I?m just a man. There is nothing intrinsically special about me, that makes me stand out from the crowd, except that I have Christ dwelling within me, as the hope of glory. My hope is that you, the listener, will share in my burden for the Church to take it?s place as the light of the world. It may be a bumpy ride, but my desire is that you will find, in what appears to be random ramblings, something that is challenging, thought provoking and edifying to your life. Whether you are yet to come to faith in Jesus Christ or not, my hope and prayer is that you will be provoked to challenge what you have believed to be true, and separate blind superstition, from the reality of life, which is hidden in God. Whether that superstition is one that claims that God is non-existent, a non-issue, or one that has set up a pale counterfeit constructed to merely appease your conscience, by sanctioning and allowing your sin, may that ?image? be replaced with the Living God, in all His splendour and majesty.</feedburner:browserFriendly><item>

Edgar Parkyns
Foreward By Aaron Ireland
Many years have passed since I first heard this allegory. I don’t know if I would classify myself as a “historicist“, per se, but this made so much sense to me at the time. Although the idea of a pretribulation rapture can be quite a soothing one, at the same time, it feels awfully neglectful. Those who have read my article The Cleansing of the Sanctuary, have already been influenced, in some measure, to my eschatological views. Here is presented a logical allegory to contradict the popular pretribulational rapture theory, while even presenting a commentary on the reason for its very existence.
Enjoy.
Introduction By Rick Porritt
Many and varied are the interpretations of the Book of Revelation. Some would admit to not really understanding the meaning and purpose of this book at all, whilst others will state with confidence that thus and thus is unquestionably the message and interpretation thereof. It is not at all my intention to enter into debate on this subject here, I would though like to share with you this delightful allegorical story, which when I first heard it was a great blessing to me.
This story has been told in the context of teaching what is known as the Historic Interpretation of the Book of Revelation (as with other interpretations there are doubtless several variations on this theme). One element that is of informative interest in this allegory is the mention of the origins of two other perspectives that have been offered as interpretations of the Book of Revelation. It may be helpful if I just mention in advance the names connected with these views, and what those views are.
Luis De Alcazar, (1554-1613) of Seville, Spain – taught that all the events of the Book of Revelation occurred in the first century A.D. In other words, it essentially has nothing to teach us today. This view is known as preterism. So far as I know there are few who still hold to this belief today (?).
Francisco Ribera (1537-1591) of Salamanca (also in Spain) – taught that the central events of the Book of Revelation were all yet to come. Such happenings would take place during a special seven-year period after the ‘rapture’ of the Church. This view is known as futurism.
It was my personal experience for some years into my Christian life that the only view I ever heard of (from books, tapes and conversations with other Christians) was the futurist view. Many are the variants on this theme including: pre, mid and post tribulation rapture etc. It was only in listening to some tapes on the subject of Church history (by Edgar Parkyns) that I came across the historic teaching on Revelation.
If preterism says that it is all done, and futurism says it is all to come, then historicism says: It started to happen from the time that the Book of Revelation was first written, it has continued to happen throughout the Church’s history, it is still happening now, and (finally!) it will continue to happen until Jesus returns – (and some parts glimpse beyond that to!). In other words (I quote Mr Parkyns from memory) – “Revelation is a love-letter written to The Church, for The Church, concerning The Church.”
I have no wish to argue, battle or cajole on this subject. I only hope that if you are unaware of the historical understanding of this Book that this following piece may give you some feel for it. If you are someone who is already determinedly futurist in your outlook then maybe, just maybe, you are yet unaware of the origins and reasons for why this interpretation was first taught. This narrative alludes to those origins. Either way I do hope that all will appreciate the simple picture that this story illustrates. It has been transcribed from tape.

