Pocket - Ally Kazmucha

I've tried many read it later services and up until last year, I had always used Instapaper. Then when RIL (Read It Later) transformed into Pocket and got a major overhaul, I couldn't stop myself from trying it. And I haven't looked back sense.

Pocket is absolutely gorgeous. Not only that, it's super fast and supports almost any browser and platform you could think of. Not only is there a native iPhone and iPad app, but a Mac one too. And for those who like to save things directly from their browsers, yep, there's support for those too. Even reading on the Pocket website is enjoyable.

The way content is laid out is unique and one of the best I've found so far. If you haven't tried it out yet, it's free so you've got nothing to lose.

Limelight - Joseph Keller

Limelight is an iPhone app that helps you keep track of movies, not just those in your collection, but also those that you may have just seen in theaters, as well as those you want to see. Create an account and begin searching for movies and mark whether or not you’ve seen them. Movies will then either be added to your Watched or To Watch lists, which can be shared with other Limelight users as well as your friends, through Twitter, Facebook, iMessage, and email. You can also follow the libraries that other users publish, finding new movies that you want to see by doing so. If you see or own a lot of movies, Limelight is a great way to keep track of and share them all. Check it out on the App Store for $1.99.

Impossible Road - Simon Sage

If Super Hexagon has taught me anything, it's that I'm a sucker for punishment. Enter the brutally difficult Impossible Road. There are no power-ups, no in-app purchases, and barely any colors or shapes. All you have to do is keep a ball on a downward-spiraling track for as long as possible using left and right tap controls. If you fall off, you've got a moment to land on the track further down, but if you free-fall for too long, you've got to start all over. Players are scored based on how many checkpoints they pass through or skip by falling off the edge and recovering. The high contrast art style and minimalist music keep tension high for the fleeting seconds you manage to stay on the track. If you have any unresolved childhood issues with Rainbow Road from Mario Kart, or have an innate fear of heights to get over revel in, Impossible Road is a good place to start.

Guitar Tune - Chris Parsons

After being away for a couple of months, I cam home and decided I wanted to play a little guitar. I quickly realized that before I could do that, it would certainly need some tuning. For the life of me, I couldn't find my tuner so figured it would be a perfect time to try out some of the tuner apps available on iOS. I download 3-4 and began testing them out, in the end I went with a free (ad-supported) one called Guitar Tuna and well, I'm never paying for a tuner app again. Guitar Tuna is awesome, idiot proof and free. Can't really beat it. If you're looking for a basic and easy to use guitar tuning app, look no further.

The Doors - Richard Devine

Sadly this week saw the passing of The Doors' keyboard player, Ray Manzarek. So, what better way to commemorate than by kicking back listening to their 'Best of' album and checking out the official The Doors app on the iPad.

Pictures, music, videos, lyrics, all here and only the beginning. The Doors app for iPad is filled with content about the band, how they created their sound, and even an exclusive comic that chronicles Jim Morrison's 'Incident' in Miami. A must have for all The Doors fans out there.

TextExpander for iOS - Rene Ritchie

Just over a month ago, Text Expander Touch was my pick of the week. Why am I picking it again so soon? Because Smile Software just released Text Expander Touch 2.0.

The basic overall functionality hasn't changed, and everything I used before is still what I use now -- I type in shots bits of text and TE spits out long strings of code or copy. Here's the example I used last time, typing this:

Tetris Blitz - Leanna Lofte

I've always been a big Tetris fan, and Tetris Blitz is a new twist to the class game. You have two minutes to clear as many lines as possible, but instead of the traditional gameplay of rotating and dropping each piece, Tetris Blitz gives you options for placement of the pieces. You simply tap the spot you want the piece to go, or cycle through more choices. There are also power-up in Tetris Blitz that help you rack up the points. Tetris Blitz is not traditional Tetris, but I'm enjoying this new, high-paced version.

It's been another busy week here on iMore, and as we get closer and closer to WWDC 2013 we're starting to see more iOS 7 rumors surface. Also making headlines this week was Yahoo!, who had a pretty busy Monday, Microsoft's future of the Xbox event, oh, and we were treated to an all-new iMore Show! Read on for the recap!

We'll start with Yahoo!, who came out swinging this past Monday. Rumors had been rife that they were preparing a bid to acquire blogging platform Tumblr, and those rumors turned into truth on Monday morning. Yahoo! and Tumblr announced the deal was to take place, and would be worth $1.1 billion in cash. Yahoo! CEO, Marissa Meyer, posted her first blog post on Tumblr that very same morning, proclaiming that "we promise we won't screw it up." Nice touch.

