<br />
I've been busy. So busy. Insanely busy. Too busy!<br />
<br />
Sound familiar?<br />
<br />
The month of December found me spending 16 hours a day in front of my computer.<br />
<br />
No time for decorating or baking cookies. No time for taking a drive in the snow. No time for pictures or holiday movies.<br />
<br />
No time for cooking. No time for laundry. No time for basic hygiene. ew.<br />
<br />
Looking back, what holiday memories did I create so far this year? Just one. One of a grubby mom slaving in front of her computer and ignoring the family.<br />
<br />
So what can I do differently?<br />
<div>
<br />
<b>Get More Done In Less Time</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
You can't get more time in the day. Time is finite and can't be replaced. When it's gone, it's gone. But there are things you can do to train yourself to effectively use the time you have.<br />
<br />
<b>Focus</b> - One thing at a time. That's it. Give that one idea or project your very best! Don't skimp on your work. You, your clients, your family, and your business deserve better.<br />
<br />
<b>Avoid Distractions</b> - Believe it or not, you do not need to check facebook, your email, or twitter every 5 minutes. Set a time every day to check social media, take and return phone calls, and respond to emails.<br />
<br />
<b>Stick to a Schedule</b> - Make a schedule, plaster it on the wall above your work space, and stick to it! Yes, I know it's hard. Yes, you'll forget and stray from your schedule. But keep trying. It's YOUR schedule. Alter it. Make it fit your life, then make it a habit. Create your schedule each night and review it in the morning. Set a timer if you have to! I have one set on my computer that reminds me every hour to get up and drink some water. Sometimes I ignore it, but I'm trying.<br />
<br />
Take a little time to plan your day and you'll end up getting more done in less time. That means more time for your family. More time for yourself! More time to create some memories.<br />
<br />
Now... I'm going to go bake some cookies! If you have any questions, leave a comment.<br />

The past 7 days have been packed with inspiration for my business. You know what that means, right? Tons Of Ideas! Frankly, too many ideas for my little designer brain to handle at the moment.<br />
<br />
One of the things I know that I need to do for my business is to make a video, and that terrifies me. Me, my face, my voice, on a video? Cha, right! I will come up with a million excuses why I can't.<br />
<br />
Sound familiar? Do you make excuses for things that you KNOW would help your business grow?<br />
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
Breakdown the Feeble List of Excuses</h3>
<br />
Here's my list:<br />
1. I don't like my hair.<br />
2. I don't know how to make a video.<br />
3. I can't pick a topic.<br />
4. I don't have a nice background.<br />
5. I don't have time.<br />
6. My Minnesotan accent... blah!<br />
<br />
I have more ridiculous excuses but I think you get the idea. Of course, you know just as well as I do that those excuses are all a huge load of crap.<br />
<br />
I'm self-sabotaging. Do you do this too?<br />
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
Rip Off The Band-aid</h3>
<br />
The other day I was in a FB group and mentioned that I'm a huge chicken when it comes to making a vlog post or video for my business. Sensing my wish-washy-ness, I was challenged by <a href="https://www.facebook.com/BrandeeSweesyFP" target="_blank">Brandee Sweesy</a> to make a video. Immediately.<br />
<br />
::GROAN::<br />
<br />
Fortunately, I can't turn down a challenge. That's part of my personality. Reverse psychology also works very well on me. My family abuses that one quite a bit.<br />
<br />
Still... it's tempting to blow it off. In my head, I'm already arguing with myself. "You don't need to do this." "Wait until next weekend and get your hair done." "You can't do this outside, you look like Where's Waldo in your hat." And the one that attacks me the most is "You have nothing to offer that isn't already out there."<br />
<br />
BUT, everywhere I look I'm suddenly seeing motivation and inspiration. It's all over the place and I don't just mean those motivational quotes people throw out on facebook. I mean yesterday I saw a clip of my favorite author of all time, Neil Gaiman, give the best advice ever!<br />
<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen" frameborder="0" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/_6Vpl8JoIiY" width="420"></iframe>
<br />
<br />
Even after that, the little voice in my head is trying to shut me down. Until last night.<br />
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
The Butt-Kicker</h3>
<br />
Get ready for me to talk about my kid.<br />
<br />
My daughter started going to a small private school 5 years ago. She was in the 4th grade. When the Christmas Concert rolled around, she was terrified. I watched my baby shuffle up on stage with her class, trying to make herself as small as possible. Her eyes were huge in her little paper white face and her lips barely moved. We thought she was going to faint! Being in front of a crowd is something she has always struggled with.<br />
<br />
Fast forward 5 years. Last night was the Christmas Concert. My girl is in 9th grade now and sings with the Sr. High class. As I was reading the song list, I saw that there would be a song sung by a small group of the Sr. High girls, and about fell off my chair when I saw my daughter walk up and sing with just a few other people. We. Were. Amazed.<br />
<br />
To me, that was more inspiring than any random quotes or even my man Neil on a video clip. If my daughter can face her fear and sing in front of a crowd of people, I should be able to sit for a few minutes in front of a video camera.<br />
<br />
So look for it next week. Me and my hat, in the snow, stuttering. It's gonna be good!<br />
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
My Challenge to You</h3>
<br />
What is it that you KNOW you should be doing to further your business? I want to know. Tell me in the comments what it is that you are making lame excuses for and list the excuses.<br />
<br />
Let's see if we can obliterate those bullsh*t reasons together!<br />
{Please excuse my swearing but that's exactly what they are.}<br />

I'm going to tell you a secret.<br />
My secret cookie recipe.<br />
<br />
Probably not what you were expecting to read about on a business blog but give me a chance to explain. You see, 'round these parts, I'm known for my Double Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookies. I'm asked to make them for bake sales, events, and birthdays. Everyone LOVES my cookies. Last spring, one dozen of my cookies went for $50 at a silent auction. <br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgx4kZVQO4etO8V5Ikyyzcxpd3rMK4LiNBm2-IvIB9v7_LHsVgSMzRyhyuVmgA8R_L494U73hFR8StScgHQMo7jqmkttWCq4Gz0UriEGYZN-IqmpE6kGoTVcxrlhyxoWJdOyKZPz5xdtL1f/s1600/give+the+best.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgx4kZVQO4etO8V5Ikyyzcxpd3rMK4LiNBm2-IvIB9v7_LHsVgSMzRyhyuVmgA8R_L494U73hFR8StScgHQMo7jqmkttWCq4Gz0UriEGYZN-IqmpE6kGoTVcxrlhyxoWJdOyKZPz5xdtL1f/s320/give+the+best.jpg" width="320" /></a><br />
And now I'm going to share with you my super secret recipe.<br />
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
The Secret Recipe</h3>
Are you ready?<br />
Do you have a pen?<br />
Okay, you need to go to the store and buy a bag of Hershey's Milk Chocolate Chips, the recipe is on the back. Oh and grab a bag of semi-sweet chips too. I use those instead of the peanut butter chips in the recipe. That's the only change I make. {the <i>real</i> secret revealed later in this post}<br />
<br />
So how did I get "famous" for my Double Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookies when anyone can make them? And why are we talking about cookies and not business? I'll answer both those questions and hopefully you'll see the why.<br />
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
How I Got Famous</h3>
I got famous for my cookies because I TOLD people that I make the <u><b><i>best</i></b></u> Double Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookies and my family backed me up. They believed us. And when they tried my cookies, they told their friends how wonderful they are. Word spread. It's that simple.<br />
<br />
I don't make any other cookies for people. Just the one kind. Of course around the house, I make other cookies but for events and such, nope. One kind, the kind I'm known for. If I were in the cookie business, I could expand. People would assume that all my cookies would be just as delicious as the first one they tried. They would be right, of course.<br />
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
Cookies and Business, Really?</h3>
As entrepreneurs, we always have great ideas. There are so many things we want to do that we can't focus. Everything becomes a struggle. Should I make this? Should I change that? Where should I start? Then we just shut down. Too many choices and we can't make a decision.<br />
<br />
Here's what to do:<br />
1. Start with one thing. Focus on the one thing you are really good at. Just do that.<br />
2. Tell everyone you are the best.<br />
3. Now back it up with the BEST.<br />
4. Continue to tell everyone you are the best, and back it up with testimonials.<br />
5. Rock on!<br />
<br />
That is obviously a bit simplified but the point is, focus on one thing first. Focus!<br />
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
But What About The Competition?</h3>
Don't worry about people who make something similar. They aren't you. Yours is different. YOU are different. You do something to your product that sets it apart and that's what makes it the best. It's your "secret recipe"... everyone might have access to the recipe, but it's what <i>you</i> do to it that makes it special.<br />
<br />
In the beginning, focus on just that one thing, and when you become known as the best in the biz, <i>then</i> you can add something different to the mix. Because if you're an expert at one thing, people will assume you're an expert at the next thing you make. Then it's up to you to make sure they are right.<br />
<br />
Example: I'm good friends with the folks at <a href="http://www.northlandwoolens.etsy.com/" target="_blank">Northland Woolens</a>. The make mittens from recycled sweaters. Not just any sweater mittens... the BEST sweater mittens.<br />
<br />
You all know that there are sweater mitten patterns out there. Sure, you probably even know someone who makes them. But <a href="http://www.facebook.com/northlandwoolens" target="_blank">Maria at Northland Woolens</a> makes special mittens. She hand dyes buttons to match the mittens. She dyes wool to make special cuffs for the mittens. She uses the best quality materials, all from right here in the USA. She inspects each mitten before it's shipped out. They have mittens all over the world! I have 5 pair, they're like candy. They really are the best sweater mittens I've ever seen.<br />
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
The Real Secret</h3>
It's <u>you</u> that makes your product the best. It's what YOU add to it.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0Zix0rz9ZJCXckTga02fgjpzDycUrAySDqKp_Eo8nn-fUJyaXivIW3W9-oCqgTfmtN4LIRBqgZkbFcCE_jb5eYbvDEslTkT8MmuJd5yV9U-2UD_DwDJnX_512avn6tHnnhtWJPJVkR_k0/s1600/astro+and+cookies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0Zix0rz9ZJCXckTga02fgjpzDycUrAySDqKp_Eo8nn-fUJyaXivIW3W9-oCqgTfmtN4LIRBqgZkbFcCE_jb5eYbvDEslTkT8MmuJd5yV9U-2UD_DwDJnX_512avn6tHnnhtWJPJVkR_k0/s320/astro+and+cookies.jpg" width="320" /></a>Would you like to know what I do that makes my cookies so good? <br />
<br />
The secret is... never over bake them. Now don't you go rolling your eyes at me! It's true. If there's a bit of brown on the cookie, it's over-done. I bake mine for 11 minutes, take them out and let them sit on the stone sheet for another 5. Then move them to a cooling rack. Perfect, every time!<br />

