If there is one thing Pay-TV channels like Showtime and HBO showed us over the past five to ten years, it is that – contrary to popular believe – there still are a few good shows alive and actually doing well on the small screen. Casing point? Last season’s smash hit Homeland with Claire Danes and Damian Lewis.

The critically acclaimed drama/thriller series that was created by Gideon Raff won two Golden Globes in its freshman year! It was awarded “Best Television Series – Drama” and “Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama” for Claire Danes’s impressive acting. In case you haven’t heard about the show yet, you simply must check out the first season immediately. You do not want to miss out on this one! I promise.

Those of you who got sucked in by it (much like myself) were left with quite a few unanswered questions at the end of the final episode. And now Showtime decided to make sure we don’t forget about them by releasing a short teaser for the upcoming new season.

To get the disappointment right out of the way: since the show won’t return for another six month, no new footage is shown. Instead we are kindly reminded of what to expect come late September. Or rather what burning questions will be answered. And last but not least we are told to brace ourselves. Which judging by season one is a pretty good tip. I for one have sky high expectations for the new season. Don’t you?

For more information about season two of Homeland, head on over to screenrant.com. They wrote a nice article about whats most likely going to happenen come fall.

Spoiler warning: If you haven’t seen or finished Season 1 of Homeland, there are spoilers in this video!

Ladies, brace yourselves! This one is for you. The movie many of you have been waiting for anxiously and didn’t even know that it was being made. Check out the trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s stripper comedy/romance Magic Mike, featuring Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer and Matthew McConaughey. All topless! Wheee!

Ok ok, you may calm down now.. Before you jump right to the trailer, let me say a few words about the film. Because some readers may have raised their eyebrows after reading the combination of the name Steven Soderbergh and stripper comedy. Yes, he is probably best known for his Ocean’s Eleven trilogy (which are also comedies), but looking at some of his other films, your mind doesn’t necessarily go stripper comedy first. Last year he directed the hard hitting action flick Haywire and the spine-tingling thriller Contaigon. Both not being too funny to begin with. And that list continues all the way back to Traffic.

So the reactions to Soderbergh’s announcement that he would make a movie about experiences Channing Tatum had in his youth as a male stripper were mixed, to say it best. And yet, it is not to much of a stretch to see this film being really good. Tatum certainly has the body and the moves (Step Up, anyone?) to pull it off! And boy does he show it in the trailer.

And let’s not forget about his co-stars! We all know what Matthew McConaughey looks like without a shirt. But it never gets dull looking at him. Even for men. Also joining Tatum will be Alex Pettyfer (I am Number Four) and Joe Manganiello (True Blood). And just so the boys also have a reason to go and see the film, Olivia Munn and Cody Horn play the female parts. And since topless is pretty much out of the question here, let’s just hope they get at least a fraction of the screen time their male colleagues will be receiving.

But as always, I don’t want to spoil the whole thing for you ladies. Just do me the favor and read the short synopsis first, ok?

Synopsis:

A dramatic comedy set in the world of male strippers, “Magic Mike” is directed by Academy Award(R)-winning director Steven Soderbergh (“Traffic”) and stars Channing Tatum in a story inspired by his real life. The film follows Mike (Tatum) as he takes a young dancer called The Kid (Alex Pettyfer) under his wing and schools him in the fine arts of partying, picking up women, and making easy money.

You guys know that feeling? The one you get from time to time when you come across a film (or a trailer for one) and you instantly know you are going to love it? It takes only a few seconds, maybe three or four scenes and you just know that you want to watch the film as soon as possible.

Well guess what… I just had precisely said feeling while watching the preview for Toronto Film Festival and Sundance favorite Your Sister’s Sister. Directed by Lynn Shelton this little indie treasure features Emily Blunt, Rosemarie DeWitt and Mark Duplass. And while the cast is already really great, it is not the main reason why I am going to love the film. It’s the cinematography. I mean.. Just look at the scenery. Absolutely amazing. Just beautiful! Places like that make me want to become a location scout. I wouldn’t even want money for it.

Of course it is always a plus if the acting and directing are also on par. And luckily for Your Sister’s Sister, that seems to be the case. I think it’s save to say that you can never go wrong with Emily Blunt. Can’t come up with a bad movie with her in it off the top of my head. You may or may not know Rosemarie DeWitt from the TV show United States of Tara, and Mark Duplass can also be seen this summer in another Sundance hit, Safety Not Guaranteed (with Aubrey Plaza). The three of them seem like a great mix and I have nothing to say against them.

For more information check out the very detailed synopsis below. Other than that I can only hope you feel as strongly about this film as I do after watching the trailer. Enjoy it!

