IN OUR WINEGLASS:

A. Diehl WEISSER BURBUNDER 2010

A fabulous Pinot Blanc wine that has become a favorite in our home. I couldn't find a website that carries this but it could be ordered by your local wine seller from the importer Mitchell Wine Group through Ewald Moseler.

I did find this descripiton of the wine which truly says it all:

Pardon the cheeky pun on the producer’s name, but this wine is A. Diehl! Here we have Weisser Burgunder, a.k.a. Pinot Blanc, transformed into a beauteously crisp, fresh, appealing and food-friendly style. Gone are all pretenses of opulence and prestige; in are freshness, liveliness, deliciousness, value, and food-friendliness. Smoky Pfalz soil serves as a lovely undercurrent for this crisp pear and green melon-scented wine. Fresh, vivacious and simply delicious, this is a Pinot Blanc that dares to be a wine of character, value and satisfaction for the humble, hardworking, soulful person in you. ON MY NEEDLES:

I'm still trying to get my head around the spacing of the name on Dread Stocking Randall but it's just a matter of sitting down with it and working it out.

I am finishing up my Bianca's Jacket which is turning out lovely in the Muench Sir Galli yarn the pattern originally called for. Unfortunately the yarn has been discontinued. All I have left to knit is the button band!

I am also starting work on the Lakedale Shawl which my mother had started and passed on to me to finish for her.

OFF MY NEEDLES:

I am thrilled with my Tea Leaves Cardigan It's so warm and cozy.

And I just adore the leaf buttons by One of a Kind made in Portland, of course. A gift from Amy De from Atlanta.

One of the great things about Portland (as if there aren't enough) is that they tend to attract the rock starts of the fiber world. I was fortunate enough to attend a Stephanie Pearl McPhee book signing at Powells Book Store. And fun was had by all!

Finished and sent off the February Lady Sweater I was knitting for my mom for Mother's Day. Better late than never, I say.

Finished my Black Sheep Gathering Knit-a-long, Boneyard Shawl by Stephen West done in my handspun and I just love the colors. Thanks to Daily Fibers by Jan (worldygirl) and Navajo Plying, I have a lovely striped kerchief shawl to be proud of.

Cast on for "Dread Stocking Randall" and am making good progress. I'll post pics when it's complete.

I made this little teepee for the girls from an Ikea duvet cover. It turned out so cute and they love it!

And my garden is in full swing even though we got a late start here due to the move. The weather has just started to warm and set things in motion so all is well.

IN OUR WINEGLASS:

Snoqualmie Whistle Stop Red Cabernet Merlot 2008 As everything we have encountered so far in Oregon, this wine does not disappoint. Rick is a fan of Merlot and I am a fan of Cabernet and this wine is a perfect blending. Not too fruity, not too dry. Goes great with Moonstruck Chocolate!

REVIEW:

My review this week was on In-Spin-Knit-Y Blocking Wires. These are a super product. Light, flexible, keep their shape and are easy to store. They will get ALOT of use in the Riley house!

February Lady Sweater for my mother. Nearly finished!

The Camp KIP knit-a-long, The Daybreak Shawl by Stephen West hit a snag when I ran out of yarn 30 stitches from finishing the bind off. Fortunately one of our listeners has already contacted me with extra yarn for my needs!

ON MY WHEEL:

Here is the beautiful green Mixed BFL from Daily Fibers aka the talented Jan (Worldygirl) that I spun up. Four more hanks to spin and I can start a sweater!

Sadly, we will not be attending the Smokey Mountain Fiber Arts Festival March 17-19 but will be heading down south to Florida to celebrate our 19th wedding anniversary and see some old friends. But we do plan on attending Stitches South on April 14-17 so we hope to see you there!

ON MY NEEDLES:

My February Lady Sweater is making slow progress.

The mittens I started for my daughter with my handspun are completed...just in time for Spring.

But most of my time has been spent on my Citron Shawl. I have thoroughly enjoyed knitting this.

All I have left is the crochet beaded bind-off.