Then, at a press event in New York on Monday evening, Meyer herself took to the stage at the Flickr press event and presented a major overhaul to the popular photography service. The headline items were an all-new, and pretty awesome looking interface, along with a new pricing strategy that sees every single user on a free account receive a full terabyte of storage for their photos. An insane amount of free storage for your photos.

Next it was over to Microsoft to impress, with their Xbox event up at the company's Richmond headquarters. Our buddies from Windows Phone Central provided excellent coverage of the event, but while there was no specific mention of iOS related items, it's hard to deny that we were all pretty impressed. With gestures and speech recognition galore, did Microsoft beat Apple to making the killer Apple TV? Both Derek Kessler and Peter Cohan have written excellent pieces on the Xbox One and how it may fit into our world, so be sure to check them out if you missed them first time around.

Unless you've been living under a rock, you'll know that excitement is building as we get ever closer to WWDC 2013. We all have things we'd like to see come out of the annual developer conference, but likewise there's things we're pretty sure we will be seeing. One such thing is iOS 7, and this week a couple of rumors surfaced on what to expect. Firstly we heard that Flickr and Vimeo may well be integrated into iOS 7, much the same as Twitter and Facebook currently are. Then we were treated to the latest rumor around Jony Ive's all-new, flatter UI and that it is set to be "black, white and flat all over." Rumors are still just that, rumors, but it does still build up our anticipation ahead of WWDC.

Apple CEO Tim Cook made the trip cross-country this week to appear at a Senate hearing regarding the company's approach to taxes. Chris Umiastowski posted an excellent editorial on the subject that really got the iMore readers engaged, so if you happened to miss that one be sure to give it a read.

Elsewhere this week, Peter Cohan gave us some excellent tips on how to breathe new life into your ageing Mac Pro, well worth reading if, like many, you're clinging onto your Mac Pro until the bitter end. Leanna continued her round up of photography related apps, this week moving onto a great selection for the professional photographer. And, speaking of photography, I just so happened to come across a piece of vintage Apple in the QuickTake 150 digital camera, so I had to share it with you guys. Black Ops needs little introduction, being part of the global phenomenon that is the Call of Duty franchise. Trip Cubby

As a photographer, you are likely driving all over the place to different shoots, and since all those miles are tax-deductible, a solid mileage tracking app is a must. Trip Cubby is an awesome choice and makes this daunting task a lot less cumbersome and is designed with IRS compliance in mind.

Trip Cubby does not support the iPhone 5's larger screen, and this is normally a huge turn-off for me, but it's truly one of the best options out there.

To successfully run a photography business, you must keep a lot of paper work, including contracts, release forms, invoices, financial records, and of course photos. Many of the previously mentioned apps in this list include Dropbox integration which makes it one of the best cloud solutions out there.

So there you have it! iMore's best apps for professional photographers! Did we miss any other great apps? What apps do you use to compliment your photography business?

It's possible to forget, but Apple used to have their own line of digital cameras. Back in the mid-nineties they launched three cameras under the 'QuickTake' product banner. What we have here is the second of those; say hello to the Apple QuickTake 150.

Launched in 1995, the QuickTake 150 cost new a staggering $700. Granted, this was a time when digital cameras were in the early days, but $700 meant this was not an item for the masses -- much like Apple's computers of the time. So what does an 18 year old camera provide in the way of specs?

The QuickTake 150 has an 8mm fixed focus lens, a flash, and 1MB of flash storage. It's capable of shutter speeds between 1/30 and 1/175 of a second, and produces 24-bit images at 640x480. The on-board storage stores only 8 photographs taken at the full resolution, or 32 taken at 320x240 resolution. Unthinkable today that you would ever take an image so small. The QuickTake 150 also included a separate close up clip on lens as part of the kit.

Battery power comes by way of 3xAA batteries, with support for rechargeable ones with the optional charger that was sold separately.

By modern standards, the QuickTake 150 is a rather unusual shape. It's more akin to a pair of binoculars than a camera, with a large eyepiece at the rear alongside the main controls, with the flash together on the front with the lens. While the shape may be unusual, it's still surprisingly comfortable to hold.

