Malacañan Palace has released the official list of Regular Holidays and Special Non-Working days for 2026, signed on September 3, 2025 by virtue of Proclamation 1006, containing the list of holidays for next year.

Based on the proclamation released, the following dates are declared regular holidays and special non-working days:

Proclamation 1006 declares Feb. 25, 2026 (Wednesday) as a special working day, in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution, which ushered in “political, social, and economic reforms in the country.”

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is directed to issue the implementing guidelines for the proclamation, which takes effect immediately.

According to Proclamation 1006, the proclamations declaring national holidays for the observance of Eidul Fitr and Eidul Adha will be issued after the approximate dates of the Islamic holidays have been determined in accordance with the Islamic calendar (Hijra) or the lunar calendar, or upon Islamic astronomical calculations, whichever is applicable.

The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos will recommend to the President the actual dates on which these holidays will respectively fall.

Under the proclamation, Feb. 17. 2026 may be declared as a special (non-working) day without detriment to public interest, as Chinese New Year is one of the “most revered and festive events” celebrated not only in China but also in the Philippines.

The proclamation states that Black Saturday, which falls on April 4, 2026, has been traditionally declared a special non-working nationwide, in observance of Holy Week, which is regarded as “one of the most cherished traditions of our predominantly Catholic people.”

By virtue of Republic Act 9256, Aug. 21 of every year is declared a national non-working holiday to commemorate the death anniversary of former Senator Benigno S. Aquino Jr.

Dec. 8 of every year is celebrated as a special non-working holiday in the entire country to commemorate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary.

According to Proclamation 1006, declaring Nov. 2, 2026 (Monday) and Dec. 24, 2026 (Thursday) as additional special non-working days throughout the country “will strengthen family ties by providing more time for the traditional All Saints' Day, All Souls Day activities, and Christmas Day activities, as well as promote domestic tourism.”

In a separate order, Marcos declared July 27, 2025 (Sunday) as a special non-working day in commemoration of the Iglesia ni Cristo's founding anniversary.

While People Power is counted in this year’s list, it is still a working day.

Meanwhile, proclamations for Islam holidays based on the lunar calendar. The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos will be the agency that recommends the date to the president.

“The proclamations declaring national holidays for the observance of Eidul Fitr and Eidul Adha shall hereafter be issued after the approximate dates of the Islamic holidays have been determined in accordance with the Islamic calendar (Hijra) or the lunar calendar,” the proclamation read.

The anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution which toppled the presidency of Marcos' father has not been included in the list of holidays as it falls on a Sunday. However, the feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary on December 8 that also falls on a Sunday has been included in the list of 2024 holidays this year.

The issuance of national holidays due to Islamic holidays such as the observance of Eid’l Fitr and Eid’l Adha shall be issued after the approximate days determined by the Islamic calendar (Hjira) or the lunar calendar, or upon Islamic astronomical calculations, whichever is possible or possible. The President will issue proclamation in observance of these holidays.

The proclamation then gives a lists of 10 regular holidays and 8 special non-working holidays for 2024. It is also good news for travel junkie like me that some fall on a Monday or a Friday which also give the chance to enjoy several long weekends in the Philippines.

La Trinidad Strawberry Festival 2023

The last time I had made post about Strawberry Festival was on the year 2017. It was three years in a row that the celebration were cancelled due to pandemic. With this year's theme, “A Festival for Recovery: Building a Brighter Future from Adversities,” the lined-up activities are expected to draw locals and visitors all together.

Among the activities will be the Strawberry Lane and the Agro Fair which kickoff on March 6 and will run until March 31, the Duting tan Dukto and Strawberry Fun Run and the search for biggest and sweetest strawberry, all to be held at the municipal grounds.

Highlights of the celebration...

On March 17 (Friday) will be the civic parade followed by a mass and the main program of the festival in the morning and the “owik tan tayao” rituals and the multi-cultural celebrations and the acoustic band competition in the afternoon.

On March 18 (Saturday) will be the most awaited street dance and float parade to be highlighted by the Strawberry Cake Fest where the public can partake of cakes baked by the local bakers and entrepreneurs.

The Mr. and Ms. La Trinidad pageant is also revived this year.

March 19 (Sunday) - Pre Pageant

March 26 (Sunday) - Coronation Night

Other lined up activities include the Kapihan Press Conference on February 22, the Art and Mural Contest on March 7 to 8, the concerts at the park on March 12 and 25, the battle of the bands on March 18, the jobs fair on March 25, and the closing program on March 31.

The local government of La Trinidad is gearing up for two upcoming festivals in the municipality this year - Coffee Festival and the Strawberry Festival.

The Coffee Festival is set on February 21 to 23, 2023 at the municipal gymnasium which is expected to be attended by coffee lovers and stakeholders from the coffee industry.

Now on its 6th year, the Coffee Festival aims to promote the town’s coffee industry and the culture of coffee consumption. It is returned to its original schedule which is February instead of December per the request of the coffee growers for them to provide good quality of coffee.

Panagbenga Festival 2023

It was the height of the Covid19 pandemic that the Panagbenga Festival were cancelled for about two (2) years respectively. The schedule of activities for Panagbenga 2023 or the Baguio Flower Festival 2023 was revealed and launched. Now, we will witness such same vibrant and lively celebration aligned major activities in Baguio City like the Session Road in Bloom, Lantern Parade among others, now, that the city had steady decline of cases due to pandemic episodes.

For the Panagbenga 2023 the Theme is “A Renaissance of Wonder and Beauty”.

