Arlene Martell co-hosts the Affiliate Buzz audio newsletter and is the publisher of EpilepsyMoms.com. Arlene, the author of Getting Adam Back - A Mother’s Triumph over Epilepsy and Autism, went through a struggle with her son, Adam, as he battled with epilepsy and autism.
A change in diet can make a difference. However, there are challenges …
In this edition, Debra and Arlene focus on the challenges associated with making a change in the diets of children with childhood diseases. Especially for children, changing a diet can be extremely stressful.

As you listen to this edition, you will discover how Arlene was able to successfully commit herself to helping Adam become seizure-free.

What do you need to know about changing a diet? During this edition, you will also learn about various aspects that can be a challenge while changing a diet such as family involvement, kitchen utensils, food ingredients and navigating the dynamics when there are other people in the home who are not on a special diet. For example, what happens when your other kids are having cookies, which the child with epilepsy cannot have?

There are techniques that Arlene discusses regarding how she coped with the sudden changes that occurred in Adam’s journey towards a seizure-free life. Adam has now been free of seizures for over 10 years.

In addition, people have usual routines and comfort zones that can be difficult to move away from. In this edition of the audio newsletter, Debra and Arlene also discuss lifestyles that you may be accustomed too. Culture plays a big role in how we live our daily lives. The snacks we live on or the fast foods we are accustomed to can be difficult to break away from.

In this edition you will learn:

The challenges of battling childhood diseases and changing diets
Handling an immediate change to a child’s diet
Maintaining a normal life while on a diet

<itunes:summary>In this edition, Debra Liddell and Arlene Martell discuss innovative strategies regarding complete wellness and the influence of diet on childhood diseases. Debra is the publisher of TheHerbalNutritionist.com and co-author of Journey out of Childhood Obesity and Power to Change.

Arlene Martell co-hosts the Affiliate Buzz audio newsletter and is the publisher of EpilepsyMoms.com, which is a website that provides information and support to other mothers with children who have epilepsy. Arlene is also the author of  Getting Adam Back : A Mother’s Triumph over Epilepsy and Autism.
A Little Boy with Epileptic Seizures
This edition contains insight into the role that diet can play on childhood diseases such as epilepsy and autism. For Arlene, it is a deeply personal story as she describes her beloved son who at a young age was having multiple seizures a day. Over a decade ago, Arlene struggled to win the battle over her son’s health problems and now she is dedicated to spreading awareness about autism and epilepsy to educators, health providers and other parents with children in need. Today, Adam has been drug and seizure-free and drug free for over 10 years!

There are many parents and caregivers of children with childhood diseases. Information about alternatives to medication can provide relief and support in handling these diseases. Arlene’s personal story provides motivation regarding the possibility of getting rid of drastic side-effects from medication while also accomplishing a seizure-free life. As you listen to this edition of the Herbal Nutritionist, Adam’s story shows that health and wellness is possible for those suffering from childhood diseases.
When all seems lost, suddenly a ray of hope appears …
It can seem like a never-ending battle when a care-giver is taking care of a child with a disease. However, diet can have a lasting impact on childhood diseases.

As Adam’s epileptic seizures progressed, he was diagnosed with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, which is a form of epilepsy that is difficult to treat and extremely destructive. At this point, Arlene who was desperate for a solution and at her wits’ end stumbled upon an NBC news story discussing a special diet for children with severe epilepsy.

In this edition you will learn:

A high fat diet that could help kids with severe epilepsy
Metabolic changes in the body as a result of the diet
The relationship between seizures and fasting
How diet affects kids with autism

Childhood diseases can have an impact on every person who is around the child. With a change in diet, seizure-control is possible. A change in diet does not necessarily need to be permanent or suddenly drastic in all cases. Diets can also be extremely beneficial for kids with autism. In this podcast, Arlene provides more information about two websites that offer support: EpilepsyMoms.com and CharlieFoundation.org. Listen to this edition to discover how diets can significantly make a difference in a child who is living with autism or epilepsy.</itunes:summary>
