower left corner.

There are many times we need a copy of what we are seeing on our screen.

If you use a desktop PC, there are a few ways you can do so.

All PCs have a button on the keyboard called Print Screen. It will always be located in the upper right hand corner of your keyboard.

If you press it, it will take a screenshot of the entire screen. Nothing will happen at this point though. You will have to open a program and paste it, whether that be Paint or Microsoft Word or something else. Skip to #4 to see how to make this button work when pressed.

HideoutTV is an amazing site. This site is purely just watching videos, nothing else.

You can have the videos playing on your monitor or phone all day and earn lots of points.

They're point system is: $1 equals 1150 points.

They have a few gift cards to choose from; my favorites are Amazon and Visa.

Since they are lacking cash out options, the amazing feature of this site is that you can connect your favorite money making sites (like InstaGC and Swagbucks for example) to transfer the HideoutTV points to their prospective point system. For example: 1737 HideoutTV points redeems for 135.10 IGC points. And 100 IGC points equals $1 USD. So yes, you lose some value but my suggestion is if you plan to cash out for one of the gift cards HideoutTV offers, then do it form their site. If you would prefer to cash out using PayPal or Direct Deposit for example, then transferring and losing a little value becomes more worth it. Outlook Error - "Due to the size of this email, we've turned off Editor temporarily."

I recently updated my signature block and came across and issue I want to share.

I use Microsoft Outlook for my job and transitioned to using the online version instead of the actual program. When I updated my signature block with new icons, all seemed to be ok when I sent a test email right after.

Later, when I went to create a new email, I noticed all my icons were missing and shown instead as follows

as well as an error message at the top of the screen stating: "Due to the size of this email, we've turned off Editor temporarily."

At first I thought, maybe I need to go into the actual program and update it that way. Once opened, I noticed the old signature block was still there. I updated it there too, closed out and reopened the web version also in hopes everything would sync up. Went to create a new email, and once again, it was still messed up.

The more odd thing is when I created a new email using the actual program, I did NOT get this error message and all icons were showing fine. I refuse to go back to that version, I just don't like it as much; my personal opinion.

Come to find out, the message is appearing because the icons were too large for the signature block. A co-worker had originally sent me the new signature block update and I just copied and pasted into my signature. Apparently what was sent to me, the icons were too large in resolution.

So at first I tried changing the resolution of one of the icons and that seemed to work but consisted of extra steps I did not want to have to do for each one.

What did I do to fix it?

So instead, I clicked on the icon from within my coworkers email, right clicked on the icon from within the window that opened and selected 'copy image' then went and pasted it individually into the signature, rather than all together as I originally had done.

I did this for each one and low and behold, it is working now. I have tried creating a new email now multiple times and each time it is fine and working as it should.

I wish I was smarter to know exactly how this worked to be able to explain it better. Unfortunately I am a bit confused since I ended up not having to do any resizing for it to work.

If anyone can explain how this worked, that would be so helpful.

MS OneNote - Easily see when you created anything

Using One Note is an amazing tool for keeping all kinds of notes, links, sources, voice clips and so much more.

There are times when we might need to know exactly when we created/inserted/typed something.

For items that you need to know when you created it, all you have to do is single right click on whatever it is that you want to know when you did it at, then right click and at the bottom of the menu window that appears will be your name (or maybe someone elses if youre sharing it) as well as the date and time it was created.

I noticed that this will not work if you are using the web version. I am seeing it work in both OneNote for Windows 10 and OneNote 2016.

How To: Retrieve An Off-Screen Program To Your Main Monitor (PC)

When you're working with multiple monitors, there may be times that one of the monitors may stop displaying. Problem with this is that any programs you had open on that monitor last will once again re open on that monitor when you try opening the program again.

Now this is a huge problem if your monitor is not working as you can now no longer see some of your programs.

Fret not, my dear! There is a QUICK FIX!!

First, make sure you have the window selected of the program you want to retrieve. If you cannot select it for some reason, hold down ALT and press TAB. You will see a list of all your open windows.

Arrow over to the program you want to make sure it is highlighted with a box around it. Then let go of those key combos and select the 'windows' key

and a left or right arrow until it appears in your screen. VOILA!! If it does not work, try again as I had to try a few times to get it to appear but it WILL work!!

Single Click Pasting vs Double Click Pasting - What's the Difference in Excel?

Have you ever copied something into Excel only to realize after you paste it (ctrl + V) that the format is different than your pages current format?

Well, that may be because you single click pasted instead of double click pasted.

Single click pasting will use the format of where ever you took the paste from.

Double click pasting will use the current documents formatting.

Outlook - How to change the reading view zoom level

Outlook defaults your reading view zoom level to 100%.
Some of us, like me, need it to be a bit bigger to read it comfortably.

Down in the lower right hand corner is the below.

When you click on the slider to change it and then click on another email, guess what, it pops right back to 100% automatically. Very frustrating.
If you click on the number 100% right next to it, the below shown window will pop up:

If you make sure to check tick mark the 'Remember my preference' line, then it will always stay at what you select, even when you use the slider.

Now we can all read our Outlook email just a little more comfortably.

How to Unsubscribe from Unwanted E-Mails

Have you been getting a bunch of unwanted emails that do not direct into spam? For example, maybe you signed up a long time ago for a newsletter from Office Depot and you are just tired of receiving it cause you never even look at it, it's just making you take that much longer to get to the ones you DO want.

Well, if you scroll to the very bottom of the email, ALL emails will have this unless it is a "true" spam email, there is small writing always incorporating how to UNSUBSCRIBE from their mailings.

Office 2013

Office 2013 uses the File tab and the Microsoft Office Backstage view, what you see after you click File. Here's what you see in Word 2013.

