Last week, my friend Jason and I spent time in a studio taking photos and attempting to experiment with video. Unfortunately the acoustics were terrible so audio was impossible to record. Instead we took tons of photos and little snippets of video. FUN! Jason made this cute cinemagraph showing you what most people in my life see all the time... a camera in front of my face.

Amy's jewelry looked so effortless with our "Picnic at Hanging Rock" dresses. Eventually we moved out of the lacy frocks into some shimmery summer goodness. I loved mixing metallics and admittedly, I fell in love with all the jewelry we wore that day. I didn't even want to take a single ring off my finger!

Tintype photos are so very charming and full of magic. The texture and detail are incredible, especially considering the painstakingly tedious process of developing these pictures. Kudos to the uber talented Victoria Will for taking the time to create these images. I highly recommend checking out the entire slideshow featured on Esquire, including a stoic and haunting picture of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.

My neighbor/bff Caitlin is a truly great person. i'm humbled by her goodness and often have "what would Caitlin do" moments in stressful situations, and this usually diffuses my temper. she's a kind and giving soul with a soft spot for animals, and last year started caring for two twin feral kittens who lived in a vacant field near our neighborhood. they started out completely wild, skinny, terrified of humans, and very, very feisty. After a few months of love and nurturing, these wild things softened up and became more brave around people. Now they live with Caitlin and they're basically obsessed with her. They follow her everywhere. Meowing. Pouncing. Doing cat things. She can't even come over for a cup of tea without one of them staring at her through the window like a crazed stalker. Geez, cats. Calm down, would you? Anyway, I love a good rescue story and wanted to introduce these two misfits, Boris and Sasha. Besides, what's more adorable than matching cats?

Last week Sadie Rose (of SadieDeluxe) came over to model clothes for my upcoming etsy shop (!!!) and we ended up in the vineyard as the sun was setting. Let me tell you, the girl knows how to work it! It's incredibly easy taking gorgeous photos of her, minimal editing required for this doll face. What a dream. If you're looking for a model, I'm just saying... call Sadie.

Recently I teamed up with Sadie Rose of SadieDeluxe, Shannon Iris Photography and Erin Lizardo to create a winter picnic themed photo shoot. Sadie did an incredible job styling the shoot with perfectly selected props and wardrobe choices from her Etsy shop. Shannon Iris, being a photographer and a professional hair stylist, not only shot amazing photos but whipped our hair into shape in seconds flat. Erin helped with styling and gave us her fresh perspective, not to mention that gorgeous face of hers. These ladies were so fun to work with and the day was chock full of giggles and stealing bites of props. I truly enjoy shooting beautiful subjects. My cousin/soul sister Monique let me snap a few photos of her last time she was in town and I love the way they turned out. The light was perfect and the vineyard was looking oh so colorful, giving us the perfect backdrop. Remember this face, people! She's gonna be a big star someday soon!

haunting shipwrecks

Few things send chills down my spine quite like the site of a large boat sinking or on its side in the water. Remember that Italian cruise ship that capsized last year? I can't even look at those images because they fill me with terror! These images from the Guardian are even creepier; perhaps it's the ominous feel of black and white. Am I alone in this or do these freak you out, too?

The last stop on my road trip. Long Beach. My friends just moved into the most perfect (and enormous) house across from the beach. Every day was full of sandy adventures with their kids and every night I was lulled to sleep by the sound of waves hitting the shore. Heaven. Also worthy of mentioning: lots of walks, farmer's market, cats on cats on cats, cocktails in the sun, late night whiskey in a gay bar, and much needed catch up time with some of my favorite people.

We asked Mr. Lifeguard here to pose for us, for the quintessential California image. He declined because he couldn't look away from the water. Geez. Some people and their desire to help others. So annoying. Jenneykins gave her own lifeguard pose and all was right in the world...

and because I couldn't decide which cartwheel picture I liked best, I made my first ever gif. Fingers crossed for it actually working!

A few photos from my time in South Africa so far. I have one more week here and the mere thought of leaving is bittersweet. Every traveller gets homesick and I'm no different. But this place has a certain magic that's certainly hard to deny. I might just move here and buy a farm. You never know.

These are from a casual wedding reception back in May.

Lots of friends, tasty homemade booze (moonshine?) and a

ton of kids running around by the lake.

This little snoozer above wouldn't let go of that balloon

and there it stayed until he woke up... although it had

deflated at that point, much to his dismay.

Below are my good friend's children, Dyllan and Raoisle

playing with balloons and being their adorable selves.

They're truly great kids and always oblige with an extra

dose of charm when I shove a camera in their face.
