Introducing The Monkey Box - The Series!

If you've been following us on Facebook, Twitter, or here in our blog postings (which, yes, are terribly infrequent, but we're gonna try to get better), you know all about the show we've developed for televsion. Today we're announcing we're also releasing a web series based on the same characters & concepts.

The web series will act as a tie-in and companion to the television show. It's more insights into what it takes to make internet video magic when you're six people whose grip on reality is tenuous at best. Plus, since it's on the web, it'll have all the swearing and naughty stuff you can't do on the TV. It's a deeper look into that thing that we know better than anything - ourselves.

The prelude & trailer is up and running as of this writing on YouTube, our webpage, and a handful of other video services, and the first webisode is just hours away from launching. With any luck, we'll be putting out new chapters every week.

We've also got a lot of new people coming to check us out. So welcome aboard, and we're glad join us on this bold new direction for your friends at THE MONKEY BOX.

Hello there Monkey Box Nation,

We're just the worst blog updaters ever, aren't we?

Here's the latest news:

• Like we mentioned in our last update, we worked on something special the second half of last year. It's no secret anymore: we made a pilot for a TV show. We had a special screening in March which went like gangbusters. There was over 200 people, tons of "industry" (which is code for "people who expect their drinks to be paid for"), and the usual gang of deviants and ne're do wells. We've been taking meetings all over Hollywoodland and are getting ready to move into the next phase of development. Exciting stuff.

• We're about to shoot a whole new bunch of shorts for the internet. Yeah, I know I said that in January, but this time I mean it. Got scripts and everything. Sorta.

• One of the great changes over at Facebook has been the addition of what they call Pages. We put one up just today, so come on by and check us out. There's behind-the-scene pictures and we're hopefully going to develop it into a nice little community of rabid Monkey Box aficionados. Hey Monkey Box Army,

It's been a wild few months for The Monkey Box, and we wanted to get you all caught up.

First off, we shot something quite spectacular in late 2008. We can't talk too much about it right now but let's just say that we've taken some serious steps for everyone who's ever told us "you guys should be on TV." More news on that soon.

Hopefully you all caught our own Bob Levitan on According To Jim and Without A Trace, as well as John D. Williams in his recurring role on Mad Men. Congrats to both of them on some good work there.

We've been cooking up a whole new batch of shorts for the intertubes, which we'll hopefully be shooting real soon now in one of our legendary "you guys are fucking crazy" marathon weekends. In the meantime, we've been trying to shoot some one-offs here and there just to keep the rabid masses satiated. Down rabid masses, down.

Lastly, we've been getting a lot of request to somehow resurrect our old audio material from the golden age of podcasting. TMB was once the most popular sketch comedy podcast in existence, and there's a lot of good material out there, including some primordial versions of some of our most popular video bits. With any luck, we'll figure out a good format to bring some of that stuff out of the vault some time this spring.