Synopsis:

A man struggling with his feelings following a death in the family throws himself into an even more uncomfortable situation in this independent comedy-drama from filmmaker Lynn Shelton. A year after the death of his brother, Jack (Mark Duplass) is still having a hard time dealing with his loss, and when he has an emotional outburst at a family get-together, Iris (Emily Blunt) steps in to offer some help. Iris is one of Jack’s closest friends and was also dating his brother at the time of his death; Iris’ family has a cottage on Puget Sound, and she suggests Jack bike up there and take some time to come to terms with his troubles.

Jack accepts her offer, but when he arrives at the cabin, he discovers it’s occupied by Iris’ sister Hannah (Rosemarie DeWitt), who is in need of some alone time after breaking up with her lover. Jack and Hannah discuss their heartache over a bottle of tequila, and end up stumbling into bed. The next morning, Iris arrives, and Jack is desperate to keep her from learning he had sex with her sister; Hannah agrees not to tell, but as she bonds with Jack, she also senses his feelings for Iris aren’t as platonic as he cares to admit. Your Sister’s Sister received its world premiere at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival.

It seems like The Avengers are getting all the attention these days. Trailers, Posters, Featurettes and what not – all hyping Marvel’s newest superhero flick. No wonder people are expecting an opening weekend north of $150 million (Dark Knight territory). But let’s not forget about the other Marvel superhero who returns to the big screen this summer, The Amazing Spider-Man!

I’m sure as soon as Captain America and his friends are finished devouring the Box Office on their first weekend, Marvel’s attention will quickly shift to Peter Parker aka. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Because let’s face it, a complete reboot of their most lucrative franchise in history is no thing to overlook. With The Amazing Spider-Man the studio looks to almost entirely re-tell the story of one of their oldest (and most successful) figures.

Out with the old, in with the new if you will… Instead of Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst we get to see the up and coming Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) play the role of Peter Parker aka Spider-Man. And instead of falling in love with Mary-Jane Watson while discovering his powers he this time has his eyes on Gwen Stacy, played by the lovely Emma Stone (Easy A). The director for the reboot also changed, Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) took over for Sam Raimi. Also staring this time around will be Sally Field, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen and Denis Leary. For more information see the official synopsis below.

In case you missed it, be sure to check out the very early first trailer for the film. I also recommend taking a closer look at the official teaser poster from a while back. But for now, let’s focus on the newest snipped released for Spidey 4. A Japanese trailer (English with subs) that features quite a few new scenes and actually got be back on the bandwagon. Surely though Marvel (and Columbia/Sony) will continue bombarding us with new material as soon as The Avengers are out of the theaters.

(Note: During my absence I managed to miss the official theatrical trailer. See it over at slashfilm.com)

Synopsis:

Typical teenager Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) embraces his incredible destiny after uncovering one of his father’s most carefully guarded secrets as Columbia Pictures reboots the Spider-Man franchise with the help of director Mark Webb ((500) Days of Summer) and screenwriter James Vanderbilt (Zodiac). Sally Field, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Martin Sheen, and Emma Stone co-star.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays a young Bruce Willis who has to kill himself in the past. Wait what? Yep, the plot for Looper sounds a bit tricky. And yet it looks like a great film. Too bad it’s a Sony motion picture…

Those schmucks did it again. Remember how they are desperately trying to start a new trend? Posting teaser trailers for the actual trailer of a movie. Last time they tried it was a few weeks ago for their upcoming summer blockbuster Total Recall. Everybody hated it and and yet here we are again. This time Sony decided to not only post one of those annoying teasers but three! Since you didn’t see them here, you know of course that I decided not to post them. Screw you Sony… However, you can watch them all over at Apple.

I can’t deprive you of the full length trailer that was (finally) released last night of course. Luckily it makes up for most of Sony’s annoyance. Directed by Rian Johnson, Looper features Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis and Emily Blunt. And since I don’t know how to sell you on the films plot other than I did in the post’s first sentence, you can find the official synopsis below. And in case you missed it, you can head on over here for the film’s official poster. As for the trailer, I am almost sold. It doesn’t try to transform the movie into something it won’t be. When looking back at this year’s movies come December, it will not be the first one that comes to mind. Yet at a certain point you will most likely remember it as a solid action flick that featured a group of cool actors who tried to kill each other while time travelling. Or something along that line…

Synopsis:

Looper is a time travel movie, set in a near future where time travel doesn’t exist but will be invented in a few decades. It’s pretty dark in tone, much different from Bloom, and involves a group of killers (called Loopers) who work for a crime syndicate in the future. Their bosses send their targets hogtied and blindfolded back in time to the Loopers, and their job is to simply shoot them in the head and dispose of the body. So the target vanishes from the future and the Loopers dispose of a corpse that doesn’t technically exist, a very clean system. Complications set in from there.

Over the last few weeks basically every day a new piece of advertisement for Marvel’s new blockbuster The Avengers was released. Some of those countless poster, photos, videos and trailers found their way onto my blog. But at a certain point I just gave up. They are simply pushing this thing way over the limit. My interest in the film actually shrunk with each new snipped they gave out. That was until now. Because a few hours ago a massive 20 minutes of B-roll material was released!