<h2 style="text-align: left;">
Why Wait? Take Action Now!</h2>
As I write this, the old year is coming to a close and the New Year is waiting for us to make big changes and resolutions - and achieve great success. But something you need to realize is that EVERY DAY is waiting for big changes. Every moment is the moment you can achieve great success. It can be overwhelming, yet it can also be exciting. Here are a few tips to help you get motivated for the New Year or next week or this afternoon.<br />
<br />
<h4>
1. Reflect</h4>
<div>
<br /></div>
Take a good look back at all of the things you've accomplished. Make a list of your achievements and don't hesitate to list even the smallest accomplishment. See how much you are capable of? Just think how much more you can accomplish when you set your new goals.<br />
<br />
<h4>
2. Dream</h4>
<div>
<br /></div>
Find a quiet spot and daydream. Take some time to close your eyes and visualize your future. For example, if you want to publish a book, then imagine how your life will be as a published author. Visualize as if you've already published the book. Once you have the daydream solidly formed in your imagination, write it down. Do this exercise for all of your big goals. Visualization is a powerful motivator. You could also create boards on Pinterest that reflect each goal.<br />
<br />
<h4>
3. Plan </h4>
<div>
<br /></div>
Yes, you need to plan. No groaning!<br />
<i><b>"A goal without a plan is just a wish." Antoine de Saint-Exupery<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: x-small; line-height: 17.600000381469727px;"> </span></b></i><br />
So open that calendar and start creating goals and the plans to achieve them. Establish deadlines to make the goals more realistic and part of your daily life.<br />
<br />
Start taking action on those goals right away. Don’t wait for the end of the year to begin taking action. If you have the motivation, there's no time like the present. Do it now, or you will lose that drive and this goal will just remain a dream and become forgotten.<br />
<br />
<h4>
4. Brainstorm the Possibilities</h4>
<div>
<br /></div>
<b><i>"Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!" Dr. Seuss </i></b>Mind maps are a great way to grow a plan. Beginning with your goal in the center of the page, you create spokes that link to your central idea. Each spoke can be an action that needs to be accomplished in order too reach your goal. Add more spokes to those spokes. Break each goal down into small steps that can easily be managed. Then add each step to your calendar and don't forget those deadlines!<br />
<br />
Sometimes looking at your goal can be overwhelming. By breaking the steps down into small bites, you can focus on what needs to be done one step at a time.<br />
<br />
<h4>
5. Celebrate</h4>
<div>
<br /></div>
Finally, take some time to celebrate the fact that you are <u>taking action</u>. Look at your goals, mind maps, and calendar. Put them up where you can see them every day. Enjoy all that you've already accomplished and all the amazing things that you will continue to accomplish. Sometimes remembering who you are and what you’re about is motivation enough to continue down your path.<br />

Use RSS Feeds To Stay Informed<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">

<h2 style="text-align: left;">
Say Goodbye to Information Overload</h2>
With billions of web pages available on the internet, there’s no shortage of <i>great</i> information. But with such a huge amount of content, keeping up with all the sites you love can be tough. Sure, you can bookmark your favorites and hope you remember to visit. I tried to do that and it didn't work. A much better way to keep up with changes is to use Really Simply Syndication (RSS).<br />
<br />
Don't let RSS scare you. It really is so simple! RSS is a notification service that lets you know when the sites you love are updated. With RSS, you simply need to visit your favorite sites and then add them to your feed reader or aggregator. Then just check your feed reader to see what important changes are happening. That's it. Just one site to visit. Easy Peasy!<br />
<br />
Now that you know how simple it can be to keep up with your favorite sites, you might be wondering which feeds you should subscribe to. Let’s take a look at a few.<br />
<br />
<h3>
Internet Marketing Feeds</h3>
If you're reading this, you probably have a business, you should have at least a couple of internet marketing RSS feeds. {ahem... here's the <a href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/thegeekeryblog" target="_blank">Link To My Feed</a>} The world of internet marketing is constantly changing. Constantly! You need to get relevant, up-to-date information about these changes to keep you on top of your game. Be the first to know when changes happen and take action quickly.<br />
<br />
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
Inspirational Feeds</h3>
We all have sites we love to visit for inspiration. When you have a creative business, or any business really, there comes a time when we get stuck and need a nudge. Or maybe we just need a fun diversion to get the thoughts flowing again. Add some of your favorite inspirational sites to your RSS feeds. This is a great way to take a quick break, maybe have a laugh or two, and get a fresh start on your next project.<br />
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
Industry Leader Feeds</h3>
If you’re in business to make money, and of course you are, you will want to keep up with what your industry leaders are up to. Every industry has its movers and shakers. These people are the important game changers, the ones everyone listens to when they speak. Add these industry leaders and their sites to your RSS feeds so you will always be on the front lines with what's trending in your industry.<br />
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
Trend Watching Feeds</h3>
Speaking of trends... this is another area you may want to add to your RSS feeds. There are so many websites these days that do nothing more than track the latest trends. From entertainment and lifestyle, to consumers and marketing, you can find trending information on just about any topic.<br />
<br />
These are four types of feeds you can add to your RSS reader. By keeping on top of your industry's news, upcoming trends and the most important new developments in internet marketing, you'll be well informed with very little effort.<br />
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
BONUS</h3>
<div>
Does RSS still seem like it may be a waste of your time to set up? Here is another way you can use RSS feeds for you business. When you are keeping yourself informed with what's new in your industry, you'll be able to pass along information to your customers. Share relevant posts and articles with your fans on facebook. It's an easy way to come up with facebook posts everyday. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Example: If you are a wedding photographer, add various wedding websites and blogs to your RSS feeds. Every morning, take a few moments to read through your feeds and find information that you can share with your audience. Be sure to let those sites know you are sharing their links or info. You'll be building relationships with your audience AS WELL AS other businesses in your industry. Win Win!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Make sure you <a href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/thegeekeryblog" target="_blank">add the geekery to your new RSS feed</a> and keep up with all the new content by subscribing to my weekly newsletter, loaded with the posts from the week along with tips and information from around the web.<br />

The past 2 days, we've been talking about letting your personality shine through your business. If you've missed those two posts, you can find them here:<br />
<a href="http://kellyjsorenson.blogspot.com/2012/11/being-yourself-dont-be-afraid-to-let.html" target="_blank">Being Yourself - Don't Be Afraid to Let Your Business Sparkle</a><br />
<a href="http://kellyjsorenson.blogspot.com/2012/11/find-personality-of-your-business-and.html" target="_blank">Find the Personality of your Business and Turn It UP!</a><br />
Go ahead and read them, we'll wait.<br />
<br />
All caught up? Great!<br />
<br />
So, generally, the more you let people see your personality, the better. But, it IS possible to go to far. If you cross that line, all your hard work will go down the drain. You could lose your audience's respect, draw negative press, social media criticism, and permanently burn some bridges.<br />
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
Where is the Line?</h3>
We all have opinions, so don't be afraid to be opinionated. But avoid being rude.<br />
<br />
<b><u>Watch your language.</u></b> Avoid excessive swearing. Swearing can be a great emphasizing tools IF used with the right audience and IF it's used very very sparingly. In most cases, it's a turnoff and it comes off as unprofessional. Many people will be repelled by pointless swearing.<br />
<br />
<b><u>Watch your tone.</u></b> The same goes with direct insults, or anything that could be perceived as "screaming" online. Avoid writing in caps unless you feel very strongly about a specific topic. A small emphasis used sporadically is okay, as in the paragraph above. But if you do it frequently, you'll lose your audience.<br />
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
Agree to Disagree</h3>
It's perfectly okay to publicly disagree with someone's opinions. When we put our opinions out there, it's part of the game. But it's different if things get personal, or if the boundary is crossed between disagreeing with their work to attacking them as a person and resorting to name calling. Always be mindful of other's feelings. If things get out of hand, agree to disagree with that person and move on.<br />
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
Walk the Line</h3>
All that said, don't always play it safe. If you stray too far on the safe side, you will seem dull and wishy-washy. Instead, you want to come as close as possible to walking the line, without actually crossing it. What you want is the "I can't believe she just said that" reaction from people while they're still smiling and enjoying it.<br />
<br />
Don't be afraid to say what you think, but be careful of stepping over the line. Say what you have to say, nicely. Or better yet, make it humorous if possible.<br />
<br />
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
One last note...</h3>
Personality marketing is like a magnet. When you do it right, you will naturally attract your tribe, "your kind of people" will find you and follow you. Of course, you'll also repel some people away from you. But that's okay. At the end of the day, your audience size will grow much faster and with much more momentum.<br />

