To say I love crème brûlée would be a slight understatement. If you put one in front of me, it’ll be a crème melee, and I’d be the clear winner. I’d stab the caramelized sugar multiple times to hear that wonderful cracking sound. Then I’d scrape up every gram of custard until there was no more. And then I’d paint my face with the blood of…oh wait. What was I talking about again?

While I love the dessert, the problem is that to eat one, I usually have to go to a fancy restaurant with cloth napkins and a collared shirt dress code.

But now I can enjoy the flavors of crème brûlée at a Baskin-Robbins, with paper napkins and just a simple no-shirt-no-shoes-no-service policy, thanks to the new Biscoff Crème Brûlée Ice Cream. This Flavor of the Month features French custard-flavored ice cream, Biscoff cookie pieces, and caramelized sugar-flavored swirls.

It’s been more than a decade since Baskin-Robbins rolled out a scoop that replicates the flavors of a crème brûlée, and this new Biscoff Crème Brûlée Ice Cream is the first scoop that includes the famous Biscoff cookie. Yes, BR Buffs, there was a speculoos cookie butter flavor before, but it didn’t use THE Biscoff cookie.

While the Biscoff seemed to be the headliner, what caught my tongue’s attention was the caramelized sugar swirls. I didn’t get to stab a layer of blowtorched sugar with a crazed look on my face, but I did enjoy the gritty, sugary texture of the swirls, which were EVERYWHERE. It was like someone already did the stabbing for me and mixed the aftermath into the ice cream. At first, the base’s flavor with the swirls reminded me of a buttery, sweet waffle cone, but with every spoonful after, the custard and burnt-sugar flavor became more noticeable, and it was delicious.

Maybe because I love crème brûlée too much, the Biscoff cookie pieces felt a bit distracting. Whenever I hit a chunk, which was roughly every three spoonfuls, it did transmit that spiced cookie flavor, but its strong taste negated the rest of the scoop. The cookie pieces also brought the experience down a notch because they were a bit soft. Part of the appeal of Biscoff cookies is their crunch, and the lack of it was almost as annoying as remembering to type all the accent marks in “crème brûlée” throughout this review. But I guess the gritty texture of the swirls is similar to speculoos cookie butter.

Being a crème brûlée crazay, I had to get a double scoop of this, and I enjoyed every gram of it. But I wish there was a better balance between the Biscoff and brûlée, and that the cookies had maintained more of their crunch.

Mint desserts are a polarizing concept. Some people consider them to be the perfect blend of freshness and sweetness. Others see them as lumps of toothpaste masquerading as food.

I have always been firmly in the former camp, but Mint Crunchy Cookie M&M’s have helped me understand the opposite perspective.

Clad in green and brown shells, Mint Crunchy Cookie M&M’s consist of mint-flavored milk chocolate and a crunchy cookie center. The center is similar to what you’d find in a Crispy M&M, adding a light crunch similar to a rice crispy treat. It is the shade of a sugar cookie, but it does not add noticeable flavor.

The predominant mint flavor is strong and refreshing, leaving a cooling sensation in the mouth. If you eat a lot of garlic, these M&M’s may save your social life. I love that they deliver a strong mint flavor, but I question the quality and consistency of the flavor. Some pieces are simply powerfully minty, and others taste of sharp, artificial spearmint. The flavor shifts between cool, sweet Peppermint Patty filling and Wrigley’s Doublemint chewing gum. The mint flavor builds the more you eat, so I liked them best a few at a time.

A mint-loving friend adored these, and I have to concede that eating these M&M’s is in no way like downing mouthwash. But when I sat down to write this review, I couldn’t remember if they used milk or dark chocolate. That’s my main qualm: the powerful mint flavor made me forget that I was eating chocolate at all.

To make them more snackable, I’d suggest some tweaks. First, these M&M’s are on the tiny side. Maybe a standard-sized M&M would have required more chocolate—perhaps dark chocolate—to balance the flavors more successfully. I also would have preferred a chocolate crunchy cookie center to encourage a Thin Mint vibe.

