A hacker Eric Day has just released an amazing jailbreak tweak, called “Siri0us”. It brings Apple’s iPhone 4S exclusive Siri voice to text dictation feature to all iOS 5 devices such as iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and third and fourth generation iPod Touch and iPad 1.

In order to use this hack, you will require to have a jailbroken devices running iOS 5 or iOS 5.0.1.

To Get Siri, Launch Cydia and Go to Manage > Sources > Edit > Add and enter the following URL:

http://apt.if0rce.com

Than search for Seri0us tweak and install it. When it is done, you will able to use Siri dictation on your iOS 5 running iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.

Please note, this hack doesn’t use the Apple’s servers or its Siri technology, but instead rely on the Nuance speech recognition system to convert your speech to text, and it requires an internet connection to work.

Developer also reported about a small bug:

If your device keeps respring, DONOT restore! Use iFunBox/iPhone Explorer/SSH to remove /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AssistantServices.framework from your device.

Due to high demand, if you can’t install the tweak, try the following repo:

http://cydia.myrepospace.com/0xjf/

Checkout the video below showing Siri working successfully on iPhone 4, and surprisingly it looks very similar to Siri on iPhone 4S.

There are numerous rumors floating around about Facebook and HTC working together to design and manufacture an Android smartphone which will have Facebook social networking features built into it. This new Facebook phone has been codenamed strangely “Buffy”, and is said to run the latest modified version of Android.

Some news sources are telling that the process is in its initial stages, and so the phone might not be available until the second or third quarter of 2012. Both Facebook and HTC have yet to comment on these rumors.

However, many experts are calling the new Facebook phone idea a big flop, saying that the phone will suffer heavily in a market which is already saturated with numerous Android based phones as well as the Apple iPhone. Many of the smartphones you can buy today already have a number of social networking features and apps built into them, while a few devices such as the HTC Salsa and other similar devices from INQ and Motorola, even have dedicated Facebook buttons for the avid Facebook fan.

It was previously stated by Facebook, that the mobile goals it had were not about to have a Facebook phone, but now it seems that the company has plans to get it integrated with as many devices as possible.

Experts such as Llamas has said that numerous applications which are already available via Facebook like games may make valuable additions to a the Facebook phone. He also said that HTC is the leader in making good quality touch screens which is going to be a key ingredient in the upcoming Facebook phone.

Among the many naysayers is Rob Enderle who works for Enderle Group as an analyst. He said that numerous Windows Phones are not doing well in a market, and this is despite the fact that the platform works particularly well with numerous social networking tools. The new Facebook phone could possibly spark off a rivalry between Google+ and Facebook as Google tries to push its own social network.

There was a huge 31 page report published by the US Patent and Trademark Office, which has granted Apple 31 new patents today. With the 31 patents, the NFC (Near Field Communications) Technology is also included. It means Apple is planning to bring the NFC-based mobile payment system in future iOS devices. Some patents are in relation to retail transactions and Apple has also received a patent for the work flow which may take place on specific electronic devices. Now the electronic device could be next generation iPhone or a derivative device which provides sales transactions from Apple.

The NFC patents which Apple has gotten are numerous and can easily be found in the NFC archives. Apple also got a patent for their e-Wallet which will accompany their fast check out system currently being rolled out. Apple has already started to roll out its quick self-check out services in a number of retail stores which might support

So what does this mean?
NFC based mobile payments is going to make it very easy for people to walk into a store and use their mobile phones to pay for what they have purchased, hence eliminating the need to stand in long lines at the checkout counter. However, how far away Apple is from rolling out these devices and fully implementing these systems in most American stores and their online counterparts is anyone’s guess. Many tech gurus seem to think that Apple may just sit on the patents for a while and see how successful other companies such as Nokia is in this field prior to unveiling their own payment system. If anything it could be as soon as the second half of 2012 that we see the unveiling of the new NFC based mobile payment system or it could be as late as 2014.

