Project #1

Day-to-Day basic needs for Government Children’s Home for Girls @ Purasawakkam (A Shelter home for Poor / Missing / Abandoned / Neglected and Destitute Children and Women with 230 Inmates),

For October 2010 month’s event, we visited Government Children’s Home for Girls @ Purasawakkam on 31^st October 2010. At present, this organization takes care of nearly 230 inmates, who are Poor / Missing / Abandoned / Neglected and Destitute Children and Women who are victims of immoral trafficking, between the age of 5 to 18 years. This home provides free food, education, shelter, medical care and other basic needs of life to the inmates, besides providing school education to the children of the home. Children are studying in nearby school and also in the residential school in the home. Mrs. Soundara Kumari, who is the Superintendent of this home, requested for day-to-day basic needs for these children. As per her request, we provided them day to day basic needs such as Umbrella and Plastic Pots. We also provided them Cakes, Biscuits and Savories on the day of our visit. We had conducted various games such as Kho Kho, Throw Ball, Talent Show, Drawing Competition, Train Game, etc. and awarded the prizes to them.

Educational Aid for a Sri Lankan Refugee Camp Girl K Saimanila, B.Sc., (Information Technology)

We have already provided the 2^nd Semester & 3^rd Semester College Fees of Rs. 16,000/- , per semester, for a Poor Sri Lankan Refugee Camp Girl named Saimanila K. She was referred by our partner organization “India Sudar Educational and Charitable Trust” (www.indiasudar.org), Chennai and verified by Mr. Udhaya Kumar (From India Sudar). Now, she is in her 4^th Semester of B.Sc., (Information Technology) in N.M.S.S. Vellaichamy Nadar College, Nagamalai, Madurai. Her father is not living with them and her mother is working as Daily Wage Laborer and is taking care of the whole family. They are living in the Sri Lankan Refugee Camp @ Sivakasi. Her elder sister (Gokila) is working in Office at Indira Gandhi International Academy School (which is providing Free School Education for the Sri Lankan Refugees), Bangalore. Her three younger sisters are living in the Sri Lankan Refugee Camp and studying in the nearby Government Schools. Saimanila’s 4^th Semester College Fees is Rs. 18,000/-, and she needed our help for the same. We have provided the 4^thSemester College Fees of Rs. 18,000/-.

Partial Educational Aid for Balaji N. (Diploma in Computer Technology)

We came to know about a boy named N. Balaji hailing from a poor family living in Thiruninravur, Chennai. He was referred and verified by our volunteer Annapoorani, who has lost his father. His mother is working as Store Keeper and his brother has just now got a job. He is doing his 6^th Semester of Diploma in Computer Technology (DCT) in Jaya Polytechnic College, Thiruninravur, Chennai. He is struggling to pay his college fees of Rs. 15,590/-. We have provided Partial College Fees for his 6^th Semester amount to Rs. 5,000/-.

Partial Educational Aid for Sanjay Karthik G. (Diploma in Computer Technology)

We came to know about a boy named G. Sanjay Karthik hailing from a poor family living in Tiruppur. He got 95% in 12^th Standard and 88% in 10^th Standard Examinations. He was referred and verified by our volunteer Ramachandran. His father is working in a Baniyan Company in Tiruppur and earning Rs.4,000/- per month, and his mother is house wife. He is doing his 4^th Semester of B.E. (Mechanical Engineering) in St. Joseph’s College of Engineering, Kelambakkam, Chennai. He is struggling to pay his college fees. We have provided Partial College Fees for his 4^th Semester amount to Rs. 5,000/-.

Food Expenses for Poor Physically Challenged Working Women of Thiyagam Women’s Trust, Madurai

Thiyagam Women’s Trust is providing free accommodation to Physically Challenged Working Women, who hail from poor background in rural areas around Madurai. They had been collecting Rs.400/- towards providing food for the physically challenged women who are working in the Thiyagam Tailoring Unit and Thiyagam

Computer Centre. We have been taking care of the Food Expenses for the 10 poor Physically Challenged Working Women since November 2009. We have provided Rs. 5,250/- towards the Food Expenses for the month of October 2010.

Reader arranged for a Visually Challenged Home @ Anantapur District, Andhra Pradesh

We already know about this home (Andha Mahila Aasramamu @ Kurugunta Village, Anantapur District of Andhra Pradesh). At present, this organization takes care of nearly 15 Visually Challenged Girls from age 15 to 30. This home provides free food, shelter, and other basic needs of life to the inmates. 6 girls are studying in 10^th Standard, 8 girls are studying in 11^th Standard and one girl is pursuing her degree. These students are struggling to learn their lessons due to the non-availability of Readers, since this home is in rural area. So, we have arranged a Reader to read the subjects for the Visually Challenged Girls on a daily basis for 2 hours and we will be paying a salary of Rs. 2,000/- per month for the Reader. We paid Rs. 2,000/- monthly salary for the Reader for the month of October 2010. Last year we had arranged a Reader for a period of Six months from November 2009 – April 2010.

Rent for November 2010 month provided for a Poor / Orphan Children’s Home with 22 Inmates @ Puzhal, Chennai

Vallalar Karunai Illam Home (Formerly “Perumal – Subbaiah Memorial Home”) was struggling to pay their rent. So, we have provided Rs. 1,000/- as Rent for the month of November 2010. We have already provided monthly provisions in May 2009, July 2009 and July 2010 to this home and also paid rent of this home from September 2009.

We appreciate your valuable Suggestions/Comments about the event to plan and improve our future events. The excess amount of Rs. 38,899.35 will be utilized for the November 2010 month’s event.

Project #1

Day-to-Day basic needs for Shri Ramakrishna Aathmalayam @ Cholavaram, Chennai (A Shelter home for Poor / Orphan / Mentally Retarded / Physically Challenged / Old Aged / Visually Challenged with 175 Inmates),

For September 2010 month’s event, we visited Shri Ramakrishna Aathmalayam, Cholavaram, Chennai on 26^th September 2010. At present, this organization takes care of nearly 175 inmates, who are Poor / Orphan / Mentally Retarded / Physically Challenged / Old Aged / Visually Challenged. This home provides free food, shelter, medical care and other basic needs of life to the inmates, besides providing school education to the children of the home. Children are studying in nearby schools and also in the residential school in the home. As per their request, we provided Sarees / Chudidars / Nighties for the normal / mentally retarded women. We also provided them Sweets and Savories. We conducted Drawing Completion for the children and awarded prizes to the children.

Project #2

Visited a AIDS Orphan Home with 60 inmates

As part of our September 2010 month’s event, we also visited the Community Health Education Society (CHES) (A Shelter Care for AIDS Orphans), Near Periyapalayam on 26th September 2010. There are nearly 50 children, in which, most of them are affected by HIV (Affected - Either Father (or) Mother of the Child died because of HIV, relations are not ready to adopt) and few of them are themselves infected by HIV. This home provides free food, shelter, medical care and education for the children till 5th standard in their campus itself. Children who are studying above 5th Standard are going to Schools near the home. Mr.Muthupandi and his wife Mrs.Chitra, are taking care of this home and they are living along with them with their kids. We provided Sweets , Savories and Fruits on the day of our visit. We also conducted Balloon Bursting Competition for the inmates of the home. It was real fun and they enjoyed it very much.