<h2 style="text-align: left;">
<b>What is your marketing personality? </b></h2>
Are you more of a quirky,wild n crazy artist? A fast talking, super smooth marketer? A calm, cool, reserved coach? A sweet, nerdy helper? <i>(That's me!)</i> There are all kinds of different marketing personalities you might have. Identifying your marketing personality can make your marketing much more powerful and efficient.<br />
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
First, what's YOUR personality?</h3>
Identifying your own personality can help. Knowing your personality type makes it easier for you to write and create content for your business. You'll know what kind of voice and writing style tends to work best for you and can shape your content more easily. It's much easier to create content with a voice in mind than to blindly try to figure out what your audience wants and responds to.<br />
<br />
Example... Years ago when I had a personal blog, I had a specific style of writing. I wrote in a way that was fun, nonsensical, and people liked it. I never veered from that style. People knew what they were going to get when they came to my blog, it was me. This business blog is very different. Still me, just a different voice.<br />
<br />
If I were to use the voice I used on my personal blog for this content, it simply would <i>not</i> work. Sure, a bit of that voice leaks out every now and then. If you follow me long enough, you'll learn that I'm a huge Trekkie. You'll see on my twitter profile that I play World of Warcraft. But you aren't here to read about my horrible singing voice. You're here to read about stylish graphic design, branding, and social media tips. For this blog, I've turned down the nerd a bit and pumped up the volume on my "business geek" voice.<br />
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
Figuring Out Which Voice You Should Use</h3>
So how do you actually figure out your <i>marketing</i> personality?<br />
<br />
Start by looking over your content. Look at your written articles, your video content, your blog content and anything else. <br />
<br />
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>What kind of voice comes through? </li>
<li>What kind of personality are you representing?</li>
<li>What resonates with your audience?</li>
</ul>
<br />
Review your content and figure out your personality, even if it isn't clearly defined yet. You might get the sense that there's a personality in there, but it isn't really coming through yet. If that's the case, try to put a finger on what that personality is. What would it sound like it if you turned up the volume?<br />
<br />
If you come up with a few different voices, try to pick a main one. It's okay to have different personalities, of course. But when you're representing yourself to the public, it really helps to have a primary personality that people can relate with. Don't talk like a professor one day and swear like a sailor the next.<br />
<br />
Find your marketing voice, and run with it! The more you dial up your personality, the more likely people are to be attracted to your business.<br />

<h2 style="text-align: left;">
What is Personality Marketing? </h2>
Example: Let's take Oprah... she is one of the most powerful women in the world, able to take unknown authors to the top of the New York Time bestseller list just by mentioning them on her show. Her entire business is built around her personality.<br />
<br />
People will often follow websites not for the content, but because people like the <i>personality</i> behind the website. In many industries, success is determined much more by your personality than by anything else.<br />
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
Most People Are Afraid to Let it Shine</h3>
Everyone has a personality. When you're with your friends, you probably say things spontaneously that are simply hilarious. And you probably aren't afraid to express your own opinions.<br />
<br />
But online, people tend to tone their personality down. They sound "proper" rather than spontaneous. They err on being right down the middle, rather than risk their audience by expressing an actual opinion for fear of being rejected.<br />
<br />
This can only get you so far, but you can't build a successful business on it. Most people are afraid that they'll lose their audience if they let their personality out. The opposite is true. You need to remember that when you create content, you are doing so to build relationships. How can you build a relationship with your audience if you aren't being your true self?<br />
<br />
When you withhold your personality, you don't grow your audience. You will sound false. People just won't be that drawn to your work. When you really express your personality, it's true that some people will be polarized away from your work. But those people weren't really your audience anyway. Don't be afraid to lose a few people who don't connect with you. By letting your personality shine, you'll grow your following of people who appreciate your business.<br />
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
How to Let Go</h3>
Telling someone to just express their personality can be about as useful as telling someone to just "be yourself". For some people, it just doesn't come easily at first. So what can you do?<br />
<br />
Grab some paper and a pen. Write your blog topic, as if you were just talking to yourself or writing an email to a friend. Talk the way you normally would. Pour your emotions, inner thoughts, and quick witticisms into the post.<br />
<br />
Once you're done, let it sit for a day, then use that rough draft as the outline or foundation for your post. Polish it up a bit but keep the personality.<br />
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
Feeling the Love</h3>
I think the best thing about letting your personality out is the awesome response you'll get from your audience. People will be much more excited about your work and look forward to hearing more from you when you're pouring your heart into it. They will feel more of a connection, and be more comfortable leaving comments and responding to you.<br />
<br />
Start letting your personality out to your audience. Then listen to their feedback. Let the excitement from your audience pour over into your own excitement, and use that to bring even more emotion into your personality marketing.

<b>The Holidays are upon us!</b><br />
<br />
There are parties to attend, and plan. Concerts to go to. Shopping to finish. Gifts to make. Cards to send. The house to decorate. Oh, and don't forget about your business!<br />
<br />
So much to do, so little time... and there's even less time if you've become a "Yes" person.<br />
<br />
<b>Have you become a "Yes" person?</b><br />
<br />
My mom was a "Yes" person. She was involved in so many things... always busy. When I got older, I started having people ask me to do things, be on this committee, volunteer for this or that. My mom pulled me aside and told me that I need to learn to say NO. Know your limits and don't give away all of your time. It took me a few years before I really understood what she meant by that, and now, I can say no without feeling guilty.<br />
<br />
But knowing how to say no isn't something that comes naturally to a lot of people. It sure was rough for me. But if your tendency to spew out the yes word on autopilot is beginning to grate on you (and your family), then it’s high time to take some corrective action and stop surrendering your free time to the needs of others.<br />
<br />
Please know that I don't mean you shouldn't volunteer, or belong to a service group, or offer to help someone. This is about saying yes to <i>yourself</i> and <i>your family</i>. Yes to finishing work and spending time with the kids. Yes to an early night with a book or yes to ordering in a pizza. It's about knowing what you can do, knowing your limits... time limits & spending limits.<br />
<br />
I know it can be hard turning people away when you have been that yes person for so long. At first, I would feel horrible when I had to refuse to help someone out. But then I realized that saying NO does not make me a bad person. It simply means I am respecting the fact that I can’t or don’t want to do something. The key to saying no effectively is to keep calm, smile, and be assertive. <br />
<br />
<b>How to say NO without feeling guilty:</b><br />
<br />
<u><b>Be gracious</b></u><br />
If you decline a request politely you won’t have to worry about hurting the other person’s feelings. They will understand that it’s something you can’t do for them and will appreciate you letting them know in a gentle and caring manner. Often a smile and a simple ‘I’m sorry but...’ will do.<br />
<br />
<b><u>Be honest</u></b><br />
The <i>worst</i> thing you can do is make up some elaborate excuse as to why you can’t do something. Not only do you run the risk of the person finding out about your white lie, but you will start to feel guilty for not being truthful. We're trying to get away from the guilt, not create more! Instead, be upfront and tell the requester you won’t be able to help. You don't need an elaborate explanation.<br />
<br />
<u><b>Stop the Guilt</b></u><br />
A strong desire to please other people is often at the root of why some people not only struggle to say no, but feel guilty about it afterwards. No one wants to be thought of as rude or unhelpful and we all want to avoid conflict, but you can't please everyone. And how pleased would that person be if they knew that you were over-extending yourself by saying yes to their request? Then <i>they</i> would probably feel guilty.<br />
<br />
<u><b>Know that it’s OK</b></u><br />
It’s your prerogative whether or not you want to do something and it’s OK for you to say no. In fact it’s healthy to do so, particularly if something is going to take up your much needed time and space.<br />
<br />
Learning how to say no is learning how to be a better communicator, not just with the person you are refusing but with yourself. Sure it may be tough turning other people down if your natural instinct is to say yes, but there are simply times when you deserve to put <u><b>your</b></u> needs before others.<br />