WHAT'S IN OUR WINEGLASS:

This week it was Mango Martinis. Here's the recipe:

2 oz. Absolut Mango Vodka
1 oz. Triple Sec
2 oz. Mango Nectar
1/4 oz. Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice

Put all ingredients in a blender with lots of ice and blend. Strain into glasses.

And here is Rick's non-exact recipe for his Fondue Stuffed Mushrooms:

Cream Cheese
Bleu Cheese Dressing
Bleu Cheese Crumbles
Chives
Large button mushrooms stems removed

Mix all ingredients to taste and scoop into the mushroom caps. Dip into Tempura batter and fondue in hot peanut oil until golden brown. Enjoy!

Here is the Dehydrated Kale Chips recipe I mentioned.

Ingredients:
1 Bunch Kale stems removed and torn into bite sized pieces
2 Tbsp Cold Pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1 Tbsp Braggs Liquid Aminos or Tamari or Nama Shoyu (raw soy sauce)
Juice of 1 lemon
1/4 C Nutritional Yeast
Put all ingredients in a bowl and massage ingredients into kale and let sit 5 min.
Place on dehydrator trays and dehydrate below 107 degrees for 4-6 hours for raw chips or over 107 degrees for fewer hours and cooked chips. These can also be done in the oven on low temp.
Enjoy!

Our first sock is underway using Barking Dog Yarns Opposites Attract in the Arthur and Guinevere colorway. This sock will be a size 8.

Our second Sock Around The World has been finalized using Lorna's Laces Sock Yarn in the Buck's Bar colorway. This will be a size 10.

And a third Socks Around the World is just about ready to go. It will be a size 6.

February Lady Sweater is coming along. I still have a ways to go but I'm just enjoying taking my time on this.

SOCK AROUND THE WORLD:

We've come up with what I think will be a really fun and exciting undertaking. We will be sending a out 2 skeins of Barking Dog Yarns Opposites Attract in the Arthur and Guinevere colorway to be made into a pair of socks by 10 of our listeners. The first 10 people to volunteer in our Ravelry group under the Socks Around The World thread, will get to be a part. We will be dividing the sock up into five parts: ribbing, leg, heel, foot and toe. When you sign up, please pick the part of the sock you want to knit. We will choose 2 knitters for each sock part. Participants may choose whatever pattern they wish to knit, any type ribbing or edging, any type heel, etc. These socks will be a hodgepodge, a representation of 10 different knitters. And when they are done, the will be raffled off.
Knitters who wish to participate must be willing to include some of your favorite chocolate for the next knitter on the list and be willing to pay postage to the next knitter.

This should be so much fun and I can't WAIT to see the amazing socks our listeners will create!

KAL Part II

Don't forget to use stitch markers between your 7-stitch lace repeats. It will make your life easier. :)

If you want an easier way to try on your sweater, you won't be disappointed with Try It On Tubing. Zips in, zips out! Much faster than waste yarn. You'll love it!

And for those who don't wish to tinker with the SSK, don't forget that the K2tbl (Knit Two Through Back Loop) is a very close second and is much faster and less fiddly. Give it a try and see what I mean.

FEBRUARY LADY SWEATER KNIT-A-LONG

This is the increase I used and which Elizabeth Zimmerman suggests using in the Knitters Almanac. It is virtually invisible. But feel free to use your favorite increase.

Backward Loop Cast-On also called Make One Towards on KnittingHelp.com

Buttonholes: Here are three suggestions but feel free to use your own.

One Row Buttonhole
Tulip Buttonhole
Reversible One-Row Buttonhole (This one is my favorite and the one suggested in the pattern.)

Even spacing of your Yarn Overs on your Eyelet Row.

Don’t forget to use those stitch markers between your Gull Lace repeats and before and after your garter border.

FEBRUARY LADY SWEATER KNIT-A-LONG:

It is strongly suggested that you make a garter stitch swatch with the yarn you are using and that you collect a boatload of stitch markers for this project. We cast on February 1st.

OFF THE NEEDLES:

First Zipper Sock is COMPLETE!