Partial Amount provided for purchase of an Old Ambulance for Anbagam Orphanage Home, Dindigul (For the Living Care of HIV Affected Women & Children).

Anbagam Orphange Home, which is also called as DACS (Dindigul AIDS Control Society) is home for nearly 65 inmates (40 HIV affected (or) infected Children / 25 Old Aged). Most of the children are affected by HIV (Affected - Either Father (or) Mother of the Child died because of HIV, relations are not ready to adopt) and few of them are themselves infected by HIV. Most of the children in the home are below 9 years. This home provides free food, shelter, medical care and education for the children. Mr. Thankachan, who is the founder and president of this home, is taking care of their needs. For the past 5 years, nearly 20 children have died due to unavailability of emergency transportation to the hospital. They are paying Rs. 4,500/- monthly towards transportation charges for school going children. Hence, they are planning to procure a van which is to be used both for emergency medical purposes as well as for transportation of the Children to School. We had provided a partial amount of Rs. 40,000/- (Forty Thousand Only) for the purchase of an Old vehicle, which is in good condition, for this noble cause.

Food Expenses for Poor Physically Challenged Working Women of Thiyagam Women’s Trust, Madurai

Computer Centre. From November 2009 onwards, we have been taking care of the Food Expenses for the 10 poor Physically Challenged Working Women. We have provided Rs. 5,250/- towards the Food Expenses for the month of September 2010.

Project #1

A Month’s Provision provided for Bharatha Matha Illam (Poor / Orphan Children & Destitute Women’s Home) @ Nandhiyambakkam, Chennai

For August 2010 month’s event, we had gathered together at Bharatha Matha Illam, Nandhiyambakkam, Chennai. At present this organization takes care of nearly 65 inmates. This Home provides free food, shelter, education, medical care and other basic needs of life to all the inmates of the Home. We came to know that they were struggling for their day-to-day needs. So, we provided a Month’s Provision for this home. We also provided Cakes and Chocolates for all the inmates of the Home on the day of our visit. We have also provided them 21 Special Coaching Materials (Guides) for IX, X, XI Standard Students of this home. The Children enjoyed the day and had fun. We have already provided them a month’s provision in January 2009, September 2009 and April 2010.

Partial Educational Aid for M. Nagalakshmi (M.Sc., Bio Technology)

We came to know about a girl named M. Nagalakshmi hailing from a poor family living in Panruti, Cuddalore District. She was referred by our partner organization “India Sudar Educational and Charitable Trust” (www.indiasudar.org), Chennai and verified by Mr. Sargunan (From India Sudar). Now, she is doing her 2^nd Year of M.Sc., (Bio Technology) in Chettinad Academy of Research and Education, Kelambakkam, Chennai. Her father is working as Barber and her mother is housewife. She already got Educational Loan for only partial amount of her fees. So, still she is struggling to pay her balance fees of Rs. 25,000/-. We have provided the 2^nd Year Partial College Fees of Rs. 10,000/-. /-. Our Special thanks to India Sudar Educational and Charitable Trust for successful completion of this project.

Basic needs for a Mentally Retarded / Orphan / Old Aged Home with 57 inmates @ Panaiyur, Chennai.

We came to know that a home named “Little Hearts”, are struggling for their basic needs. At present, this organization takes care of 57 inmates of Mentally Retarded / Orphan / Old Aged. This home provides free food, shelter, medical care and other basic needs of life to the inmates, besides providing school education to the children of the home. Children are studying in the nearby school named “Little Buds” and also in the Residential Special School in the home. We came to know that they were struggling for their day-to-day basic needs. So, we provided Four Foam Beds for this home to amount Rs. 6,400/-. Our volunteer Jeyaseeralan and myself visited this home on 18^th September 2010 and spent some time with these children, which was enjoyed both by us and the inmates of the home.

For July 2010 month’s event, we had gathered together at Vallalar Karunai Illam Home (Formerly “Perumal – Subbaiah Memorial Home”) for Poor / Orphan Children with 22 inmates. This Home provides free food, shelter, education, medical care and other basic needs of life to all the inmates of the Home. We came to know that they were struggling for their day-to-day needs. So, we provided a Month’s Provision for this home along with Uniform Stitching Charges / Blouse Material & Stitching Charges. We provided Sweets, Savories and Chocolates for all the inmates of the Home on the day of our visit. We also entertained them by conducting various games such as Musical Chair and Talent Show. The Children enjoyed the day and had fun.

A Month’s Provision for a Poor / Orphan / Semi-Orphan Children’s Home @ Nemilichery, Chennai

Gandhiji Rehabilitation Centre, Nemilichery, Chennai takes care of 25 inmates almost all of them being poor / orphan / semi-orphan. This Home provides free food, shelter, education, medical care and other basic needs of life to all the inmates of the Home. We came to know that they were struggling for their day-to-day basic needs. As per their request, we provided a Month’s Provision to this Home. We have already provided monthly provisions on several occasions to this Home.

We came to know about a girl named S. Kanchana hailing from a poor family referred by our volunteer Senthil Kumar, who was unable to pay the school fees since her father is working as a sweeper. We have provided Partial School Fees for her 11^th Standard amounting to Rs. 3,000/-

We came to know about a boy named M. Vignesh hailing from a poor family referred by our volunteer Annapoorani, who was unable to pay the school fees since his father is not working and his mother is working as House Maid. We have provided School Fees for his L.K.G amounting to Rs. 3,850/-

We came to know about a girl named S. Lavanya hailing from a poor family referred by our volunteer Annapoorani, who is unable to pay the school fees since her father is not working and her mother is working as House Maid. We have provided School Fees for her 1^stStandard amounting to Rs. 3,905/-

Partial Educational Aid for P Chandana (M.Sc., Computer Science)

We came to know about a girl named P. Chandana hailing from a poor family referred by our volunteer Narahari, who was unable to pay the college hostel fees since her father is no more and her mother is earning by taking Tuitions. We have provided Partial College Hostel Fees for her 1^st Year M.Sc. (Computer Science) amounting to Rs. 10,000/-

We came to know about a boy named R. Praveen Kumar from a poor family referred by our volunteer Revathy Suresh, who has lost his father. His mother is working as a house maid. We have provided School Fees for his 7^th Standard along with the Uniforms amounting to Rs. 7,500/-

School Fees / Uniforms / Note Books for 49 Differently – Abled Children / Children of Differently – Abled / Poor Children

For June 2010 month’s event, we had gathered together at Thiru Vi. Ka High School, Shenoy Nagar, Chennai to provide educational aid to the Differently Abled / Children of Differently-Abled / Poor Children. We provided School Fees / Uniforms / Note Books for 49 Children. We also entertained them by conducting various games such as Musical Chair, Talent Show and Throw Ball. We provided Lunch to the beneficiaries and their parents who had accompanied them for the event. The Children enjoyed the day and had fun. Our sincere thanks to Mr. Aarokiya Dass, who himself is a Differently-Abled Person and is the founder of Snegithan (It is a Registered Non Profit Trust which is providing assistance and guidance to the Differently-Abled and Poor People), who helped us to identify the beneficiaries and gathered them for the event. We have also provided educational aid for these beneficiaries in the past two years.

