We here at The Horror Movie Show have begun the year with a bang (we exploded our old accountant; he’d been taking a third smoke break so he had to go) and a series of devastating karate chops that effectively eliminated all the deadwood in our magnificently resplendent offices here on the penthouse floors of the fabulous Splutt Building, located closer than you think.

As to the movies reviewed this week by Mark & Jerry, your savage & unnatural hosts, we have a rather mixed or mongrel collection. We begin with The Howling: Reborn. This flick is aimed at the same youngsters and multi-feline owners as the Twilight series, so be warned. The made-for-TV film Doomsday Prophecy is discussed. And we end this episode with a review of Dog Soldiers, an excellent werewolf movie from 2002, recommended by a listener of our very own Horror Movie Show (thanks!). Hope that’s meaty enough for you all to bury your gorey fangs.

And we’re not even including the further Republican idiocies that will be foisted upon us. Turn your hearing aid off now.

Happy 2012 to all our various listeners, fans, evil-wishers & assorted halflings! We here at The Horror Movie Show sincerely hope that you all had a wonderful Xmas, etc. and are ready to face the coming year with verve and the sort of cockeyed optimism displayed by Billy Mumfries in that MS Elaine was supposed to read.

This, of course, is all beside the point: in this latest episode, Jerry & Mark are ready to “fill you in” on a newish television series out of the Excited States via the Flaming Pit of Hell. American Horror Story is not the only horror series on TV at the moment — haha, it is to laugh — but at least it doesn’t focus on teenagers and their need to suck. Blood, I mean. As well, your poor, put-upon hosts have been forced to watch Paranormal 3, arguably the worst sequel made to a movie so bad it doesn’t deserve a single sequel. It deserves only condemnation & scorn. Heap it on there, people.

Also reviewed: the lacklustre A Haunting in Salem and 11-11-11, an interestingly downplayed horror flick. That’s a nice change. Happy new year!

And so we come to the turning of the year and the hopes & dreams of 2012 are now upon us, whether we like it or not…. Let’s face facts: the New Year has already been written off by a lot of people who claim to know The End Is Nigh. Or are these people simply insane in the brain? Quite possibly. In any case, here is the latest episode of The Horror Movie Show. In this hour-long rantfest are discussions by our beloved hosts, Mark & Jerry, of the third instalment in the Hostel series of nasty videos, a review of In Time starring Justin Timberlake and that young lady with the prominent eyeballs, discussion of both Ninjas Vs. Zombies & Ninjas Vs. Vampires. And finally a lively discussion of the low-grade horror comedy Orcs! (the exclamation mark is part of the title; it’s not like I’m particularly excited about the flick).

There have been plenty of Hellraiser movies, Clive Barker‘s massively popular celebration of the sadistic and horrid. The latest is another disappointment in a series that started strongly and is now little more than a cheap money-grab. There are plenty of better movies out there.

Other flicks mentioned in this all-too-brief episode include Escapee, with Prison Break‘s Dominic Purcell as a murdering maniac (can’t be bad…); Repeaters, a rather more serious version of the Groundhog Day idea starring teenagers; and The Woman, writer-director Lucky McKee‘s parable of repressed sex & violence in American Suburbia. John Carpenter‘s sizable reputation certainly wasn’t hurt by the lacklustre prequel to his great movie The Thing, but your poor, put-upon hosts Mark & Jerry have plenty to say about the much-anticipated Scandinavian megaflop. Also on this episode of The Horror Movie Show, we hear our hapless hosts discuss the first half of the second season of The Walking Dead. Other flicks considered bletherworthy are 2010′s Goblin and the animated short Blinky™. Now let’s get out there and shop till our guts explode and hang out our trouser legs! Good day to you all! I am writing this from my palatial office, high atop the exact Centre of the Earth! It’s windy up here! I hope I never see another flying silo! But enough… Enough stories about Global Warming and how we’ll see, within the next few generations, whether the coastal cities really do flood. And more! But don’t be afeard… I hereby propose that holes be bored in the bottom of the ocean. Gigantic holes and they must go many miles deep! Deep, I tell you! Then shall the Centre of the Earth be eternally doused! Let the World Powers elect myself, Cecil Yale Dufferin, to head up this project, which will also make a lot of jobs. And let me say this: I do this work, not for myself… but for everyone.

Movies this week include Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Michael Bay directs from the heart with this big, bad teddy-bear of a movie. You’ll sniffle when the red one… dies. You’ll weep when some other colour is… I don’t know… At least the robots are more lifelike than Josh Duhamel.

