Uh-oh.  It seems that the upload site… um… Megaupload has been shut down just hours after the massive online protest against the SOPA and PIPA travesties in Congress right now.  Even

though the owners of the site are not U. S. citizens, the U. S. Government saw fit to shut them down anyway, possibly to prove a point.  Even though both SOPA and PIPA seem to be losing ground (because of the protest?), some are speculating that the shut down of Megaupload was a power play, to show what the government can and will do.

Lest the Otakuologist be accused of bias, it should be known that the executive named in the indictment is a known cyber-criminal Kim “Kimble” Schmitz.  However, the American CEO of the company, rapper Swizz Beatz was not named.

So I just finished my first pass at Katawa Shoujo, and I have to admit, I’m a fan.  Who’d have thought a bunch of US fanboys could come up with a story so complex?  I actually caught

For those of you who don’t know what the hell I’m talking about, “Katawa Shoujo” is a kind of game popular among the Japanese known as a “Visual Novel.”  It’s kind of a “Choose your own adventure” kind of thing, except it’s software instead of a book.

Anyway, KS is unique in a few ways: It was produced here in the states by some users of 4chan and other communities, and what makes it more unique is it’s subject matter.  It’s an eroge based on characters who are handicapped in some way or another.

You might expect that it’s just chock full of nothing but cripple sex, but that could not be farther from the truth.  There’s an actual story here, folks.  A complex and engaging story that made me do the fist pump described earlier.  This is not fetish work.  This is a great game that I thouroghly enjoyed.  Sure I had to leap over a few of my own prudish barriers when it came to the sex but I quickly got over it when I realized that the sex wasn’t about sex, but about love.

Uh oh, my secret is out.  I’m a romantic.

Whatever.  I encourage everyone to go out and try this game so you can see what I’m talking about for yourself.

I let slip that a character named “Emi” asked a character named “Hisao” to kiss her, but that’s not the only story.  I’m beginning my second run and it seems that I’ll be sending my man Hisao into the arms of another girl pretty soon.

Christmas in Japan is more like Valentine’s day than it is about the birth of a carpenter who was tortured and killed for simply saying that people should start being a little nicer to each other.

And for the otaku in Japan it’s more than a little creepy.  Due to our natural anti-social tendencies we tend to relate better to 2-D girls better than their 3-D counterparts.

Sankaku Complex has once again revealed the the mindset of the otaku by posting three holiday posts showing how ubernerds celebrate in Nihon.

With SOPA and the NDAA being pushed so hard in Congress and with almost nobody talking about it, I thought that this video was appropriate.  Somehow it seems to fit.  Pay attention.

Bad taste, or just ugly as hell?

According to Sankaku Complex, a skyscraper has been built in Seoul, Korea that looks a little too much like the Twin Towers just after the planes hit.

Nicknamed “The Cloud” because of it’s strange connection between the two buildings that resemble an explosion, even people who haven’t made the connection between the skyscrapers and 9/11 think it’s just plain ugly.

That’s right, Otaku America is looking for cosplayers who want to share their love of the fabric in front of the camera.  They want to pick up some feedback on what makes so many people of different ethnic, and economic backgrounds come together to show off their work.  If you’re into this, then you have a couple of options:

1. Like “Glomp Me” on Facebook (You’ll have to look for it, I can’t find it)

I’m not gay, but if I were, I would totally man-stalk George Takei for the following reasons: 

1. He removed my childhood phobia of Asians.  Yes, from birth to about the age of five, I was violently afraid of anyone who even looked Asian.  About that time I saw my first Star Trek rerun saw that not only were Asians not to be feared… they might just save yer ass (I realize this makes me look like a racist boob, and I’m sorry).
2. He made me realize that my crappy life wasn’t all that bad.  I mean, I never had to spend part of my childhood in a freakin’ internment camp!
3. He is bringing Trek/Wars fans together, as evidenced by the following video…