Thiyagam Women Trust is providing free accommodation to Physically Challenged Working Women, who hail from poor background in rural areas around Madurai. In October 2009, they planned not to collect money from the physically challenged working women & women under training, for providing food. They needed some helping hand to take care of the food provided to these women. So, from November 2009 onwards we have been taking care of the Food Expenses for the 10 poor Physically Challenged Working Women. We have provided Rs. 5,250/- towards the Food Expenses for the month of June 2010.

For May 2010 month’s event, we visited Udhavum Ullangal Illam (Old Age & Children’s Home) situated near Maraimalai Nagar on 30^th May 2010. At present, this organization takes care of nearly 75 inmates (Old Aged – 25, Orphan Children – 48). This home provides free food, shelter, medical care and other basic needs of life to the inmates besides providing school education to the inmates of the home. Children of this Home are studying in the nearby schools. This home provides peaceful and harmonious life to the helpless aged citizens. We provided School Fees, Shoes, Chappals for 48 Children and Health Food & Drinks and Fruits for 25 Old Aged Women. We also provided Special Lunch, Ice Creams, Sweets, Savories, Biscuits, and Chocolates for all the inmates of the home. We conducted various games like Drawing Competition, Balloon Bursting Competition and Talent Show for Children and Ball Pass Game for Elders. We have also provided educational aid for this home last year in the month of May 2009..

Food Expenses for Poor Physically Challenged Working Women of Thiyagam Women’s Trust, Madurai

Thiyagam Women Trust is providing free accommodation to Physically Challenged Working Women, who hail from poor background in rural areas around Madurai. They had been collecting Rs.400/- towards providing food for the physically challenged women who are working in the Thiyagam Tailoring Unit and Thiyagam Computer Centre. In October 2009, they planned not to collect money from the physically challenged working women & women under training, for providing food. They needed some helping hand to take care of the food provided to these women. So, from November 2009 onwards we were taking care of the Food Expenses for the 10 poor Physically Challenged Working Women for a period of Six months (November 2009 – April 2010). Now, we have revived the project and are planning to extended our support for another Six Months (May 2010 – October 2010) for Rs. 5,250/- per month.

Partial Educational Aid for a Semi-Orphan Poor Girl – Logeshwari D.

We came to know about a girl Logeshwari D who needed help for pursuing her education. She scored 403 out of 500 in the SSLC Examination (80.6%). She is one of the inmates of the Government Home for Girls, Purasawakkam, where she studied in the residential school inside the home premises itself. She hails from a Village near Cuddalore District. Her father is no more and her mother is the sole bread-winner in her family. Her younger brother is doing his 7^th Standard. Now, she is going to study from her native home (Cuddalore). She got admission in a school for Plus One (11^th Standard) Science Group. Total Fees is Rs. 7,000/-. She is falling short by Rs. 3,500/- and she needs our help for the same. We have provided the Partial School Fees of Rs. 3,500/-.

Unpaid Rent for two months provided for a Poor/Orphan Children/Old Aged/Mentally Retarded/ Handicapped Home (May & June 2010)

We already know this home (“Perumal – Subbaiah Memorial Orphan, Children, Old Aged and Handicapped Home – Karunai Illam”, with 20 inmates) and have already provided a month’s provision in May 2009 & July 2009 to this home and also paid rent of this home during September 2009 – April 2010. They are struggling to pay their rent. So, we have provided last month and this month rent for this home. (May & June 2010).

Educational Aid for a Sri Lankan Refugee Camp Student

Last year, we had provided the 2^nd Semester College Fees of Rs. 16,000/- for a Poor Sri Lankan Refugee Camp Girl named Saimanila K. She was referred by our partner organization “India Sudar Educational and Charitable Trust” (www.indiasudar.org), Chennai and verified by Mr. Udhaya Kumar (From India Sudar). Now, she is going to join her 3^rd Semester of B.Sc., (Information Technology) in N.M.S.S. Vellaichamy Nadar College, Nagamalai, Madurai. Her father is not living with them and her mother is working as Daily Wage Laborer and is taking care of the whole family. They are living in the Sri Lankan Refugee Camp @ Sivakasi. Her elder sister (Gokila) is working in Office at Indira Gandhi International Academy School (which is providing Free School Education for the Sri Lankan Refugees), Bangalore. Her three younger sisters are living in the Sri Lankan Refugee Camp and studying in the nearby Government Schools. Saimanila’s 3^rd Semester College Fees is Rs. 16,000/-, and she needed our help for the same. We haveprovided the 3^rd Semester College Fees of Rs. 16,000/-.

Provision for a Poor / Orphan / Semi-Orphan Children’s Home @ Nemilichery, Chennai

Gandhiji Rehabilitation Centre, Nemilichery, Chennai takes care of 25 inmates; almost all of them being poor / orphan / semi-orphan. This home provides free food, shelter, education, medical care and other basic needs of life to all the inmates of the home. Vanarasan, who is the son of the organization’s founder, is taking care of the students. They are struggling for their day-to-day basic needs. As per their request we provided provisions worth Rs. 2,500/-.

Food Expenses for Poor Visually Challenged Students of Government Hostel for Boys @ Kodambakkam, Chennai.

Government Hostel for Visually Challenged & Normal Students @ Kodambakkam, Chennai accommodates the needy Visually Challenged and Normal Students hailing from Poor rural families who come to Chennai for their further studies. This home provides free food, shelter and other basic needs for nearly 40 Visually Challenged Students and more than 60 Normal Students. These students are studying in various government and private colleges in and around Chennai in various disciplines such as English, History, Tamil, etc. Currently, there are 15 Visually Challenged students residing at the hostel. This hostel was closed few weeks back for the summer holidays, but some of our Visually Challenged students needed to stay on for taking up their B. Ed., and other examinations. Although, the hostel is as such open, the mess could not be kept functioning. A few regular readers at the hostel have been extremely supportive and have been sponsoring the Dinner requirement. But now, the students seem to have no where else to turn for help and have come to us for help. Mr. Narayana of Vaishnavi Caterers has gracefully agreed to deliver Dinner to the hostel on 28^th, 29^th, 30^th and 31^st May, 2010 for a small amount of Rs. 300/- per day (Rs. 300 * 4 Days = Rs. 1,200/-). He himself has sponsored Dinner for these Visually Challenged students on 3 days last week.

