I had some soup left over from yesterday. So I knew I would blend my days food choices from the plan I first came up with. I also started a day late for the plan. I should have started the first day of the Ease-In on Sunday. My objective with the timing is to have a full 10 day cleanse that begins and ends at ideal times. So, like my approach to the Lemonade Diet (and life in general), is to be sensibly flexible. Plus there is really no rules to the Ease-In.

The soup, a day later wasn’t bad. Once I finished that I began to plan my assault on the remaining fruits and veggies in my fridge and on my counter. I figure I would juice 4 times, with lots of water in between. As I write this I have juiced 3 times and have my last remaining foods. Let me end this post by sharing my juice recipes from today:

Ease-In Juice Recipe 1

4 Tomatoes

1 Apple

1/2 Cucumber

2 Kiwis

Ease-In Juice Recipe 1

1 Large bunch of Broccoli including stems

1/4 head of Cauliflower

1 small tomoto

Ease-In Juice Recipe 3

1 Bag of pre-washed Spinach

1/2 Cucumber

5 stalks of Celery

1 Kiwi

1 Apple

Ease-In Juice Recipe 4

3 Oranges

1 Apple

1 Grapefruit

1 Avacado - Technically not juicable, but I will blend it with the rest.

Yesterday I read a comment about the Ease-In that struck me as interesting at the time, and later would seem even more relevant.

I came up with the Ease-In because I wanted to stretch out the benefits of eating well (less, and no bad foods), over 2 weeks for a 10 day cleanse. And thought I still feel the concept is sound, last night I was dreading both the Ease-In and the cleanse.

I admit, I have contemplated not sharing this faltering confidence, but since everyone shares so deeply how they are feeling, I thought I had better as well. Perhaps it is the semi-constant stress I have been feeling lately, or just the standard anxiety of staring down the barrel of 2 weeks of self-control. I have a lot of work to do on my outlook on certain things, for example my health.

I would like to describe myself as healthy, and would prefer not to as a hypochondriac. I do look at my health as a proactive responsibility. When something is bothering me about my health, I want answers, and frankly I think I deserve them. As do you.

The health system in my country blows. It is so ass-backwards, and especially slow to recognize and implement obvious strategies to anyone who has every had some kind of health concern while doing battle with the lethargic and irrelevant status quo of modern medicine.

I won’t go into the details of the nature of my concerns here in this post, but I might in another. Nor will I steal too much more from the topic of juicing and soups of the second day of the Ease-In. I mention it to get a quick venting session, and to give context to my day.

I planned for 3 types of eating today: Snacks to get me by until I could make and eat some soup. And a salad in the evening.

My menu for today included

Snacks for Master Cleanse Ease-In

1 - Whole grain bun
Organic peanut butter
1 avocado
2 tomatoes
black berries

Lunch

Veggie Soup

This was only the second time I have tried to make a vegetable soup. The first time was on the Ease-out from Fall 2008. It didn’t turn our great. The veggies were soggie, but the broth was ok tasting. It was mostly onion and mushroom base.

Since that time I have made a few soups with my grandma and my girlfriend who cooks like a grandma. I think I have the process down, but as they say, practice makes better, and since I haven’t practiced much, I suppose I was asking too much of myself to expect much more than a moderate improvement from the last time.

I went shopping on an empty stomach and coming off a weekend of fast food so I was craving everything I saw. I probably bought too much, but I will just juice it tomorrow if there is too much left over.

Vegetable Soup Ingredients for my Master Cleanse

1 large onion
1/2 small red cabbage
4 small beats
3 sticks of celery
4 small red potatoes
2 wedges of garlic
6 large Brussels sprouts

Cumin
All Spice
Garlic Powder
Flaked Onion

I started out by sautéing the onion in the pot with olive oil. I soon noticed that I didn’t have enough olive oil for my onion –or did I have too much onion for my olive oil. Then I realized even quicker that I have no ideas on quantities so I quickly proceeded anyway –the onion was cooking and the clock was ticking, and after all I was hungry.

I found more oil, but not until after I added some chopped red cabbage to the sauté. I added some cumin and all spice to the growing base, which was cooking faster than I had next ingredients for, so I don’t know, maybe add water now? That decision held together my first 2 critical mistakes, the first being the over done onion and cabbage saute.

So I have a large soup pot. Too large maybe, but certainly large enough that I decided to add more water than probably was necessary (mistake number 2). Now that the water was in, I decided my next ingredient would be the beats. My Grandma always says that to make a borsch just add beats. While I wasn’t make a Borsch, I was adding beats, so maybe I was making one by Grandma’s standard.

Having recently loosely contributed to my girls first attempt at Borsch (by that I mean I watched and ate), I learned by osmosis that the beats take forever to cook. I would later google some advice on this, but not until my potatoes where soggy — oh know, I gave away the consequence of mistake number 3– I didn’t cook the beats long enough or early enough, or separate enough, or whatever enough.

