Challenge:
Design a program that equally focuses on the three departments within Drexel’s Department of Performing Arts: music, theatre and dance. The layout must accommodate heavy text as well as showcase photographs. The aura of the program must be professional and sophisticated without loosing the fun and energy of youth.

Solution:
The neutral palette creates a sense of sophistication while complimenting and showcasing the vibrant photographs. The page grids establish order without being rigid supporting the theme of the performers being the main focus of the piece.

Challenge
Design a system of marks that represent the different learning groups within the Mussar community and captures the essence of Mussar: inner learning to do good in your life, your family’s life, and in your community.

Solution
The logo encompasses the Hebrew symbol for the letter “M” representing Mussar whose enlightenment is expanding outward. A color system is utilized to differentiate between the various groups within the institute: blue-the Mussar organization as a whole, green-inner learning and renewal, and purple-family growth.

Solution:
The silhouetted person gives anonymity allowing focus on the accessories and colorful shopping bags which draw the eye down to the blooming flowers giving focus to the Shops at 69th Street logos. The simple color scheme and background counterbalance the text heavy shop listing. Curling vines, the colorful butterfly and the wavy headline create a playful feel of Spring.

A limited color palette that reflects the company logo keeps the layout clean and simple while reflecting the personality of the company.
Challenge
Design an art deco influenced headline, logo and poster that reflected the comedic undertone of this play set in the 1930’s about a self-entitled opera singer.

Solution
Bold shapes of vibrant color reflect art deco architecture in a playful manner while framing the play’s positive reviews. The comedic aspect of the play is reinforced in the logo’s “hair” which is formed by a question mark due to the questionable entitlement of the main character. The headline was made to flow from the logo’s mouth as if he is belting-out the words referencing the plays operatic theme.

Challenge
Design an art deco influenced mailer that reflects the comedic undertone of this play set in the 1930’s about a self-entitled opera singer.

Solution
Bold shapes of vibrant color reflect art deco architecture in a playful manner while framing the play’s positive reviews. The comedic aspect is reinforced in the logo’s “hair” which is formed by a question mark due to the questionable entitlement of the main character. The headline flows from the logo’s mouth belting out the words referencing the plays operatic theme.

Challenge
Design a mailer that captures the awkward aura of the Bat Boy phenomenon created by sensationalistic supermarket tabloids.

Solution
The large field of red coupled with the “disturbing” photograph creates an unnerving air. The black and white photograph invokes a supermarket tabloid feel. The face gives off a diffused yellow halo creating a sense of the supernatural. Word balloons further enforce the tabloid sensibility.

Solution:
The vibrant color palette radiates energy within a solid, conservative layout. The angled bar at the bottom of each spread creates an exciting tension on the page and adds movement to the layout.

Challenge
Design a pamphlet that explains the Nigerian roots of Jojolo and the essence of “singing the story”.

Solution
The traditional Nigerian drum is showcased because it is the central instrument in “singing the story”. Rhythmic patterns of earth toned color bars create visual drumming throughout the pamphlet. The organic color palette was inspired by the owner of Jojolo who is of Nigerian decent and his desire to be close to and one with nature. The layout allows freedom for elements to flow up and down the pages mimicking intonations when singing.
