The most vocal of the Ryan dissenters is Tony Dungy. Dungy has been quoted as saying, “I would not [hire Ryan]. I personally don’t want my players to be around that. I don’t want to be around that. . . . It’s hard for me to be around that, and if I were in charge, no, I wouldn’t hire someone like that.” Fortunately for Rex Ryan, Tony Dungy is neither the owner nor general manager of the Jets.

Tony Dungy has unofficially been anointed as the moral compass of the NFL. His work with Michael Vick has been well-documented. Dungy will leave a larger legacy in life off of the field than he did on it. However in this case Dungy is out of bounds in criticizing Ryan.

Ryan needs to coach his team as he deems fit. If the ire of Commissioner Goodell or Jets owner Woody Johnson is drawn it is within their right to admonish Ryan, not Dungy’s. Dungy is free to express his opinion but this time his thoughts are based on his personal beliefs and not on football. Dungy should leave his criticisms of Ryan to how his team performs. Dungy believes that Michael Vick deserves a second chance but Rex Ryan is unhireable, fathom that.

The irony of this is that Dungy had been criticized as a coach for being too calm and too laid-back. Perhaps he could have taken a cue from “Sexy” Rexy and dropped a few f-bombs to motivate his teams. Maybe then his Colts could have won more Super Bowls if Dungy were more like Ryan? When these two men meet to discuss their ideologies, Dungy should stay true to himself as should Ryan. Who knows if either side will bend, but it will be good theatre.

Dungy will always be known for his quiet strength. Does this mean that Ryan will eventually be known for his loud weakness? What Ryan will be known for is what his Jets do or do not accomplish. If they reach the pinnacle and win the Super Bowl, Ryan will be Hard to Knock.

Broadway Joe Namath is one of the few NFL Veterans who is still relevant almost 3 decades after retiring from the game he loves. Broadway Joe was one of the first Athletes to take advantage of his new found fame and converted that into legendary fame through endorsements. My dream was to play for Georgetown and Coach Thompson in the late 80s. The epic battles and the 1984 title cemented that love for the Garden when they’d come to town every year and during the Big East Tournament. When Patrick went to the Knicks I gave them 4 years to win the title. In 1994 we were 1 possession away from winning it all, I could taste the title and see the trophy in Patrick Ewings’ hands. A missed 3 and a bad Game 7 spelled doom , A 5 game beat down to the Spurs and were going on Year 37 without a crown to wear.

I’ve seen you play football in person at SVSM back in the day when all the talk was about this kid who can play 2 sports and which 1 will he’d pick! Lebron left the Field for the Hardwood which was the first unexpected move by Lebron..

Then it was the Adidas ABCD camp in Teaneck, NJ almost a decade ago just beyond the reach of the shadows on the New York City skyline. A boy became a man in just 4 days when in that 1 on 1 match up vs Lenny Cooke you took away his heart and as we all know it was time to watch Nationally Televised games of SVSM so that we could see one of the greatest HS athletes ever destroy the competition. You were celebrated by the National Media as the “Next Coming” of the Truth!

The Patrick Ewing Era came to an end and the Knicks last attempt at a title with Spree, LJ, Pat and the rest of the crew came to a screeching halt at the hands of the Spurs. Ever since 1999 the Knicks have been off the radar and have been planning their vacations as early as 1 day after the season ends.

History repeats itself and the next big move you had to make was to declare for the draft out of high school and what sneaker company would be the best fit for you and for the King James Brand. Luckily you selected Nike who was a Dark Horse (Music Please DJ Go NY, Go NY, GO!) in the running when it seemed as if the 3 stripes which you wore exclusively in High School would be your shoe of choice.
