Who has wonderful weekend plans? I need to put the finishing touches on Matchbook’s June content today so I can spend the weekend painting my apartment. Did I mention the living room will be a pale Hamish Bowles-esque lavender? I’m rather looking forward to it! A few things I’m loving lately…

Are there certain pieces of jewelry that you have your heart set on owning someday? I have a short list of spectacular pieces I covet and on it is the Tiffany & Co. bone cuff designed by Elsa Peretti. I love the asymmetric shape and the fact it makes a bold statement while still feeling delicate. I’ve always admired the old photos of Vreeland and Chanel in their bejeweled Verdura cuffs, but the simplicity of the bone cuff seems more “me.” Time to start saving my pennies…

A glimpse of my week in New York via my instagrams (my username is simply “katiearmour” should you care to follow along…). Highlights included yummy dinners with friends in the village, the Maira Kalman exhibit at the Julie Saul Gallery, my ritual visit to John Derian’s brilliantly curated gem of a shop, a laughter filled lunch with the so-chic-it-kills-me Marissa Webb, perusing the used art books at the Strand, a viewing of Moonrise Kingdom, late night chats with my little brother and his adorable boyfriend, and so much more. My last morning I rose early and strolled up to the Met for the Prada/Schiaparelli exhibit. I don’t think anything beats a long walk, coffee in hand, watching the city wake up. Panting pups in the park, a bespectacled gentleman in a bow tie reading The Times, a curious fellow intensely power walking with his headphones…while smoking a cigar and drinking a Cherry Coke. Oh New York, you always pull me right back in.

While in New York this past week Jane and I had the pleasure of attending the Chance preview at Barneys. The new “California collection” was just as brilliant as I’d hoped — Julia Leach, the company’s creative director and founder, nailed west coast chic. I was particularly charmed by this “Saturday” beach towel and her collaboration with artist Elliott Puckette on some fabulous hand drawn striped shirts. Thanks for having us, Julia! The collection certainly won this California girl’s heart :)

Bon Appétit just published the loveliest article about how artist John Derian entertains at his Provincetown, Massachusetts home. I’ve admired the place for some time and the photos are just magical. One of his guests also happens to be the lovely Julia Leech of Chance whom I so admire. Be sure to check it out!

I took this instagram last night after I’d “put my face on” (as my Grandmother Rita says…) and had a request to share my favorite makeup products. I’m a bit of a beauty junkie so I hope I don’t bore you to tears. Let me know if this is helpful and I’ll post more makeup/skincare/beauty content! Oh and everything I know I owe to Kevyn Aucoin’s lovely book Face Forward. He made so many women feel beautiful and was a true artist. I highly recommend it.

1/ Foundation – Bare Escentuals bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation Medium Beige / I love liquid foundation as well (Make Up For Ever for full coverage, Laura Mercier for light coverage), but this stuff is so easy. Simply layer it where you’d typically use concealer.
2/ Bronzer – Benefit Hoola / A great matte bronzer. If you like a hint of shimmer try NARS Laguna, love it as well.
3/ Tweezers – Tweezerman Slant Tweezer / I’ve never had my eyebrows “done.” I just keep them tidy with these.
4/ Eyebrow Pencil – Cover Girl Browshaper & Eyeliner in Soft Brown / Have been using this since high school. As you may have gathered, I love a strong brow.
5 / Eyeshadow – bareMinerals READY Eyeshadow 4.0 in The Truth / A recent purchase — the perfect brown palette. Also love Cover Girl’s Eye Enhancer in Swiss Chocolate.
6 / Eye Liner – Cover Girl Perfect Point Pencil in Black Onyx / I also have an Armani pencil, but honestly, I can’t tell a difference.
7 / Liquid Eye Liner – Almay Liquid Liner / The waitress at our local diner has the perfect cat-eye and this is her trick. I found it at the drugstore and love the wand. Also a fan of Bobbi Brown’s gel liner.
8 / Eyelash Curler – Tweerzerman Curler / An essential step.
9 / Mascara – Stila Glamoureyes / A new favorite. Also love the tried and true Diorshow mascara.
10 / Blush – NARS Blush in Orgasm / The perfect peachy-pink. A cult classic.
11 / Highlighter – Benefit High Beam / For the inside corners of my eyes, a small dot at the top of my eyelid, my browbone, etc.
