Strung up 9 floors of triangular stairwell, hundreds of pages of old discarded books decorated the space and brought beauty to an everyday object. </p> <p><em>Untitled</em></p> <p><em>The aim of this installation is to enhance the beauty of and bring attention to the often overlooked architecture of the spaces around us. The geometric lines created by the library staircase are rarely taken in by students rushing up and down floors. By using a medium that references the function of a library, pages from books, the artists draw attention to the aesthetic beauty of pre-existing space.</em></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p>I’m so proud of Miss Olivia Gauthier, she grew up here on the West Coast and moved to New York for college. Already this little lady is holding down a full time class schedule, 3 jobs, an internship at <a href="http://www.theneonangels.com/2011/legendary-jewels/">Christie’s</a> and is excelling at all. Male fantasy to the max. He originally wanted the group to be called “<em>The Hookers”</em> which probably woulda made it harder (ummmmm) to take their sex theme mainstream in 1982. (Along with wanting lead singer Denise “Vanity” Mathews to take the stage name “Vagina”… ew dude) Their first & only self-titled album before the name change to <em>Apollonia 6</em>, gave the girls chart-topping single “<em>Nasty Girl</em>“. I recently came up on an out of print <em>Vanity 6</em> LP for a $1! The moral of the story: sex sells & it’s nothin’ new. A few years back (before the economy went down the drain) LA was booming with some pretty amazing contemporary boutiques that carried limited quantities of amazing harder to find designer pieces. Sure– price points were higher, but quality, detailing and style made it totally worth it. Sadly, since then all but a few have closed there doors, leaving us constantly looking for a new shop to fill that shopping void–enter the new era of online shopping.</p> <p>Inspired by world-wide fashion, AlleyCat exclusively carries several International lines offering choices that you won’t find at any other US boutique. I was always inspired by fashion and art in other countries and it has become more difficult to find some of my favorite designers here in the US, so that was really a basis for me starting Alleycattrade.com.</p> <p><strong>TNA</strong>: Who is your customer? What does she like?<br /> <strong>JP</strong>: My Customer has no age! She isn’t afraid to take fashion risks and she isn’t a label whore either. She a leader not a follower.</p> <p><strong>TNA</strong>: What do you look for in the lines that you carry? Do you only carry well known labels?<br /> <strong>JP</strong>: I do carry some well known labels but they aren’t everywhere, on every other fashion site or in every store. I personally choose every piece, try it on, make sure it fits well. I began this business to carry lines from other countries, especially ones that weren’t available in the US. I have some great ones on the site: Alice McCall is my absolute love!! They are from Australia and are exclusive to Alleycat, as well as Magdalena Velevska and Jacey Withers from England.</p> <p><strong>TNA</strong>: Is everything in your shop things you would wear, or do you cater to other customer styles?<br /> <strong>JP</strong>: I would pretty much wear everything, When I’m buying I always have myself, my mom, and my best friends in mind.</p> <p><strong>TNA</strong>: Do you accept appointments to view local designers lines to carry in your shop?<br /> <strong>JP</strong>: I’m always open to view new lines. I think they deserve just as much exposure as the well known ones out there.