A neckstrap was included in the box too as part of the kit, and it is insanely long. Apple also included their own image software with the camera -- all 4 floppy disks worth of it -- along with the serial cable required to connect the camera to the computer. With the QuickTake 150 Apple added support for Windows 3.1 -- the previous iteration, the QuickTake 100 had been Mac only -- in an effort to widen the market appeal.

The photos taken are stored on the camera in QuickTake file format, but can be converted using the bundled software into more regular and supported file types such as JPEG, BMP and TIFF. So, the bundled QuickTake software and the serial cable are 100% necessary to actually get images from the camera to the computer, and there lies the very reason that sadly I won't be able to use it. For now, at least.

The QuickTake 150 can't be connected directly to a more modern Mac running OS X, because there is a lack of support for the Apple serial protocol used. I simply don't have any hardware old enough to support this camera, an unusual situation to be in. And, because the QuickTake 150 doesn't have any kind of display on it there's no way to preview any of the images taken without taking them off the camera first.

However, thanks to the Internet -- and in this case, Wikipedia -- here is a sample picture taken at maximum resolution with the QuickTake 150. Also thanks to the Internet, the full original user manual for the camera is available to view from Apple.

So, there's a quick look at a piece of vintage Apple. The camera line didn't live for long, with the QuickTake 150 being discontinued in 1997. It was though followed by a much improved model, the QuickTake 200 that looked a lot more like digital cameras of the modern day. It was also cheaper, had removable flash storage, a much wider range of shutter speeds and user-selectable focus and aperture controls.

It also serves as a reminder as to just how far camera technology has advanced. Sat next to my Panasonic Lumix G2 Micro 4/3 camera, the QuickTake 150 strikes an imposing figure.

Travel Channel Layover Guide

There's nothing worse than having a ridiculously long layover or dealing with a canceled flight, especially if you're on vacation. Instead of sitting in a hotel or wandering around an airport, Travel Channel's Layover Guide can help cure boredom and irritation by giving you lots of local spots to hang out at that you may have never decided to visit. Everything from breweries to pubs to five start dining and local attractions.

Pixter Scanner

If you're traveling in a foreign country where the main language is not your first language, reading things such as traffic and transit signs can become overwhelming and quickly eat up a lot of time. Enter Pixter Scanner for iPhone. This little gem of an app can snap a photo of any text you'd like and then translate it for you to any given language. Just choose the language the text is written in and what language you'd like it to translate to.

I've tried a lot of text translators and Pixter is by far one of the fastest and most accurate. The fact that it pulls from images instead of re-entering text just makes it that much more awesome.

Dwellable

Not everyone likes to stay in hotels when they're on vacation. Renting a house or finding a condo can be a task if you don't know where to look, though. Dwellable can you help you with that task by aggregating a huge list of properties for rent near many popular vacation destinations including Hawaii, Vail, Orlando, Palm Springs, and more.

Many of the listings on Dwellable will also have reservation calendars showing when properties are available along with contact information. This way you know while looking whether or not something is available the dates you need to travel. If hotels aren't your thing and you're traveling to one of the spots Dwellable supports, make sure to check out what properties are available. You may just be surprised how many you'll find.

I love my Apple TV, but what I'd love even more is a healthy dose of regional content on it. AirPlay is OK, but I see it more a means to an end in certain circumstances, not an integral part of my experience. When I'm relaxing watching TV, I don't want to have to reach for my iPhone or iPad, or even my Mac in order to put something on there to watch.

The major free-to-air channels in the UK -- BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 -- all have on-demand video services. Each of them also has an iOS application to watch their TV content on your iPhone and iPad. On the Mac, you only need the web browser. On the Apple TV, I'd love each of these to have their own channel.

AirPlay isn't quite the same

AirPlay is great, I use it all the time. Be it sending music or video from my iOS devices or mirroring the display on my Mac to the TV. Mirroring a Mac display doesn't help in this situation though, because I can't use it for anything else. OS X doesn't provide the same media-only AirPlay options that iOS does. (Fingers crossed for OS X 10.9...)

The other issue is that the apps have to be specifically AirPlay enabled. For example, this method works great on the BBC iPlayer app, but doesn't work at all on the ITV Player app, because it doesn't have AirPlay enabled. Whether it's DRM issues or contractual obligations that keep apps AirPlay free, or force strange AirPlay implementations, it makes no difference to the end user. We just think it's broken.