Well, it may not be true, but that’s the sort of wildcat reportage you will get when you listen to this — or any — episode of The Horror Movie Show, starring your very best friends in the entire world, Jerry & Mark. What these two don’t know about horror movies would… uh… fill several million volumes. But they are both fairly hygienic and neither is unkind to small animals (except Mark). The geniuses who put together The Horror Movie Show (lovingly provided courtesy of hmpod.com) do a lot of talking in this episode about the original — and arguably the best — of The Terminator movies, then go through the sequels one by one, ending with a loving lot of blether about the long-expired TV series. However, your hosts Jerry & Mark should have paid attention to The Terminator extras on the DVD. On that disc, writer & director James Cameron talks about how he came up with the idea of the Terminator killer-robot while stuck in a European hotel room with a sweaty fever. Not as interesting as what Mark & Jerry have to say, but those two are just making this all up. I strongly suspect they know nothing! Nothing!!!

As every listener of The Horror Movie Show (hosted by Mark & Jerry) knows, sequels are most often a blatant money-grab, an obvious ploy by a producer without a fresh idea in his or her pointy head. However, now and then a sequel is as good — or even better — than the original. Quarantine 2: Terminal is such a sequel. The boys also discuss The Task and Dead.Tone. Oh well, at least there’s one really good movie this episode….

It took several long minutes, but the podcast on the table eventually sat upright, looked its makers in their various eyes and said: “Eeek! Look out behind you! Horrible, horrible space aliens!” in a high, squeaky voice. Jerry & Mark tell all. Shh. Listen….

Some college students need to get their grades up so they attempt to get extra credit by investigating a legend that involves a mental hospital and the crazed inmates that supposedly kill on a whim.

The series is a continuation with a storyline of Siamese twins, one being seemingly normal and the other being a vicious killer that has a small blob of a body. The pair named Duane and Belial are constantly on the run and hiding while committing heinus acts on unsuspecting victims.

The second horror movie analyzed is Night Of The Demons which is a remake that just came out on BluRay yesterday. Some well known actors are in this one including Shannon Elizabeth, Edward Furlong and Bobbi Sue Luther. 85 years after a botched seance, many teenage party-goers get trapped inside a spooky house on Halloween where demons are on the loose in search of souls.

An extremely protective mother wants her daughter to get married and will stop at nothing to prove this. After poisoning events and while the cops are looking for a serial killer, ghosts come back to haunt the mother.

The show begins with an in-depth review of Case 39 that is currently playing at theaters everywhere across the U.S. A few stars grace the big screen including Renee Zellweger, Bradley Cooper and an up-and-coming phenomenal little actress Jodelle Ferland. A bogged down social worker becomes fixated on one of her abusive cases involving a 10 year old girl, but soon thereafter mysterious deaths start piling up revolving around a seemingly innocent child.

The second movie discussed is a movie fresh off the shelves called Suck. Many rockers appear in this film including Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, Moby and Alex Lifeson. The brains behind this movie is Rob Stefaniuk who carried the load as director, writer, actor and even the music score. A deadbeat band turns popular when the bass guitarist gets turned into a vampire by one of the leaders named Queeny.

The next horror movie discussed is one of the Fangoria FrightFest films called Road Kill. Two young couples are camping in the Austrailian outback when they come across a huge truck which apparently has a supernatural presence.

During the opening of the podcast and after the reviews, the hosts critique each others recommendations from previous episodes.

The show begins with a review of the fourth installment of Resident Evil, coined as Afterlife. This movie is currently playing in 3D at theaters everywhere. Milla Jovovich returns as Alice once more, in this horror movie adapted from the popular video game from CapCom. Only a few survivors are left and the group try to take down the corrupt Umbrella Corporation while dealing with gruesome zombies and searching for the safe zone known as Arcadia.

Next the hosts analyze a newly released BluRay called Feast, which was a 2005 HBO Project Greenlight film. “They’re hungry, you’re dinner” is the tagline and it is about a bunch of people get stranded inside a small town bar where there are monsters on the loose which want to eat them.

DoctorHorror chose Dracula 2000 which stars a young Gerard Butler and Christopher Plummer playing Van Helsing. The HorrorGuy was next picking Reindeer Games, a horror-action flick starring Ben Affleck, Charlize Theron, Gary Sinise and a band of other great actors. The HorrorGal’s pick rounds out the show with What Lies Beneath. Yes you guessed it, the Gal selected a ghost movie.

The second movie analyzed is a new BluRay release of a popular 2006 film, Hatchet. A few stars grace the screen like Joel Moore and Tamara Feldman, plus some cameos of the most famous iconic horror actors in history including Kane Hodder, Tony Todd and Robert Englund. A haunted swamp-boat tour turns deadly when the thought to be deceased deformed human pulls out his hatchet and goes on a blood-drenched killing spree.

