What is your blog all about?

I'm a wife, mommy of two boys and master of nothing. However, I love new recipes, working out, organizing, wannabe clean eater, loves fashion but spends a lot of time in yoga pants, and a very unperfect mom. My blog is my space to write about it all!

What is one thing you have learned from blogging?

Networking. It's one thing to write your posts which I really enjoy doing. However if you want anyone to read them getting your name and your blog out there takes a lot of networking. It takes connecting with people, doing blog hops, link ups and finally posts you enjoy and commenting on them. You could easily making blogging a full time job ( at least I know I could!)

What do you do when your not blogging?

Being OCD about my house, hanging out with my family, working ( only 2 days a week), running because I'm training for a half marathon in June, and trying to find time for some of my hobbies

DIY: How to paint a Chevron Stripe

Hello Friends, it's Amanda, from mommy is coocoo. Today I am going to share a popular painting tutorial with you.

I tried to paint a chevron stripe when I made a pallet wood sign for a friend. To say it was challenging would be an understatement! I looked at several tutorials online that were difficult to understand. (My coocoo mind can take about three directions then I start to skim.) I thought all those people that said, "easy and simple" when they were talking about how to paint a chevron stripe were liars (or geniuses).

I still don't think the process for painting a chevron stripe is easy or simple (there are more than three steps) but I believe I've created a simple tutorial. This tutorial is so Easy to Understand my five year old sat beside me and drew the stripes.

How to Paint a Chevron Stripe

The process is the same regardless of what you paint on (could be a wall, piece of furniture, a wood sign, etc...)

My lines are slightly crooked because you are seeing photos of the paper I drew on. Bare with me!

Now your object is divided in half.

Now your object is divided into four equal sections.

Now your object is divided into several small boxes

Now you can see the chevron!

Now paint your chevron stripes and erase or paint over your pencil marks

DIY Wall Art

Hi Everyone, I'm back again to share a new DIY project. I shared with you in my DIY Sunburst Mirror post that I was redoing my bathroom so this month I decided to make something for that bathroom. I decided on making some wall art from these fun chargers I found at Target on clearance for $2.98. As you can see in these pictures my walls really needed some lovin'.

I had found these chargers at Target for $2.98. When I saw them I "knew" they would make a great foundation for a piece of art and thought they would go perfect with the colors in my bathroom.

Here's how I did it.

I searched the internet for public domain prints that I could get for free. Here are two FABULOUS sites.

After deciding on the prints I wanted I uploaded them to Sam's Club and had them printed.

I went downstairs to my scrap room and found 3 12 x 12 pieces of chipboard. I grabbed my can of Rust-oleum Brown Hammered paint and gave each piece of chipboard a coat of paint. I love the hammered affect on the chipboard. It adds texture.

Once the paint was dry I used a hot glue gun and glued the chipboard to the charger.

I then took my photo and using a tape runner I put the photo on the chip board.

Next I took some rope that I had in my craft stash and hot glued the rope on the edge of the chipboard.

Here are the 3 pieces all complete.

and here they are on the wall.

I love my new art with a total cost of $4.50.

3.00 for the charger

1.50 for each photo

I had the chipboard, paint, rope and glue.

I LOVE walking by the bathroom and admiring my new art work. I can't wait to DIY the rest of the room.

She Got A HEART!

Things have been crazy this week for my family, but in a good and exciting way! My mother in-law who has been waiting down in LA for a heart received good news last Saturday!

They found her a heart!!!

It happened so fast that we didn't have time to drive the 7+ hours it takes to get down to LA before she went into surgery. She had the heart transplant at around 7pm. We left as soon as we could and my husband and I were the first ones to see her Sunday morning, although she wasn't awake just yet, she was alive and beginning the process of recovery!

Yesterday she was able to facetime and my husband got to talk to her a little bit. He was VERY happy about that :)

She has to stay down in LA for about 3 months with constant supervision so hopefully we will get to go down there again real soon to visit her!

While she was waiting for weeks at the hospital for a heart she started writing a blog, you can find it here. Hopefully one day soon she will continue to write!

