Our last summer morning of us running at the same time in the mornings–> Brooke with her friends, and me with mine. 8 miles @ 8:27 average.

It was a girls’ afternoon, so we chose Zao’s for lunch because Andrew does not like this place, and we love it.

Then we had back-to-school night for all of the kids. My soul aches.

Now for probably too many tangents.

*I tried out these shorts (on sale!), and they are officially the best Athleta shorts EVER. The waistband is so comfy, the fabric is so light/airy, and there are plenty of pockets.

*I am POSITIVE this was Brooke’s bike yesterday, and now he is riding it.

*If I didn’t know any better, I would think Brooke and Curly were actual sisters.

*I had to show you the shoes Skye chose because they are so dang cute.

*Ummmmm if I ever do ultras again, I will buy this ice bandana. Brilliant.

*With school starting this week, I’m excited to lock in again with my running. I really thought I would keep up with at least one speed workout a week during the summer. I did not. But with the kids going back to school and a less hectic schedule, my two biggest goals are to get in a bit more training/strength training and eat at the dinner table again most nights.

*I have recently gotten taller. For as long as I’ve known, I have been 5’8.75″. UNTIL now. I am now 5’9.25″. That is half an inch of growth since the last time I was measured at a doctor’s office. I have been measured by multiple people now to confirm this growth… I HAVE GROWN AS AN ADULT. And the craziest part, my sister has, too. She has grown .75 inches! How crazy is this?? I wonder how long we will keep growing?

*They LOVE soccer together.

*This is the tint set that my niece uses on our eyebrows. She uses this brush to apply the tint on my eyebrows, too.

*Those of you on the sidelines often right now, please bring a NeeDoh with you to squish during games. This orange blob helps me to stay sane.

*When my niece (Curly, but her real name starts with an A) got back from Argentina, she saw my necklace and thought it stood for her name and mine. I should have let her keep believing that was the case.

*Have you ever tried Liquid Death? This one was AMAZING.

I woke up very early on Saturday morning without an alarm clock because I was anxious about the day going perfectly, so I went out for a 5-mile run and then did a full-body strength workout on the CGX app before anyone was awake. (I love this bra)

Please don’t judge the amount of sugar we consumed while celebrating the birth of Brooke. I just need you to know that Utahns require sugar at any and all get-togetherS, especially birthdays.

She started with a soccer game (and they won!), followed by donuts with her team.

Brooke and Jess’ daughter are on the same team now, which means anything we forget to discuss on the run can now be discussed on the sidelines.

And then Skye had her soccer game, thankfully at the same park. It was the championship game, and they all played so hard, but after overtime and pks, they lost by one.

Brooke’s favorite restaurant is currently Chipotle, so we went straight there afterward.

A free birthday Dutch Bros iced chai is always a tradition.

And then we went to Soel Boutique to make some jewelry. They have bracelets/necklaces there, along with every charm or bead your heart desires, plus the tools for you to connect them all together. Brooke and Skye both made a necklace.

They also have Swedish candy there, so a bit of that had to come home with us.

That evening we had all of her friends over for night games and an ice cream cake. We finished up her birthday after all of her friends left by snuggling on the couch and watching The Office until much too late.

On Sunday, we had all the family come over to celebrate Brooke! Six bbq chicken pizzas coming up…

My niece made our favorite chocolate cake for dessert.

I need summer nights to never end.

Our day was jam-packed with games, so I decided to just get my run in by running to the first one. 10 miles at a 7:39 pace, and then straight to my chair.

I love the way they make her feel post-game.

And then we finished things off with Knox’s football scrimmage… It ended a little early due to a crazy storm.

It’s Brooke’s birthday tomorrow, and I cannot believe it. She came into my life a few weeks early, when I needed her most. Happiest Birthday, Brookie. You are everything I ever dreamed of having in a daughter and MORE. From my blog 14 years ago… Instant best friends.

I have a few favorites this week:

*I have never been a cheese ball gal, but these ones at Costco right now are DELICIOUS.