When you have your own business, managing your time can be rough. Especially if you also have a full time job and are starting your business on the side. It can feel like there are never enough hours in the day, and that's on a <i>good</i> day! Pile on some stress and you can find your self paralyzed like a deer in headlights.<br />
<br />
Poor time management is one of the top causes for stress, right up there with money and relationship issues. To make matters worse, stress often makes it harder to properly manage your time. People with a lot of stress tend to be more easily distracted, have more to do in less time, and already have so much on their mind that changing habits can be very difficult. It's a vicious circle.<br />
<br />
Poor Time Management = Stress<br />
Stress = Poor Time Management<br />
<br />
<br />
Does this sound familiar?<br />
<br />
People with poor time management skills often go through the day wondering where their time is going and then worry about finding time to get things done. They are normally overbooked and with little time for themselves or their family. There is always one more thing to get done. They unknowingly procrastinate to the point there is no way to get things done in time. Many of these people have trouble prioritizing their tasks or are easily distracted, easily getting wrapped up in activities like checking facebook, watching their stats on a site, or checking their email. Others have trouble telling people “No” or are easily overwhelmed by large projects.<br />
<br />
<br />
Ready to ditch the stress? Here are a few tips for managing your time better and help you get rid of your excess stress.<br />
<br />
<b>1. Make a list of what needs to get done the next day each day before bed.</b> Doing this at night is better than in the morning because you start your day already having a list of what you need to do.<br />
<br />
<b>2. Always prioritize your tasks.</b> Get the most important tasks done first so you can relax and work your way through the rest of your list.<br />
<br />
<b>3. Schedule your tasks.</b> Figure out about how long they will take and decide what time you will do them. Be sure to plan in some breaks and room for any unexpected tasks!<br />
<br />
<b>4. Learn to say “No” if you don't have time to do something.</b> If you are having trouble finishing what is already on your plate, don't add more! I know it's hard to say no to someone but what you are really doing is saying YES to yourself and your family.<br />
<br />
<b>5. Delegate if you can.</b> Sometimes that is the best way to get everything done. Have a pile of work to do but also have a pile of laundry a mile high? Perhaps it's time to teach someone else how to do the laundry... or cook a meal... or clean the bathroom.<br />
<br />
<b>6. Don't forget breaks!</b> Try and plan to get up and walk around for about 10 minutes every hour. Sitting in one place isn't good for your body or your mind and the breaks will help keep you from getting distracted easily. Drink a glass of water. Do some sit ups. Stretch. Go throw in that load of laundry. Walk to the corner. MOVE!<br />
<br />
<b>7. Break your big projects into small, manageable chunks so you don't get overwhelmed. </b>Turn that big project into a list and work through it.<br />
<br />
Once you are getting the hang of things you can also start looking into time management systems like the <a href="http://www.blogger.com/%3Ca%20href=%22http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1934356506/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=1934356506&linkCode=as2&tag=thegeekery0a-20%22%3EPomodoro%20Technique%20Illustrated:%20Can%20You%20Focus%20-%20Really%20Focus%20-%20for%2025%20Minutes?%20(Pragmatic%20Life)%3C/a%3E%3Cimg%20src=%22http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=thegeekery0a-20&l=as2&o=1&a=1934356506%22%20width=%221%22%20height=%221%22%20border=%220%22%20alt=%22%22%20style=%22border:none%20!important;%20margin:0px%20!important;%22%20/%3E" target="_blank">Pomodoro technique</a>, based around using timers to make sure you take breaks and help keep your mind on track. I love my timer! By setting my timer for tasks, I'm amazed at what I can accomplish. I did have to get a timer that continues to go off until I manually turn it off and I have to set it across the room. I started ignoring the timer that beeped once.<br />
<br />

the weather in Minnesota.<br />
Don't like it?<br />
Wait a minute, it'll change.<br />
<br />
The difference is, I'm prepared for the weather. I've lived here my whole life so when it comes to weather, I'm ready. I have everything from snow suits to swim suits. I know to dress in layers. The weather here can change fast... <i><u>almost</u></i> as fast as changes hit facebook.<br />
<br />
<b>The problem is, we don't have the facebook equivalent of a meteorologist.</b><br />
<br />
<b></b>There's no way to predict a snow storm on facebook and that's kind of what happened. We were hit and not ready. Grab your shovels.<br />
<br />
One thing we Minnesotans all have is an emergency kit in our trunks. Snow shovel, kitty litter for traction, blankets, snacks, flashlight, etc. because you just never know when you might need it. You can be merrily driving along when that rain turns to ice and you end up in the ditch.<br />
<br />
Kinda like what has been happening on Facebook, right? What we need is a <i><a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/113831774/facebook-posting-kit" target="_blank">Facebook Posting Kit</a></i> to keep us going. (More on that later)<br />
<br />
<b>Reach: Facebook Clipped our Wingspan </b><br />
<br />
You probably noticed less engagement on your business page lately and many people posted the "Create an Interest List" plea on their pages. <a href="http://kellyjsorenson.blogspot.com/2012/10/2-quick-things-you-can-do-now-to-combat.html" target="_blank">Read last weeks post for my thoughts on that.</a><br />
<br />
Well it all kind of bummed me out. I mean, I'm taking the time to create images, share photos, and find great articles and links... and nothing is happening on my page. I was putting an image with every post. I was liking and sharing. Blah. My reach was falling faster than a golf-ball sized hail stone and my fan engagement was gone like a fart in the wind.<br />
<br />
Then I noticed something...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTVrDvYNcsP1cW1sB6CMGdat5EFXV9XEyPeqWBTiC7QkCTgpAADCojdi1pa-uA56oHmJGgpzdVdBO3t8TzHHLG3IKxSqJNfqn4TAb0Oa0_Hy05rSw5hEZkwGpDW8xZ2aMpucOJsq3o-sjB/s1600/sunday+fb+reach.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="193" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTVrDvYNcsP1cW1sB6CMGdat5EFXV9XEyPeqWBTiC7QkCTgpAADCojdi1pa-uA56oHmJGgpzdVdBO3t8TzHHLG3IKxSqJNfqn4TAb0Oa0_Hy05rSw5hEZkwGpDW8xZ2aMpucOJsq3o-sjB/s400/sunday+fb+reach.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<b>My text only status updates were getting 3 times as many views.</b> A few weeks back, I read this article showing <a href="http://businessamongmoms.com/blog/2012/10/16/one-easy-trick-increase-your-facebook-reach/" target="_blank">how to increase facebook page reach</a> on <a href="http://www.businessamongmoms.com/" target="_blank">Business Among Moms</a>. (found thanks to the wonderful Renae Christine of <a href="http://www.richmombusiness.com/" target="_blank">Rich Mom Business</a>) The article stated that you could increase your reach by posting any link you wanted to share in the first comment of your post instead of in the post itself. I tried it a few times but didn't take much notice of my stats. Then I posted a few other "text only" status updates and bam... it hit me like a wet February snowball. Reach had tripled. Fan engagement was way way up. Hello fans, I've missed you!<br />
<br />
For the next few days I only posted text updates with a smattering of shared posts and photos just to see if the results were a fluke.<br />
<br />
Not a fluke. And it wasn't just me. Others were seeing the same thing. But I also have read that it isn't working this way for everyone. What?<br />
<br />
<b>So what's going on?!</b><br />
<b><br /></b>We've all been posting images with our posts, has facebook decided to penalize photos and shares? As soon as we all revert to posting text only statuses, will they revert to photos being the way to post again? What is facebook up to?<br />
<br />
One thing is certain... facebook IS going to change again. And again. And again. You might like some changes. You might not.<br />
<br />
All we can do is watch the skies (<u>our own stats</u>), be ready for changes, and keep posting!<br />
<br />
<b>KEEP POSTING</b><br />
<br />
1. Posts should get your customers to talk. Facebook is a party. Do you walk around parties thrusting examples of your work in stranger's faces? Nope. You strike up a conversation. Come up with some small talk. A bit of chit chat that has nothing to do with you trying to sell something. It's called "Relationship Marketing" because if you build a good relationship, people will want to buy from you.<br />
<br />
2. Posts should stay positive. Don't ask if anyone can see your post. Don't beg for people to like your page. Don't tell people to create an interest list. <u>It's a turn off.</u><br />
<br />
3. Don't post one style of post all the time. Switch it up a bit so you can see what style of post is getting YOU the best results. Every page is different and so is every page fan. Do what is working for <u>you</u>. If you see more engagement with photo posts, do lots of those. If you see more with text posts, that's what you should do. Just remember to throw in the other styles so you can watch the results and change things up if need be.<br />
<br />
4. Post often but keep them 3 hours apart. Too many posts at once is spammy and people will unlike your page. Posting infrequently means your edgerank is going down down down! You need to keep people engaged with your page, or they may no longer see you in their feed. If you have fans around the world, schedule some posts for them too!<br />
<br />
5. Start a newsletter and build your list. Yes, you do need a newsletter. Trust me.<br />
<br />
6. Start blogging if you haven't already.<br />
<br />
<i>Need more help?</i> I have a brand new <b><a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/113831774/facebook-posting-kit" target="_blank">Facebook Posting Kit</a> </b>in the shop. Post styles and ideas, a schedule sheet, check lists, simple graphic backgrounds to create your own images for pinning, posting and blogging, and a bunch of other goodies.<br />

