I was building a diorama the other time, when I wanted to have some spent shell casing litter on the base. I thought of cutting small shell size from those 0.75mm plastic rods, when I tumbled upon Secret Weapons’ spent shell casing. I immediately ordered some to check it out.

I got the Spent Shell Casing Standard and the Spent Shell Casing Infantry. The standard Shell casing can be used to represent shells fired from the bolter or bolt pistol. The Infantry casing can be used to represent shells maybe fired from the heavy bolters or the auto cannon or so. First impression for the shells when I got them, the standard shells are really small, but the infantry shells are still reasonably sized. The shells are detailed with a hollow in the center and a ring groove around it, like real shells.

The standard shells are a bit tiny to manage. Clipping off from the sprue needs to be very careful or otherwise they will be really spent shells lying somewhere lost. Once clipped, cleaning or filling off the flashes can be tricky. I use a tweezer and try to rub the shells against the file to file off the flashes. This is much easier than holding the shell and moving the file to file the shell. The infantry shell is much easier to manage as the size is slightly bigger than the standard one. Overall, I am pretty happy with the shells, especially with the hollow in the center and the details. And… now… Fire!… Shells littered everywhere… haha!

In a flash as far as I recalled, I was like starting the week and now its already Saturday. Well, this week been a really really bad week to start. Had not been able to pick up my brushes after I was done with my Sedition Wars. Started off the week with a bad fever which lasted for few days, and on top of that, I had to struggle to get some of my work done as well. Fever, work, guess the next important thing thats on my mind that I needed most was rest. So when there was time, I dropped dead on the bed to regenerate myself… haha. Guess with only three things, fever, work, sleep, for this week, no wonder it flashes fast past with no warning at all. With recovery done, guess its time to be back to the brushes and the miniature world.

With flashes past fast, I also forgotten all about the Vampire Counts new releases. Seem like I will have to plan to get them later on, and sort out my Vampire Counts Army list with the new Army book. But for sure, I am gonna get the Black Knights. Been waiting for a good sculpt for skeleton horses, and its time! The next question is how many to field in an unit?… Guess that answer will be in the new Army book.

Meantime, still sorting some work and dying to get back to some painting action though. Most likely will be working on my Space Marines and Ork for a contest. My Dark Eldar Wyches have been KIV for a long while, unit of 10, only 2 are done. Now, let me get to The Painting Shop and hold my brushes, been a while…. Cheers!

Finally managed to get my Sedition Wars entries for the Studio Mcvey Sedition War contest. Been spending this week trying to complete it. Yes, and its finally all done, and a sure sense of satisfaction.

Next would be to get the rest of the Sedition War Vanguard squad to form a squad. I am planning to create a small terrain to stand the squad of Vanguards.

Before I started the Sedition War painting, been cracking my brain on what should a science fiction uniform colour scheme would look like. After much searching, was pretty inspired by Starship trooper uniform colour scheme, so I just played around with shades of black and grey.

Both Captain Kara and Akosha base are built using plastic cards and brass etch sheet. I was afraid that the brass etch sheet I ordered from Hasslefree would not be in time for this usage. But it came just in time, and was put to good use.

The idea I had for Akosha is a sniper camouflage. Since its science fiction, thought the team would have some sort of advanced cloaking camouflage technology for the sniper. Camo on, Akosha creeps into a corner of the old worn steel lodge sector XII, the camo technology cloaks the walls of the steel lodge.

So much for having a great time painting Captain Kara and Sedition Wars. Oh ya, I still recall I have a limited edition Captain Kara chucked on my shelf… Next on the list, Space Marine and Orks… Stay tuned… Cheers!

Been a busy week, and time sure flies and we are already at the end of the first week of Jan 2012. Finally managed to get some time to ponder what I have done in 2011 and what to accomplish for my upcoming projects in 2012.

I was pretty happy that I was done with most of my Vampire Counts miniatures, with only the Blood Knights and a box of skeleton warriors left. Well, along last year came the Banshee and the Wraiths, and this month Jan, oh no, more new Vampire Counts to come. Guess I will target to get the Blood Knights and horde up my Skeletons Warriors first before looking at the upcoming new releases.

Dark Eldars also caught me up with its new releases in 2011. With only 500pts worth of miniatures painted only, its still a long way when I have about 2000 more points sitting on my shelves. Need more pain!

I think 2011 was a great year where I purchase a quite a few other make and brand of miniatures and kept myself busier with contests. It was great experience and I was exposed to the competitive edges in competitions. I will still continue this competitive edge for competition probably this 2012. Collected quite a few new miniatures in the process of joining all these competitions. Then I must say, I discovered the joy of making diorama though. Sure gives me an opportunity to tell stories with miniatures.

I think for 2012, I will want to work on my tanks and vehicles, Grey Knights’ and Imperial Guards’. Have to test out and experiment new ways to get my tanks done fast as well. Oh ya, maybe I should include my Empire Steam Tank as well, haha. Hopefully will not be distracted too much from more new releases from GW. Cheers!