Now, she is going to study from a Government Hostel @ Egmore. She got admission in a school for Plus One (11^th Standard). Total Fees is Rs. 6,500/-. She is falling short by Rs. 3,500/- and she needs our help for the same. We have provided the Partial School Fees of Rs. 3,500/-.

A Month’s Provision for a Poor / Orphan / Destitute Women’s Home @ Nandhiyambakkam, Chennai

For April 2010 month’s event, we visited Bharatha Matha Sevai Illam, Nadhiyambakkam, Chennai. At present this organization takes care of nearly 65 inmates (Poor / Orphan Children – 60, Destitute Women – 5). This home provides free food, shelter, medical care and other basic needs of life to the inmates besides providing school education to the inmates of the home. Children are studying in the nearby Government Schools. As per their request we provided a Month’s Provision for the home. We conducted various games such as Drawing Competition, Talent Show and awarded prizes to the children. We have already provided them a month’s provision in the month of January 2009 & September 2009.

Uniform Stitching Charges for Anbagam Orphanage Home, Dindigul (For the Living Care of HIV Affected Women & Children)

Anbagam Orphange Home, which is also called as DACS (Dindigul AIDS Control Society) is taking care of nearly 38 children, in which most of them are affected by HIV (Affected - Either Father (or) Mother of the Child died because of HIV, relations are not ready to adopt) and few of them are themselves infected by HIV. Most of the children in the home are below 9 years. This home provides free food, shelter, medical care and education for the children. We provided Stitching Charges of Two Uniform Sets for 21 children

Day-to-Day Basic needs for a Physically & Mentally Challenged Children Home @ Ambasamudhram

Annai Jothi Seva Trust was formed in January 2000 by a service minded person named Mrs. Dr. P. Jesy. This is a Welfare andRehabilitation Center for the Physically & Mentally Challenged Children. This home takes care of nearly 69 inmates (Mentally Challenged Children – 41, Mentally Challenged Adults – 7, Normal Orphan Children – 21). Every Mentally Challenged Children are trained according to his/her abilities. This home provides free food, shelter, medical care and other basic needs of life to the inmates besides providing school education to the inmates of the home. Mentally Challenged Children are studying in the residential school, which is situated in the home itself. Normal Children are sent to nearby schools for their studies. We came to know that there is an immediate need for their day-to-day basic needs. We provided them with Inner Wears as per the request of the home

Educational Aid for a Poor College Girl

We came to know about a girl Ganga S. who needed help for pursuing her education. She was referred by Mr. Sargunam, Trustee of our partner organization “India Sudar Educational and Charitable Trust” (www.indiasudar.org) Chennai and verified by Mr. Gopi (Member of India Sudar). Ganga is doing her B.Com., at Sokaikeda College, Sethu Bhaskara Nagar, Chennai. Her father was working in Washing Department and her mother is house wife. Her sister is pursuing her +2 Examinations. Currently, Ganga is doing Part Time Job in Jothi Readymades, Perambur during her Summer Holidays. Her third year College Fees is Rs. 6,375/- and needed our help for the same. We have provided the Third Year College Fees of Rs. 6,375/-. Our Special thanks to India Sudar Educational and Charitable Trust for successful completion of this project.

We came to know about a Visually Challenged Student Bhavani K, who needs help for continuing her education. She was referred by Mr. Sathish, Member of our partner organization “Disha Foundation”, (http://disha.resolve.at) Chennai and verified by Miss. Uma, (Member of Disha Foundation). She is doing B.Ed., in “Our Lady Madha College of Education”, Maduravoyal. She hails from Orathanadu Taluk of Thanjavur District. Her father is the sole bread-winner and he is a Agricultural Labor and her mother is house wife. Her younger brother is doing his 10^th Standard. Bhavani’s Total College fees is Rs. 50,000/-. Hence she is falling short of Rs. 9,500/- and she needs our help for the same. We have provided the Partial College Fees of Rs. 9,500/-. Our Special thanks to Disha Foundation Team (Ravi, Dharmalakshmi, Uma) for successful completion of this project.

Hospital, Salem. She hails from Kamuthi Taluk in Ramanad District. Her father was dead and her mother is working in Mid Day Meal Section in a Government School. Her First Year Total College Fees is Rs. 15,300/- and needed our help for the same. We have provided the Partial College Fees of Rs. 7,000/-

Project #1

Day-to-Day Basic needs for a Visually Challenged Women’s Home @ Mylapore, Chennai

For March 2010 month’s event, we visited Lotus Blind Welfare Trust of India, which was formed in 2002 by eight visually challenged persons, with the aim to support the Visually Challenged girl students hailing from poor rural families who come to Chennai for their further studies. At present, the organization takes care of 50 visually challenged students. This home provides free food, shelter, medical care and other basic needs to its inmates. These girls are studying in various government colleges in and around Chennai in various disciplines such as English, History, Tamil, etc. As per their request we provided Rain Coats, Bath Soaps, Washing Soaps, Hair Oils, Tooth Brushes, Tooth Pastes, Shampoos, Washing Brushes and Soap Boxes. We also provided them a Special Lunch along with Biscuits and Ice Creams. We conducted a Reading Session (Volunteer will read out the required lessons from the college subjects for the Visually Challenged Students), which lasted for nearly 3 hours with 30 volunteers participating eagerly and was found to be very useful by the visually challenged. We conducted Anthakshari and few other games to entertain them.

Reverse Osmosis Water Purifier for a Poor / Orphan Children’s Home @ Nemilichery, Chennai.

Gandhiji Rehabilitation Centre, Nemilichery, Chennai (A Shelter Home for Poor / Orphan Children) takes care of nearly 25 inmates; almost all of them are poor / orphan / semi-orphan. This home provides free food, shelter, medical care and other basic needs of life to the inmates, besides providing school education to the inmates of the home. During our February 2010 Monthly Event visit to this home, we came to know that the water that they have currently is not suitable for drinking. So, they are using Mineral Water for drinking and it costs nearly Rs. 2,000/- per month. Hence, we provided a Reverse Osmosis Water Purifier for this home for good and safe drinking water for the children.

Classes on “How to Prepare and Write the Exams” & “Career Guidance” for 10th Standard Girls of Arul Jothi High School @ Old Washermenpet, Chennai

Arul Jothi High School @ Old Washermenpet, Chennai, is a private school managed by a trust “Vyabarigal Sangam” and gives Free Education to nearly 550 children (both Boys & Girls) studying from 1^st Standard to 10^th Standard. We had conducted Classes on “How to Prepare and Write the Exams” & “Career Guidance” for the 46 students (Boys & Girls) who are studying 10^th Standard on Saturday, 27^th February 2010, to help these students to choose their future career. Our volunteer C. Senthil Kumar, who is an expert in delivering speech on “How to Prepare and Write the Exams” & “Career Guidance” gave an interactive speech which motivated and encouraged these students and gave a boost to their Self – Confidenceand a new ray of hope. We also provided Geometry Boxes / Ink Pens / Ball Point Pens / Pencils / Sharpeners / Erasers / Long Size Scales / Chocolates and Snacks. Earlier we had conducted “Free Eye Screening Camp” to this school’s children on March 2009 and provided 33 Spectacles Free of Cost. We also provided them Blankets (Jamakalam) for each class, for children to sit comfortably and learn well.

