The criteria for coming to Jesus is weariness. Come overwhelmed with life. Come with your wandering mind. Come messy.

What does it feel like to be weary? You have trouble concentrating. The problems of the day are like claws in your brain. You feel pummeled by life.

What does heavy-laden feel like? Same thing. You have so many problems you don’t even know where to start. You can’t do life on your own anymore.

God and his word are the most important things you can share with anyone, including someone who is suffering because of disability. And not far behind are testimonies of God’s extraordinary goodness, even amid the most difficult circumstances.

Greg Lucas was one of the first people considered when the idea of a conference related to disability and the Bible started to come together. He clearly articulates God’s goodness in all things, seeing his disabled son through the lens of the Bible, not the perceptions of the culture or even his own.

His book, Wrestling with an Angel, sets a high standard for how to talk about one’s own experience of suffering while pointing to our all-sufficient God who is eternally wise and good. It is not just for fathers of children with disabilities; this book is for everyone who loves God and wants to know him.

My wife and I are pretty involved in the adoption community for our area, and one question we get all the time is:

“I want to support adoption, we don’t feel “called” to adopt, but we want to support families that do, what can we do?”

Well, I have a simple way you can do that. Consider supporting me as I run a 1/2 marathon with Team Orphans. Team Orphans is a great agency that partners with Britney’s Hope to provide families who are adopting grants, in order  to bring their children home. What I love about Britney’s hope is that 1. there is a focus on kids with special needs, being a father of 2 children with special needs this automatically jumped out to me. 2. There is a focus on not just getting a child into a physical house, but there is a focus on getting a child to their forever home, by sharing the knowledge of the gospel with them.

This is a great cause – Adoption is expensive in the last 2 years we have spent, borrowed, been given, been loaned over $50K and the average adoption runs in between $17-35k; a cost most families don’t have just sitting on the side. This is a way you can help some other families bring their kids home and spread the gospel.

* I know that there are a lot of people asking for support these days, but I assure you this is a cause that is worth fighting for…

1. If I’m stressed and raise my voice, my kids only hear my tone, not my words.

2. Explicit instructions = action; Random barking = guilty confusion

3. You may think you’re saving time by running around while yelling; but, calling the kids together for a team huddle usually proves much.more.efficient.

4. Obedience motivated by joy > obedience motivated by fear.