Some reflections on the controversial Tent of Shem message and Israel’s final destiny.  A transcription of a spoken message by the same title.
These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever He goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb (Revelation 14:4 KJV).
The Lord is looking for a virginal first-fruits company that will follow the Lamb withersoever He goes, and in these last days, this ‘withersoever’ is going to bring us to places we never could have imagined and where we ourselves would balk, like Peter when he said, “Let this be far from You, Lord.”  This is a statement of such remarkable generosity and breadth of the spirit of compassion for his Master that it would have obtained for Peter the ‘Man of the Year’ award; yet, it would have impeded the Cross.  John the Baptist, of whom Jesus said, “There is no greater,” and, “I have need to be baptized of You,” had to be persuaded to demonstrate the “withersoever” of Jesus, by baptizing the One who patently had no need of repentance, that they might fulfill all righteousness.
This “withersoever” is so remarkable that it requires of that virginal company an abandoning to the uttermost in order to follow Him.  Today’s selection in Oswald Chambers’ My Utmost for His Highest considers that very question, “Have I ever yielded in absolute submission to Jesus Christ?”  We would instantly answer “Of course.  We have always been yielded.”  However, there is an absolute and an ultimate abandonment that is total, which few of us know, but to which the Lord is calling all of us in such an hour as this.
When you look up the word ‘abandon’ in a dictionary, you find surprising dimensions of meaning such as, to give up the objective of ever again claiming one’s right or interest, or to give over and surrender completely to any attempt at self-control, to quit, relinquish, renounce, vacate, resign, discard, forswear, forsake; ‘to abandon’ denotes the absolute giving up of an object, surrendering it to the mercy of something or someone else greater.
Would it not be remarkable if the object that we need to give up were not some carnal thing but a spiritual thing, even a correct thing, and a thing pertaining to the Lord Himself, something so spiritual and cherished that we would not relinquish it even for the Lord Himself?  That is the ultimate irony of the last impediment that stands between ourselves and Him, the last thing that keeps us from being that bridal company that follows Him ‘withersoever He goeth.’  It is not the carnal, the wrong thing; it is the correct thing, and a cherished thing, and because it is correct and spiritual, it is the most difficult thing to forsake or to abandon.  To give up or to abandon carnal or material things is no sacrifice at all, but the abandonment for which the Lord waits is clearly a sacrifice.
Strangely and ironically, the desire for, the interest in, or the protection of that which is correct – even the desire to be right, the enjoyment of rectitude, the wonderful feeling of being really lined up with God – any or all of these could be the impediment that itself needs to be forsaken.  It is remarkable how few will do it.  Maybe it is for that reason Jesus’ murder was inevitable, and carried out not by those who were apparently wicked or evil, but by the best of Jewish society and religious life, because He seemed to constitute a threat to what they held to be as correct.  They must defend their correctness in such a way as to crucify the Lord who Himself gave the truths which they cherish and defend!
Saul is the perfect example of that.  In his zeal to protect the faith of inviolate Israel from what appeared to be a dangerous heret[...]</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Matthew 6:24
I’ll begin with a quick recap of the last post, by defining my working definition of Theocracy. Theocracy literally means the “rule of God”. My use of the word describes the principle of an individual allowing God the right to rule one’s life, in the present. For a further explanation of what I do and do not mean by Theocracy, refer to the last post.
Any discussion on Theocracy would be futile without considering the practical outworking of God’s Sovereignty. If our understanding of God’s rule doesn’t bring us to the place of obedience, then our pondering reduces itself to mere trivia or entertainment. Woe unto us if we allow this to happen to such an important theme.
Before we begin, there is something we must consider.
God Cares For Us
6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
1 Peter 5:6-7
He cares for us!!! It is absolutely vital that we see this, and that in the light of this fact, He not only can be trusted to have our cares cast upon Him, but He even invites us to do so. This is the major component of the basis of obedience, and a great source of humbling, that the Almighty God cares for us.
Consider the one whose hand penned these words. Peter was the one who, when Christ spoke of his imminent death at the hands of sinful men, rose up as a loyal subject, promising to defend his King (Matt 16:21-23). Even though it is normal for a king to cast his cares upon his subjects, and to put his needs and desires before theirs, Christ had shown Peter that God, not only cares for His subjects, but He actually desires to attend to their cares (see John 13:3-17).
Now, knowing this about God, let’s move on to His rule.
For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.
Rom 11:36
The Westminster Shorter Catechism cites the above verse, while answering its first question with, “The chief end of all being is the glory of God, and to enjoy Him forever.” This verse clearly states that “all things” have their origin, continuance and destination in God.
There is no room given for another source of anything. These facts are confirmed in statements such as “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith..” (Heb 12:2) and “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty” (Rev 1:8). It is the present tense statement that we are facing in this post. The question we are raising is, “How do we live in the light of the knowledge of ‘all things’ being ‘through Him’?”
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Heb 11:6
There are two things which we must digest before we come to God. Firstly, “He is”. He is a present reality, existing now and is active at this moment, just as He was and will be. The exhortation is given, “Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.” (Heb 3:12-13)
The ever present “is” of God testifies to His “living”. Not only did He die for us “while we were yet sinners”, but He “raised again for our justification”. Which leads to the second fact about God that we must believe, in order to come to Him, “He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him”[...]</itunes:summary>

