Fluency Fix, by Nejo Studios, has launched its own streaming TV channel on Roku; making it the first interactive language practice platform to do so. The channel which launched on April 25^th, 2023, provides students with interactive English conversations amongst a sea of movies and TV shows.

Through its innovative video format, Fluency Fix will allow language learners to practice English conversations in the same way that they’d watch their favourite TV show.  The channel will offer Beginner, Intermediate and Business English conversations to help students to practice their English.

“We are excited to launch our first TV channel since Smart TVs have always been a part of the Fluency Fix vision,” said Nejo Studios Founder Carol Barrett.

“Students want more than “point and click” learning. This helps students who are already so used to the video format to engage in foreign language conversations in a way that feels natural.”

In addition to interactive video conversations, Fluency Fix also offers specialty shows like My Fluency Journey and other fluency-themed programs which will be rolled out in the near future. These features are all built around the goal of making fluency accessible to everyone.

Almost 3 Years ago, in February of 2020, Fluency Fix excitedly launched a new batch of Fluency-Building products in 5 languages.

2020 has been a super tough year for Fluency Fix, and everyone on earth. Right after we launched a product designed to meet all the needs of language learners, Covid showed up. Then one setback after another followed which has caused Fluency Fix to be down since March.  However, Covid didn’t affect our ability to innovate and Fluency Fix was nominated in the innovation category for this year’s Business Excellence Awards on October 20th. Thank you Brampton Board of Trade.

On March 16th, 2020, Virtual Language Practice made the very difficult decision to temporarily close the Fluency Fix Store to new customers.

This was a very difficult thing to do since our big relaunch with new interactive content only happened on February 3rd,2020.

This decision was influenced by our inability , due to ongoing circumstances, to create new content and fulfill our promise of new content every week.

Full disclosure. This decision was made prior to the changes we have all faced due to Covid 19. This decision was precipitated by difficulties we have been facing as an organization.  However, these difficulties were further compounded by the Corona virus fallout and made it impossible to continue with business as usual.

This is a very difficult time for all of us and my encouragement to our audience and language learning customers out there is to make the most of this time.  Use this time to get better.  Use this time to read, to get organized, to plan, to clean, to form new healthier habits and to regroup. Use this time to become a kinder person since so much kindness is needed right now.

Even with limited resources it is possible to come out of this very difficult situation in some way better than before it started.  Pledge to yourself to use the resources that you do have (time and a mind) to come out of this better in some way than before the virus hit.

That is what I will be doing.

During this down time we will be working at creating an even better product than we had before and bringing you even more value to empower you on your fluency journey.

Almost one year to the day when Fluency Fix first introduced human conversation practice partners, the company has retooled 5 of its language practice sessions and added 3 new shows. For language learners looking to brush up on their listening skills or test their translation mettle, the lineup includes Simultaneous Translation- French, Simultaneous Translation-Spanish and a new program called, “I want English Ears.”

The new interactive TV style format will appeal to language learners who want their language learning to be just as engaging and fun as watching their favorite TV show. Some format changes that have been added to the lineup include a movie skit for each conversation, a lesson and a quiz at the end to make sure that they really understood everything in the conversation.

After some beta testing last year which included creating a very successful series of podcasts, Fluency Fix’s parent company Virtual Language Practice wanted to offer language learners even more. Says Founder Carol Barrett, “It made sense to put everything language learners were looking for including lessons, conversation practice and quizzes all in one package instead of in several different places on the internet.”

Virtual Language Practice launches 2 new podcasts

Foreign language students now have the complete package with free language lessons followed immediately by a conversation practice session with a native speaker.

February 20th – Brampton, Ontario Canada – This week, Virtual Language Practice will launch 2 new podcasts to complement the virtual conversation practice sessions already available at its website fluencyfix.com. These mini podcast prep-lessons are for absolute beginners who need a little instructional help before they can practice the interactive conversations on the site with a native speaker.

“I realized that every language learning app that I’ve ever quit, I quit because studying the language and practicing the language with a native speaker were separated,” said Virtual Language Practice founder Carol Barrett. I wanted to give language learners the complete package, a way to study, and then immediately put it all into practice in a conversation with a native speaker right away. These new mini podcast lessons will allow language learners to do just that.

The new podcasts will be available on iTunes, Spotify and other podcasting platforms but will also be available in a player directly below each video conversation practice session. So, a learner will be able to go straight from their mini lesson to their conversation practice session all on the same page. Initially, Beginner Spanish and Beginner English will be rolled out but Japanese, Mandarin Chinese and French will follow soon after. Since the EU Barometer has listed English, Spanish, Chinese and French among the most useful languages to learn, these languages were a natural choice.

The Virtual conversation practice sessions have already had the effect of making foreign language fluency seem possible for people who have been quietly thinking about it for years.

One learner from Costa Rica said, “I did what I never thought that I would be able to do.” However, for a large segment of the population, foreign language lessons are out of reach financially. These 65 free beginner mini-lessons and practice sessions will make language learning and fluency more accessible to more people who want to speak a second language.
