Recording under different aliases, the Burrell Brothers were the backbone of Nu Groove Records. This New York label started in 1987 and took inspiration from Trax Records, both musically and aesthetically. This compilation compiles the absolute best of the Burrell’s output and in doing so is giving us a valuable insight to the much overlooked roots of New York house music.

The Boys Are Back In Town

Yes that’s right – thanks to the great crowd who travelled from far and wide, and thanks to the brilliant anything-goes party atmosphere that night, Dan and Conrad have jumped at the chance to perform for us all once more at the cave-tastic Brit Club – a venue which exceeded everybody’s expectations last spring.  (location map)

Unfinished Business

The Idjuts certainly treated us all to a wide spectrum of top-drawer party tunes back in March; everything from Dolly Parton through Yacht Rock to Acid House and so much more…and this Autumn is sure to be no different.

The SmokescreenSoundSystem sounded great too; crystal clear and full of bass (and barely turned up to warp factor 3!), so it’s back again for the October 8th party.

Licence to Fill

As before, there will be a late licence till 5am. And the Brit Club barstaff will be just as happy to serve you at 4:57am as will have been at 11pm. Just like last time…

New This Season

To make things even better this autumn, we have enlisted the talents of Visualab from Vent Media to provide the party with some visual entertainment (if anyone remembers the fantastic projections at the Nash party last year…that was Visualab). Get your trance face on!

Tickets are the ‘virtual’ type – following payment you will be given a unique reference number (via confirmation message and e-mail) to write down or print out and bring with you.

All you need to bring to the party is a name and reference number(s) – for you, and any friends you have purchased for (there are no physical tickets).

We’ll cross you off our guest list and the Idjut Boys will be playing when you reach the top of the stairs and enter the cave.

It’s a bit like flying with a budget airline, except of course, we’ll be going much higher and faster!

Thanks to the Hubble bar for once again providing the ideally situated pre-party venue (link to map). Bask in the warmth of the WildHoney SoundSystem ft. Fran Green and Matthew Clarke and dodge speakers falling off walls (sorry about that!) before heading to the main event not 5 minute’s walk away.

After the last Brit party, everybody who came told us we had to put on another one….and everyone who wanted to come but couldn’t told us they wished that they had been there. SEVEN INCH FREAK-OUT by Soft Rocks

It’s been a long-time, so welcome aboard backyard boogie as Rahaan brings the heat to the Love Unlimited HQ.  We caught him rocking the small but perfect ‘Sink’ in Liverpool…he was firing then & firing on this lovely exclusive follow-up mix.

Rahaan is now renowned globally for his edits and jacking  Disco sets, since the mid 80’s he’s been collecting and playing Disco and House music, rising through the ranks of the underground clubs of the Windy City to spinning at venues around the world including Japan, Europe and Australia.

As a result he’s gained legendary status internationally so as ever we are both happy & honoured to host this mix.

Real high quality from the off, you know you are in for a treat …very funky and very energetic, this mix covers the full soul spectrum with house, disco, boogie, soul & the odd Latin treat, for us this stands up to any of his other quality mixes available in our archive and elsewhere on the web.

We are, of course, talking about the Idjut Boys and the truly memorable party at the Brit Club in March. And now the dust has settled and semi-normal life has resumed, we can look back and safely say that THAT was one HELL of a cracking do!!

The Idjuts totally lived up to all our expectations and gave us one rollicking musical roller-coaster ride of a night – so, to Dan and Conrad; a thousand thanks!

They buzzed off the totally-up-for-it crowd and they loved the venue – as did we all! What a brilliant space for a party eh?! And if you didn’t manage to make it down, our apologies; we understand you’re probably sick to death of hearing how brilliant it was!

So, all the hard work actually paid off (just!) – but there are some special folk without whom this event might not have gone quite so smoothly and who’s help was very, VERY much appreciated.

Here’s a mix completely inspired by Terry Jones’ and Andy Davies’ saturday afternoon sessions in the connoisseurs corner at Southport.

Dedicated to the memory of General Johnson RIP.  Strictly for connoisseurs.

Following Greg Wilson and Al Kent’s stunning 12s for the label, Sheffield’s All Out War returns with ‘Dry Ice’ from label boss Solid State, (Richard Hardcastle) previously known for the ‘Product of Society’ edits, as well as earlier releases on classic House labels like Guidance, Toko, Primitive and Cookhouse Records.

A1 on the new 4-tracker sees the long-awaited vinyl release of ‘Philly Live’, a fictional recording of a nameless Bronx DJ, allegedly captured at a live hip-hop jam in 1980! The chaotic ‘re-winding’ intro and MC announcement builds to a killer Philly Disco groove, complete with spin-backs and other turntable trickery, heading to an all-out vocal climax before the virtual DJ finally mixes out and presses ‘stop’.

The original ‘Philly Live’ demo has long enjoyed gigging support on CDR from Greg Wilson, Red Rack Em (featured on his ‘Best of the Year’ radio mix), Disco Deviance boss Dicky Trisco, Cosmic Boogie (heard on his huge ‘Disco Deviance’ mix), and is a go-to party starter for Leftside Wobble (‘never left my crate in over a year – proper tune!’) and Golf Channel’s Phil South (‘Yep, it’s a hot one!’) amongst others… So grab the re-mastered vinyl edition when it finally drops.

A2 ‘Eddie’s Out’ is a radical new treatment of a funky, leftfield jazz track with off-kilter bass line and drums, wah-wah guitars and synthetic strings; already a fave of DJs like mikeBurns and Alphabet City / Black Lodge. Hot music!

AA1 ‘Spanish Heartbeat’ is a widescreen Balearic Disco epic. With the eponymous ‘heartbeat’ intro, lush strings, rampant horns and cascading flamenco guitars, this edit was another huge hit on CDR, and is considered the standout track on the EP by some DJs, including Cosmic Boogie and Croatia’s Mutant Disco Radio.

AA2 is a bonus track, reprised and remastered from AOW01: ‘If U Love Me’ – a hypnotically simple, spaced-out disco groove that rounds off the EP beautifully.

Label art comes courtesy of Million Dollar Disco’s Al Kent, based on Solid’s own vintage Marantz 1060 amplifier (c.1975).  This stunning design is the icing on the cake for the release, which has been a labour of love to assemble since ‘Philly Live’ was first demoed back in March 2009.
