Title: Deal with the Devil

Comic ID: PBF004-Deal with the Devil

Comic Summary: A man sees a dead bird. The devil appears to make a deal with the man. The man wishes and gets a longer penis.

Panel 1: A man sees a dead bird on the ground. With a sad face, he thinks of the bird when it was alive.

Panel 2: The devil suddenly appears and makes a proposition with the man.

Panel 3: The man and devil make a pact and shake on it.

Panel 4: The man excitedly gesticulates for he now has a long and giant penis.

Analysis: This comic builds up an expectation but then demolishes it and this is why we find it funny. In the first panel we see a dead bird and a man saddened by it. When the devil appears and makes a deal with the man, we expect the man to wish for the bird to be alive again since he seemed so sad previously. However, if one were given a choice to have any wish they pleased…would they choose to bring a bird to life when there are so many other more appealing options they could exercise? Finally, in the final panel we see the man, clearly ecstatic, triumphantly showcasing his giant, if not grossly long, penis. Many have heard the phrase “bigger is better” but this man has clearly taken it a bit too far. Imagine the chaffing one would get with such a penis dragging along everywhere one went.

Bed Monster

Title: Bed Monster

Comic ID: PBF003-Bed_Monster

Comic Summary: Father bids his son goodnight and leaves. A monster eats the son and pays the father.

Panel 1: A child is tucked in bed. He asks his father to check for monsters under his bed. The father tells the son not to worry.

Panel 2: The father has left and closes the door. A monster jumps out and attacks the child. Blood spurts.

Panel 3: The monster, sitting at the foot of the bed pays the father money.

Analysis: The main humorous element in this comic is based on the contrast between panel 1 and panel 3. The contrast between panel 1 & 2 does have an element of humor in it, but it is not much. Panel 1 shows the common (in our culture at least) scene of a child asking their parents to check for imaginary monsters in their room. The most likely places monsters can hide are either under the bed or in the closet. Note how the father doesn’t actually check under the bed but tells his son to not worry and go to bed. Once the father leaves, the monster attacks. Panel 3 shows that the child was completely eaten. The monster paying the father indicates that this was a prearranged murder and that there was an agreement between the two: The feeding on the father’s son in exchange for cash. Comparing panel 3 with panel 1 we see the contrast that lends this comic its humor. The father is supposed to protect the son, but he is actually in on the murder of his son by a monster. Not only that, he is getting paid for it.

Stiff Breeze

Title: Stiff Breeze

Comic ID: PBF001-Stiff Breeze

Comic Summary: A woman is picking flowers. There is a strong breeze that blows up her dress. The cloud above her takes the form of an erect penis.

Panel 1: A woman is looking at a flower in her hand as she kneels on a hill with a tree next to her and a cloud in the clear blue sky.

Panel 2: The woman bends lower to pick a flower.

Panel 3: A stiff breeze blows up her dress exposing her buttocks and undergarments. The cloud above her takes the form of an erect penis complete with testicles.

Panel 4: The woman holds down her dress and looks up at the cloud after the passing of the breeze. Two flowers lay pulled by her side.

Analysis: The humor of this comic begins within the third panel. Panels 1 & 2 only create the setting. The setting being a calm and normal day with a beautiful sky and a clearly beautiful woman picking flowers. This sense of normalcy lasts for the first two panels until panel 3 wherein the once run-of-the-mill cloud morphs into its phallic shape. Evidently this is no normal cloud and, without going out on a limb, one can safely assume that the cloud is the cause for the breeze that lifted the woman’s dress. While this comic may have been funny sans the panel 4, the transition from panel 3 to 4 adds even more humor when we see that the women, clearly perturbed, holds down her dress and looks up at the cloud. You can almost see the suspicion and annoyance in her face.
