Happy Mother’s Day! I love May for all the holidays and presents (my birthday is in May among other celebrations).

This is a fresh green set featuring May flowers. One of my favorite perfume has strong note of Lily of the Valley. This is why I included a drawing of perfume bottle and a scented candle. I also love my flat shoes in May when I kick away all winter boots.

I will be showing the Design Garden Class students how I made this set. So much fun!

I know, the Flower Monograms have been featured many times on the blog. However, people keep using them in innovative ways that surprise and delight me.

Here Jupiter and Juno created a pattern out of the flowers and used them as envelope liners. What a great rustic wedding invitation suite.

The trend of using geometric shapes and patterns in design continues in 2013.

There are ways to apply geometry in noticeable and innovative ways in your designs:

• use organic lines. Hand drawn shapes or irregular organic lines which make the geometric shapes more artistic
• mix different shapes. Mix shapes to create new original designs. Triangles, circles or just irregular shapes. Play with opacity and overlays.
• use contrast

We welcome our new artist Nicole LaRue. Talented illustrator and designer, her style is distinctly hand drawn and she transforms popular clip art themes like birds and baby themes into original art sets.