Medical Aid for a Poor Family

We came to know from Mr. Raja Mohamed, friend of our volunteer Jeyaseeralan, about Mr. Kannan, 27 years, was admitted for breathing problem in St. John’s Hospital in Bangalore in last week of February 2010. The Doctors diagnosed Lungs Infection, Spine Infection, Multiple Organ Infection, Viral Infection, H1N1 and Disseminated Tuberculosis. He was given Tamiflu. MRI & Normal Scan were done. He was in ICU for one week and it cost nearly Rs. 1,20,000/- with Rs.15,000/- per day for ICU charges alone. He was the only bread winner for his family. His father is dumb and his mother is deaf. In spite of the best of efforts from everybody to collect money for his treatment, he unfortunately passed away on 2^nd March 2010. We had initially promised the family a sum of Rs. 10,000/- for his treatment. Since the parents of Mr. Kannan do not have any source of income after he passed away nor any other support, we provided Rs. 10,000/- to his parents as committed for their family basic needs.We also attached the certificate issued by the hospital towards the treatment given to the patient.

For January 2010 month’s event, we visited Saranalayam (A Home for Destitute & Orphan Children), Avadi on 24th January 2010. At present, the organization takes care of 30 destitute and orphan children. This home provides free food, shelter, education, medical care and other basic needs to the inmates of the home. Mr. Kulandaivelu & Mrs. Kasthuri are taking care of this home and they are living along with the children. We provided a Month’s Provision for the home. We also setup a Books Library of various disciplines. We also provided them Ice Creams and Chocolates. We conducted various games such as Drawing Competition, Balloon Bursting Competition, Talent Show and awarded prizes to the children.

These girls are studying in various government colleges in and around Chennai in various disciplines such as English, History, Tamil, etc. We came to know that there is an immediate need for their day-to-day basic needs. We provided them with Inner Wears as per the request of the Home.

Children who are poor, orphan, missing, abandoned, neglected, destitute and delinquent and Women who are victims of immoral trafficking from the age of 5 years to 18 years are brought to the Government Children’s Home for Girls at Purasawakkam, Chennai. Children of this home are studying in the residential school in the home itself. We had conducted the Classes on “How to Prepare and Write the Exams” & “Career Guidance” for the 29 Girls who are studying 10^th Standard on Sunday, 17^th January 2010, to help these girls choose their future career. Our volunteer C. Senthil Kumar, who is an expert in delivering speech on “How to Prepare and Write the Exams” & “Career Guidance” gave an interactive speech which motivated and encouraged these girls and gave a boost to their Self – Confidence and a new ray of hope. We also provided Long Size Notes / Geometry Boxes / Ink Pens / Ball Point Pens / Pencils / Sharpeners / Erasers / Long Size Scales / Chocolates and Snacks. We also provided Drawing Pencils along with Wax Crayons for the students who are attending Drawing Classes. We also conducted Talent show for these girls and we all enjoyed the session very much.

Last week we came to know that they have been struggling to pay their rent from December 2009. So, we provided the two month’s Rent for this home. (December 2009 – January 2010).

Computer Tables for Poor Physically Challenged Women of Thiyagam Women Trust, Madurai

Thiyagam women Trust is registered under the charitable Trust Act, and is established to serve the rural women with disabilities and to empower them to stand on their own feet. Thiyagam Computer Centre is providing training and empowering the physically challenged and economically poor women from rural base and place them in suitable jobs. They are also providing a stipend of Rs. 500/- during the training. These women hail from poor background in rural areas around Madurai. These women are housed in a separate building called Thiyagam Home (which comes under Thiyagam Women Trust), which is rent-free. Currently, Thiyagam Computer Center got few old working computers from an Software Company as donation. To use these computers they required small computer tables. We provided them Five Computer Tables towards the Free Computer Training provided to the economically poor physically challenged women from rural base.

We came to know about a Poor boy Kumaravel N. from Kanchipuram, who needed help for pursuing his education. He was referred & verified by our volunteer Hellan’s sister M. Rebeca Sofiya Joice, who is working as Lecturer in Madras Christian College. Student is doing his 2^nd Year M.Sc., (Chemistry) in Madras Christian College (Evening), East Tambaram, Chennai. Milk for a Poor / Orphan / Semi-Orphan / Destitute Women’s Home

We have been providing 6 Litres of Heritage Full Cream Milk on a daily basis for the past three months to Bharatha Matha Sevai Illam, Nandhiyambakkam, Chennai. At present this organization takes care of nearly 70 inmates (Orphan / Semi-Orphan Children – 60, Destitute Women – 10). We provided 6 Litres of Heritage Full Cream Milk on a daily basis for the month of December 2009 amounting to Rs. 6,300/.

Partial amount paid towards purchase of computer for deserving Poor students from Chennai.

We came to know about two poor girls from a family, who are studying college and needed computer for their academics and projects rather than paying higher fees to do projects / learn computer outside. This project was referred & verified by our volunteer Vinod from Vodafone. His father is working as Van Driver and mother is housewife. They have three girls. They are struggling for their day-to-day needs itself and they had a saving of Rs.5,000/- towards purchasing the computer and we provided the partial amount of Rs. 10,000/- towards the purchase of the Computer.

Project #1

Day-to-Day basic needs provided for New Life Charitable Trust Home (An Home for Old Aged & Orphan Children)

For December 2009 month’s event, we visited New Life Charitable Trust Home @ Eraiyur Village, Near Padappai on 20^th December 2009. At present, this organization takes care of nearly 130 inmates (Old Aged – 65, Orphan Children – 65). We provided Fruits, Oats, Rusk, Biscuits for Old Aged and Savories, Health Mix, Biscuits, Fruits for Children of this home and also a Special Lunch for all the inmates of the home on the day of the visit. We also provided Pomagranate Juices to all the Old Aged inmates (which was prepared by our volunteers). We conducted various games such as Drawing Competition, Balloon Bursting Competition, Talent Show and awarded prizes to the children. We also conducted Ball Pass game for the old aged inmates.

Project #2

Educational Aid for a Poor Student

We came to know about a Poor boy Arun Raj B. who needed help for pursuing his education. He was referred & verified by our volunteer Hemanth Kumar P from Hexaware Technologies. He is doing his B.Sc., (Computer Science) in Nazareth College of Arts & Science, Avadi, Chennai. His father is sick and unable to work and his mother is working as House Maid and is taking care of the whole family. His two younger sisters are studying in schools near his home. Arun Raj’s Final (Sixth) Semester Fees is Rs. 8, 500/- and needed our help for the same. We have provided the Final Semester College Fees of Rs. 8, 500/-.

