The Nene has endured a long struggle against extinction. During the 1940s, this beautiful species was almost wiped out by laws which allowed the birds to be hunted during their winter breeding seasons when the birds were the most vulnerable.

Ukumehame Beach,This is a great beach for surfers and stand-up paddlers alike. A number of reefs off shore produce some really nice waves for surfing. There are at least 5 or more areas along this coast line that are great surfing spots. Put It On Your Wall

Rain at Hamoa

A rainy morning at Hamoa Bay. The sun kept hiding behind the clouds and would come out for only a minute or two. Didn’t seem to bother the surfers in the water or the people on the beach but I had to keep the camera dry.

Early morning right before the rain started. Amazing coastline, the peninsula sticks right out into the ocean, and is surrounded by jagged lava rocks as seen in the foreground. Not exactly a swimming beach but beautiful none the less.
