I really appreciate this post by John Gruber.
He posted it yesterday in comment to AP, who were already then preparing for a ‘modest’ announcement. I only came across it now.

I’ve already heard negative reactions myself after the event today, and all I can ask is “Really, What the hell were you expecting?”

A new Dual Core CPU, Quad Core GPU, Doubled Resolution, A Better Camera, 1080p video recording, and even 4G LTE made it in there. I really was not expecting 4G.

During today’s keynote, Engadget noted that Apple claims the new A5X is twice as fast as the Tegra 3 with four times the performance. That should be pretty quick. I’m excited to see what the a devs can pull out of that power.

Gruber says it best though, “what would it take for the iPad 3 to be deemed an immodest update? A fusion energy source? Teleportation? A camera that sees into the future?”

With the Apple iPad HD (iPad 3) event about to go down any minute now, the biggest expectation is that it will have a Retina Display with a doubled resolution. (2048×1536)

Most people are very excited about this, as am I. However, my job as a web designer will likely get much more complicated.

Currently designing a website is pretty standard. Usually designers stick to a maximum page size that will fit a 1024px screen width. Perfect for the iPad 1 and 2. For the iPhone 3Gs, 4, and 4s, it works well, because the iPhone scales the site down to fit the pixel resolution.

With a high resolution iPad, a standard 1024px website design will appear to be really small on the iPad HD. It won’t fill the full display. Apple may provide an option to scale the graphics up, to fill the pixels on the new display, but we all know what happens when you scale graphics up. They look fuzzy.

I’m thinking a more obvious solution, is that Apple will provide a method of retrieving 2 sets of graphics for each display, similar to the way they handle app development now. Currently when building an iPhone app, you supply 2 sets of graphics. The standard size image. And a second x2 image. The phone automatically pulls the double sized image for the Retina iPhone.

This would be great for CSS. If Apple embeds a special CSS rendering option for its iPad Safari browser, then web developers can provide 2 sets of graphics, and we will have gorgeous HD websites on the iPad 2.

It just means more work for designers. 2 sets of graphics for every site. Still not as complicated as creating a multitude of graphics for the many many android screen sizes though.

It is so difficult to learn to say no, yet so important. You really need to know who you are, and what you are not, and be completely comfortable with that.

Most people exert too much energy trying to be what they are not, when if they would simply focus on their strengths they could be so much more successful.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's vice president of iPod, iPhone, and iOS product marketing, shared four keys to Apple's success at a recent event titled "Silicon Valley Comes to Cambridge." You can hit the original story at The Wall Street Journal for the full text of each point, but we've pared them down to the basics below.

Focus: It means saying no, not saying yes.

Simplicity: Make complex things simple.

Courage: Don't hang on to ideas from the past even if they have been successful for you.

I’ve personally participated the last three years in a row and have been part of the Media Platforms Movember Team the last two. Growing a Mo is fun on it’s own, but now I have a great reason to do so.

For those that don’t know how it works, Read On.

It’s pretty Simple. Each MoBro will pledge to cultivate a face grown moustache for 30 days to raise awareness and funds for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer.

These are the rules:

Each Mo Bro Must Begin The 1St Of Movember With A Clean Shaven Face.

For The Entire Month Of Movember Each Mo Bro Must Grow And Groom A Moustache.

There Is To Be No Joining Of The Mo To Your Side Burns. (That’s Considered A Beard)

There Is To Be No Joining Of The Handlebars To Your Chin. (That’s Considered A Goatee)

Each Mo Bro Must Conduct Himself Like A True Country Gentleman.

Check out the website to learn more about Movember. Also, don’t forget to Rate My Mo, and donate for myself, or somebody else you know is participating.

Since I need to get some posts in here, I thought I’d look for a plugin to pull in my Google Shared Items and use my own Notes as the Commentary.

I found one called FeedWordPress. The problem, is the post is created using the actual content of the original source. I don’t want any of the original source page to show up on my page. Only my own commentary. Although it does show my notes at the top, it doesn’t format well.

It is likely an issue with the way Google Reader exports the feed. Since I’m not a developer, I can’t figure out how to edit the plugin to parse the feed better.

Oh well. Im hungry. I should call it a night.

UPDATE: With the New Google Reader that just launched on Nov.1, this is all useless anyway. They Nixed the whole sharing functionality in favour of Google+. A lot of blogs that we already using this, will be screwed. Glad I didn’t spend anymore time on it.

Well, here it is. As the title says, its long overdue.

I started this website/blog about 6 months ago, thinking I would ‘go-live’ for my 30th Birthday in May. It sounded like a good launch date at the time. I had most of the design done, and then I got stuck trying to figure out what to do for the About Page. Time passed, and I eventually just put it down entirely.

So now, I am writing this instead, hoping that if I launch this into the public, the pressure will keep me writing, and the official about page will be completed.

So what’s it about? Awesome Stuff.