Project #3

Partial Amount Paid towards buying Land for a Poor & Orphan Home

We have already been helping the Gandhiji Rehabilitation Centre, Chennai regularly for their basic needs. At present this organization takes cares of nearly 25 inmates; almost all of them are poor / orphan / semi-orphan. This home provides free food, shelter, medical care and other basic needs of life to the inmates, besides providing school education to the inmates of the home. Vanarasan, who is the son of the organization’s founder, is taking care of the students. His family members are also playing a vital role in running this organization. Within the last 3 years they have had to change three rented places due to owners not willing to accommodate all the inmates of the home for a longer period of time. Currently, they are living in a rented place at Nemilicheri near Pattabiram. Larsen & Toubro has already committed to build the home if they could provide a land. They were short of Rs. 50,000/- for purchase of a small piece of land. After considering their struggle for rented home, we provided them Rs. 20,000/- as partial amount towards the amount needed for purchase of the land. Now, they have succeeded in procuring the land with the help of kind hearted people.

Special Classes (Tuitions) arranged for a Government School @ Anantapur District, Andhra Pradesh

Our volunteer Narahari had visited a school in a rural area of Andhra Pradesh, named “Mandal Parishath Upper Primary School” at Papampeta in Anantapur District. It is a school run by Andhra Pradesh State Government. There are nearly 330 students of which 65% of the students are girls. 230 Students are studying from 1^st Standard to 5^th Standard and 100 Students are studying from 6^th Standard to 7^th Standard. Most of the student’s parents are daily wage laborers. Parents are allowing them to go to school for the sake of Free Mid-Day Meals only. After the Free Meals, the student’s strength in the classes is reduced by more than half. Parents themselves take the students home after the Free Meals, since they lack awareness of the importance of education. Hence, our first step was to create awareness among the parents as well as the students, about the importance of education by counseling them.

He interacted with Dr. R. Rama Naidu, who is the headmaster of this school and we (“The Origin”) along with our partner organization, India Sudar Educational and Charitable Trust (www.indiasudar.org), organized an Interaction / Counseling session for the parents of the students on October 2009. Many parents discussed about their problems and their needs. After we counseled the parents, many parents burst into tears and promised that they will give 100% effort and support for their children’s Education. After hearing them we strongly believe that this meeting has created great impact and acted like a catalyst in increasing their desperation towards their kid’s education. Most of the parents complained that the Tuition Fees was a burden. They have requested for Free Tuitions in the evening for their children. We arranged two tutors for this purpose from 18^th November 2009. Our volunteer Narahari’s Mother is also taking free tuitions in addition to the two tutors arranged by us. We would like to take this opportunity to thank her for the same.

Project #1

A Month’s Provision and Uniform Stitching Charges for Anbagam Orphanage Home, Dindigul (For the Living Care of HIV Affected Women & Children)

For November 2009 month’s event, we visited Anbagam Orphange Home, which is also called as DACS (Dindigul AIDS Control Society). There are nearly 60 children, in which most of them are affected by HIV (Affected - Either Father (or) Mother of the Child died because of HIV, relations are not ready to adopt) and few of them are themselves infected by HIV. Most of the children in the home are below 9 years. This home provides free food, shelter, medical care and education for the children. We provided a Month’s Provision for the home. We also provided Stitching Charges of Uniform Set for 22 children, Special Lunch, Biscuits, Fruits and Savories. We conducted various games such as Drawing Competition, Balloon Bursting Competition, etc. and awarded prizes for the children.

Food Expenses for Poor Physically Challenged Working Women of Thiyagam Women’s Trust, Madurai

Currently, Thiyagam Women Trust is providing the free accommodation to the Physically Challenged Working Women, who are hailing from poor background in rural areas around Madurai. They are collecting Rs.400/- towards providing food for the physically challenged women who are working in the Thiyagam Tailoring Unit and also Thiyagam Computer Centre. Now they are planning to stop collecting money from the physically challenged working women & women under training, for providing food. They needed some helping hand to take care of the food provided to these women. So, from this month onwards we will take care of the Food Expenses for the 10 poor Physically Challenged Working Women for a period of Six months (November 2009 – April 2010).

Reader arranged for a Visually Challenged Home @ Rural Areas of Anantapur District, Andhra Pradesh

We already know about this home (Andha Mahila Aasramamu @ Kurugunta Village, Anantapur District of Andhra Pradesh). At present, this organization takes care of nearly 15 Visually Challenged Girls from age 15 to 30. This home provides free food, shelter, and other basic needs of life to the inmates. 6 girls are studying 10^th Standard, 8 girls are studying 11^th Standard and one girl is pursuing her degree. Last month we had provided them a month’s provision. These students are struggling to learn their lessons due to the non-availability of Readers, since this home lies in a rural area. So, from this month onwards we arranged a Reader to read the subjects for the Visually Challenged Girls on a daily basis for 2 hours for a period of Six months (November 2009 – April 2010).

Day-To-Day Basic Needs for a Visually Challenged Women’s Home @ Tondiarpet, Chennai.

Tamil Nadu Association for the Visually Challenged Women Home situated at Tondiarpet, Chennai, provides free food, shelter for the 50 blind women (25 – Working Women, 25 – College Students). Working women are doing various works such as making of Note Books / Office Files / Box Files / Medical Covers / Letter Covers / Candles, etc in the workshop attached to the home itself. We came to know that there is a urgent need for their day-to-day basic needs. We provided them day-to-day basic needs such as Bath Soaps, Washing Soaps, Washing Powder, Hair Oil, Face Powder, Tooth Brush and Tooth Paste.

Educational Aid for a Sri Lankan Refugee Camp Student

We came to know about a Poor girl Saimanila K. who needed help for pursuing her education. She was referred by our partner organization “India Sudar Educational and Charitable Trust” (www.indiasudar.org), Chennai and verified by Mr. Udhaya Kumar (From India Sudar). She is doing her B.Sc., (Information Technology) in Nadar Mahajana Sangam, N.M.S.S. Vellaichamy Nadar College, Nagamalai, Madurai. Her father is not living with them and her mother is working as Daily Wage Laborer and is taking care of the whole family. They are living in the Sri Lankan Refugee Camp @ Sivakasi. Her elder sister (Gokila) is working in Office at Indira Gandhi International Academy (which is providing Free Education for the Sri Lankan Refugees), Bangalore. Her three younger sisters are living in the Sri Lankan Refugee Camp are studying the in the nearby Government Schools. Saimanila’s Second Semester Fees is Rs. 16,000/- and needed our help for the same. We have provided the Second Semester College Fees of Rs. 16,000/-. Our Special thanks to India Sudar Educational and Charitable Trust for successful completion of this project.

