Working in an office full of hair accessories means that we’re constantly inspired to try new hairstyles and master the classics. One hairstyle we’re really loving that’s elegant and timeless is a delicate bun. We recently discovered a way to master this polished look in about 10 minutes. Yes you read that right, a chic up do in under 10 minutes! It’s called the sock bun and quite literally is just that. All you’ll need are a few simple items.

1. A sock

2. Scissors

3. Pony tail holders

4. Bobby pins

5. Hairspray

Your first step is to cut out the toe of the sock you’re going to use. Once this is done your sock should look like ours is in Step 1 above. Then you’ll need an elastic pony tail holder. Like in Step 2 you’ll gather your hair into a pony tail and secure it with your pony tail holder. Step 3 is taking your sock and placing it over your pony tail. Hold your pony tail out and pull the sock back almost off your pony tail, once this is done start rolling the sock back down toward your head with your hair around the sock. Once this is completed you’ll have a sleek and chic polished bun like in Step 4! With Step 5, secure your bun and hair with a couple spritzes of hair spray. In the case that you need to secure some extra pieces of hair use some bobby pins to do that.

Voila! An elegant look that will take you from coffee to cocktail in under 10 minutes.

Date #1

The classic date of dinner and a movie calls for something elegant and memorable. Wear something eye catching like this bright blue dress (1). We’ve paired it with a lovely pair of Christian Louboutin nude pumps (2), along with two pieces of fabulous jewelry from Alexis Bittar (5,6). For your hair, pull it back into a soft low bun (3), this way you’re able to show off your beautiful smile and those lovely earrings! To add some sparkle to your hair we’ve love our L. For a more casual date like a Sunday brunch consider wearing something comfortable. A post brunch walk in the park is always a fun idea to continue your date, so shoes that are practical for some walking are recommended. A couple weeks ago I was having a conversation with Ellen, who works on our national accounts about summer hairstyles. She brought into our office a bottle of salt spray and with that we ended up in an exciting conversation about how to perfect the beachy wave and the best way to achieve this look. From that conversation came this blog post. We’re going to give you a quick run down on how to achieve that beachy, just got out of the ocean look! You’ll just need a few simple things.

1. A salt spray, above we’ve shared a few of our favorites. Salt spray works for pretty much every hair type and will help add some volume and texture to your hair when used.

What you’ll do with the salt spray once you’ve picked out the brand you like is spray into your damp hair. Use the spray sparingly, it really doesn’t take a lot. Once you’ve sprayed your hair, cup your hands together and scrunch the ends of your hair. For drying your hair you can either air dry or use a diffuser, just depends on how much time you have to get ready.

2. Once you’ve sprayed your hair with salt spray and allowed it to dry you can use a curling wand or three barrel curling iron like you see above to add a little more texture to your hair. Depending on how wavy you want your hair you may skip this step. These are also great to use the next day when you’re wanting to maintain your lovely waves.

“Did you see her board? I would totally re-pin that.” words spoken in our office as of late. Here at The Finest Accessories we’re inspired by and a little taken with Pinterest. Actually a little is probably a really soft way of saying we’re really, really enthusiastic about the website that allows us to curate boards with beautiful pictures of things that we love. This week our excitement was spurred by the color robin’s egg blue. We’d noticed various people pinning pictures of shoes, nail polish and other objects in this cool tone.

A color like this blue is light and feminine and if you ask us an ideal color to accent any outfit. A color like this as stylish and easy going as it is can also be paired with a variety of colors, bright pinks, a fun green or a happy yellow. When sectioning off your hair you can grab and curl small or large pieces of your hair, it’s really up to you! By finishing off your look with some hairspray you’ll be able to hold onto those girls all day long.

This weekend, the artsy crowd, music fans and fashionistas alike will converge in the desert for the epic festival that is Coachella. While I had the most memorable weekend full of music, friends, food and the famous ferris wheel, I distinctly remember how hard it was to stay cool and stylish in the scorching temps.

If you’re heading down to Coachella – or any fair or festival – here are a few tips to prep for a fun and memorable trip:

Stay hydrated!

1. Miir bottle

Drink a lot of water. I cannot stress this enough. When you’ve got a full day of back-to-back shows by your favorite artists, the last thing you want to do is be carted away by the paramedics for dehydration.

Dress smart

5. Light jacket or sweater

6. Sunscreen

7. Cross-body bag

In the desert, it’ll be scorching hot until the sun sets, then the temperature will drop significantly. You’ll definitely want to stick to light layers. Think casual but chic – bohemian, rock star, hipster and hippie are all welcome at Coachella. Bandeau tops, denim shorts, big sunnies, cross-body bags, cute swimwear, sleek headbands, maxi dresses and flowy button-down shirts or cardigans should be included in your luggage.

Keep in touch

Phone service can be spotty, so if you’re with a group of friends and want to split up to different shows, figure out a way to keep in touch. Establish a specific meeting place to meet whenever you need to. We used the mobile app GroupMe to contact each other on the grounds. Oh – and bring your phone charger!

You are most likely going to see a few of your favorite musicians and artists – but Coachella has one of the biggest lineups and attendance of any festival in the world. Branch out and check out shows of bands you’ve never heard of, or haven’t listened to yet. Make new friends while in line for food (or the bathroom.) Try some new food at the massive food truck court. And make sure to ride that ferris wheel for a view of the festival that you’ll never forget!
