Charlottesville's Fridays After Five, 2012, does it again with the best Louisiana bayou music by the Honey Island Swamp Band. For those of you who are not preoccupied with UVA graduation, you will not want to miss this -- and it's free!

HISB came together by chance when Aaron, Chris, Sam and Garland found themselves marooned in San Fran after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans. They put together a song list, got some gigs and the rest is history. They have won too many "Best of" awards to count including, Best Roots Rock Artist of 2011 at the Big Easy Awards, New Orleans premier arts and entertainment awards ceremony.

What's not to love about a group that calls themselves the Honey Island Swamp Band ! Enjoy your Friday night out with the band, then come to stay with us in Sugar Hollow and tell us about it!

Super Moon

If you are staying with us at our Charlottesville Inn this coming weekend you might be in for a special celestial treat! This month's full moon will coincide with the moon's closest approach to the Earth, so the moon should be extra big and bright for us.

With a little luck we will have clear skies over Sugar Hollow for a great view of this so called "Super Moon".

You may visit with Mr. Hatch, Saturday, April 28 at the Open House at the Monticello Center for Historic Plants. He will be on-hand to answer questions and sign your copy of his book. Interesting fact: the cold snap we have been experiencing this Spring is known as a Blackberry Winter. With the mild weather we had been having, the blackberries bloomed early. Farmers know to watch for a cold snap in Spring once the blackberries bloom, as they require some cold weather to set their buds.

A Great Night's Rest

Some details have been changed to protect the innocent but we wanted to share this nice comment left by one of our guests recently. We get a lot of positive response to the comfort of the mattresses on our beds, but we thought this one was especially good:

"Julia and I would like to thank you for the wonderful and relaxing stay at your inn. It was a wonderful way to celebrate our anniversary and we will be back. We meant to ask you what brand and style was the mattress on our bed in the Woodlands room. I have problems with sleeping at night because of pain in my lower back. I had no pain laying on the bed and had the best sleep in months! I returned home to have pain again laying on our bed. So, a new mattress is amust for us."

If you want the same great sleep at home as you have experienced with us, first move to mountains. If that doesn't work, just ask us for the name of our mattress man, we'll be glad to share!

The garden tour is a two hour experience where you will be invited on a guided walk by one of the professional staff and a chance to participate in planting, harvesting and sampling spring crops! Not far from our Charlottesville Bed and Breakfast, Melrose and Johns, with Preservation Virginia, will once again offer the Virginia region an opportunity to enjoy an array of antiques seldom seen outside venues in a select few major East Coast cities. The Antiques in Charlottesville event is taking place in downtown Charlottesville from March 24-25, 2012.

Last year, 42 nationally recognized dealers participated in the Antiques In Charlottesville show and weekend of events including: a Gala Preview Party, Luncheon and Speaker at a private club, the Dealer Walkthru, and two days of Appraisals with three experts from throughout the state.

Wine Dinner Weekend! March 2nd and 3rd

Folks around the Hollow are getting excited about our annual Wine Dinner Weekend March 2nd and 3rd. This year's Wine Dinner Weekend should be the best ever!

We are partnering with four of the local wineries that make up the Appellation Trial. White Hall Vineyards will host the dinner on Saturday night, which will feature wines from White Hall, Glass House, Mountfair and Stinson, all just a stone's throw from The Inn at Sugar Hollow Farm.

We've made up special package rates for all our rooms that include the room, tax, the wine tasting on Friday with representatives from local wineries and the fabulous wine dinner on Saturday at White Hall Vineyards. We still have rooms available, but you'd better hurry!

For those of you staying for the weekend at the inn... here is what we have planned to make this a memorable one!

Friday March 2nd

At 6pm at The Inn at Sugar Hollow Farm, we will have a wine tasting reception hosted by the wineries of the Appellation Trail with an array of heavy hors d’oeuvres prepared by the Inn at Sugar Hollow. There will be at least 3 wine makers here to discuss the various wines being served that evening.

We hope you will enjoy the opportunity to learn more about such things as how the terrain, length of growing season, climate, blending techniques and climate have influenced the creation and quality of the five wines being offered.

The Inn at Sugar Hollow will also provide, as our treat, a hearty soup, homemade bread and dessert so that you may enjoy a light supper following your wine tasting experience.

Saturday March 3rd

A wine tasting tour of the Appellation Trail will be organized with some special events at the various wineries followed by dinner at White Hall Vineyards at 6pm - menu from the White Hall Vineyards website

For those of you starting to getting a little stir crazy this winter, you will be pleased to know we have a new hiking/jogging trail near our Charlottesville Inn. The new forest preserve park in Blackwells Hollow was recently dedicated in the honor of Patricia Ann Byrom.

On the 600 acre preserve you will find over 6 miles of trails for hiking, biking, running and horses bordering the Shenandoah National Park. This is just one of many ways to enjoy the outdoors and beautiful scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains, right from Sugar Hollow.

Put down the guacamole and lace up your running shoes for Cinco de Mayo this year! The Montalto Challenge 5K running race is being held on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Jefferson's Monticello. This all up-hill race from the base of Saunders-Monticello Trail to the top of Montalto above Jefferson's estate is not your everyday 5K, but if you reach the top you will be rewarded with an amazing view Monticello, Charlottesville, and the Blue Ridge Mountains.

If you are staying with us at our Virginia inn, after the race you can return to the your whirlpool bath in your room and give your muscles a much deserved break.

Or you can skip the race and just enjoy the bath, your choice.