A Month’s Provision for a Poor / Orphan / Mentally Retarded / Physically Challenged / Old Aged / Visually Challenged Home with 200 inmates

For October 2009 month’s event, we visited Shri Ramakrishna Aathmalayam, Cholavaram, Chennai. At present, this organization takes care of nearly 200 inmates, who are Poor / Orphan / Mentally Retarded / Physically Challenged / Old Aged / Visually Challenged. This home provides free food, shelter, medical care and other basic needs of life to the inmates, besides providing school education to the children of the home. Children are studying in nearby schools and also in the residential school in the home. We provided a Month’s Provision for the home. We also provided them, Biscuits, Fruits and Savories on our Day of Visit (31^st October 2009). We conducted vVarious games such as Drawing Completion, Balloon Bursting Competition, etc and awarded prizes for the children.

Baby Soaps / Baby Shampoos / Baby Bath Soaps / Washing Soaps / Baby Huggies / Baby Sleeping Rubber Sheets / Fruits for a AIDS Orphan Home with 60 inmates

We had also visited the Community Health Education Society (CHES) (A Shelter Care for AIDS Orphans) on 31st October 2009. There are nearly 50 children, in which most of them are affected by HIV (Affected - Either Father (or) Mother of the Child died because of HIV, relations are not ready to adopt) and few of them are themselves infected by HIV. This home provides free food, shelter, medical care and education for the children till 5th standard in their campus itself. Children who are studying above 5th Standard are going to Schools near the home. Mr.Muthupandi and his wife Mrs.Chitra, are taking care of this home and they are living along with them with their kids. We provided Baby Soaps / Baby Shampoos / Baby Bath Soaps / Washing Soaps / Baby Huggies / Baby Sleeping Rubber Sheets / Fruits. We also conducted Balloon Bursting Competition for the inmates of the home. It was real fun and they enjoyed it very much.

Project #3 – Follow up Project

Unpaid Rent for Three months provided for a Poor/Orphan Children/Old Aged/Mentally Retarded/ Handicapped Home with 13 inmates

We already know this home (“Perumal – Subbaiah Memorial Orphan, Children, Old Aged and Handicapped Home – Karunai Illam”, with 10 inmates) and have already provided a month’s provision in May 2009 & August 2009 to this home. Last week we came to know that they have been struggling to pay their rent from September 2009. So, we provided the last three months Rent for this home. (September 2009 – November 2009).

Project #4

Medical Aid for a Poor, Old aged and Orphan inmate of New Life Charitable Trust, Padappai.

We came to know about Mr. Parameswaran, a 60 years old man, who is suffering from various ailments and also had a fall recently due to which he suffered a fracture. Doctors advised immediate operation on his spinal cord for his recovery. Since he would not be able to bear the Operation (being an orphan and inmate of New Life Charitable Trust) cost of Rs. 32,000/-, we provided Rs. 10,000/- as partial amount towards the operation cost. Since then, he has been operated upon and the doctors have said that he is recovering. We also attached the patient’s photo along with the Discharge Summary issued by the hospital.

Educational Aid for a Visually Challenged Student

We came to know about a Visually Challenged Student Renuka N, who needs help for pursuing her education. She was referred by our partner organization “Disha Foundation”, Chennai and verified by their members Suganthi & Dharmalakshmi. She is doing B.Ed., in “Our Lady Madha College of Education”, Maduravoyal. She hails from Krishnapuram Village near Trichy. Her father is the sole bread-winner and is a farmer. She has three elder sisters, out of whom one is Visually Challenged named Radhika (Disha Foundation is already providing the educational aid for her). Renuka’s Total College fees is Rs. 50,000/- out of which she has got government scholarship for Rs. 10,000/- and is hoping to get bank loan of another Rs. 10,000/- Hence she is falling short of Rs. 30,000/- and needs our help for the same. We have provided the partial College Fees of Rs. 10,000/-. Our Special thanks to Disha Foundation Team (Ravi, Suganthi, Dharmalakshmi) for taking up the project and coordinating successfully.

At present, this organization takes care of nearly 70 inmates (Orphan / Semi-Orphan Children – 60, Destitute Women – 10). ). This home provides free food, shelter, medical care and other basic needs of life to the inmates, besides providing school education to orphan children of the home. Children are studying in the nearby Government Schools. We provided a Month’s Provision for the home. We also provided Flask, Emergency Lamp, Torch Light, Pencil, Eraser, Sharpener, Biscuits, Chocolates, etc. We spent some time with the children, by interacting and playing with them.

At present this organization takes cares of nearly 25 inmates; almost all of them are orphan / semi-orphan. On the occasion of Deepavali festival, we provided them Special Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner along with the Crackers.

Savories / Crackers / Ice – Creams for a Visually Challenged Women’s Home @ Tondiarpet, Chennai.

Note Books / Pens / Inner Wears for a Children’s Home for Girls

For August 2009 month’s event, we visited Government Children’s Home for Girls on 30^th Aguust 2009. At present, this organization takes care of nearly 210 children who are poor, orphan, missing, abandoned, neglected, destitute and delinquent and Women who are victims of immoral trafficking from the age of 5 years to 18 years are brought to the Government Children’s Home for Girls. We provided Note Books / Pens / Inner Wears / Biscuits / Chocolates / Savories / Ice Creams. We also provided them Hair Clip, Earrings, Bangles, Sticker Bindhi for the girls, who were very happy on receiving the same. We conducted various games such as Drawing Completion, Balloon Bursting Competition, Anthakshari, Talent Show, etc. We spent some time with the children, by interacting, playing, with them. All the volunteers who had the opportunity to visit the home were overwhelmed on seeing the children happy and enjoying themselves.

At present this organization takes care of nearly 70 inmates (Orphan / Semi-Orphan Children – 60, Destitute Women – 10). Earlier there were 50 inmates. Now, we are providing them 6 Litres of Heritage Full Cream Milk on a daily basis, which will be for the next three months amounting to Rs. 6324.00 per month..

Subject Guides / Stationeries / Partial Amount towards Revised Advance of the Rental Home for a Poor/Orphan/Semi-Orphan Children Home

We have already provided a month’s provision in February 2009 to Gandhiji Rehabilitation Centre, Poonamallee, Chennai. At present this organization takes cares of nearly 25 inmates; almost all of them are orphan / semi-orphan. Last week we came to know that they were struggling to pay the New Revised Advance for the rental home, where they are residing. Hence, we have provided a partial amount of Rs. 10,000/- towards revised advance for the rental home. In addition to that, we provided them Subject Guides along with stationeries for the inmates of the home.

School Fees and a Month’s Provision for the Mentally Challenged / Orphan Home

For July 2009 month’s event, we had visited Samarpana (Home for Mentally Challenged & Spastics) on 26^th July 2009. At present, this organization takes care of nearly 51 (Mentally Challenged – 45 & Orphans – 6). We provided a Month’s Provision, Breakfast, Dinner and Ice Cream. We also provided Monthly School Fees for 4 Orphan children consolidated for the whole year. We spent some time with the children, by interacting, playing, dancing with them. All the volunteers who had the opportunity to visit the home were overwhelmed on seeing the mentally challenged children, and on hearing about the difficulties faced by them in their day-to-day tasks. All the care is taken by the management of the home and they are nursed with love and affection which they greatly require.