My There And Back Again (formerly Hong Kong Garden) Sweater is as done as it can be. Alas, I have run out of yarn and since it's handspun from an unknown source, I am at a loss. Anyone know of any yarn/fiber that resembles either the yoke or the body of this sweater?

I can't show you a picture of the current sweater because it's gone MISSING!!! I fear t his sweater was never meant to be. :(

Larger Than Life Bag is awaiting final piecing. Panels are pieced, side and bottom band need to be sewn on and lining and strap made. Since the crocheting is complete, I am listing this as OFF MY HOOK!

ON MY FUTURE NEEDLES:

I found the beautiful Vinelle sweater pattern and I'm pretty sure this is what I will be knitting with my Christmas Malabrigo.

Several of you gave great suggestions for ease of working with charts.
Here are a few:
1. Enlarge the chart for ease of reading
2. When there are large blocks of knit or purl stitches on the chart, count them up ahead of time and pencil the number in so you don't have to count them as you go.
3. Color code your symbols with different color highlighter pens. It's much easier for your brain to link a color with a stitch type than to have to interpret the symbol every time.
4. Use a magnetic chart keeper/holder moving the magnetic strip along each line as you complete it. OR Use highlighter tape which can be picked up and moved to the next working row.
5. When using an enlarged pattern, a cookie sheet and a magnetic strip work great for keeping track of your pattern rows.

Thank you to everyone who sent birthday wishes! And I hope your Christmas and New Year celebrations were as blessed as mine.

I finished the Zephyr Shawl for my mother. What a sight to behold!

For those of you who are closet Scotch tape sniffing addicts like me, there's a group for us.

One of my Christmas gifts included a Majacraft Skeiner which will arrive in February. Another was a sweater's worth of Malabrigo...oh, let me pause and catch my breath!

And finally I was able to cash in some gifts and put my money on CampKIP! We'll be taking over Pere Marquette in Grafton, IL on April 6-9, 2011! It looks like so much fun! I hope you can join me!

We also hope to attend Stitches South April 14-17, 2011 in Atlanta, GA.

My little Christmas Gnome ornament gave me so much pleasure in the making. I hope that it will give the recipient, Fiona Duthie, just as much pleasure.

This is the little toy I modeled it from.

and gathered a donation from Petunia, my French Angora for his beard and hair.

Spiraluscious #2. I just love how this yarn is showing off the shades of the ocean. Watery Depths is certainly the correct name for this fiber from Susan's Kitchen. By the way, I figured out my mistake and owe an appology to Anne Hanson. Her pattern is fine. I, on the other hand, am not!

Everyone simply must try the Try-It-On Tubing for ease of trying on your top-down sweaters. Comes in 1 or 2 yard lengths.

ON MY POLLY:

Moonwood Farms created this beautiful blend of Alpaca, Bamboo, Milk, Rambouillet and Angelina just for me and my Polly. Spun Z. Plied S on my Suzie.

ON MY SUZIE:

Super-fine Merino roving personally hand-dyed in what I call the "Truly Scrumptious" colorway. I hope to make this into a 2-ply worsted weight yarn. Here's a close-up.

I spent some time cleaning the Corriedale fleece from "Opal" that I purchased at the Yarn Circle in Murphy, NC. I can see how she got her name. Such a beautiful silver fleece. I can't wait to start spinning it!

ON MY BOND:

Finishing up my squares for the Land's End Warm Up America Project and will be sending them out this week. The most challenging part about this project was finding the time to do it. The task itself was like whisting a tune! But boy I'm glad that song is over!

Well, unfortunately, the knitting machine trade didn't work out. It appears the machine is just not in good enough working order to qualify as a viable trade. This is no fault of the trader who generously gave it up in good faith, thinking that it worked. SO, we are back to trading the child's approx. size 6 handknit sweater in Northampton Bulky. It is finished all but the collar and the extra yarn is included.

Ta Da!!!! It's FINISHED!!! The Dread Stocking Robert is now the handsome farmboy, Wesley!

I want everyone to notice it is nearly the SAME size as the model stocking and NOT the size of King Kong!! If it were pressed flat, it would not be so wonky and would therefore be the exact size.