The return of the main activities of Panagbenga Festival for 2023 is a sign that we are moving on from the domino effects of the pandemic. We hope that this celebration of the Panagbenga Festival will rise Baguio City again after being crippled by the pandemic, well not just Baguio City but the same faith also in and among other major festivals in the country. If we recall Panagbenga was implemented to bring back the vibrant Baguio after a tragedy and at that time it was the 1990 killer earthquake. The Panagbenga 2023 will bring back the season of blooming in the City of Pines.

Proclamation 42 emphasizes the need to commemorate the 37th anniversary of the Edsa People Power Revolution "which ushered political, social and economic reforms in the country.”

The proclamation also states that Black Saturday, which falls on April 8, 2023, has been traditionally declared as a special non-working day in the entire country, in observance of Holy Week which is "one of the most cherished traditions of our predominantly Catholic people.”

It added that by virtue of Republic Act (RA) 10966, December 8 of every year must be celebrated as a special non-working holiday nationwide to commemorate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary.

August 21 of every year must also be declared as national non-working holiday to commemorate the death anniversary of former Senator Benigno S. Aquino Jr., according to the proclamation.

November 2, which was declared special working day in 2022, has been declared as an additional special non-working day in 2023 to "strengthen family ties by providing more time for the traditional All Saints' Day, All Souls' Day activities, as well as promote domestic tourism."

The President will issue separate proclamations declaring national holidays for the observance of the Eid'l Fitr and Eid'l Adha will be issued after the approximate dates of the Islamic holidays have been determined, in the accordance with the Islamic calendar or the lunar calendar, or upon Islamic astronomical calculations, whichever is possible or convenient.

Ati-atihan Festival 2017

Ati-atihan Festival is a yearly feast to celebrate Santo Niño in Kalibo, Aklan. It is often held in January, and comes to an end on the third Sunday.

‘Ati-Atihan’ is translated to mean ‘to mimic the Ati tribe’. Ati is a term that refers to the island’s early settlers. At the core of the festival, visitors get to indulge in vigorous tribal dances, ecstatic music and a host of native masks and weapons. The said festival is a crowd drawer for both locals and tourists alike.

Baggak Festival 2016

Bauang, La Union's annual celebration of its Baggak Festival shows the ingenuity of the town to become a more progressive municipality in the country through the festivities, the Baggak festival coincide coincide with the Christmas holidays.

Baggak, an Iluko term referring to the morning star, stands for the dawning of a new day for Bauang.

A car show, Job Fair and the opening salvo "ZOOMBAUANG" are some attractions that were opened on the first day, Dec. 16. During the night, choirs presented and serenaded the crowd with their Christmas carols showcasing their talents and music prowess.

PANAGBENGA - Baguio Flower Festival 2017

The City Government of Baguio formally launched the Baguio Flower Festival 2017 at the Baguio City Hall together with the members of the Hapiyo Mi Cultural Dance Troupe of the University of the Cordilleras that adds color during the launching of Panagbenga 2017.

The 22nd edition of the Baguio Flower Festival or Panagbenga has for its theme, “Inspired by beauty, nurtured by nature.” The theme focuses on the beauty of the festival and the environment which inspires the city. This also encourages the people in the community to continuously protect and preserve the environment.

For the Panagbenga 2017, the Grand Street Dancing Parade and Grand Float Parade are set on February 25 and 26, respectively, followed by the Session Road in Bloom on February 27 to March 5.

Among the activities lined up include opening Day on February 1, the Baguio Blooms Exposition at the Lake Drive from February 1 to March 5, the Handog ng Panagbenga sa Pamilya Baguio at the Melvin Jones Football grounds on February 12, the citywide School-based competitions on February 15, the Flower Tee Open Golf Tournament at the Baguio Country Club on February 25 and 26, the Pony Boys Day on March 4 and the Closing ceremonies and grand Fireworks Display on March 5.

This annual event is a now a member of the International Festival and Events Association (IFEA), the premiere association supporting and enabling festival and event professionals worldwide.

A religious festival held every 3^rd Saturday of September in honor of the Feast of Our Lady of Peñafrancia. It is the most revered patroness highlighted by the fluvial procession of the Lady's image down the Bicol River in Bicol. A well-known city of Southern Philippines, the nesting ground of the mightiest and symbolic Philippine Eagle and the home city of the newly elected 16^th President of the Republic of the Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte - Davao City, the city pave way to its limelight’s through the annual festival the Kadayawan Festival.

Kadayawan derives from the friendly greeting “Madayaw”, from the Dabawenyo word “dayaw”, meaning good, valuable, superior or beautiful. The festival is a celebration of life, a thanksgiving for the gifts of nature, the wealth of culture, the bounties of harvest and serenity of living.

Interesting to know, the festival gives way to both local and foreign tourists to know Davao more. Yearly, they incorporate tradition and culture to the Kadayawan Festival for every tourist to be amazed and mesmerize how Filipinos party. The Kadayawan Festival is held every third week of August.

It’s that time of the year again when the flowers bloom and celebrate what we call the “Panagbenga” also known as the Baguio Flower Festival. The festival will more focus on living flowers than short-lived cut-flowers in its 21st edition to be held in February next year.

2016 Baguio Flower Festival theme “Bless the Children with Flowers,” aims to instill the preservation of nature for the benefit of future generations. The organizers announced a revising of guidelines for the much-awaited spectacle of the Flower Float Parade, to design a float with live potted plants and flowers rather than cut flowers, in a 50/50 combination of live potted plants and cut flowers and soon to be donated to the schools in Baguio, so as the children may appreciated and nurture the environment.

Panagbenga 2016 will draw local and foreign tourist in the city, especially with the completion of the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway next year. With travel time expected to be a mere 2.5 hours from Balintawak to Baguio City, Baguio can be easily become a weekend destination.

In addition, the tourism department has embarked on a program called “Regreening and re-blooming Baguio,” to bring back the old beauty and glory of the nation’s summer capital.