Zesty Italian Chicken Crockpot Recipe

We all should know by now how much u love me a good chicken crockpot recipe, and this recipe is no different. It's easy, it's delicious, and there were plenty if leftovers! It was perfect for the blizzard like weather we have been having here in Colorado too!

ZESTY ITALIAN CHICKEN [crockpot]

[adapted from the girl who eats everything]

Ingredients:

4 chicken breasts
1 packet dry Zesty Italian dressing [I used a packet and a half.]
1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
1-2 cans cream of chicken soup (depending how cream cheesy you want it)

Directions:

Place the chicken in a crockpot and sprinkle Italian dressing over it.
Combine cream cheese and cream of chicken soup in a small pot over low heat and pour over chicken.
Cook on high in the crockpot for 4-6 hours [especially if your chicken in frozen].
At this point I cut up my chicken into cubes, but you could keep it whole, cut it up, or shred it.
Put the chicken back in the crockpot after cutting it up, and mix it with the remaining sauce.
Serve over pasta or rice.

Dear Life, I sometimes feel like you are just floating past me way too fast. Like if I don't breathe and take in every moment that I will miss so much. And it's weird to me that even though I think that, I still can't stop myself from being so busy. Dear Self, Let's change that and take in life one day and one moment at a time. Wesley and I were just talking about how when Raegan was little we were just in such a hurry for her to walk and talk that we kind of forgot to take in the crawling stage and so for Jaxon we are going to be the opposite and LOVE the days where he is a precious little baby! I can't wait to meet him and hold him and spoil him!! Dear Raegan, You are so much fun at this age! I love that you LOVE animals, I finally have someone to show and love my animals with. You were all smiles when we were feeding the chickens and giving them hugs! So happy that it's summer time and we are doing more outdoors activities. OH TO BE A KID AGAIN!! Dear Husband, Tuesday is our 8th anniversary and I know I sound like a broken record when I tell you how much you mean to me, but I honestly can't say it enough. You know why I understand you the most in life? It's because I see your heart everyday. My life is filled with joy and laughter because of the things you say or the way we sing in the car or the dates we go on or the long talks we have on different subjects. You truly are my best friend and there is no doubt that God made you specifically for me :) I know everyone thinks that when a couple deals with infertility issues that it's just the woman who has a hard time and cries and desperately wants a child... but I know that you have just as much want for a child as I have and it breaks my heart to see you under so much pressure. DIY: Vertical Garden

Hello extraordinary people! It's Amanda and I am so excited for you to see this vertical garden! I love showing you inexpensive ways to create something beautiful and unique for your home. Not to mention how I feel about taking someone's trash and turning it into a treasure.

Here's what you will need to make a Vertical Garden from a Pallet:

hunky guy with a saw and a drill
a pallet (bet you can find lots of them on big trash day this spring)
paint (whatever color you prefer)
potting soil
plants
landscape fabric
staple gun
sander

For this vertical garden the pallet was cut down (four planks on the front and two on the back).

Paint the pallet (this pallet was painted blue and lightly sanded).

After the pallet dries completely, use a staple gun to attach landscape fabric to the back and bottom (you can purchase this at any hardware store).

Fill the pallet with lots of potting soil.

Add a variety of plants in between each plank.

Succulents look beautiful and I love the waterfall look of these petunias on top.

Attach a plank to the bottom of your vertical garden.

Prop the garden by the pool and enjoy!

San Francisco Beach

Last Saturday for my birthday I got to go to San Francisco with my family and take my niece to the beach for the first time. I seriously cherish these moments so much. I walked her out to the water first thing and a little wave came in just enough to hit her toes and panic came across her face, HA. That Northern California ocean is always freezing. She absolutely LOVED the sand. It was the first time she was able to just dig in and have fun, sand all the way up her arms and legs. The boys, my husband and brother in-law, were VERY serious about building their sand castle, when Raegan tried to walk through, you should see their faces... ha boys will be boys. You have been on the blog before but remind people what your blog is all about?