Has your facebook engagement dropped? I know it has for my page. I also now see fewer updates in my newsfeed from the pages I like. So people started posting the "Please add me to an Interest List" post. Basically, we have been reduced to begging our fans to add us to an interest list so they'll see our updates. It's not real classy... but aside from paying facebook, what's a small business to do??<br />
<br />
Well, there are two things you can do.<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>1. Make your own dang interest list. </b></span><br />
There's a problem with that post that's going around. You've just asked the fans that already see your posts to the time to create an interest list and add you to it. How many people do you think are going to take the time to do this? Remember... you want to make it easy for people to see you... you want to make it as easy as humanly possible. So instead of telling them to do the work, you do it yourself. Create an interest list on facebook of pages and people that your fans... your target market... will WANT to follow.<br />
<br />
For example: Let's say you make tutus for pets. Your target market is made up of pet lovers. You would want to include other facebook pages that your target market will be interested in. Pages with pet care tips, pet food recipes, pet leashes, pet toys, pet beds, pet tips, and maybe some funny pet pages.<br />
<br />
You would create your own interest list, including your own page in it, and then ask your fans to subscribe to the interest list. All they have to do is click the subscribe button... easy peasy! Much easier than trying to create their own list.<br />
<br />
So make your own list, promote it, promote it, promote it, and ask others to promote it.<br />
<br />
If you've never created an interest list, here's a quick tutorial:<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen" frameborder="0" height="356" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" scrolling="no" src="http://www.slideshare.net/slideshow/embed_code/14850663" style="border-width: 1px 1px 0; border: 1px solid #CCC; margin-bottom: 5px;" width="427"> </iframe> <br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 5px;">
<strong> <a href="http://www.slideshare.net/kellyjsorenson/creating-an-interest-list-on-facebook" target="_blank" title="Creating an Interest List on Facebook">Creating an Interest List on Facebook</a> </strong> from <strong><a href="http://www.slideshare.net/kellyjsorenson" target="_blank">Kelly Sorenson</a></strong> <br />
<br />
Of course, I created an interest list for all of you. Pages I think you will all love! Lots of social media and business information here!<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><i>(click the image, click subscribe)</i></b></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.facebook.com/lists/4112082475070" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="169" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFFxkWLoB1aUbQFoHHjU4Qt7A8xSvchcuYFFm5dhliZceXnBoSe4rdTOoLG47ZFoC_Hj98YQUV-xe2BcdM4J7mPxZO8Pl29ayijPEzQu3_lNyKkgxJRN2w1Vrm-_mA_i66GEM2m1qr1ymF/s320/fb+list.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br /></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>2. Sign the petition!</b></span><br />
One of the pages included in the interest list I created is <a href="https://www.facebook.com/mysocialidentity" target="_blank">Social Identities</a>. Hugh has started a petition to have edgerank made an option or at least less intrusive so people don't miss so many posts. You can find the petition here:<br />
<a href="http://www.change.org/petitions/facebook-make-edgerank-an-option-and-let-us-control-our-own-newsfeed" target="_blank">Make Edgerank an Option and Let US Control Our Own Newsfeed</a><br />
He's also set up a facebook page called <a href="https://www.facebook.com/MakeEdgerankAnOption" target="_blank">Make Edgerank an Option</a> to help promote the petition.<br />
<br />
Go LIKE those pages, sign the petition, and share it on your facebook page! Maybe we can get facebook to turn this whole mess around.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKHuXeiYEPAFmGSjd7JufVfL73a_LWOSkyQAAz1d5YhJqA2PXydoBHdW4UtaqbERuDhzgkB7YDXNDDj7jZ50D2fWICUmlTeZfiRLAJr_ntg5U-EoVWLn4lp8R6jDGrkLlzvPyBXvOnG3g_/s1600/etsy+versary.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="264" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKHuXeiYEPAFmGSjd7JufVfL73a_LWOSkyQAAz1d5YhJqA2PXydoBHdW4UtaqbERuDhzgkB7YDXNDDj7jZ50D2fWICUmlTeZfiRLAJr_ntg5U-EoVWLn4lp8R6jDGrkLlzvPyBXvOnG3g_/s320/etsy+versary.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
On October 15, 2010, my friend Maria told me that she wanted to open an Etsy shop to sell her baby blankets. She asked me to make some graphics for her shop... a banner and an avatar. YAY! I love making graphics so I sat down and googled "etsy shop banner" to see what size I needed to make her designs. What came up wasn't dimensions... it was shops, on etsy, that sell graphics. I think I about fainted. It was a huge lightbulb moment for me. So I signed up for a seller account and went to bed with way too many ideas floating madly in my head. I don't think I slept much that night.<br />
<br />
The next morning was a Saturday. I informed everyone that I was not to be disturbed, unless they were bringing me food. I sat down at the computer and didn't move for 12 hours. I did it all! I created and researched and worded and tagged and really didn't know what I was doing but at the end of 12 hours, I had 13 logo designs listed in my brand new etsy shop! I was exhausted when I clicked the Publish button on that last listing. I was SO excited... and a bit jittery from lack of food because no one brought me any. I called the fam in to see my masterpiece... but there was a problem. There were only 12 listings showing! I panicked. What had I done wrong? I figured out which one was missing. Why was it gone? Was there a problem? Did etsy not like my listing? Were they shutting me down!! Did I violate some rule? I freaked out for a few minutes before I realized... it had sold. I had sold my first logo within 15 minutes of listing it. <br />
<br />
I. Was. Hooked.<br />
<div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div>
And that is why I really celebrate today, October 16th. It's the day I completed my shop and sold my first logo design online. It might say the 15th on my shop but that's just the day I created my username. But hey... I guess I can celebrate two days... right?<br />
<br />
Two months later, my etsy shop became my full time job. The past two years have been AWESOME! I've met some incredible people through my shop... made some wonderful friends. I never dread getting up in the morning and I actually look forward to Monday. I don't need or even want to take a vacation. In fact, a few weeks ago we went up north for one night and it was a bit hard for me to leave work behind. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I don't think of my etsy shop as work. I think of it as fun! Every day I think... what can I make next? What do people need? What do they want? And that's what I try to make.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJC375_fgXMoVd_62lBfwG2GyQ8sXNPdHfsFu4vSOYCgh9PAWWGkM4zYnbTxRUCh6p31cNHLuB2_NSHTFM8dGXEywEIAT53Ypj86R0iv5FeOwGK16MK3bqIgwCuDK6pvh-Mhpo4wJoi-VC/s1600/twitter+redesign.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="170" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJC375_fgXMoVd_62lBfwG2GyQ8sXNPdHfsFu4vSOYCgh9PAWWGkM4zYnbTxRUCh6p31cNHLuB2_NSHTFM8dGXEywEIAT53Ypj86R0iv5FeOwGK16MK3bqIgwCuDK6pvh-Mhpo4wJoi-VC/s200/twitter+redesign.png" width="200" /></a></div>
If I left the house (which I rarely do)<br />
<div>
and I had accidentally put on two different shoes</div>
<div>
or if I had on an outfit that looked horrible,</div>
<div>
I would want a friend to tell me.</div>
<div>
Instantly.</div>
<div>
So I could fix it.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Twitter, darling, you need to go home and change.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The twitter redesign is, in my opinion, horrendous. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<i>**on a side note, do you know there are only four words in the English language that end in -dous? <strike>First person to <a href="http://www.twitter.com/kellyjsorenson" target="_blank">tweet me</a> the other three words gets a 25% off coupon for anything in the shop... excludes custom work, of course. </strike> This has already been given to a quick tweeting smarty pants!</i></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Back to twitter... normally I would see this as a challenge. Find a way to make it work! Find a creative way to make a fabulous twitter header. This time though, I throw my hands up in disgust. If they removed the shaded overlay... things might work but as it is... no. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I will admit, I did see one that looked ok. HughBriss made a nice header that blends with the avatar: <a href="https://twitter.com/HughBriss">https://twitter.com/HughBriss</a> and it fits his style nicely. Maybe I'm just grumpy about it because it doesn't fit my style nicely. bah.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So, being the good friend that I am, I told twitter. I tweeted them. I emailed them. I sent them an image and said that anything would look better than what they have right now. Here's the image I sent them: </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQd7PfLRB-gm4w6aUDN4ewOZPSZfsId7YV5WBc03IfZd_btH5n1WqopvZ8bvRVzcaoSp4IWWWoXZv24e70rJtnQ4cFDR421AeLd-Fq8Qkm2pomNFgQ8excKOsPywp-29dNn31W-Q1exFkj/s1600/new+twitter.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="248" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQd7PfLRB-gm4w6aUDN4ewOZPSZfsId7YV5WBc03IfZd_btH5n1WqopvZ8bvRVzcaoSp4IWWWoXZv24e70rJtnQ4cFDR421AeLd-Fq8Qkm2pomNFgQ8excKOsPywp-29dNn31W-Q1exFkj/s320/new+twitter.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I've gotten no response. Maybe twitter is that friend that doesn't take kind criticism well... or worse... what if they are one of those friends who tells you that those jeans look great on you when in reality they make your butt look big.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
"No really, that header and avatar combo looks GREAT on you!" (snicker)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Well since it's here, we might as well go over how to change your graphics. First off, you need an image that is 1252 x 626. Once you have that... </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Head over to your twitter page and click on the gear. Click on Settings.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhak4BfttSoU7T23y7kHeBWYWNTYlB9UAo1ul7FAGrzkybwLu7YUfSVjg5m_0XHrYJ0DM-AZxUdsVkw4Iu9D84rp2fIsMoyN65aTsS43DCNl8O4BJUIjwH2P3F2-gEQrRkJA5LUeyUXduoO/s1600/settings+on+twitter.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="288" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhak4BfttSoU7T23y7kHeBWYWNTYlB9UAo1ul7FAGrzkybwLu7YUfSVjg5m_0XHrYJ0DM-AZxUdsVkw4Iu9D84rp2fIsMoyN65aTsS43DCNl8O4BJUIjwH2P3F2-gEQrRkJA5LUeyUXduoO/s320/settings+on+twitter.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
On the left side, click on the Design tab... and then scroll down.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwtuvyRmQx_I4RGpwLWp_KRFs7LFAN5z_cdPllLs1goL2X-bvCeFDjWjNAw7JtTPYJYqaMS9r1eP6jyR2hVJ0SVk0bSts42CpjhiS0Qgiy6cK2g_WCBQNKOlaQCAMzz_Bbc04ZRE6wSRf2/s1600/twitter+design+page.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="290" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwtuvyRmQx_I4RGpwLWp_KRFs7LFAN5z_cdPllLs1goL2X-bvCeFDjWjNAw7JtTPYJYqaMS9r1eP6jyR2hVJ0SVk0bSts42CpjhiS0Qgiy6cK2g_WCBQNKOlaQCAMzz_Bbc04ZRE6wSRf2/s320/twitter+design+page.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Click the Change Image header and click Choose existing image.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3F29uws2xy9UC_RlaMDLkszTNn0Wn5RfoLoq6EOuUh4KPqMvQDd19uQ-hcMjTM6cK01wqyrGmjvTpQABtj5k6RXSwe0HKp5AoHIV6DzVuQyfgkPvY9vkFJaK0muPApAGKo18Q68Mf5HUO/s1600/change+image.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3F29uws2xy9UC_RlaMDLkszTNn0Wn5RfoLoq6EOuUh4KPqMvQDd19uQ-hcMjTM6cK01wqyrGmjvTpQABtj5k6RXSwe0HKp5AoHIV6DzVuQyfgkPvY9vkFJaK0muPApAGKo18Q68Mf5HUO/s320/change+image.jpg" width="318" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
You'll then be able to choose your file from your computer. Then you'll get a screen like this:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPe10xX8ntQc6qN23FMbohS7bAaSlwuk7xzxX6CTfaTTJy0wDQK7SCNMOD9yEW6AVR66dU2rFjvcB6mYi88SYiBIqctWRVE40sXLSqIFCxIU_wpVCtJBHJpWa79Odz1wIKg6WvGPq3Xh6I/s1600/pick+image.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="249" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPe10xX8ntQc6qN23FMbohS7bAaSlwuk7xzxX6CTfaTTJy0wDQK7SCNMOD9yEW6AVR66dU2rFjvcB6mYi88SYiBIqctWRVE40sXLSqIFCxIU_wpVCtJBHJpWa79Odz1wIKg6WvGPq3Xh6I/s320/pick+image.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
See that little slider? Don't mess with it. When I did, I had to reupload my file. Not sure if that has changed but that's how it was when I did it. Just hit save.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Then you're going to see the little wheel spinning while Twitter sets your header. Wait for it or you get to do it all over again. Twitter is kinda touchy... kinda glitchy. Sometimes I've had to upload things over and over to get them to work properly.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And there you have it. Your header is up and covered with a dirty gray overlay. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Seriously... who thought this overlay business was a good idea??? They need a good friend to tell them that it's just not working.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>