At this point my bed (soup), was made and know all I could do is scramble to the finish to try to salvage a soup. Grandma also says throw whatever you got to make it work out. So I started grabbing more salt (the base was weak from too much water), more spice, and onion flakes. Finally I caved and added a can of pre-made lentil soup. It was organic and only pure ingredients so I am happy with the additives to my fresh soup. That looked like it helped a little.

Well, it did, but only a little. I ate 2 bowls and my Uncle had 1. It’s ok, but certainly not great. I learned some good lessons and looking forward to the Ease-Out.

I had planned to make a salad today, but it is late and I am tired. I am going to pass on the salad and juice like a mad man tomorrow. That soup did me in. Guess I will have another bowl.

Salad

Postponed due to soupiness.

For me, the Ease-In process came to be for a couple reasons. Primarily, I needed some time to prepare physically and psychologically for the challenge ahead. But Second, I needed some time to gather the materials and ingredients for the two weeks ahead.

I also created the Ease-In strategy to Book-end the Lemonade Diet and Ease-Out to a perfect 2 weeks which starts on a Monday and ends on a Sunday. Because the Lemonade Diet doesn’t start until the Thursday, you are quickly into your first weekend. We all know from working that weekends go quickly, and since this is your first weekend of your cleanse –one that doesn’t include eating or drink like weekends usually do– you want this weekend to go by quickly. Next thing you know you are well on your way to the finish line (next weekend). All you have to do is get through 1 full work week and you are basically done. The Ease-Out allows for a let up from the psychological discipline you have been holding to for 10 days. When the Friday rolls around and it is time for the orange juice, you are feeling great about preparing meals, although very simple ones, during the weekend.

The Ease-In process has also helped me while I began work on this blog. When I first started this blog I did so for 2 reasons. I wanted to share with people the process, and my experience of the Master Cleanse. That was 2.5 years ago. I put up a few pages of how I did the cleanse and that was about it. At the time I was working full time, and I had been made aware of people earning income from blogging. I knew I wanted to write and produce information products such as books, music and film, and so I realized that blogging would be an interesting experiment which was directly related to my ambitions.

Since that time this blog has grown substantially to become one of the leading resources online for people who search for information on the experience of The Master Cleanse. During that time I have cleansed along with my readers while building the blog and learning lessons on both cleansing and blogging. So during the Ease-In, I am able to also prepare my approach to blogging about My Master Cleanse Experience.

I don’t like to cleanse to often. You may want to explore your own desired Cleansing Frequency. For me, I like to cleanse every 9 months. 6 months seems to short of an interval, and 1 year seems to long. As I developed this blog, I have fallen into the scheduled times around Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall that happen to perfectly coincide with major holidays and for some, resolutions to end the binges they have just concluded. Therefore, I didn’t cleanse the last two times (Winter 2009 and Spring 2009). I am, however cleansing with you this time.

As I sit here typing, it is 11 AM in Saskatchewan. I am home for the summer months and will be cleansing at the lake. I am hungry because I haven’t prepared my meals for the day, and I am waiting to head out on the town and collect my required goods for both the blogging and the cleansing.

And so my Ease-In Day 1 has become filled with preparation for this cleanse. Not only am I going out to get my produce –lemons and maple syrup for the cleanse (I have my cayenne and sea salt), veggies for my soups, salads and juices, but I am also going out to get Juicers, water bottles for lemonade, juices and Pure Water, water purifiers and more, so that I can blog and cleanse in a meaningful way.

During the next 2 weeks I am hoping to focus almost entirely on this cleanse, and this blog. I will be asking for feedback in some cases, and making changes to features and content structure. Hopefully it will make for an overall better process, now and in the future. I will also be frequently commenting and asking questions to go along with the planned daily Twitter Q and A to be held every day at 6 PM EST. For 15 minutes I will be online at twitter to chat and answer questions. As ever, it is not about me but my experience –actually, our experience; the experience of every average person who dares to research and experiment with alternative lifestyles. It is our comments and support that allows other to realize their own truth through all the hype and marketing of the world surrounding flash-point topics like health and wellness.

So for me today, this Ease-In process is just about just a little more than preparing my food and my mind for the cleanse. But of course, I need to remember, it is still also about that too… I am hungry now, I should go and prepare. I am looking forward to yet another great experience and the lessons that come with it.

I have decided to keep registration for MCGE Summer 2009 open during the Ease in process. Many people do not do the Ease-In, and that is OK, but it didn’t make sense to end registration for those who choose not to do the Ease-In.

So Registration will now close Wednesday July 8th at 12 AM PST. The Lemonade Diet will begin the next day.

For everyone doing the Ease-In, please feel free to begin to post your comments and questions on the appropriate pages. I am creating pages for each day of the cleanse, as well as for each topic so have a look out for those new pages.

Good luck everyone.

