Hey everyone,

Here is the last Justin Wayne Show to be broadcasted on Recharged Radio.  As they continue to grow and prosper I have made the difficult decision to remove my show from its ranks.  I still believe in the station, it’s a great media outlet for independent music and after putting so much work into it over the last three years, it was a tough decision to go.  However, my show and Recharged met a fork in the road and Recharged went one way and I’ve decided to go another.

The Manic Shine get signed to Animal Farm Records! Yay for both of them!

Discovery 2 LIVE in November welcomed Toodar, Asya, Laura Jenkins and Wolfette to the AAA in Kensington.  The podcast has all four of their live sets captured on the night as well as interviews with each of the artists.

An absolute stonker of a gig – Discovery 2 – went down at the AAA in Kensington in October, and we’re pleased to bring you the full live sets and interviews from the evening in this special podcast.  Thanks to the artists who played: Zodiac N Black, October Sky, Billy Vincent, and Theo Altieri as well as the venue, all of the Herts Uni folk and the extremely receptive audience who attended.

Juey, country artist from Cheltenham, stopped by on a Saturday to chat with us and play her guitar.  She was on her way down to record her vocals for The L Project, run by Georgie of the band Greymatter.  They’re recording a charity single with loads of the most talented lesbian musicians from around the UK, and of course Juey is part of that.

Juey also played some tunes for us from her upcoming full-length album which should be released sometime next year and a few of our favourites off her current EP “Before the Devil Catches Me” which you can pick up yourself from her brand new website at iamjuey.com.

David Goo came up to the flat and gave us a good dose of his new album, “World Domination” by playing a few live tracks for us and spinning some tracks off the album.  I pried into his personal life, the reasoning behind a few of his songs, and a look into what it takes to form a DGVB tune from idea to the stage.

An amazingly interesting man, Dave is also very humble and self-analytical – quite possibly the biggest critic of their music.  It shows in their extreme attention to detail and the fun they have once the tunes are crafted and ready.  Also it may explain why their album took so many years to record.

Having just been to Ariel Hyatt‘s keynote at PRS House presented by Evil Genius Media, I feel empowered to share their message onto you, not unlike someone who’s just entered a new religion.  It all seems so obvious and easy promoting your own music online… however, I understand that it’s WORK and not all of us have time for much of it.  However, the overarching theme was that you WILL have time for it if you just DO IT.

The best thing I learned was… 1. HAVE A PLAN.  2. DO SOMETHING.  Just doing things is OK, but it’s easy to get discouraged.  Having a plan helps with goal setting and organizing your time.  After that, it’s just work and time.  Do it.  You can.

Ariel’s done a fantastic guest blog post at CD Baby that you should check out, complete with the Musicians’ Social Media Pyramid if you’re a bit lost on how and what to tweet.

We did play lots of great music today on the show – lots of new stuff and a few we met at the event.

That’s right, I had the distinct privilege of interviewing drummer, songwriter, singer, and writer Jacob Slichter who plays in a band called Semisonic and currently has a book out now called So You Wanna Be a Rock and Roll Star.  We spoke for quite a long time talking about the types of record deals artists should think about, what Semisonic went through chasing their record deal, touring, what they’re all up to now, what Jake thinks of radio and the music industry now, and a few other bits and bobs.

That’s right, independent music legend Martin Sexton is joining us tonight, and since tech didn’t allow it to go live, we’ve got it here.

It’s not just because he`s on his way to play at Borderline in London on Monday, but that it’s 9/11 and his most recent album, Sugarcoating, focuses on just that.

The title track cuts straight through and asks many questions about the 9/11 attacks, but in a way where you might not even think about the words the first time as the tune is so upbeat and the melody so pleasing to the ears. Perhaps the song itself is an ironic critique of what it`s critiquing – the glossing over of mass media.

However, Martin is far from mass media, although his own independent label, Kitchen Table Records, is doing very well. He broke off from Atlantic in 2001 and hasn’t looked back, and we discuss this with him in the interview as well.