In the absence of proper channels, AirPlay is all there is, for those that support it. I find myself using apps like the iPlayer more than ITV Player simply because I can watch them on the TV if I want to.

Never mind when you try to mirror from an iPhone and the Phone app actually rings, killing the TV...

The TV is for relaxing

I like to relax when I'm watching TV, so when I'm using my Apple TV I just kick back, find something to watch and off I go. There's just not quite enough content to make me want to use the Apple TV more. The hardware is fine, the software is fine -- to me, at least -- I just want more content. I want to use my Apple TV more. I want to have one under every TV I have, and not have to think about whether I'll need my iPhone or iPad to help decide what I want to watch.

So, coming out of WWDC I would really love to see some Apple TV news. I'd love to see Apple announce that they've struck a whole bunch of regional content deals all over the world. Or the ability for developers to make apps for the platform so the likes of the BBC could do it themselves. And I'm sure I'm not alone in wishing for a better spread of regional content.

Apple has lowered the prices of refurbished versions of the iPad Mini and iPad 4. The discounts hover around 15% off the original price, with the 16GB Wi-Fi-only iPad mini starting at $279, and the 32GB and 64GB models starting at $359 and $439, respectively. These refurbished models had previously been available for $299, $389, and $489. The cellular models each go for $389, $469, $549, down from $429, $519, and $619.

Likewise, the iPad 4 models available also received price cuts. Starting with the 16GB version, prices for the Wi-Fi-only model are $419, $499, $579, from $449, $549, and $649. The refurbished cellular models come in at $529, $609, $689, coming down from $579, $679, and $779. A refurbished 128GB model is not available.

Apple notes that all refurbished iPads come with a brand new battery and outer shell. If you have been waiting for lower prices on either the iPad Mini or the iPad 4, now is a great time to get them.

If you use iTunes U in order to keep up with courses and class material, there will probably come a time when you've watched everything and completed assignments. That means you probably have no need to keep it on your iPhone or iPad any longer. If you want to free up some space, you can always delete them just as easily as you downloaded them.

Here's how:

1. Launch the iTunes U app from the Home screen of your iPhone or iPad.
2. From the main Library view, tap the Edit button in the upper left hand corner.
3. Now tap the books or course material that you'd like to delete. Then tap the Delete button that is now in the upper right hand corner.
4. iTunes U will ask you to confirm that you'd like to delete these selections. Tap Delete once more to confirm.

That's it. Deleting older titles and materials you aren't using anymore is a great way to not only keep your material organized, but free up precious storage space on your iPhone or iPad.

Sad news from Propellerhead, the makers of Reason and other excellent music software for Mac and iOS: They're planning to stop selling and supporting ReBirth for iPhone effective June 1st, according to "Synthhead" at Synthopia.

ReBirth is the pitch-perfect iOS recreation of Propellerhead's phenomenal "Techno Micro Composer" software that started out on the Mac - an emulation of three absolutely vital components for dance music: Roland's TB-303 bass synth and its TR-808 and 909 drum machines. FX units and pattern sequencers let you build out entire songs.

Propellerhead still sells and supports a more expensive iPad version of ReBirth, which will continue life well after the iPhone version is put to pasture. The iPad version gives you a lot more room to work, plus it lets you export your work as an MP3 file, so you can share with folks who don't have ReBirth installed.

That gives you a few more days to download the software if you want it. But be warned that once the deadline hits, you won't be able to share your ReBirth creations with other iPhone users anymore. Sharing ReBirth compositions with other users was always part of the fun.

The latest rumors surfacing about iOS 7 suggest that it will be "black, white and flat all over." Everyone seems to expect that Jony Ive has gone through iOS with the sandblaster, and the latest rumors suggest just that. The latest comes by way of 9to5Mac's Mark Gurman:

"Sources have described iOS 7 as 'black, white, and flat all over.' This refers to the dropping of heavy textures and the addition of several new black and white user interface elements."

Speculation -- and excitement -- continues to build ahead of WWDC in just a few weeks where we strongly anticipate seeing the fruit of Ive's labors. The 'flattening' rumors just won't go away, and the results of an iMore poll back in April suggested that a large number of you would also like to see some kind of refinement throughout.

Either way, we don't have long to wait until WWDC. Where would you start with the look and feel of iOS 7? What would you change about it? Does the mention of black and white interface elements excite you?