Here's a quick and easy tutorial for adding text to the blank <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/99468336/22-facebook-timeline-app-covers" target="_blank">app covers</a> I sell in my shop. It shows how to add text and how to install them on your facebook business page. Remember, not all of the apps can have custom images. Facebooks native apps can not be altered: photos, likes, and notes can't be changed.<br />
<br />
There are 22 app covers in the listing... 11 blank and 11 with text already on them. The color of the blanks can be altered a bit in PicMonkey by clicking on Effects and scrolling down to Tint. You can't specify an exact color but you will be able to change the color.<br />
<br />
Hope you find this tutorial helpful! I'd appreciate it if you would share my tutorial page with your friends. I'll be adding more and more so if you would like to see a tutorial on a specific topic, drop me a line!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKUkhW22esBkw6Kgc89vQCM_Q9FoxP8vIijPIamoWCbfFpDJN1XpA0HFiqBktcY8SUaB0wwaizVAtxCIv4eUsRWbD00ZYILm02rp4lr5hTFSL6QUivh-GO9bVnXi-XTHRX6-EryBeaKmwF/s1600/change-ahead-sign.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKUkhW22esBkw6Kgc89vQCM_Q9FoxP8vIijPIamoWCbfFpDJN1XpA0HFiqBktcY8SUaB0wwaizVAtxCIv4eUsRWbD00ZYILm02rp4lr5hTFSL6QUivh-GO9bVnXi-XTHRX6-EryBeaKmwF/s320/change-ahead-sign.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Holy crap Facebook has been mixing things up! The changes are flying onto our screens faster than you can say Mark Zuckerberg 5 times fast.<br />
<br />
How to keep up with all the changes?<br />
<br />
Well if you're reading this, you're in the right place. I'll keep updating this post as more changes come in... which seems to be daily.<br />
<br />
If you follow me on Facebook, I always post the changes as I see them.<br />
<br />
<b>The problem is... you may not be seeing all the posts I make.</b><br />
<br />
Why?<br />
<br />
<i>It isn't because the creepers on facebook are maliciously hiding them.</i><br />
<br />
It's because: 1. Not everyone is online when I post them, meaning you would have to scroll way down to find it in your newsfeed, depending on how long ago I posted it and 2. how often you interact with my page because if you don't like or comment or share, you won't see me as often AND 3. it depends on what your settings are. You've all seen graphics like this one being posted, well if you WANT to see me it needs to look like this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQuBnmJmWDLpbnQA_2FFF0PLYIFS9wmgPGfx_lTOkNJTA6F5ad5PtV2oFceApKIt6J4IiUP8T_RhN_13IYFbuS1AHOv4yHQNpdpaliPdHCeiPY9-LuTe3iJJ4gjv0BQU3QwsMJ2jhMzE8G/s1600/Like+Me+Facebook+Graphic.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQuBnmJmWDLpbnQA_2FFF0PLYIFS9wmgPGfx_lTOkNJTA6F5ad5PtV2oFceApKIt6J4IiUP8T_RhN_13IYFbuS1AHOv4yHQNpdpaliPdHCeiPY9-LuTe3iJJ4gjv0BQU3QwsMJ2jhMzE8G/s320/Like+Me+Facebook+Graphic.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
It's always been this way.<br />
<br />
The stats didn't change. Facebook isn't suddenly hiding our posts. It's always been at 16% as an average, but now you can check your percentage on each post. At the bottom of every post you'll see the number of people who saw your post and the percent of your fans who saw the post.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyZKr8LMoz4z2_B22kWvojKJrkd60pA4RTfWIrH1ozfLFRFvpwvOA6AMM4mZjs84w2FcYBDC3PLqzcmRQDTz0jYqfRe9HMHck653wKjsI38pRr0drlNGwBqrUG2CDm4fWYvkPWCRXwvgGu/s1600/FB+like+me.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyZKr8LMoz4z2_B22kWvojKJrkd60pA4RTfWIrH1ozfLFRFvpwvOA6AMM4mZjs84w2FcYBDC3PLqzcmRQDTz0jYqfRe9HMHck653wKjsI38pRr0drlNGwBqrUG2CDm4fWYvkPWCRXwvgGu/s400/FB+like+me.jpg" width="342" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The more people like, comment on, and share your post... the more the numbers go up. You can see all the stats when you click on the Insights section of your Admin dashboard.<br />
<br />
You don't HAVE to buy promoted posts for people to see them. What you HAVE to do is <i>be interesting</i> enough for your fans to like, share, and comment. So you better up your game... and up your edgerank.<br />
<br />
If you want to buy a promoted post, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=295634557185299" target="_blank">here is an example of what one looks like</a>.<br />
<br />

<b><br /></b><br />
Keep in mind that people will be able to look at your initial comment... so Trolls beware! Once something is online, it's there forever. Snarky comments can still be seen!<br />
<br />
<b>New Hover Image</b><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzdl-GHZSjC2Si6tYtabuwFBjPBkG-6PhLJyA26BcABP9tMl1u9zCJ4RejOcOqGjCixQpJaL0FMFQI3siLBaeyypiiT3uRYRHx95A_lOt2hyG_j3PWbFDZ3ZA6YP8SG8L3KHdb0sEdRNFs/s1600/FB+hover+image.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzdl-GHZSjC2Si6tYtabuwFBjPBkG-6PhLJyA26BcABP9tMl1u9zCJ4RejOcOqGjCixQpJaL0FMFQI3siLBaeyypiiT3uRYRHx95A_lOt2hyG_j3PWbFDZ3ZA6YP8SG8L3KHdb0sEdRNFs/s320/FB+hover+image.png" width="317" /></a></div>
<br />
Hovering your mouse over a name or page now has a new view! Take a look at yours and make sure you like what you see. I know I plan on changing my timeline cover because of this new look.<br />
<br />
<b>Facebook Email? </b><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
That's right! Those crazy kids at facebook went and done hid your proper email. They swapped it out with a facebook email so that people trying to contact you will stay in the system. Here's how you can fix it:<br />
<br />
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 18px;">1. Click "About" on your profile and scroll down to your email address. Click "Edit" to change them.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="text_exposed_show" style="color: #333333; display: inline; font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 18px;">2. Click on the circle next to your Facebook email address and change its setting to "Hidden From Timeline".<br /><br />3. Click on the circle next to your other email addresses and change their settings to "Shown On Timeline".<br /><br />4. Click the Save button at the bottom of the Edit popup (Don't forget this step).</span>
<br />
<br />
Props to <a href="http://lifehacker.com/5921095/facebook-just-changed-your-email-without-permission-heres-how-to-get-it-back" target="_blank">Lifehacker</a> for the instructions and heads up on this!<br />
<br />
<b>Who do you want to be?</b><br />
<b><br /></b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiK9YY_izTiz-6aSTPWKjxQ0I6gspca9v6POablWAuXyGJf14Qdj9x97-WiVHllgDfoR3y6yclGZKzivA-I6SJrlYqkTRsqFWZLTMlDcty2uWbG67PAfdnBmyYV0hKZDm_kmljiEL0WnTQ_/s1600/fb+voice.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="192" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiK9YY_izTiz-6aSTPWKjxQ0I6gspca9v6POablWAuXyGJf14Qdj9x97-WiVHllgDfoR3y6yclGZKzivA-I6SJrlYqkTRsqFWZLTMlDcty2uWbG67PAfdnBmyYV0hKZDm_kmljiEL0WnTQ_/s640/fb+voice.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<b><br /></b><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Now your admin panel has a Voice bar across the top of your page so you can see just who you are posting as. The bar scrolls with the page so you'll always see it unless you decide to turn it off.<br />

somewhere on your blog<br />
and you want to add it to your sidebar<br />
AND have it be a clickable link?<br />
<br />
Easy Peasy.<br />
<br />
If you want to use an image that isn't already in your blog someplace, upload it to tinypic.com or photobucket. Use the code they provide but you will need to alter the code that I have colored red on slide 4 to the url of where you want your image to link to.<br />
<br />
This is my first slideshare tutorial so let me know if there is anything I can improve upon :)<br />

