Beyond the ginat robots and giant monsters, Guillermo Del Toro is playing around with some big ideas in Pacific Rim. One of these is 'The Drift', the method in which the pilots control the Jaegers. The below video is quite interesting, with Del Toro and some of the cast explaining the concept. Main villain revealed for Guardians of the Galaxy?

Up until now, Marvel Studios have been content to stay in and around Earth, but they are heading to the far reaches of space with probably their biggest gamble so far, James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy. Pre-production has been gearing up on the movie for some time now, with a lot of speculation on who the villain will be. Lee Pace, my favorite 'that guy actor', has been cast to menace the team, consisting of Starlord (Chris Pratt), Drax (Dave Bautista), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), and non humanoid members Rocket Racoon and Groot (no word on how they are being brought to life yet, with everything from puppetry, CGI, and even using a real racoon being thrown about) but his identity is been kept quiet at the moment. This is the 4th trailer for The Lone Ranger, and while it doesn’t show a whole lot of new footage (the bridge is the obvious new piece) it still is promising to deliver a big bag of fun! This is a story that joins two of our favourite worlds. Movies and video games. As you all know by now, Microsoft have unveiled the Xbox One today. My own first thoughts are great system, good integration with all things to do with TV and movies, but the games are leaving me a little underwhelmed. But, Microsoft have fired a major shot over the Sony bow (and they knocked them the fuck out with this presentation compared to the PS4 one) by getting Steven Speilberg on board to executive produce a live action series based on the Halo series for Xbox One. The involvement of Spielberg is unknown at this point, but I can’t imagine it being much with the exec producer title. Regardless, he’ll get a few quid for it but more importantly Microsoft have HUGE bragging rights now with the biggest movie director in history on board!

Hugh Jackman is popping his claws once again in this summers the Wolverine, and a new trailer has dropped showing us plenty of ninja, samurai, and mutant action. I think this is the best trailer yet, some good action sequences in there and I especially like the start with Famke Janssen returning as Jean Grey, but it still isn't exactly blowing me away. Also, touching on somehing I ranted about in an earlier post about the Viper character poster, it seems they have changed her character from the comics and made her an actual snake woman. Forked tongue, shedding skin, the whole shebang. Synopsis: Based on the celebrated comic book arc, “The Wolverine” finds Logan (Hugh Jackman), the eternal warrior and outsider, in Japan. Three new posters for The Man Of Steel have dropped, courtesy of Warner Bros., featuring Superman (proving Henry Cavill has the heroic look down), Micheal Shannon's menacing Zod, and a bad ass, gun toting Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Superman's birth father. As awesome as all the posters and footage for the movie that has been released lately is, it is just making the wait even longer. I'm seriously thinking of just hibernating till June 14th! New The Wolverine character posters

Representing where the movie is set, James Mangold's The Wolverine has had a nice line in arty, Japanese style character posters, featuring Wolverine and The Silver Samurai. Now Fox have unveiled two more posters in the series, this time focusing on Yukio (Rila Fukushima) and Viper (Svetlana Khodchenkova). Same as the other two, they are really cool images, and I like that the promo campaign is doing something different, but, and this is speaking purely as a grumpy comic book fan, I don't like how literal the Viper poster is, giving her a forked tongue. Unless something changes drastically in the movie, she is not a snake woman, and I think using green, the colour the character is most associated with (and the colour of Khodchenkova's costume in the movie), ink instead would have been a better way to represent her. Fast and Furious 6 Review

Leaving the cinema after watching The Fast and The Furious, based on a magazine article about street racing, way back in 2001, I never thought it would get a sequel, let alone five. But here we are with Fast and Furious 6, director Justin Lin's swansong after helming every installment since the third, Tokyo Drift (in some strange chronology, every movie since then actually takes place before it). He was also responsible for taking the series away from its street racer roots and moving it into action movie territory. Under his guidance, they have become ridiculous movies that revel in their ridiculousness. To apply an ounce of sense and logic to them is to miss the point. They exist to satisfy that itch that only over the top action, and little else, can scratch. With exactly 12 months to the day for the release of Godzilla, Gareth Edwards has taken to youtube to shoot the breeze about his upcoming movie. At 33 seconds long, don’t expect too much, but at least Godzilla is there anyway, except you don’t see the Monster. The scene is shot in some sort of a stadium, so expect stadium carnage in the movie. I don’t know about you, and it’s the way Edwards mentions the monster, but I can’t help feeling that Godzilla is a guy in a suit, just off camera! Maybe it’s me, but I do find it rather odd that over a minute of this trailer features nothing but clips from the last 2 movies. As for the rest of it, well…it’s a bit slow. It wouldn’t entice me to see the movie, but then again, fans of the first two, need no enticement! Regardless, this does feature cocaine fed chickens! The Hangover III hits cinemas on May 24th!

Anybody who has being following Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim knows that it will have it's fair share of jaw dropping images (giant robots, giant monsters, said giant robots punching the tar out of said giant monsters and vice versa), but this one of a Kaiju skull as a museam piece has to be my favorite. Appearing on the movie official Twitter feed, it came with the caption "What envoked fear, now inspires awe". It really hammers home the scale of the movie, with the events happening globally, and shows that Del Toro's eye for monster design is second to none. Treading territory quite similar to Pitch Black, Vin Diesel returns as the anti hero who made his name with Riddick. We've seen snippets of David Twohy's long in production sci-fi sequel before, but now this full trailer gives us a better look at what to expect. We've have no indication of how this ties into Riddick's last appearance, The Chronicles of Riddick (which became bogged down with an overblown mythology), but it's good to see the character brought back to basics. Cannes Movie Stars Lounge

Here’s something a bit different, for the site at least. Cannes kicked off today and besides Nicole Kidman admitting that she loves wet weather, this arrived in my inbox! Basically, it’s the Cannes Movie Stars Lounge and it’s been installed in the Californie Suite of the Carlton Hotel. The luxurious rooms are available to actors, journalists, companies and so on. Much of the press activity will take place here for alot of the movies in competition. So check out the luxury below, and yes, it would be an absolute travesty if some let rip with a fart that would blow a hole through them fancy couches! And yes! It’s a slow day!

Here’s some good news! A new Toy Story short, Toy Story of Terror will roll onto ABC in the States (not sure where it’ll end up on this side of the pond, although I’d bet Sky Disney is where it will) this Halloween. The Toy Story crew find themselves staying in a motel after Bonnie brings them on a road trip. The end up inside the spooky motel after the car breaks down and then somebody goes missing! It sounds like fun and it’s going to be a whole 30 minutes long! With the amount of gags and injokes Pixar get into their movies, I’d imagine the motel to be a send up of the Bates motel at the very least!