My blog, That Suburban Momma, is all about my adventures (and sometimes misadventures) as a mother. I have a wonderful 7 year old daughter and she is the biggest inspiration of my writing. I write about a range of things including: being a mom, teaching preschool, my passions, my faith, crafts, cooking, cake decorating, fitness, beauty, fashion, and all of the randomness that is my life.

Describe your personality and how it shines through your posts?

I am one of those very optimistic people (I've heard that can be annoying). I'm just very happy and I feel so blessed and I really hope that shines through in my posts. In person I can be a little shy and awkward. When I'm writing, I don't worry as much, so I'm not sure if that shows through my writing or not. I am a very passionate person, and above anything I hope that shines through to you all.

What would be your advice for new bloggers out there?

Promote yourself! When I first started blogging, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I didn't realize that you had to do more than write. You may be an amazing writer, but if you don't get your name out there, no one will ever know. Start with blog hopping, and networking on social networks. The biggest thing that has helped my blog grow is advertising and sponsoring other blogs. I highly recommend sponsoring Melissa. I saw huge results the first time I sponsored her.

What would we find in your purse/bag?

Oh goodness, I have a huge purse so a lot of junk for sure, haha! I love to pretend I'm glamorous, so I always have a full face of makeup which means I need a good touch up kit at all times.

My typical day to day makeup touch up kit contains:

Mac "Ruby Woo" lipstick

Black liquid liner

Nars finishing powder

Nars "Orgasm" blush

Mac "Kid Veluxe" eye shadow

Lash glue

Assorted Mac brushes

Aside from makeup, I always carry my inhaler, sanitizing wipes, hand sanitizer, eye drops, aspirin, and of course my wallet.

Favorite thing to do in your spare time-

Spend time with my family. I am always on the go, so any free time I have I spend it with my princess. We enjoy doing crafts, baking, listening to music and dancing, making up random songs, and just being silly.

If you could live someone else's life for one day who would it be and why?

My daughter's! She's so carefree and never has a worry. I would love to be a kid for a day. Life is was so simple back then!

Bottle Cap Magnets

How to make magnets out of picture proofs and bottle caps.

Hello all of you extraordinary people! It's Amanda, from mommy is coocoo back to show you a fun and inexpensive craft project! When I purchased my kids school pictures, the pictures came with four small picture proofs. That means it's time to make some bottle cap magnets.

I can't throw my kids pictures proofs out.

I mean look at those sweet, happy faces.

Put these proofs in the trash? There's no way!

So, I saved up some bottle caps and I made magnets from the picture proofs.

I love making something special out of things most people would throw away!

Bottle caps (also something most folks would throw away) are roughly the same size as a quarter.
I used a quarter to trace my boys faces.

Then I secured the pictures inside the bottle caps with a dab of hot glue. It doesn't have to be hot glue, but make sure you secure the pictures in place with some kind of glue.

Now you are ready for the shiny stuff that goes on top of the pictures (resin). Resin can be purchased online or at a craft store (mine is from Hobby Lobby). Resin is an awesome product! You can use it for all kinds of great projects!

The resin people are not even joking with their directions so read all of them (I usually skim). DON'T use Resin when you are pregnant. It is extremely toxic!

Pour the resin right on the pictures. It'll be scary but you can do it. After the resin hardens you will have a clear stone like cover to protect your pictures. DON'T move the bottle caps or touch the resin for at least a day (you'll be tempted - DON'T DO IT). After a day glue a small magnet to the back of the bottle cap.

There are some bubbles in the resin but this picture is magnified several times and you can see the boys faces clearly.

Dear Friday, today is my last day as a 27 year old. I'm a little more sad than usually this year because I'm creeping up on 30. I want to hold on to my 20s as long as possible! Dear Saturday, Birthday time means family time in San Francisco (my absolute favorite)! We are going to Joe's Crab Shack like we do every year (my choice of course). So excited!! Dear husband, I honestly treasure you and our friendship more than you know! My absolute favorite times are our car rides where we sing loud, dance crazy and laugh so hard. Our 8 year anniversary is coming up at the end of April and I can't believe it's already been that long!!! You are the love of my life and I appreciate you sooo much!
