We covered the SPCA of Wake County in our Part 1 Spotlight and now our second and final post will cover two major organizations here in Raleigh—Toys For Tots & Coats for Kids!

We all know how much family means to us, and at the center of that are our kids! We’d do whatever it takes to make them happy as well as have what they need. Unfortunately, there are kids in our community that don’t get the same fulfillment, as others.

Toys For Tots–The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during the winter months each year, and distribute them as Holiday gifts to needy children in the community.

–Local toy stores and chains, partner with the organization to provide a regular place for local residents to purchase toys; sometimes with special discount

Coats for Kids–The main purposed of Coats for Kids is to provide clothing, specifically winter coats, to children in need. They strive hard each year to get only new coats (which impact self-worth/self-esteem positively) to be distributed locally!

Both organizations are tax write-off qualified for residents who itemize taxes during that time. As a reminder, we will be collecting conveniently in the office, so you won’t have to make a far trip to help local kids in need!

Our elves will be walking around on December 20th, 2011 at 5PM to judge our residents’ creations! We’ll be looking for: creativity, uniqueness, execution, and consistent themes; so keep that in mind if you haven’t started already!

Our first installment highlights the SPCA of Wake County! Being a pet-friendly community here in Raleigh, we think of pets more as family than they are animals!

The local SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), was founded here in Raleigh in 1967, and has been striving to provide a humane community for misplaced, abandoned and mistreated pets locally!  Different facilities here in Wake County are known for their: spay/neuter programs, puppy adoption and public education about animal shelters.

The first facility is the SPCA Curtis Dail Pet Adoption Center, located at 200 Petfinder Lane in Raleigh…

The second facility operated by the SPCA is the SPCA Holding Center at 327 Highway 70 East in Garner. At this location, the SPCA accepts incoming animals from the public…

There are different ways that we can help the local organization. First of course is donation! Residents seeking to possibly add a furry family member to their household, should also consider adopting through the shelter as opposed to buying from a breeder. There are tons of lovable animals that need a home!

Currently, residents are asked to donate goods through our Giving Train for the SPCA wish list, which asks for items like: kitten/cat food, puppy dry food, cat litter, hand sanitizer, etc.
