How can you not love this woman? The First Lady is on the cover of the April edition of Vogue Magazine. Mrs. Obama along with the President open up about their goals for the 2nd term along with more personal items like their marriage and parenting skills. The article was pretty interesting and included a couple of new tidbits that we haven’t heard before. Below are a couple of my favorite quotes.

FLOTUS comments on Pres. Obama’s cool demeanor: “That was one of the things I was worried about: How would politics affect this very decent, genuine, noble individual? And there is just something about his spirit that allows all that stuff to stay on the outside.”

Pres. Obama comments on FLOTUS: “There’s no doubt I’m a better man having spent time with Michelle. I would never say that Michelle’s a better woman, but I will say she’s a little more patient.”

From Valerie Jarrett:  “They had a very good marriage going in, but it strengthened it because, well, it’s tested it. He has had some really, really tough moments in the White House, and the fact that his partner in this journey has been so steadfastly in his corner and never wavered, it teaches you every day to appreciate what you have. When you’ve had a really tough day and had to make the kinds of literally life-and-death decisions that he’s had to make in the Oval Office, to come home and know you’re safe and that your children are being well taken care of and you feel totally nurtured. . . . We joke about this: He goes home for dinner and no one’s interested in his day. They want to talk about their day. And that is such a relief. And she manages that for him.”

Also on of my all-time favorite quotes from the First Lady and a habit that I am trying to instill in my own life: ”…I’ve made changes in my life, it’s just sort of stepping back and seeing a change not as something to guard against but as a wonderful addition . . . that can make life fun and unexpected. Oftentimes, it’s the way we react to change that is the thing that determines the overall experience. So I’ve learned to let go and enjoy it and take it in and not take things too personally.”

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was chosen as part of Barbara Walter’s annual special recognizing the most fascinating people of the year. The interview was quite interesting and of course Barbara Walters asked her if she would run for president, and if so, was she too old at 67, the age she would be in 2016.

‘I am, thankfully, knock on wood, not only healthy, but have incredible stamina and energy,” she stated in response to the question.

President Obama along with First Lady Michelle Obama were on hand tonight to light the White House National Christmas Tree. Actor Neil Patrick Harris hosted the ceremony that lasted a little over an hour and Malia and Sasha Obama, along with Michelle Obama’s mother, Marian Robinson were all on hand at the 90th celebration. The annual tradition also included singing from Jason Mraz, Ledisi, James Taylor, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Colbie Caillat and Phillip Phillip and book reading from Modern Family’s Rico Rodriquez. Pres. Obama noted to a crowd of over 17,000 guests,  ”We’ve been lighting the national Christmas tree for 90 years, in times of war and peace, trial and tragedy. We always come together to rejoice the Christmas miracle.”

In case you were wondering, celebrities are just like us. Actress Meryl Streep was spotted taking a picture with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the Kennedy Center Honorees at the State Department in Washington, D.C., on Saturday night and she was in town to support the recipients. Streep is no stranger with Sec. Hillary Clinton – as she was the recipient of a Kennedy Center medallion last year.

The 2012 Kennedy Center Honors were held tonight at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. If you are not familiar with the annual gala, the Honors celebrate and recognize individuals for their lifetime contributions to American culture through the performing arts-whether in music, dance, theater, opera, motion pictures, or television-are selected by the Center’s Board of Trustees. 

This year’s honorees this year include: bluesman Buddy Guy, actor and director Dustin Hoffman, comedian and television host David Letterman, ballerina Natalia Makarova, and rock band Led Zeppelin. Pres. Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama first hosted the honorees at the White House before they were toasted and thanked at the Kennedy Center. The honorees also received their official medallions on Saturday at the State Department from Sec. Clinton. And just in case you were not invited to the 35th annual celebration, don’t fret because CBC will air a two-hour special on December 26.

While making remarks after her re-election, she noted that she had spoken to Pres. Obama after the election and he noted, ““Nancy, with my re-election, we have protected all of the accomplishments we achieved together.” We concur with the President! Congrats Leader Pelosi!

Pres. Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama were joined by Vice President Joe Biden and Jill Biden to celebrate Veteran’s Day last Sunday at Arlington National Cemetery. Even while honoring our military, of course our first and second lady managed to stay stylish as well. I was immediately struck by Jill Biden’s ensemble. She paired a blue dress with a blue overcoat and even stepped out in blue bumps! The First Lady also looked radiant in a black dress and coat, accented by a gray over-sized bow and black Mary Janes. 

Look who was spotted on Capitol Hill today? None other than newly elected Elizabeth Warren and Tammy Baldwin, who were in town to attend a freshman luncheon. Elizabeth Warren was reelected last week in Massachusetts by defeating one term Republican senator Scott Brown. Tammy Baldwin was elected as a senator in Wisconsin, replacing Herb Kohl, who announced his intent to retire last May. Tammy will be the first openly gay person to be elected to the Senate and the first female elected to represent Wisconsin in the Senate.

Elizabeth Warren defeated incumbent Republican Scott Brown tonight to win a seat in the Senate for Massachusetts. Elizabeth Warren, who first gained prominence after setting up the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, also made history tonight as the first women from Massachusetts to serve in the Senate. 

“To everyone who shared your hopes and dreams with me and put your faith in my ability to fight for you, I want you to know this. I will never forget, I will always carry your stories with me in my heart.” – Elizabeth Warren 

Pres. Barack Obama won re-election tonight and will stay in the White House for four more years. Pres. Obama defeated Republican Mitt Romney in a tight race that came down to a couple of swing states including Ohio, Colorado, Iowa, Virginia and Florida. As of this morning, Pres. Obama had won 303 Electoral College votes and was winning in the popular vote by 50,000.

Pres. Obama delivered his victory speech in his hometown of Chicago and was came out to the sounds of Stevie Wonder’s “Sign, Sealed, Delivered” as he took to the stage.