Turns out that spectacular Photos Every Day ad Apple released last month was just the first in a new series, as today they've introduced Music Every Day and it's every bit as terrific. Like the previous spot, Music Every Day shows people using the iPhone to enjoy music. Many and different people in many and different ways.

It's not caricatures feuding at a wedding, or acting stupidly at a pool party, or rushing to do something or be somewhere they won't even remember a week later. It's people living their lives, and those lives made better in small, constant ways by Apple.

Like Every Day Photos, Every Day Music shot just as beautifully, mixed just as subtly, but this time highlights the iPhone as every bit the inheritor of the iPod, and cultural icon it's become.

I might be overly predisposed to love this spot at the moment, what with all the bitter Apple-is-doomed BS of the last few months, and the cheery but forgettable ads that predated this series, but with both those things as palette cleansers, these last two ads come off especially sweet.

This is an Apple returned to their marketing savvy of old, once again at the height of their commercial powers. Hopefully they keep it up.

On last night's Daily Show, host Jon Stewart took time to make fun the United States Senate, as well as Apple, over the testimony given by CEO Tim Cook on Tuesday with regard's to Apple's tax practices. Stewart took Senators to task for their positive treatment of Apple and pointed out the flaws in Tim Cook's call to simplify the corporate tax code, while also poking fun at Maps and the infamous iTunes End User License Agreement.

As usual for The Daily Show, the segment is very funny. Check out the video below.

iTunes U makes it easy to download and subscribe to any courses you'd like. While not all courses come with assignments and material, some do. If you decide you'd like to complete assignments or want to download additional material, here's how to find out if any is available in iTunes U and download it directly to iBooks.

1. Launch the iTunes U app from the Home screen of your iPhone or iPad.
2. Tap on the Catalog button in the upper right hand corner.
3. Search for or navigate to the course you'd like to download assignments or additional material for.
4. Just like actual classes are listed, any additional assignments or materials will be listed as well. You can see the different in the icons.
5. Just tap on the Download button in order to download a specific assignment or additional item.
6. Once downloaded, just tap on the Download button one more time and you'll be taken to Safari to view it. You'll have the option to save it directly to iBooks if you'd like. Just tap on the Open in iBooks option that appears across the top under the address bar.

That's all there is to it. Unfortunately there isn't a way to save assignments with courses within the iTunes U app but saving them to iBooks is a means to an end and the next best thing. After you've opened the assignments and/or course material within iBooks, it'll be saved there for as long as you like and until you'd like to delete it.

AT&T has quietly added a new administrative fee that is now appearing on the bills of postpaid customers. The fee is for $0.61 and shows up as a line item under the surcharges and other fees section. According to The Verge who spoke with AT&T, the new fee was enacted help cover expenses for items such as cell sites and maintenance.

If you're a postpaid customer, you'll see the new charge on your bill starting with bills that are cut after May 1st of this year. With AT&T's subscriber base of over 70 million users, AT&T will see an increase in revenue of almost half a billion a year.

AT&T tells us that the administrative fee will "help cover certain expenses, such as interconnection and cell site rents and maintenance." It also added that the charge is "consistent with similar fees charged by other carriers."

Carriers calculate fees differently with some bundling them into other categories. Compared to Verizon and Sprint, AT&T's fees are slightly lower. While $0.61 doesn't seem like a lot of money per customer, it ends up being a very healthy amount when collected from all subscribers. If you have AT&T, did you see the charge appear on your most recent bill? If you have another carrier, how much money do you currently pay in surcharges and fees?

Instapuzzle for iPhone is a fun little game that cuts up Instagram photos into little square, scrambles them, and leaves it to you reassemble. The goal is to put the photo back together in as little moves and as quickly as possible.

Instapuzzle lets you play with your own Instagram photos as well with those taken by your friends, ones you've liked, and ones from a featured tag (this is currently #hoops).

To play the Instapuzzle, you simply slide the the tiles to the appropriate place. If you put a tile in the correct spot, the progress bar will advance, indicating that it's correct. However, there is no indication on the tile itself, so you must make a mental note when one is where it should be. You will also see a timer and ticker that keeps track of the number of moves you've made.

If you get stuck, you can use a hint to see what the original photos looks like. There are 5 hints included for free, with more available as in-app purchases.

Instapuzzle also includes sections where you can view your personal stats including the number of puzzles you've solved, how much time you've spent playing, and the distanced you've moved. You can also view all your high scores broken down by difficulty.