Just received my christmas present I bought for myself yesterday, my Kingdom Death miniature. Gosh I was really excited about receiving it. The recent new release miniatures were snapped up quickly… and I still regret for hesitating and missing the Flower Knight. Still I managed to get my hands on the General release Savior, limited edition survivor male and female.

As always, opening the Kingdom Death package is always so exciting. The packaging is as usual packed in an impressive nicely sized designed brown box. Included in the box are small card size painting of the miniature and the incredible sculpted miniatures. Postcards of the painting of the miniatures were included as well. The limited edition Survivor male and female postcards were cased in a card case along with the limited edition number.

For the Pinup Savior, her sculpt is simply amazing. The female body is sculpted nicely and proportionally, able to bring the young and vibrant feel to the character. Her weapon and staff are on a separate sprue. They are very refined and intricate, I guess assembling them will need extra careful care. Her legs sculpt has small patches which at first I thought was some moulding defect, but upon looking at the postcard painting and comparing, I realised that it is because she has tear in her stocking. Those patch design on her legs are actually her stocking tear! Simple amazing!

Her short skirt on one side has some thinning and tiny holes in the moulding, which I guess will need some minor touching up. But the skirt is definitely designed in proportion thickness.

The cape she is having is a feather design. The cape is beautifully sculpted with each feather lined up very refinely. The thickness is of a nice reasonable proportion thickness as compared to other make of miniatures with cape design. Because it is thin, it feels very delicate and there are tiny holes along some of the feather strain. But I guess upon painting it, it should be good to portray a feather feel along with the tiny gaps and hole.

For the Female Survivor, her sculpt is as amazing as the pinup savior. The texture feel is much smoother as compared to the savior probably cos of its armour deign and clothes. Her body is sculpted proportionally as well, along with nice and very amazing details of the armour and cloth sculpt. Her weapons and accessories sprue are very refined and detailed as well. One of my favourite is her hair sculpt which I like best. It has these layer design, like a nice salon hairstyle hair cut. What a hairstyle for a survivor! Now the next problem, should she wear the animal skull helmet which is amazing as well, or should she not… hmmm…

For the Male Survivor, his body attire and accessories are amazingly detailed with very refine texture. His clothe has tiny details of torn and tear, and those leather belts and buckle are simply detailed. The axe has a fine detailed wear and tear texture on it. On the body sculpt as compared to the female survivor, I feel he is a bit burly and slightly bigger than the female survivor in term of proportion.

Overall the miniatures have quite a few moulding flashes this time but cleaning it up should not be any issue. I am definitely looking forward to painting them. Meantime, let me have a second look at the miniatures again, they are amazing! Cheers!

Oh no… guess by now, everyone would have heard of the next new exciting release from Games Workshop! Vampire Counts! More pictures and stuff can be found on most of the blogs and on BOLs…

First, the trend in Warhammer Fantasy recent is each army having a huge monstrous unit of something. I am not surprised that Vampire Count is getting its hugh monster unit. The Coven Throne / Mortis Engine is amazing, simply amazing. The sculpt is so cool with all its undead ethereal host ferrying the Vampires Lords or so. Definitely cant wait to get a hold of it and paint.

The other unit that is definitely my favourite is the Black Knights / Hexwraiths. When I first saw it, this is what I would call a cool skeleton horses! The sculpt looks good, and I am definitely getting them for my Black Knights, which I have been searching for a good skeleton horses to convert for sooo long. I read, seem like Black Coach will not have any new sculpt. It would be cool to have a new Black Coach to add on to my current Black Coach. As for Isabella, she is definitely gonna accompany my Vampire Lord… haha.

I am still not so keen on the ghouls and zombies sort, cos my Vampire Army is base on all skeleton warriors of all sort, with lots of bats. Speaking of bats, wonder will there be any new rules or miniatures for the bats or so… Hmmm….

I have been thinking about base a lot recently. Wanted to have a modern urban base or sort for my Sedition Wars miniatures. Been looking at couples of brands and design for base. Just too many to choose from.

Then I thought why don’t I test and make a base of my own. I imagined my base having a steel plating flooring. Took some tamiya 1.5mm plastic cards and trim it to the size of a typical base. Took the base and scratch it on a rough ground surface to create some texture and scratches. Score a shallow groove on it and glue some small dot of 0.75mm rods dot to represent rivets.

Got it painted with Citadel Gunmetal, washed with Bedab Black, followed by dry brushed of Mithril Silver. Wash the edges with tiny amount of Sephia to have the rust feel. And, wow, I got a steel plated base. But the base does feel kind of blank, think I will run through my bits and see what I can enhanced it with. Probably I will use this tested base and enhanced it as an objective marker.

Now that my test seems good, Hmm… planning for some science fiction steel plating corridors terrain or diorama…. Cheers!