*I was sent the Power Forme Bra with no obligation to post about it, but I would like to write a love letter to it. It is expensive, but it does deliver on what it is made for if you want help with your posture (me me me). It’s a simple way to support better posture throughout the day. The gentle tension across your shoulders and upper back gives your body a little reminder to engage and pull your shoulders back. I absolutely have better posture when I am wearing it… I’ve worn it for some runs, when my posture is at its worst, but I want to try it out throughout the day now to see how it does over a longer period. Jenisy just got back from Japan and brought these Hi-Chews back for us. I have never tasted any better fruity candy in my life than these grape Premium ones. 8 miles for our day!

And just like that, another soccer tournament has begun for both girls!

He’s a very good spectator with me.

Now for some good old-fashioned tangents:

*We did the back-to-school schedule thing.

*Jenisy had the cutest Free People shorts on yesterday, and I had to share them with you ($30, and they have the liner, too)!

*It’s never too summer for chicken tortilla soup. We found our new favorite version we have ever tried–> here.

*Curly (my niece) just got back from a trip to Argentina. She was gone for what felt like forever, and my girls wouldn’t let go of her when they saw her.

*She brought us home so much chocolate, and I’ve determined this to be the best Milka bar out there:

*I LOVE LOVE LOVE bringing a Polaroid camera on trips.

*The other item from Ballerina Farms that I can’t live without (soft-serve #1), is their sourdough cookies. I have never had a better chocolate-chip cookie, and they made me realize I actually prefer semi-sweet to milk-chocolate in my cookies! I’ve changed so much; 25-year-old me would never believe this new opinion of mine.

*These two went and saw their favorite band together last weekend, Dirty Heads. They were both living their best lives.

I’m not much of a camper. I didn’t grow up camping, and, as you know, I value sleep a little too much, which means camping is usually not at the top of my list. Camping is my kid’s favorite thing in the world. They would choose it over any type of vacation, and so we went for it. We had 48 hours between my family and my sister’s family when everybody was free. So, we packed up the cars and headed up to the Uinta Mountains (we were by Upper Provo Falls). We lucked out being there Sunday and Monday nights because we were pretty much the only people there, but we heard that the weekends are PACKED.

Here I am today to tell you that a non-camper loved 47 of those 48 hours (the last hour I was just really needing a shower) of camping. So, let me share how to love a camping trip.

*This woman right here. She got me up there by offering to be in charge of all of the meals. And I know, when she cooks, it is going to be gourmet. Every bite was perfection.

Having a personal chef made camping feel very fancy. Who gets to eat like this while camping?!? Homemade Tikka Masala:

Let me know if you want to book her for your next camping trip. She also fed both families (we eat a lot) for just $120! She needs to start a blog.

She made these breakfast burritos before we left, froze them, and then warmed them up on the Blackstone.

*Ensure there are alpine lakes everywhere around you. We were just out on a walk and came across this gorgeous one, and there was no keeping them out of it (in the very shallow part).

Skye didn’t think twice about not having a swimsuit on…

*Go somewhere that has miles and miles of places to run with unreal views. The first morning I ran 3.5 miles with my niece, nephew, and sis, and the second morning I went for 4 miles with Andrew. I couldn’t have gone a step over 4 there, though… we were at 10,000k ft, and breathing was a challenge.

*Go with people that will play truth and dare with you… My niece had her first ever sip of soda! I doubt there will be a second;)

*Pack more ice and cold drinks than you would ever think you would need. If we didn’t have ice and caffeine, I don’t think I would have made it past 3 hours. PS This definitely wasn’t Curly’s first ddp.

*Bring a little guy that plays with your hair as he is falling asleep, skips from point A to point B of anywhere he is going, and tells you thank you every hour for taking him camping.

*Go with people who are always up to explore.

*Soak in all of the creativity that your kids have.

*Go somewhere with zero cell reception. IT WAS GLORIOUS TO UNPLUG.

*Frolick through the meadows as my niece did.

*Bring hammocks. Also, I had an air mattress, my eye mask, a sound machine, and a sleeping aid;). If I don’t sleep well, I cannot enjoy camping.