Instapuzzle includes 3 different difficulty levels: easy, medium, and hard. Easy cuts the photo up into 16 square, Medium is 25 squares, and Hard is 36 squares.

The good

• Progress bar indicates how close you are to solving the puzzle

If you're looking for a fun new way use your Instagram photos, Instapuzzle is great game. It's a very simple idea for a game, but the developers did an awesome job of putting it together; Instapuzzle is very polished.

iMore compares the best pre-paid iPhone plans available on AT&T, T-Mobile, H2O, Cricket, Straight Talk, and more!

Taking your iPhone to a prepaid plan can save you quite a bit of cash and if you live in the United States, there are quite a few options these days. Whether you're a talker, texter, or web surfer, there's something to be had for everyone when it comes to moving to a prepaid plan. Some may require tweaking a few settings to get things like picture messaging fully up and running, but if you need to save some cash or just don't fancy signing contracts, prepaid is a great option.

Let's take a closer look at some options across all the major iPhone compatible prepaid carriers in the United States.

Check for coverage

The most important aspect of choosing a carrier, prepaid or not, is whether or not there's good coverage in your area. We'd suggest checking coverage maps for each respective carrier so you can eliminate ones that are sub-par or non-existent where you spend most of your time. That'll ultimately make the decision a lot easier.

Once you've decided which carriers actually have good coverage in your area and which ones you can immediately rule out, you can start looking at what plans are actually available to you.

Unlimited everything prepaid plans

If you're looking for a completely unlimited plan on prepaid, there are actually quite a few options out there. T-Mobile is the most expensive option for unlimited everything but is the only one that comes with WiFi hotspot functionality. If you plan on using your iPhone to tether other devices such as your iPad or computer where WiFi isn't available, T-Mobile is the only unlimited option.

Straight Talk is the cheapest option available and runs off AT&T's network, so if your area is known to have good coverage with AT&T, Straight Talk is the best option if you don't need tethering functionality. Straight Talk also offers an unlimited plus international plan that allows you to call and text to outside the United States. It'll cost you a little more but is probably worth it if you intend on calling out of the country. This obviously doesn't mean you can travel internationally, and only includes calls and texts outside the country made from within the United States.

Net 10 and Cricket Wireless also have international plans available that are about on par with Straight Talk. However, Cricket only offers the feature up for text, not voice.

For most people, choosing a carrier, even prepaid, should always depend on what coverage is like in your area. Coverage aside, T-Mobile is the best deal and the only option if you want tethering while Straight Talk offers the most value and makes the most sense for people who need international options.

Tiered prepaid plans

If you don't need unlimited data and/or talk and text, you can get off a little cheaper yet. If Net 10 is available in your area, you can get dirt cheap unlimited data for $25 a month. You'll also get unlimited text and 720 minutes. It's a pretty good deal and if you aren't a big talker, it's a nice option. Just be aware that your data will be slowed down after a meer 1.5GB according to Net 10's terms of service.

H2O doesn't have any unlimited data plans that we could find with their plans topping out at 2GB. We also couldn't find any information on whether or not they will cap speeds after using a certain amount. However, if you talk and text more than anything, H2O has some good options if you don't plan on using a lot of data.

For heavy data users who don't really care about minutes at all, Virgin Mobile offers unlimited data and text on every plan they have. For as little as $35 a month you can get unlimited data and text with the tradeoff being only 300 minutes. If you're okay with watching your minutes, it's a good option.

If you talk and text a lot, but don't need a ton of data, either H2O or T-Mobile are your best bets. If you're the opposite, Virgin Mobile is worth a hard look since all their plans come with unlimited data and text.

The bottom line

When it comes to choosing a prepaid carrier, all of the above have their advantages and disadvantages. For the most part, T-Mobile and Straight Talk will have the best nationwide coverage. Cricket, H2O, and Virgin have spottier coverage but if it's strong in the areas you'll spend the most time, it doesn't mean you should rule it out if money is an issue.

Net 10 also has its advantages since they own spectrum on both GSM and CDMA. This means they can take advantage of both networks which gives them pretty good coverage nationwide as well. Considering the price points they offer, it's worth a hard look if they have options available in your area.

If you're looking to get the most bang for your buck with the best coverage, we'd recommend Straight Talk. Not only are their plans reasonable, there are international options to be had as well. And since you can take advantage of the AT&T network, traveling within the United States with a Straight Talk phone shouldn't be an issue.
