Elizabeth Morrison adds to her ever-growing collections and creations of lovely niche fragrances with three new scents from her Theme Fragrance line. Each one is uniquely autumnal and charming in its own way: There’s Mixed Metaphor, a brisk, frolicsome affair of orange effervescence that finishes with a powdery soft, amber-y embrace (warning: hide it from your man, as he may love it on himself as much as on you); Night Owl, a wearable weave of smoke and incense layered with notes of firewood, sandalwood, and resins, and Come Undone, a spicy “free spirit of perfume for wood nymphs and urban gypsies,” warmed with clove, resins, and woods. Though spicy, it’s also soft, and edged with honeyed-sweetness – a gentle gypsy, if you will. It could happen to Theme Fragrance creator, Elizabeth Morrison. This former full-time photographer sees herself as “an artist who creates with fragrance and visuals.” She wishes the celebrity fragrance trend would just go away, and also thinks “men should not be stuck with vetiver.” Like the Constantines, Morrison is in favor of a more personal approach to fragrance. She is also a foodie, and explains, “Being a foodie plays a big part of how I work – scents and flavors are all entwined.” She also finds inspiration from her world travels, as well as from her own Brooklyn backyard, where she cultivates flowers and bamboo.
Quirky, portable, and utterly adorable, Theme’s little roll-on oils have big personality. Amuse and paisley too, are delicious gourmand creations, arriving chic and tassel-topped (hey oil…nice hat!). Amuse is a light-hearted confection of strawberry and vanilla that’s sweet, but not cloying – it lingers ultimately as a creamy, musky floral. Paisley too is a decadent chocolate-amber-patchouli delight (no, it’s not polite to nibble on your own arm while in public). Equally delicious are the sumptuous poette, a concoction of purple fig and berries that evokes a jewel-toned autumn; and the sparkling ayja, an effervescent floral with hints of spice and a slightly creamy edge. Prefer strolling on the wilder side? There’s olala, where ylang meets with resins and mingles with patchouli to make for one sexy, moody, and slightly naughty temptress. Let's talk about Paisley Too and why I created it.

Large perfume companies don't have the luxury of making quirky scents.

They mass market, well let's face it to the masses.

Trying to find a common denominator equals perfumes that all smell alike.

Paisley Too-an experiment in fragrance. Chocolate no doubt, but if YOU know perfumes you also

know that the dry down comes with some patchouli to balance out the chocolate notes.

Repeat-Chocolate -Patchouli haze, Patchouli -chocolate haze.

Like Vanilla? Well this is for Chocolate people and Patchouli lovers.

(Just as there are cat people and there are dog people.)

It's cool, it's different and it is not for everybody. You can't be a fragrance wimp to try it,

and you have to know how to test a fragrance.

I like it. It's different. Why not.

There are some people do not understand fragrances besides those sold in department stores, there are THOSE persons willing to extend their fragrance boundaries and go where their nose has not gone before. If you are not willing to go outside traditional fragrance boundaries, then the exploration into indie/artisan products may not be for you-

but I will say if you do try, there are some wonderful things in store for you.

And so the moral of the story is it's better to be creative and live wildly, wear wildly, than to be boring and staid. Amen.
