Who is It Prevails and where are you guys from? (Names, Instruments)

Whelp, right now, its kinda strange. For the first time we are all from different cities, which makes getting together for shows not only a little harder, but A LOT more special. I am Ian, on vocals, currently living in Cincinnati, Ohio. Chris who plays lead guitar, lives in Putnam, Connecticut. Our drummer, Jarrod, lives in Buffalo, New York. Nate who plays bass, lives in Bend, Oregon. And Nic our rhythm guitar player, lives in our hometown, Portland, Oregon. Don’t even bother asking how we make it all work! haha

What is the current state of It Prevails as far as new material goes?

What is the current state of It Prevails as far as new material goes?

We are about halfway through our next, upcoming full length. Which we will most likely record this year at some point. We are EXTREMELY excited to show everyone where our songwriting and music is at this point. Expect our best release.

IP was touring extensively for a while and seems to have suddenly taken a break? What caused the break and will IP be back on the road anytime soon?

Well after our original drummer decided to go home midway through our august 2011 tour, which was in support of our latest full length, the overall morale of the band went down. However, now that we have recovered and found a new (great!) drummer, We have nothing but future plans to carry on our name. We are all older and have families/careers, so touring will be minimal but we do plan on doing some touring this summer/fall, at some point

What are big influences to It Prevails as a band?

Well we are all older guys, so our influences that we name off as a general reference point are not ones most are familiar with or even knew exist these days. As far as bands we will quickly name off Beloved, Hopesfall, 2003-04 era Shai Hulud, Strongarm, Taken and probably bands like Goo Goo dolls and Foo Fighters. We dont take much influence from current bands, which most kids just can’t wrap their heads around As far as other influences they would probably be daily life and the struggles that come along with it. Loss, love, anger, passion, fight for what you want, things of that nature.

What do you guys consider to be your biggest accomplishment as a band up to this point?

Its hard to put that type of label on one sole act of ours. We are proud to have been overseas a few times and release our music
worldwide. These things means a whole to us.

What is the overall message you guys want fans to take from your music?

To live for yourself and let no one be the sole influence of who you are or how you live your life. In our eight years as a band, that has always been our main message and strongest point we have been trying to get across. That and treating everyone with an equal amount of respect and simply being a good person. We are and always have been a positive band with a positive message. That will never change. And we feel that is a big reason why people attach so closely to us and our message.

Who are you guys looking forward to seeing/playing with the most at The Jamboree this year?

We actually have a ton of homie bands playing alongside us this year, and we’ve toured with a number of them. Top few would be No Bragging Rights, Counterparts, With Life In Mind and quite a few more. Its a great lineup, you guys did a great job with selection this year!

What can fans look forward to seeing from It Prevails at The Jamboree?

An all out, high energy, passionate performance. We put every single ounce of energy our bodies hold into our music, especially when we play these songs live. We feel we are at our peak of musicianship and if anyone going has ever been a fan of ours, you have picked a great time to check out one of our sets. Get stoked.

What bands should kids be on the look out for that are up and coming?

We are always changing our music listening rotation. But we have all been stoked on The Panic Division, Restore, Climates, Erra and a few others. Anyone that holds substance with their band’s music and lyrics, we are generally big fans of. WE CANNOT WAIT FOR THE JAMBOREE!