		<itunes:summary>Dave Smethurst
This all started a number of years ago in a Baptist church in Crystal Palace in South London. The Sunday morning service was closing and a man stood up at the back and raised his hand and said: “Excuse me pastor can I share a short testimony?” The pastor looked at his watch and said “You have three minutes.” The man proceeded with his story: “I’ve just moved into this area. I used to live in Sydney Australia. Just a few months back I was visiting some relatives and I was walking down George Street. You know where George Street is in Sydney going from the Business Area out to the colonial area. A strange little white haired man stepped out from a shop doorway, put a pamphlet in my hand and said: ‘Excuse me sir, are you saved, if you die tonight are you going to heaven?’ “I was astounded by these words. No one had ever asked me that. I thanked him courteously and all the way home to London this puzzled me. I called a friend and thank God he was a Christian and he led me to Christ.”
The Baptists love testimonies like that. Everyone applauded and welcomed him into their fellowship.
The Baptist pastor flew to Adelaide, Australia the next week and 10 days later in the middle of a three day series in a Baptist church in Adelaide, a woman came up to him for some counseling. He wanted to establish where she stood with Christ. She said “I used to live in Sydney and just a couple of months back I was visiting some friends in Sydney and doing some last minute shopping down George Street. A strange little white haired man stepped out of a shop doorway and offered me a pamphlet and said ‘Excuse me madam, are you saved, if you die tonight are you going to heaven?’ “I was disturbed by those words. When I got home to Adelaide, I knew this Baptist church was on the next block from me. I sought out the pastor and he led me to Christ. So I am telling you that I am a Christian.”
The London pastor was now very puzzled. Twice in two weeks he had heard the same testimony. He then flew to preach in the Mount Pleasant Church in Perth. When his teaching series was over the senior elder of that Church took him out for a meal and he asked the elder how he got saved. “I grew up in this church from the age of 15. He wouldn’t listen to me. I was seething with anger all the way home from Sydney to Perth. I told my pastor, thinking that he would sympathize, but he agreed. He had been disturbed for years knowing that I didn’t have a relationship with Jesus, and he was right. My pastor led me to Jesus just three years ago.”
The London preacher flew home and was soon speaking at the Keswick conventions in the Lake District and he threw in these three testimonies. At the close of this teaching series, four elderly pastors came up and explained that they too had been saved between 25 and 30 years earlier through that same little man on George Street, offering them a pamphlet and asking that same question.
The following week he flew to a similar Keswick convention in the Caribbean to missionaries. He shared the same testimonies. At the close of his teaching three missionaries came forward and said that they had also been saved between 15 and 25 years earlier by that same little man’s testimony and the same question on George Street in Sydney.
Next he stopped in Atlanta, Georgia to speak at a Naval Chaplain convention. Here for three days he spoke to over 1000 Naval Chap[...]</itunes:summary>

		<description>No matter how great the conquest, the greatest title given to the victor is "conqueror". To conqueror implies that the war is over, and the enemy is defeated. In other words, successive "battles" are won until there emerges a final victor who is known as the "conqueror".&lt;div class="feedflare"&gt;

		<description>Chip Brogden It is important that we make a clear distinction between the True Church (the Ecclesia) and the Institutional Church, Organized Religion, or religion in general. The easiest way to begin is to discuss one critical thing that Organized Religion cannot do. Organized Religion cannot impart Life. &amp;#8220;This is our testimony, that God has [...]&lt;div class="feedflare"&gt;

- Lincoln Allison

I make this small post to introduce an idea. Allow me to introduce you to a word which has greatly captivated my imagination of late, THEOCRACY.
The word can take on a variety of implications. One need only think of Iran, or Taliban controlled Afghanistan to see a purported theocracy in action. But this is not my meaning, when using the word.
The word theocracy originates from the Greek θεοκρατία (theokratia), meaning `the rule of God’ (Josephus). This in turn derives from the Greek words θεος (theos, from an Indo-European root occurring in religious concepts), meaning `god,’ and κρατειν (kratein), meaning `to rule.’ Thus the meaning of the word in Greek was `rule by god(s)’ or human incarnation(s) of god(s). (Wikipedia)
My usage of the word is to refer to the direct rule of God over man. Contrasted with `democracy (from Greek dēmokratiā : dēmos, people + -kratein, -to rule.)’, we can see two options: `God in charge’, or `Man in charge’. A.W. Tozer, in his sermon The Voice of Reform, mentioned the need to return to `the right human/Divine relationship’, which he described simply as `God on the throne talking, and man on his face listening’. This is the sense that I mean.
Essentially, by using the word `Theocracy’, I mean `allowing God the right to rule over your life’. In no way am I suggesting some kind of Dominionist or Kingdom Now theology (see my article `The Pontification of the `Modern Church‘ for some of my early comments on those theologies). After all, any attempt at man establishing the Kingdom of God on earth, by means of political influence, is mere Democracy, which still has man on the throne, albeit claiming to be in proxy for God. Theoretically one could say that the more people actively submit their lives to God, the more He will rule, in a secular sense, however history seems to suggest that the more secular power the Church wields, the more corruption infiltrates Christendom.
Scripture is clear about God’s Kingdom not being established, on Earth, until Christ’s Millennial Reign begins, upon his return. However, my reason for raising this theme is to suggest that we can obey Him, who is at present, invisible in preparation for His bodily return. Christ made many statements regarding those who will be be about his Father’s business when he returns, even implying that faithfulness in mundane things will establish an ability to be trusted with spiritual things.
