Our kids growing up (such a wonderfully sad thing!) This year, with all kids doing virtual learning and 2 parents working full-time at home, we had to set some goals to help this house function.

This stressed mom was at her wits end. We were living in a hotel because of our home experienced a flood of the toilet kind, making our home unlivable.

As if that wasn’t enough, my husband was a week away from going thru colon removal surgery. All is well now, but I have been meaning to blog about this Valentine’s card box – as you can see – mama has been busy with life.

So a mom on a mission, who was loaded with guilt – did her best to make her son a holder for cards that resembled a Pete the Cat Valentine’s box.

As I was searching for a box for the Valentine’s cards to be held in, I learned that the task called for a BAG! Okay, actually this was so much easier. This project all starts with a medium blue gift bag.

I made a frantic rush to Walmart and this is what I came up with.

Not bad, especially when you are crafting in a hotel room with all of your typical craft supplies – SOMEWHERE in your house. Fortunately, I found a few of the crafty things at the house and was able to bring this little bag to the hotel. It’s laughable… NOW.

I should note, that my Zeke LOVED his Pete the Cat bag! It worked out perfect, held up well!

So in order to calm some of the chaos without changing who I am… I can’t change that, sorry folks. I decided to knock what I can out with simple hacks.

So for virtual schooling, something that we’ve struggled with is getting the kids to understand the school’s online calendar, which is also their task list. It’s just not intuitive or kid friendly.

I couldn’t find anything online that I liked and Target and Amazon failed me — soooo…. I just created my own. And it’s working!

7 days represented, with tasks to do on Monday thru Friday. There’s a space for putting chores/sports/etc. We’ve been sitting down on Sunday nights to do this. I include everything that is going on that pertains to them. This is really helpful for them kids to see the whole week at a glance.

My son tapes his on the wall next to him, so he always knows what’s up.  I really wish the virtual school had a planner that they provided, but this works! Even digital me, who likes to do all the things digitally – likes having things written down for me to see as I am working.

For a few years there, Pete was pretty much a member of our family! Even though our boys are now 8 and 9-years-old, I’ll catch them reading a Pete book or that blue cat doll will be tucked into bed with one of them. 

Every night, it was all about Pete. We had a stray barn cat, guess what my kid named him? Yep, Pete.

When I asked my kid about what he did at school, it was all about Pete.

We had the same night night song since this kid was born – nope, the boys wanted Pete Walking in my Shoes. I thought maybe he mean these boots are made for walking, nope. He started blurting out “I’m walking in my shoes. I’m rocking in my shoes.” It got so bad that they even learned that they could have Alexa play the Pete songs.

When iFly Indoor Skydiving invited the family to  try the new How to Train Your Dragon Virtual Reality experience, I jumped at the chance. *Punny, right?* My husband and I took our 9-year-old Izaiah to see what this whole skydiving virtual reality thing was about. Let’s just say, wow.

iFly Indoor Skydiving Review

Ever wonder what this whole indoor skydiving thing is about? Here is our iFly Indoor Skydiving review. All opinions are my own and hopefully this will help prep you for your flying experience. 

Getting Started

First things first, you will need to schedule a time for your “jump.” Visit iFlyworld.com and find indoor skydiving near you.

We scheduled a spot at our local iFly location in Frisco, TX.

Arrival

When we arrived, the process was super simple to get started. There was a form to fill out on the touch screen monitor and then next thing you know, we were directed to head upstairs for training. 

Indoor Skydiving Class

Before experiencing iFly indoor skydiving, there are a few things that you need to do including an indoor skydiving class. An instructor, who will be with you in the wind tunnel – will give you the full run down on the indoor skydiving experience.

From how to position your body, to several hand signals – this prep class will help make sure you have the best flying experience. 

Prepping to Jump

After class, the instructor preps you for your jump. And by jump, I totally mean – jump into the wind tunnel in which you will “skydive” in. There are a few things that you have to have fitted before you make your way into the wind tunnel. 

Jump Suit

The skydiving instructor will make sure that you are fitted into the proper jump suit. The suit is a bit baggy and features handles to help the instructor guide your fly. 

Helmet

The helmet will help keep your noggin safe. 

Virtual Reality Headset

Since we did the How to Train Your Dragon virtual reality package – we were fitted for a virtual reality headset. 

Ear Plugs

Something I didn’t think about was the noise of a wind tunnel. The wind tunnel is LOUD! Your instructor will give you a pair of ear plugs to reduce the noise. This is why they teach your hand signals in class, you can’t hear anything inside of the wind tunnel!

Let’s Indoor Skydive!

After the training at the indoor skydiving class, the fitting of the suit, helmet and VR set and placing of the ear plugs – you are just about ready to indoor skydive!

Our instructor led us to the wind tunnel area to start our flight experience. Just outside the actual wind tunnel – is a bench area for waiting. You will wait your turn, and before you know it – it will be you in the wind tunnel. 

The iFly package that you purchase will determine your flight experience. Our package included 3 flights, including a high-fly and virtual reality experience. 

Standard Flights

Our first flight was a getting to know you type experience. The instructor will have you raise your hands and think trust fall – but fall forward into the wind tunnel. The wind tunnel will propel you into flight with the guidance of your indoor skydiving instructor. 

Your arms will be straight out with a slight bend. Your legs will be straight out, slightly relaxed and split apart. You want to remain still and watch for the instructor’s directions. 

60 Seconds Per Flight

We had 3 flights. Each indoor skydiving flight is 60 seconds. There is a monitor featuring a counter to let you and your instructor know how much time you have remaining in your flight. While 60 seconds may not seem like a long time – in the wind tunnel it feels much longer.

Fly High

For an additional fee, you can fly high with the instructor. We did this on our second jump. This feature the indoor skydiving instructor flying you up high in the wind tunnel and doing a circle in the air. Our instructor took us up a few times each, it was a surreal experience – for sure. 

Virtual Reality

On our last flight, my son and husband tried out the indoor skydiving virtual reality option.

How to Train Your Dragon Virtual Reality Indoor Skydiving Experience

New this year, is the How to Train Your Dragon virtual reality experience. You will put on a virtual reality headset before you jump into the wind tunnel. Once in the wind tunnel, the instructor is shown what you are seeing on a monitor. She or he will then help guide your experience so that you feel like you are flying in the virtual reality realm. Talk about an immersive experience. My son has not stopped talking about his iFly experience.