<a href="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-graphic.png" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img alt="How to Make Graphics with PicMonkey" class="alignright size-medium wp-image-68" height="300" src="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-graphic.png?w=300" title="How to Make Graphics with PicMonkey" width="300" /></a><br />
<span style="background-color: white;">An image is worth a thousand words.</span><br />
You've probably heard that a thousand times<br />
and it's sweet...<br />
but the truth of the matter is<br />
you want your image to<br />
grab people by the eyeballs<br />
and keep them focused on what you're saying.
<br />
<br />
So everything needs an image.
Everything.<br />
<br />
That's why facebook posts with images get shared and blogs with great images get pinned.<br />
Try to make every post have a graphic.
If you don't have one, create one with <a href="http://picmonkey.com/">PicMonkey.com</a>. It's quick and easy once you get the hang of it.<br />
<br />
First I'll show you how to create a 400x400 blank for quotes if you don't have an image.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-1.png"><img alt="How to Make Graphics with PicMonkey" class="size-full wp-image-70" height="360" src="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-1.png" title="How to Make Graphics with PicMonkey" width="580" /></a><br />
<br />
Go to PicMonkey.com and choose Create a Collage<br />
<br />
<a href="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-2.png"><img alt="How to Make Graphics with PicMonkey" class="size-full wp-image-71 " height="285" src="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-2.png" title="How to Make Graphics with PicMonkey" width="580" /></a><br />
<br />
On the left side, click to choose a collage layout.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-3.png"><img alt="How to Make Graphics with PicMonkey" class="size-full wp-image-72" height="359" src="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-3.png" title="How to Make Graphics with PicMonkey" width="580" /></a><br />
Choose a two cell layout from the Ducks in a Row tab.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-4.png"><img alt="How to Make Graphics with PicMonkey" class="size-full wp-image-73" height="417" src="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-4.png" title="How to Make Graphics with PicMonkey" width="580" /></a><br />
<br />
Delete one of the cells.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-5.png"><img alt="How to Make Graphics with PicMonkey" class="size-full wp-image-74" height="318" src="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-5.png" title="How to Make Graphics with PicMonkey" width="580" /></a><br />
<br />
Unlock the proportions and set the size to 400x400<br />
<br />
<a href="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-6.png"><img alt="How to Make Graphics with PicMonkey" class="size-full wp-image-75 " height="347" src="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-6.png" title="How to Make Graphics with PicMonkey" width="580" /></a><br />
<br />
On the left side, click the painters palette icon to edit the background color.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-7.png"><img alt="" class="size-full wp-image-76" height="297" src="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-7.png" title="picmonkey 7" width="580" /></a><br />
<br />
Choose a color or enter a HEX# to match your branding<br />
<br />
<a href="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-8.png"><img alt="How to Make Graphics with PicMonkey" class="size-full wp-image-77" height="283" src="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-8.png" title="How to Make Graphics with PicMonkey" width="580" /></a><br />
<br />
Click Save<br />
<br />
<a href="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-9.png"><img alt="How to Make Graphics with PicMonkey" class="size-full wp-image-78" height="409" src="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-9.png" title="How to Make Graphics with PicMonkey" width="580" /></a><br />
<br />
Name your file and choose either JPG or PNG. Then choose the quality of the image. I chose the highest quality. Hit Save when you're done!<br />
<br />
<br />
Now you have a background to create images with. The 400x400 size is nice for blog posts and will fit on your facebook page without being cut off.
Let's add some text!<br />
<br />
Again, go to the <a href="http://www.picmonkey.com/" target="_blank">PicMonkey.com</a> homepage<br />
<br />
<a href="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-11.png"><img alt="Make Graphics that Get Shared on Facebook" class="size-full wp-image-83" height="360" src="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-11.png" title="Make Graphics that Get Shared on Facebook" width="580" /></a><br />
<br />
Choose to edit a photo<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYa-mH9tUC6ChlOVealp7BnVUz13weUFQej0wwipte0NqB6xWrSNtYauuX2qws_6IBs26LKqpdyFIPxbTV9-68jSXtA5goEM0j6qle-W_fhGpzb_cZwZtFi_Cq0Fb0oeB4CsKRsMWJ29bz/s1600/picmonkey+12.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Make Graphics that Get Shared on Facebook" border="0" height="356" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYa-mH9tUC6ChlOVealp7BnVUz13weUFQej0wwipte0NqB6xWrSNtYauuX2qws_6IBs26LKqpdyFIPxbTV9-68jSXtA5goEM0j6qle-W_fhGpzb_cZwZtFi_Cq0Fb0oeB4CsKRsMWJ29bz/s640/picmonkey+12.png" title="Make Graphics that Get Shared on Facebook" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Choose the P icon on the left to add text to your graphic. You can change the color, font, and size. Add a second area of text if you want to add in a different font or different sized text. Make sure you add your url to the very bottom so people will know where the image came from. For mine, I made the color a bit transparent so it blended with the background a bit.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-13.png"><img alt="Make Graphics that Get Shared on Facebook" class="size-full wp-image-85" height="366" src="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-13.png" title="Make Graphics that Get Shared on Facebook" width="580" /></a><br />
<br />
You can also add texture to your background. Have fun playing with the settings and be creative. You can make so many different styles of graphics by changing things up.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-14.png"><img alt="Make Graphics that Get Shared on Facebook" class="size-full wp-image-86" height="310" src="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-14.png" title="Make Graphics that Get Shared on Facebook" width="580" /></a><br />
<br />
You can also add shapes to your image and make it any size. Add borders or add an image before you add your text and then add your text on top of it.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-15.png"><img alt="Make Graphics that Get Shared on Facebook" class="size-full wp-image-87" height="366" src="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-15.png" title="Make Graphics that Get Shared on Facebook" width="580" /></a><br />
<br />
Add a drop shadow like in the image I created above, or colored borders, photo corners, film edging or even make your image into a circle. Have fun playing with these!<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-16.png"><img alt="Make Graphics that Get Shared on Facebook" class="size-full wp-image-88" height="473" src="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-16.png" title="Make Graphics that Get Shared on Facebook" width="580" /></a><br />
<br />
When you are done editing, hit the save button in the bottom left corner<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-17.png"><img alt="Make Graphics that Get Shared on Facebook" class="size-full wp-image-89" height="375" src="http://m30x.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/picmonkey-17.png" title="Make Graphics that Get Shared on Facebook" width="580" /></a><br />
<br />
Save the image to your computer. Choose a different name for it so you will be able to use your background over and over again. You can save the image as either a JPG or PNG file. If you choose JPG, choose the quality and then hit save!<br />
<br />
Now you're ready to upload your image in your blog, facebook or google+.<br />
<br />
Let me know if you have ANY questions! Now go play with PicMonkey!<br />

Marketing on social media<br />
takes time, but it's so so crucial<br />
to the success of your business.<br />
<br />
There have been tools to help you<br />
save time by scheduling your posts<br />
ahead of time.<br />
<br />
Third party apps like hootsuite<br />
and timely are great time savers...<br />
<br />
but they have a downside.<br />
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
Sharing is Caring</h3>
When you use a third party app to schedule your posts on facebook, something is missing.<br />
<br />
There is NO share button!<br />
<br />
You want people to be able to share your posts with their friends. You WANT your posts to go viral, but that can't happen if they can't share them.<br />
<br />
So you could either save time and use a third party<br />
OR<br />
post directly from Facebook when you remembered to do it and have "unshareable" posts<br />
<br />
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
Drumroll Please...</h3>
Now... you can schedule your posts right in facebook. Easy Peasy!<br />
<br />

