I am using your blog to anchor my efforts to learn more about our local nature--I'm a recent transplant from the very different environment of coastal Northern California. You're my home page and I learn something new from each of your posts. I also share them, but now that I'm retired, I've quickly lost track of the best ways to increase web traffic--my only suggestion is to keep up the meaningful content and people will find it. Finally, some of my favorite posts are your descriptions of your hikes--I'm taking care of my 94-year-old mother so I don't get out much, but I do enjoy your adventures vicariously--as well as the "Look for in [month]" posts which are really helping me understand our seasons.

Thanks for the wonderful work--please keep it up!

Margaret

My suggestion is an astonishing book from 1995: Charles E. Little's "The Dying of the Trees," which captures our impact on the natural world better than anything else I've read. The sections on our local dogwoods and the Appalachian forests almost brought tears to my eyes.