The is often confusion about the Master Cleanse recipe. A first time Master Cleanser Recipe might not be the same as a 10 time Master Cleanser Recipe –just like a first time skydiver might not follow the same routine as a 10 time or skydiver. Experience allows for alternatives.

Many people view the Master Cleanse Recipe as gospel. They read the book The Master Cleanse by Stanley Burroughs and hold true every syllable, and worship every measurement. That’s OK, and ever advised, especially for the rookie; the newbie.

But for the experience Master Cleanser, the recipe can, and even should vary. So below I will list the Master Cleanser Recipe for the both the rookie and the veteran –you just need to decide which type of master cleanser you are? Are you a rookie cleanser or a Master Cleanser?

The Rookie Master Cleanser Recipe

Use this Master Cleanser Recipe if you have never tried the Master Cleanse before or are unsure why each ingredient in the master cleanse recipe is included. This is the Master Cleanse recipe verbatim (word for word) by the creator, Stanley Burroughs.

2 Tablespoons lemon or limejuice (approx. ½ lemon)

2 Tablespoons genuine maple syrup (Not maple flavored sugar syrup)

1/10 Teaspoon cayenne pepper (red pepper) or to taste

8 oz water, room temperature

Combine the juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper in a 10 oz glass jar w/lid and fill with the water.
Shake it up and drink. (Cold water may be used if preferred.)
Use fresh (organic) lemons or limes only, never canned lemon or limejuice nor frozen lemonade or
frozen juice.

The Alterations to the Master Cleanser Recipe

10 oz. Fresh sugar can juice (medium hot or cold)

2 Tablespoons fresh lime or lemon juice

1/10 teaspoon cayenne (red pepper) or to taste

Another possible but lesser replacement could be pure sorghum. (Do not use for Diabetes). It does not
produce equal or close to the benefits of maple syrup.

The Master Cleanser Recipe

Follow this Master Cleanser Recipe if you have some experience with the master cleanse and understand why you might adjust some of the ingredients in the recipe.

Less-than or More-than 2 Tablespoons lemon or limejuice (approx. ½ lemon) - Depending on how much weight you need to loose. Be careful not to move too low. If you need more energy, add more.

Hey everyone,

Sorry for the delay with the awards. There were a lot of comments to go through.

Just a reminder of the prizes available

Everyone who registered, or followed us on Twitter was entered to win $50

Everyone who made a comment over 100 words was entered to win $75. Each comment is a separate entry.

Anyone who commented everyday on every topic and over 100 words would be entered to win $100

I decided, for the sake of transparency and authenticity, that we should require winners to claim their prizes by adding a comment to this stream.

Further, I would like to invite each prize winner to provide a guest post on any topic of their choice, but still related to the MCGE. This is an opportunity for the winners to promote their own ideas or websites in a way that would benefit themselves and our participants.

So the winners are:

$50 - Ms. N

$75 - Joi

$100 - No one. There was only 1 contestant who seemed to qualify, and that was Kristen. I have realized that there are 2 Kristens. One was a finalist for MCGE Winter 2009. The Kristen from this event is different. Upon review there she just missed qualifying by a few posts on a few days. But thanks so much for the effort. Kristen, if you feel I made an error and you did indeed qualify by posting every day, on every topic, in every category and over 100 words, then you would indeed qualify and I will re-evaluate.

I will send emails to each Joi, Ms. N and Kristen inviting them to claim their prize on this page.

Please note that I have still a few bugs. Once registered with the email support, you are not automatically registered with the website. In order to have your comments listed like Joi’s comments are listed you need to be registered at the website. I will try to work that out for the next event which begins Monday July 6th, 2009. It is the Master Cleanse Group Experience Summer 2009 and is the first Monday following North America’s summer long weekends. Registration will open 1 month before.

Thanks again everyone for another great event.

Mike

Hey everyone,

Congrats on making it through the Master Cleanse Group Experience - Spring 2009.

It was another successful journey together with lots of great support giving by everyone.

I will be making the draws after I have done some preliminary work to prepare.

Here are a few stats on MCGE.09.04.13

We had a total of 309 people register for the master cleanse group support.

333 People are following us on Twitter.

There were 757 Comments in total that accumulated almost 100,000 words of support. Congrats! That is an average of 120 words per comment.

There were 3 prizes available

Everyone who registered, or followed us on Twitter was entered to win $50

Everyone who made a comment over 100 words was entered to win $75. Each comment is a separate entry.

Anyone who commented everyday on every topic and over 100 words would be entered to win $100

So you might see now that I have some work to do to make sure everyone is entered correctly.

The first one is easy enough. But the next two take some analysis. For the grand prize, I will have to select finalist. The first MCGE1, there were 4 finalists.

In order to be a finalist, you would have had to post each day (16 days) on 5 Topics = 80 comments.

Here I go to check the stats. I will post Monday with the results