The Thriller Chiller Picks Of The Week segment is back for good in this episode. The team picks 2 must see horror movies that fans will love. The HorrorGal also rates Blood Creek, which was one of the HorrorGuy’s recommendations several months back.

The first movie analyzed is the highly anticipated 3D film Piranha, which is currently playing at theaters everywhere. Several stars are in this one including Elisabeth Shue, Ving Rhames, Jerry O’Connell and many others. A prehistoric species of Piranha are unleashed after an earthquake at Lake Victoria. It just so happens it is spring break and the students fall prey to the deadly fish.

The second movie discussed is a British film called Tormented that was just released on DVD yesterday. After the suicide of a bullied teenager, all of his classmates fall victim to someone or something in this supernatural, slasheresque tale.

The first movie rated and reviewed is the 2009 Oscar Wilde tale Dorian Gray which was just released on BluRay yesterday. Stars include Ben Barnes and Colin Firth. A kind, young man moves back to London where he gets a portrait painted of him, whereby he makes a pact with the devil to remain ageless, but this in turn makes him become a sexual deviant and a despicable man.

The second movie analyzed was a guest host pick called Dead Silence. When a ventriloquist puppet shows up on the doorstep of a couple, all hell breaks loose as the legend of Mary Shaw comes to life and starts offing everyone associated with this so-called myth. A few stars give a stellar performance including Ryan Kwanten, Donnie Wahlberg and Michael Fairman.

The show begins with a complete analysis and rating of the French movie The Horde (La Horde) that is available on VOD through TF1 Vision for a little more than $6 bucks. A group of vigilante cops try to take down a mob of criminals in a broken down apartment complex. Once there, everyone is confronted with an epidemic and doomsday scenario of ravage zombies.

The second movie reviewed is a guest host pick from 1999 called Ravenous. This film features several stars including Robert Carlyle, Guy Pearce and Jeffrey Jones. Set back in the mid 1800′s, a battalion of misfit military personel help out a stranded man in the isolated snow-covered mountains of the west. What they didn’t realize is that this man is a cannibal and will stop at nothing to satisfy his craving of human flesh.

We start the show off this week with a review of After.Life starring Christina Ricca, Justin Long and Liam Neesom who plays a funeral director with the power to see dead people. After a tragic car accident a miserable woman ends up on her death bed not knowing if she really bit the bullet or not.

Our second movie rated and reviewed is Forbidden World also known as Mutant, a Roger Corman flick. This 1982 film was just released on a remastered set including a BluRay and DVD disc with special features. A space traveler and his robot head off to an unknown planet where their is a mutant species loose.

The 3 creepy films discussed are The Innocents starring Deborah Kerr. This movie is actually a lot of peoples favorite ghost movie of all-time. Next is Let’s Scare Jessica To Death, a haunting tale about a mental woman who is not sure if she is going crazy again. We round it off with Don’t Go To Sleep, a 1982 made for TV film starring Dennis Weaver, Valerie Harper and Ruth Gordon.

The second movie rated and reviewed is the 2007 flick Planet Terror which was picked by the guest host. An ensemble of stars grace the screen including the chick from Charmed, Rose McGowan, plus several others like Freddy Rodriguez, Josh Brolin, Bruce Willis, Jeff Fahey, Michael Biehn and several others. A chemical bio-weapon gets released into the air of a small Texas town turning the locals into ravaging, zombie-like creatures. It is up to a group of uninfected people to thwart off the virus and save the town.

The second review this week is for Beyond The Darkness, an Italian film that has an alternative title of Buio Omega. This was released yesterday on DVD and BluRay as a double-disc set. Directed by the famous Joe D’Amato this movie is about a 22 year old guy who lost his fiance and turns into a cannibalistic serial killer with the help of the house maid.

Wacky antics ensue with 8 prom queen nominees when a lonely teenager and her two friends abduct the high school principal.

The second review is for Finale which was just released yesterday on DVD. A woman investigates her son’s death after his apparent suicide. She uncovers murder, satanic rituals and supernatural beings which plagues her with undying turmoil.

After serving a stint in a psycho ward, a teenage boy must cope with the hauntings of his brother that vanished several years ago. Thirdly is Eight Legged Freaks a monster spiders farce with David Arquette and a very young Scarlett Johansson. The critics finalize it off with the one you should buy of the three arthropod flicks.

The second movie rated and reviewed is The Fear Chamber which stars Richard Tyson, Rhett Giles and Steven Williams. An alcoholic detective must stop a whacked out surgeon who is kidnapping and cutting up innocent women victims.