Easily Convert Files from G-Mail Attachments Using Google Sheets

Depending on the version of Microsoft Office you have installed on your computer, you may have experienced problems opening certain Office files. Office 2007 and newer has some different files format extensions than what the older versions provide.

Take an Excel spreadsheet, for example. The old Excel format is .xls, but with the newer versions it is .xlsx which makes it where you cannot open the file (a trial offer may pop up asking you to try or buy) using an older Windows version.

This is a problem I experience at work a lot due to receiving email attachments from people who use newer versions. So I happened to stumble upon an easy way to convert those files to be a format I can actually open.

Using this method, you can easily convert those XLSX files, for example, to PDF, ODS (OpenDocument format), CSV (comma-separated values), TSV (Tab-separated values) and ZIP files. I found the one that works best for me is to convert to a PDF (which is opened via Adobe Acrobat Reader) as most everyone has this program already installed on their computers.

Follow these steps:

First off, while in GMail, if you have an attachment, it will be shown at the bottom of the email and you can easily see the file extension right there to help you determine if it needs converting or not (see screenshot A)

To get to Google Sheets, you can either click on the little pencil icon on the attachment (see Screenshot B) OR if you have already clicked on the attachment and are in preview mode, you can click on Open With and select Google Sheets (see Screenshot C).

Once you get to Google Sheets and it completely loads, you can do whatever editing you may want to do right from there. Then when you are ready to convert and save, click on File in the top left corner. Click on Download As and then select the file format you'd like to convert to (see Screenshot D). Unfortunately there is a limited number of formats to convert to but as I mentioned, PDFs seem to work beautifully for me.

All of the formats will open a Save As box (PDF choice will first pop up an options box where you'll click EXPORT at the bottom of the window). Choose where you'd like to save the file and VIOLA! Your file is now converted. So much easier than having to find, research and download a new converting software program.

View Full Websites on iOS & Android

Many of you, like me, get frustrated when you visit a website on your iOS or Android mobile device and it forces you to the "mobile" version of their website. Most of those mobile sites are scaled down in terms of features and things you can actually do.

These sites put an "m" or the word "mobile" in the front of the mobile web address and in some instances you can take that out and it forces the full site to open. Take twitter.com for example. This is not one of those sites unfortunately. So what do you do? Wait until you get to a desktop? Sounds like a hassle to me. What's the point in having a mobile device if you can't accomplish what you need to do?

Follow these steps on how to work your way around this "force" field.

1. Install Google Chrome for your device.
Google Chrome for iOS from the App Store.
Chrome Browser for Android from Google Play.

2. Open Chrome and type in the address you are having problems with.

3. Click on the settings menu (i.e. the three horizontal lines) and select Request Desktop Site.

BAM! A fully functional site now available at your fingertips while on-the-go. Wasn't that easy? And even if you don't care for Chrome, at least you have it for those stubborn mobile sites.

Where is the Compatibility View Button in IE 11?

In earlier versions of IE (Internet Explorer), if you came across a web page that was misbehaving or had missing/misplaced buttons, links, pictures etc, you could easily hit the Compatibility View button at the top of the screen in the address bar.

This button was made to correct issues that website developers were not able to anticipate for when new versions of the browser were created.

Now in IE 11, they took this button away. So, how can you still use this buttons feature to correct the incompatibility issues?

First COPY the WEB ADDRESS of the page you are experiencing the problems on.

Then, click on TOOLS at the top of your screen and select COMPATIBILITY VIEW SETTINGS.

PASTE the address into the field "Add this website" at the top of the window that opened and click ADD.

Close out of IE completely to ensure the change took place. Open IE again and go back to the same page you were having the problems with. Problems should now be resolved.

Not sure why IE took that convenient button out from the top of the page but at least there is still a way to accomplish the same thing, with unfortunately a few extra steps added though.

How to Set Autofill on iOS

Are you tired of filling in all the same information on website forms? There is an easy fix with Autofill.

When you are typing, you may have noticed the buttons in the top left of your keyboard PREVIOUS, NEXT and AUTOFILL. To get the Austofill option working, follow these steps:

First we need to create a contact of all your own personal info, if you have not done so already (which most people do not keep a contact of themselves - but it is actually a great idea for emergencies, labeled ME)

Go to CONTACTS

CREATE NEW of all your info (address, phone numbers, birthday, etc)
SAVE

Next....

Go to SETTINGS
Click on SAFARI
Click on AUTOFILL
Toggle "Use Contact Info" to ON
Tap on My Info and select the contact you just created or the one you already had.

Next time you are ready to fill in a form online, select a field to start typing in and when the keyboard pops up, select AUTOFILL and all the information will be filled in for you automatically.

Now get that AUTOFILL working for you and give those fingers a rest from the needless repetition.

How to Print Using the New Google Maps

The new Google Maps is coming soon and for some, the change is being switched over automatically without asking you. To switch back to the old map version (to use as long as you can) click on either the gear or the Help and Feedback (in blue) in the top right corner. See screenshot below.

The problem I came across was that I could not find a print button while viewing the large map. When I looked in the Help, the below is what I was shown:

You can print directions that appear in Google Maps:

Get directions, and click Step-by-step.
Adjust your map to fit the content you’d like to print.
Click the print button in the top-right of the screen. You can also hit CTRL+P (for PC) or ⌘+P (for Mac) to print.
Follow the browser print prompts.

At this time, printing for the full map view is not available. <<<<<-----------seriously b="">

Well fear not my dears, YOU CAN PRINT! Yes, Google says you can't but I can tell you exactly how you can, press

Control + P.

Simple as that!

Hope this helps some of you having printing problems in the "New" Google Maps.