*Bring glow sticks for the kids at night. They thought it was cool, and I loved being able to see them at all times.

*Clean your house and do every piece of laundry that you have before you leave so that when you come home, the 8 loads of camping laundry you have to do won’t overwhelm you.

On Friday, I ran nine trail miles. It was one of those days when I wondered how in the world I used to do longer trail runs!? I was toast by the end. Once school starts, I’m determined to get my trail endurance back. I’m sure the gorgeous fall leaves will help me with this goal.

And then it was time to prepare for a big event.

Brooke’s 14th birthday party! When I turned 14, I remember my mom taking me to the Little America in Salt Lake City with a few of my best friends. It was one of my favorite days ever, and so I decided to do the same with Brooke. She invited a few of her best friends, and we headed up to Midway, Utah, to stay at the Homestead.

While we were there, I decided that this is my new hobby…

I want to try out a new hotel/resort each month;) I LOVE everything about checking out new-to-me resorts and kicking back for 24 hours. Now to convince Andrew to support me with this new hobby.

I know Skye will support it;). She was living large there.

Eating poolside is one of life’s greatest joys.

The girls were up until 2 am, so they were sleeping in on Saturday morning, and I got out for eight miles around Midway.

They call Midway Little Switzerland because of its setting in the mountains and because of the original Swiss settlers in the 1850s. The homes and buildings all over town make you feel like you are in Switzerland, which makes everywhere you look on the run so fun.

The girls all woke up, and then we grabbed some breakfast at the little restaurant on the property.

And then we checked out. I must check out in person. Even though they say you don’t need to check out in person, I still must go to the main office with the keys. I can’t fight the urge to check out face-to-face. PS If you are ever visiting Utah, you must stay at the Homestead in Midway. I’m bringing the rest of the family back asap. It was dreamy!

We then went to the Midway Farmers Market, and they had therapy dogs there for people. It took me back to when Brooke was in the hospital, and her heart rate actually lowered when the therapy dogs were in her hospital bed with her.

And then we went back for our second time this trip to Ballerina Farms for their protein soft-serve. It is our favorite!

And a special shout-out to Brooke and her friends who made Skye feel like the most important part of their girl gang. My heart was full.

10 miles @ 8:04 average in our favorite canyon. We met Nico at the water fountain, and she was just the sweetest thing around. Mornings in this canyon offer the best social hour.

Beretta needed to go to the vet to get her ears looked at, and Skye wouldn’t leave her side. Skye was very concerned about her, but she got the antibiotics she needed for an ear infection.

Football scrimmage for Knox and a soccer scrimmage for Skye. Those acai bowl food trucks get us each and every time.

It feels good to be back in the bleachers again.

Now for the favorites of the week:

*Beck came into our room at 2 am and said, “Hey, Mom, can I talk to you about something? Skye used to sneak marshmallows.” It must have really been weighing on him, and I’m glad he came in at 2 am to confide in me about this;)

*I found this beautiful book at my sister’s house on her coffee table. It goes through each country with photographs and the best travel tips/times to go/things you must see. It had me dreaming of so many new spots that I had never thought about visiting until I saw them in this book.

*My sister found these at Costco and shared them with me… they are SO good if you love pickled onions.

*I had heard about this tank with the built-in bra from Abercrombie many times but didn’t want to buy it without trying it on. I ended up loving it so much when I tried it on that I had Andrew take it to the register and buy it, then bring it to me so I could wear it out of the store. LOVE. I want it in every color. Also, the Free People barrel pants are magic in this picture if you were wondering about them.

*I tried this set on at Gap when we were school clothes shopping the other day and fell in love. Before buying them there, I checked online, and they were only 50% off online–> TOP (large for me) and BOTTOM (small for me). I went with the cream (all of the colors are so good). It is the perfect comfy set as we transition from summer to fall.

*My beloved Nutrafol! I can honestly say my hair is thicker and my shower drain is free from my hair since I started with my Nutrafol.