<br /></div>
<div>
This was my old email sig:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYNCbNzli6MvqSrafWaYpXcVnD3fbUyIjG3eIrzw0YEdtCZnixJmwkBKuNZBn0nX8kfp1k9GJ9CmU1gsx0AyAV-hRn9sS5G-9q0HDjOhFrLZuPQc0bbgHQ6Jp6kJMDnTaeDhMMtDI8q8ZP/s1600/old+email+signature.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="email signature branded" border="0" height="242" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYNCbNzli6MvqSrafWaYpXcVnD3fbUyIjG3eIrzw0YEdtCZnixJmwkBKuNZBn0nX8kfp1k9GJ9CmU1gsx0AyAV-hRn9sS5G-9q0HDjOhFrLZuPQc0bbgHQ6Jp6kJMDnTaeDhMMtDI8q8ZP/s320/old+email+signature.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
But I decided I wanted to update it to match the rest of my branding. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
First I added a new signature graphic. Choose the image icon on the toolbar.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGmeQJOcAg3OTpsA7e_Rr2pUWiuWkHT3UL4wyCQeUW6EkVpMfPogP-ie2-zUFnfwWd-T37VxyxxwjpuRtGcW2xdFlY5s5_3VmSiwk-vYRkfI7YR5-ul-izbgqA-7cb744LTyYYjcJzxXY2/s1600/insert+image+on+wisestamp.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="use wisestamp email signature" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGmeQJOcAg3OTpsA7e_Rr2pUWiuWkHT3UL4wyCQeUW6EkVpMfPogP-ie2-zUFnfwWd-T37VxyxxwjpuRtGcW2xdFlY5s5_3VmSiwk-vYRkfI7YR5-ul-izbgqA-7cb744LTyYYjcJzxXY2/s1600/insert+image+on+wisestamp.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now you can upload your image from your computer or from your website if you know the image url. My image is 250 pixels wide. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRlPuzawBddh9jNifegNMVZfEw93CJIPn-xIFSxOhHJpoBjnqIq2Rmv8TBWNBCD9FEJCVFGLHUsy1zxv2XoYK1eiClNZXnkcHIDESHeztdJtIOzzTzieg5QLzRw2XusW9MOdl6oSmmT5Bb/s1600/wisestamp+adding+an+image.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="add logo to email signature" border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRlPuzawBddh9jNifegNMVZfEw93CJIPn-xIFSxOhHJpoBjnqIq2Rmv8TBWNBCD9FEJCVFGLHUsy1zxv2XoYK1eiClNZXnkcHIDESHeztdJtIOzzTzieg5QLzRw2XusW9MOdl6oSmmT5Bb/s320/wisestamp+adding+an+image.jpg" width="310" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now that my image is added, I wanted to update the text I have entered below the image. Type in your text and highlight it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFrlbS4qKYJy8p8-1loRlz2X4Of62-Q46Eh-RNknKzETVXfQZwb914T3QogM_CiDAMD1_R4m3Q7wSQLs_JEek7bEu8IlF9rKOK4vA2zErvFu5gg_2hY58jy4c_ed4R5zMlcoVUxm9wahCQ/s1600/customize+color+url.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFrlbS4qKYJy8p8-1loRlz2X4Of62-Q46Eh-RNknKzETVXfQZwb914T3QogM_CiDAMD1_R4m3Q7wSQLs_JEek7bEu8IlF9rKOK4vA2zErvFu5gg_2hY58jy4c_ed4R5zMlcoVUxm9wahCQ/s400/customize+color+url.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
First I made the text link to the url of my newsletter sign up. Click the link icon:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF0YfIQBr78VNhJ9HkaFnKw_6AaYZjMdyHX0esDhH6KKxmbx0Y1SrFyv1_iTBTtJjbOX7-n4CAZVa5zow8T_xXFd7ahj-g7-RtBt_4WYiTldTzZwgo1XDdLJGZWAMRoD0opL0rRuoF0jZl/s1600/link+to+url.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF0YfIQBr78VNhJ9HkaFnKw_6AaYZjMdyHX0esDhH6KKxmbx0Y1SrFyv1_iTBTtJjbOX7-n4CAZVa5zow8T_xXFd7ahj-g7-RtBt_4WYiTldTzZwgo1XDdLJGZWAMRoD0opL0rRuoF0jZl/s1600/link+to+url.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And enter in the url you want your text to point to. I always opt to have the link open in a new window.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivEJXIVDOMLfb5zmLQPl2oht5MTMyeFPdIIFbm27lxBe-MOu66vKefhOwTNOSE2RCdHQ9ShW4LVvDmhl15hXpaciWEQG5DBccrLYgofQ8KA1fINXEH3kA4vbl89yybDjPEp4WlI4GRmaHP/s1600/text+to+link.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="323" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivEJXIVDOMLfb5zmLQPl2oht5MTMyeFPdIIFbm27lxBe-MOu66vKefhOwTNOSE2RCdHQ9ShW4LVvDmhl15hXpaciWEQG5DBccrLYgofQ8KA1fINXEH3kA4vbl89yybDjPEp4WlI4GRmaHP/s400/text+to+link.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then I change the color of the text to match my branding. Choose the A icon on the toolbar.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You'll see a drop down of set colors to pick from or the option to choose from more colors. I added the HEX # of a color that matches my logo and entered it at the bottom and hit Apply.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you look below the area where you customize your signature, you'll see three tabs. Email Apps, Social Icons, & IM Icons. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Email Apps</b> is where you can add your latest tweets, Facebook posts, shop listings, and more. The only one I use is the LinkedIn App to add the connect button.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ3TbGfY-GHbwFgeZJD89I5iLwsYIRuSncmjxnPyPRiQwqSJMkhSkvhIc1K_CH6uEFXaOAYG4MgGceA1bsBUuE7XDeHKDt2CQuEaKzg2OiBvOak6e71YGI7xODHeFiGFM5QOYsOKiJz0xb/s1600/email+app.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="177" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ3TbGfY-GHbwFgeZJD89I5iLwsYIRuSncmjxnPyPRiQwqSJMkhSkvhIc1K_CH6uEFXaOAYG4MgGceA1bsBUuE7XDeHKDt2CQuEaKzg2OiBvOak6e71YGI7xODHeFiGFM5QOYsOKiJz0xb/s320/email+app.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>IM Icons</b> is where you can add your Skype, Google Talk, Messenger and other IM urls. I don't use any of these in my signature.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Social Icons</b> is where you add in the urls of your social media profiles. This is the jackpot... I use as many of these as I can.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWAaXiXbqQEfHyzgUZPwyO4TfMBHEXp9dLI55l3TM_BbE_DO8ESBI3yZOYneItcInBCsKI_MoKWSHHlYN0GXxIKB51kntW4e0atCuAhdMXGLgY_wG4kP8BymHpyW94cQq42WeSZoOvtdwM/s1600/adding+icons.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWAaXiXbqQEfHyzgUZPwyO4TfMBHEXp9dLI55l3TM_BbE_DO8ESBI3yZOYneItcInBCsKI_MoKWSHHlYN0GXxIKB51kntW4e0atCuAhdMXGLgY_wG4kP8BymHpyW94cQq42WeSZoOvtdwM/s400/adding+icons.jpg" width="397" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once you enter in the urls for all of your icons, hit Preview in the lower left corner and see how it looks.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If it all looks good, close that window and hit Apply!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

When Facebook switched to Timeline<br />
small business owners around the world<br />
gave a collective grumble.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWfOABF4Oxg66PYtaTJOEH9p_AiPULbEaZZ87sXPfq_Hf8HFi4Sgz1J4_F32UbdeCToOLx8NW56qOCexh3kcPuvP_TA9MkhvGqo98_aSQPcN7HQY9wAE6kUG8DMZufg3v_4vWxCye9CXIm/s1600/facebook+tip+social+media+branding+1.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img alt="facebook tips" border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWfOABF4Oxg66PYtaTJOEH9p_AiPULbEaZZ87sXPfq_Hf8HFi4Sgz1J4_F32UbdeCToOLx8NW56qOCexh3kcPuvP_TA9MkhvGqo98_aSQPcN7HQY9wAE6kUG8DMZufg3v_4vWxCye9CXIm/s320/facebook+tip+social+media+branding+1.png" width="320" /></a>One of the biggest complaints I heard was:<br />
<br />
"I hate how all the nice posts people leave on my page are now stuffed into one box!"<br />
<br />
<i>Did you know it doesn't have to be that way?</i><br />
<i><br /></i><br />
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
Make Comments Visible</h3>
<div>
Don't you love getting nice comments from happy customers and followers? Want to get them out of that little box and show them off? It's super easy!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Hover over the comment you want to show on your page and click the X in the top right corner. A drop down menu will show up:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDKRIuHnM5jjaC4ETGaXxbZvamRMH9JxzGJgLHNllAVPqYgipW3_he3EXKCLN5xHEFFEBECa1RKdq99rekzH1Tur4nd6pY-y4xxLcuSMToHDgX4SvGmXzi5_Zi0fT55h1t4YgZCNhw-yhE/s1600/facebook+tip+social+media+branding+2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="facebook small business tips" border="0" height="237" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDKRIuHnM5jjaC4ETGaXxbZvamRMH9JxzGJgLHNllAVPqYgipW3_he3EXKCLN5xHEFFEBECa1RKdq99rekzH1Tur4nd6pY-y4xxLcuSMToHDgX4SvGmXzi5_Zi0fT55h1t4YgZCNhw-yhE/s320/facebook+tip+social+media+branding+2.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Select "Allowed on Page" and voila! The comment is now part of your page, not hidden away in that box on the side.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxNo68fCwmy6dZC6_wGwG4RxwUrmuStFoai3k7KJczCARa_hOdMbWmX3y5noL0Rd2O2TwleT2SeppQS1dHS-hJSV2HRcZrznFtnUaefNR_O_BQuGnoj4juuYddc15JlhLKnEptPk73WIq3/s1600/facebook+tip+social+media+branding+3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="social media tips" border="0" height="221" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxNo68fCwmy6dZC6_wGwG4RxwUrmuStFoai3k7KJczCARa_hOdMbWmX3y5noL0Rd2O2TwleT2SeppQS1dHS-hJSV2HRcZrznFtnUaefNR_O_BQuGnoj4juuYddc15JlhLKnEptPk73WIq3/s320/facebook+tip+social+media+branding+3.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
AND if it's an especially lovely comment, you can highlight it!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8QyL3pWHMt0T7yi_FzegyxDT8tFZkNraJyN-HblgDLRe9-t6aIzxfX8FQkgpRmw8bYss2MeP82ujYZuv2f-Bct9710i4yXPWo1Fx3UtLiJxIiFopP1CnASO2hTO4MzhU3BD3RW08ZzEwm/s1600/facebook+tip+social+media+branding+4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="show wall posts on facebook" border="0" height="86" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8QyL3pWHMt0T7yi_FzegyxDT8tFZkNraJyN-HblgDLRe9-t6aIzxfX8FQkgpRmw8bYss2MeP82ujYZuv2f-Bct9710i4yXPWo1Fx3UtLiJxIiFopP1CnASO2hTO4MzhU3BD3RW08ZzEwm/s400/facebook+tip+social+media+branding+4.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A great way to show off some of your favorite businesses! </div>