We came to know about a girl Susithra P. from a poor family, referred by our volunteer Sumeetha, who was struggling to pay her 1^st Year College Fees due to financial problem. Her father is working as Security in Kaiser Pvt. Ltd., (Contract Basis) and he is earning Rs.2,000/- per month and her mother is also working as Helper in Zaida Clothings and she is earning Rs.2,000/- per month. She had scored 90.3% in HSC Examination and 83.5% in SSLC Examination. We have provided the partial 1^st Year College Fees of Rs. 5,000/-. We have also arranged partial College Fees of Rs. 10,000/- through our partner organization “Dream India 2020” (www.dreamindia2020.org). Our special thanks to Mr. Natarajan Raman, Managing Trustee of Dream India 2020.

Her father is working as Cobbler. She is studying Final Year B.Com in Shrimathi Devkunvar Nanalal Bhatt Vaishnav College For Women, Chromepet, Chennai. Month’s Provision and Rent provided for a Poor/Orphan Children/Old Aged/Mentally Retarded/ Handicapped Home

We already know this home (“Perumal – Subbaiah Memorial Orphan, Children, Old Aged and Handicapped Home – Karunai Illam”, with 10 inmates) and have already provided a month’s provision in May 2009. Last week we came to know that they were struggling for their day-to-day needs. We visited the home and provided them with Provisions, Cooking Oil along with the Rent for three months. We are also planning to take care of their monthly provision needs hereafter along with the rent.

Subject Guides for a Poor/Orphan/Semi-Orphan Children

Last week we visited a Poor/Orphan/Semi-Orphan Home (Adi Dravida Samooga Sevagar Sangam, Manavar Illam). At present, this organization takes care of 75 inmates. This home provides free food, shelter, medical care and other basic needs to the inmates. These children are studying in nearby corporation schools. They need special coaching classes and subject guides. We had provided the Subject Guides for students studying from 9^th Standard – 12^th Standard. Already our partner organization “India Sudar Educational and Charitable Trust” (www.indiasudar.org) had arranged Special Coaching Classes for the children studying 10^th Standard.

Name Chosen for our Monthly Event Team

We, monthly event team members, formally met during the June month event regarding choosing a name for our Monthly Event Team. Finally, the name “The Origin” was selected unanimously. Hereafter our activity and our group will be referred to by this name.

June 2009 - Monthly Event

We had gathered together at Thiru Vi. Ka High School, Shenoy Nagar, Chennai for the June 2009 month’s event to provide educational aid to the Differently Abled / Children of Differently Abled / Poor Children. We provided School Fees / Uniforms / Note Books for 38 Children. We also entertained them by conducting various games such as Musical Chair, Talent Show, Blind Fold Games, Balloon Bursting Competition and Anthakshari. We provided Lunch along with Snacks, Biscuits and Chocolates to the beneficiaries and their parents who had accompanied them for the event. The Children enjoyed the day and had fun.

Our sincere thanks to Mr. Aarokiya Dass, who himself is a Differently Abled Person and is the founder of Snegithan (It is a Registered Non Profit Trust who are providing assistance and guidance for the Differently Abled and Poor People), who helped us to identify the beneficiaries and gathered them for the event.

School Fees for 16 Children & Footwear for 22 Children of a Poor Orphan Home

We also provided School Fees for 16 children and Footwear for 22 children of Gandhiji Rehabilitation Centre, Poonamallee, Chennai (At present this organization takes cares of nearly 25 inmates; almost all of them are orphan / semi-orphan. This home provides free food, shelter, medical care and other basic needs of life to the inmates, besides providing school education).

Individual Educational Aid

We came to know about a boy Naveen Kumar from a poor family, referred by our volunteer Annapoorani, is going to discontinue his studies after completing her 10^th Standard successfully, due to financial problem. He lost his father and his mother is affected with cancer. He scored 393 out of 500 (88.6%) in SSLC Examination. We have provided School Fees for his 11^th Standard along with the Uniforms amounting to Rs. 5,000/-. Last month we had provided educational aid to this boy’s elder sister.

We appreciate your valuable Suggestions/Comments about the event to plan and improve our future events. The excess amount of Rs. 37,613.10 would be utilized for July 2009 month’s event.

We had visited Udhavum Ullangal Illam (Old Age & Children’s Home) situated near Singaperumal Koil on 31^st May 2009. We provided School Fees, Uniforms, Bags, Shoes, Chappals for 34 Children and Medicines, Health Food & Drinks for 28 Old Aged Women. We also provided Cooking Oil, Special Lunch, Ice Creams, Sweets, Savories, Biscuits, Chocolates for all the inmates of the home. We also entertained them by conducting various games like Drawing Competition, Balloon Bursting Competition, Anthakshari, Hide & Seek Games for Children and Ball Pass Game for Elders. It was real fun and they said, that was one of the happiest day in their lives and they had never enjoyed this much. We were all really happy to hear these words from them especially since all the contributors & volunteers had taken these efforts only to make this a Special day for them.

Educational Aid #1

We came to know that N. Meena, a girl from a poor family referred by our volunteer Annapoorani, is going to discontinue her studies after completing her 11^th Standard (Plus One) successfully, due to financial problem. She lost her father and her mother is affected with cancer. She scored 470 out of 500 (94%) in SSLC Examination. We have provided School Fees for her 12^th Standard along with the Uniforms amounting to Rs. 5,600/-

Educational Aid #2

We came to know about a boy named R. Praveen Kumar from a poor family referred by our volunteer Revathy, who has lost his father. His mother is working as a house maid. We have provided School Fees for his 6^th Standard along with the Uniforms amounting to Rs. 5,130/-

Educational Aid #3

We came to know about a girl named S. Kanchana hailing from a poor family referred by our volunteer Senthil Kumar, who is unable to pay the school fees since her father is working as a sweeper. We have provided School Fees for her 10^th Standard amounting to Rs. 2,700/-

Educational Aid #4

We came to know about a girl named R. Anitha from a poor family referred by our volunteer Senthil Kumar, who is unable to pay the school fees since her father is working as a gardener in a private school. We have provided School Fees for her 3^rd Standard amounting to Rs. 2,000/-

Basic Aid for a Poor Orphan Children / Old Aged / Mentally Retarded / Handicapped Home

During the last month’s event at Women’s Blind Home, we got a chance to meet the founder (A. Selvi) of a home named “Perumal – Subbaiah Memorial Orphan, Children, Old Aged and Handicapped Home – Karunai Illam”, with 10 inmates (which includes Orphan Children, Mentally Retarded and Old Aged People). She informed us that they were struggling for their day-to-day needs. We visited the home and provided them with Provisions, Cooking Oil, School Uniforms, School Bags, Shoes, Note Books and Stationeries.

Play Material donated to an Orphan & Downtrodden Children’s Home

We provided Play materials for the vacation period to Government Children Home for Boys (Orphan and downtrodden Children’s home) @ Chengelpet, which has 180 inmates. We hope that this spreads cheer and fun among the Orphan and Downtrodden Children.