If these possibilities had been realized, M&M’s might have simply duplicated Crunchy Mint M&M’s, winner of the Flavor Vote contest in 2018. Then, would I be opining about M&M’s lack of originality? Maybe this is why we can’t have nice things.

While I found Mint Crunchy Cookie M&M’s too sharp to be addictive, you should give them a try if you’ve always wanted Andes mints to have a kick and a crunch. If you are on the fence about mint chocolate, this Walmart exclusive M&M may help you pick a side.

Doritos flavor mashups are nothing new.

The “Collisions” line — currently on hiatus and/or part of the Frito-Lay graveyard, who really knows — gave us Hot Wings/Blue Cheese, Zesty Taco/Chipotle Ranch, Habanero/Guacamole, Cheesy Enchilada/Sour Cream, Pizza Cravers/Ranch (later rebranded as Stranger Pizza and Cool Ranch as a Stranger Things tie-in), Blaze/Ultimate Cheddar, and last summer’s, Sizzlin’ Cheeseburger/Sweet and Tangy BBQ. In most of these (though not all), you may have noticed that they usually involve one preexisting flavor and one new flavor.

Is there a reason for this? Maybe. Do I know the reason? I do not. I imagine it has something to do with underperforming flavors and/or a conspiracy involving a race of underground reptile people, but I can’t prove anything, so we’ll move on.

What I do know is that its newest attempt at sticking two flavors into a single bag is no different— Late Night Taco has been catting around for a couple of years now, but Chimichurri Lime is new. They are joined in matrimony as part of the Head2Head…line? initiative? which is sponsored by Formula 1. And in case you missed all the words explaining as much, there’s even a picture of a race car at the bottom of the bag. Handy!

I’ll be honest— I didn’t have high expectations as I selected these from the shelf. You see, while I am an ardent supporter of Taco Doritos in all their iterations, I can’t say the same with lime-flavored things. Okay, well, except for Key Lime Pie. Or lime Mambas. And Sprite. Basically, I’m cool with sugary lime things, but I draw the line when it comes to lime as an inclusion with savory food.

Boy howdy, was I wrong. The lime on these bad boys is mild, and perfectly complements the salty, peppery, beefiness of the chip. That’s right— beefiness. There’s an undeniable smoky steak flavor on the Chimichurri Lime chips that mingles well with the taco zest from the Late Night Taco chips. The combination was a winning one, reminiscent of a combo plate from a Tex-Mex restaurant, only, you know, much cheaper and less filling.

I found it hard to stop eating these, and I will be sad to see them leave. If Frito Lay would like to bring Chimichurri Lime to shelves as a standalone, though, that would more than make up for it. You hear that, Frito-Lay?

Razz Up! is the latest Ben & Jerry’s limited batch encouraging folks to stand up, embrace their right to vote, and enjoy a tasty, textured scoop. Razz Up! is a black raspberry ice cream with raspberry swirls and crackling fudge chunks.

The black raspberry ice cream has a light but present, pleasant tart raspberry flavor that fades and evolves into a smooth, sweet cream. The velvety texture stands out as exceptionally creamy, with no iciness, which really lets the dairy’s quality shine. I can’t remember the last time I tasted a Ben & Jerry’s pint this “clean” – without a ton of bells and whistles, like the Sundaes line. I am reminded of the simple effectiveness of a profile that doesn’t have a whole lot to prove, and does it well.

The raspberry flavor is boosted greatly by the presence of the sweet, jammy swirls that pop up throughout the pint. Without the swirls, I would have wanted more berry flavor, but since there are an ample number of them, they complement the base in perfect harmony, producing a sweet, true raspberry flavor that isn’t utilized enough in commercial ice cream.