If you have experienced a broken screen then you are one of the hundreds of iPhone users who complain that the screen is too fragile. There is no doubt that iPhone is an amazing smartphone but accidents do happen, the phone can fall, you can sit on or step on it etc which at the very least results in a broken screen. The nearly all glass on the front of iPhone feels sturdy until it falls, and once it breaks you have a tough time getting it repaired if your phone is not under warranty.

A recent report from Patently Apple, indicates that Apple is working on break proof or crack resistant glass. The report comes just days after the patent details of Apple being granted a patent for its crack resistant glass made its round in the media. The patent describes a clever little solution which Apple may use in future models which will ensure that the screen does not crack or break that easily. The document shows a number of ways in which this can be accomplished, and two of them seem to stand out and may indicate that these are the methods that Apple will use to crack proof its phones in the future.

One method involves cleverly disposing a rather small tunable shock which mounts in between the phone’s cover and the main glass body. This will work similar to how the shock absorbing in your car or motorbike works. Each time there is a shock such as your phone falling, it will be absorbed and dampen and reduce pressure on the glass which will prevent it from breaking. The shocks as they are labeled will also help protect the iPhone against another problem i.e. water damage. This is a good indicator of the fact that Apple is continuing to improve its product and so we can all expect good things from them in the future.

Rumors have flooded the internet in the recent days stating that Amazon is planning to release its own Smartphone around this time next year. According to Mark Mahaney, a Citigroup analyst, the company is in talks with a company called Texas Instruments to supply OMAP 4 processor chips to run their new phones. Smartphone’s are leading the digital market nowadays with a close second going to tablet PC’s.

Amazon has recently made their first foray into the tablet market with the $199 Kindle Fire. But the Fire doesn’t exactly stand toe-to-toe with other big tablet giants; the tablet is more of a cheap e-book reader with a few perks. The Apple iPad 2 sells for $499 but has 16GB of space and a 9.7 inch screen. In contrast, the Fire can only store 8GB and a 7 inch screen. According to analysts and reviewers alike, Amazon didn’t intend the Fire to be in direct competition with the iPad 2 and other tablets; rather they just wanted to get their content out to the mobile market.

While many believe that a Smartphone is the next logical step in this process, some are not so easily convinced. The Smartphone market is brutal with many different companies offering low cost and ‘cut down’ versions that appeal to every price range and demographic. Add to that the fact that Amazon will most likely go with Android as the operating system (they are using a version of Android for the Kindle Fire) and you have yet another Android phone on the market to compete against all the rest.

To make their Smartphone viable in this market they will need to make it something unique and different in order to stand out. One way is to add the phone capabilities to the Fire; a larger screen, yes, but many people are looking for a phone with a good e-book reader.

According to a news report by IDG, Steve Jobs’ had planned to build an cellular network which would bring out the true capabilities of the iPhone by bypassing all the carriers and using its own network. The network would be owned and also be run by Apple so that the quality of the service was what they could control. The chairman of Trilogy Partnership which is a venture capital company and also a mobile industry legend John Stanton was answering a number of questions during a latest interview which was a segment of the famous Law Seminars International back in Seattle a week back. When buy discussing the next generation of mobile technology he briefly mentioned the talks he had with Steve Jobs.

Stanton had spent possibly decades in the mobile industry and so his experience is what Steve Jobs really valued. He had previously worked at the famous McCaw cellular which transformed into today’s AT&T wireless and also founded the famous Western Wireless.

Between the period of 2005-07 Jobs met with Stanton many times in order to discuss his dream of constructing his very own Network but only for their iPhone. They both discussed possibilities and the prospect of using unlicensed parts of the wireless spectrum in order to create something which if anything gave the legendary Steve Jobs 100% control over what the end user would experience.

However, later on Jobs just decided against it because the whole venture to him looked unfeasible. However, because it was Steve’s dream the possibility of Apple coming up with their own wireless network is still a possible, and it could also be in the research stage in their labs as we speak.