Crackling fudge chunks are an all-new addition to the Ben & Jerry’s arsenal of innovative mix-ins, and these do exactly what they sound like they would: they are fudge, and do crackle. The chunks are a bit softer than the usual fudge from B&J, leaning a bit more in the ganache direction without going all the way smooth. The flavor is your typical bittersweet chocolate that finishes with some fun Pop Rocks-style crackling that adds a touch of whimsy to this mostly mature flavor profile.

Razz Up! is a basic ice cream executed really well. I don’t personally need the crackle in the chunks for it to be enjoyable, but they do add a touch of fun and fireworks-adjacent pizazz to the eating of this pint full of the razz.

It cannot be easy for the Blizzardologists at Dairy Queen to come up with novel flavor combinations, especially considering there have often been multiple new Blizzards in a month over the past couple of decades.

For September, there is just one newcomer, and it appears to feature an ingredient that has rarely, if ever, been used at DQ. The Brown Sugar Cookie Dough Blizzard packs a double dose of BS (brown sugar), as it has brown sugar cookie dough pieces and brown sugar topping mixed with vanilla soft serve.

This certainly is not the most colorful Blizzard, but it does present what looks like a brown sugar-speckled mountain range that is pretty enticing. As for the taste, it’s perfectly sweet without going overboard, and the brown sugar topping adds a great, almost caramel-like flavor. The cookie pieces seemed a bit firmer than some other DQ cookie dough variations, and they had a bit of a granular texture that evoked both brown sugar and sugar cookie.

There’s nothing negative I can say about this one, except that when I got a spoonful without any cookie dough, it was a bit of a letdown. It’s basically just brown sugar/caramel-flavored ice cream. Don’t get me wrong, even that part was good; it’s just not something that will amaze your taste buds. When I did get a cookie piece, however, that made my mouth extra happy.

Would I run to Dairy Queen to try this new Blizzard? Of course not; I might pull a hamstring or something. But I would get in my car, or, to truly protect my hammies, I might fully embrace my laziness and have DoorDash get one for me. This Blizzard does not quite make my top tier of favorites, but it’s definitely a tasty treat and a nice change of pace.

What’s not to love about lava cakes? Usually single-serve, portion-sized, molten in the middle, and usually chocolate. So when Domino’s rolled out its new S’mores Lava Cakes, I was intrigued.

They are graham cracker cakes with a marshmallow-flavored filling, and the pizza chain describes it as inspired by the classic s’mores flavor, minus the camping.

Okay, sure, Domino’s, I’ll bite.

First things first, the app only let me order a flight, and a flight to me means at least three flavors. But since Domino’s only had two available (S’mores and the OG chocolate), I had to double up. This is a review of the S’mores Lava Cakes, though, so the extra gave me some runway I ended up needing, as you’ll read.

When I picked up my carryout order, the smell of baked butter and sugar had me hyped. This felt very promising.

Then it went downhill fast. Because it smelled so good, I popped open the cardboard container in my car to take a peek. I’m not going to mince words: it is not a good look how oily these things are. They bake the lava cakes in foil cups, and I genuinely wish they’d just left them on – then put them in the box. Oiliness aside, the cakes themselves looked fine.

But, cue the heavy sigh when I cut into it: no lava. As you’d expect, it meant a pretty dry eating experience too.

To be fair, it was about a 10-minute drive from pickup to my house, so I tried to make it lava with the microwave. It sort of worked, in the same way microwaving a Hot Pocket “works.” Scalding interior, still-cold exterior, and yes, I burned my mouth. The Chocolate Lava Cake, for reference, was way more lava-y right out of the box.

Flavor-wise, it mostly tasted like an underbaked sugar cookie. Not even a hint of graham cracker. The interior lava had a surprising hint of cream cheese, which, fine, I’ll take it. But where’s the marshmallow? Also, it came with mini chocolate chips, which I could visually see, but they didn’t really add that much to the flavor.

It’s nice that Domino’s has another Lava Cake option on the menu, but calling this one “s’mores” is a stretch.