For those of you who don’t know what that is: B-roll material is footage (videos) taken while actually filming the movie. So it’s cameras filming the actors getting filmed. Sounds nerdy, I know. And it is! There’s no actual sound or commentary included, you just see the actors, the director, camera and sound people doing their jobs. And yet, if you are a reel geek like I am, you will just love this stuff!

We get to see director Joss Whedon talking to and.. well.. directing his cast that includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson. We also get to see stunts being prepared, a lot of green walls and some yellow taxis.

I guess it is not for everyone but as I already said, I dig this sort of thing. So go ahead and take the 20 minutes during your lunch break to watch the four videos if you enjoy it too.

Synopsis:

Marvel Studios delivers the ultimate comic-book film, which ties together such characters as Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) for a big-screen franchise team-up like no other. Show runner Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly) adapted and helmed the script by Zak Penn, which focuses on a superhero lineup put together by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to combat a hostile force out to destroy the world. Scarlett Johansson once again dons the Black Widow costume, with Jeremy Renner stepping into the role of ace archer Hawkeye. Tom Hiddleston also returns as Thor’s ever-deceptive brother, Loki.

It may be another seven month until Bond 23 aka Skyfall will hit theaters. But that doesn’t mean MGM won’t give the people something to talk about. First there was the official logo/banner for the film, then a first picture of Mr. Bond (Daniel Craig) casually leaning back besides an indoor pool. And now the floodgates appear to have opened!

Yesterday at least a dozen new photos have hit the web. Instead of posting them all, I picked a few (the best) for you to look at. All the major cast members (old and new) are pictured. Those include Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Judi Dench and Bérénice Marlohe. Only the new villian, played by Javier Bardem, is still missing!

Check out the pictures and a short synopsis below. Looking at things, my guess is we might only be days away from a first teaser trailer!

Synopsis:

Daniel Craig is back as James Bond 007 in Skyfall, the 23rd adventure in the longest-running film franchise of all time. In Skyfall, Bond’s loyalty to M (Judi Dench) is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.

Yesterday a first poster and the synopsis of Rian Johnson’s futuristic action thriller Looper was released. The film will feature Joseph Gordon-Levitt & Bruce Willis as time travelling mob cleaners. Sounds excellent. Don’t you agree?

Besides the information given in the synopsis below (and a few photos from the set), not much has been leaked about the film yet. So I guess until a first trailer is released we will have to keep staring at the first poster, showing the two main protagonists (also posted below).

Poster:

Looper is set to be released on September 28, 2012.

I <del>love to</del> hate to say I told you so but I am pretty sure there was a point somewhere during the last year where I warned you about Greta Gerwig! Probably around the time I saw Greenberg (one of my favorites of 2010 by the way and a must watch movie!), where I first started noticing her. I knew she was going to come out big this year. And guess what…

Not only will she star in Woody Allen’s new film To Rome With Love (Trailer), she will also be the lead in not one but two movies! And while she will share that honor with a few others in Damsels in Distress, there will be nobody standing in her way in the film this post is about, Lola Versus! Brought to us by the fine folks at Fox Searchlight (500 Days of Summer) the film was directed by Daryl Wein and will be touring a couple of festivals starting this month, before getting a limited release in June. Supporting Gerwing will be Joel Kinnaman (The Killing), Hamish Linklater and Zoe Lister-Jones.

You can read more about the movie in the short synopsis I added below. And don’t forget to enjoy the trailer afterwards. I liked it a lot!

Synopsis:

Greta Gerwig plays Lola, a 29-year-old woman dumped by her longtime boyfriend Luke (Joel Kinnaman) just three weeks before their wedding. With the help of her close friends Henry (Hamish Linklater) and Alice (Zoe Lister-Jones), Lola embarks on a series of desperate encounters in an attempt to find her place in the world as a single woman approaching 30.

Not even 24 hours after a really short teaser for Savages, the new film from Academy Award winning director Oliver Stone was released, we are treated to the full length preview!

Buckle up people! Because this will be a bumpy ride. While the 15 second teaser from yesterday didn’t give us any plot details, the new trailer is full of them. Every role gets a short introduction and the plot is almost completely laid out for us. And boy will this film be filled with action!

The cast includes Taylor Kitsch, Aaron Johnson, Blake Lively, Uma Thurman, John Travolta, Salma Hayek and Emile Hirsch. That sounds like an awesome mix of characters to me. And it seems like Mr. Kitsch is in every other movie this year. But it’s probably for the best, considering his last film, John Carter, completely tanked at the Box Office, leaving a crushing $200 million hole in Sony’s wallet. Let’s hope his other big meal ticket (Battleship) doesn’t suffer the same cruel fate…

But since Savages doesn’t even com close to those two movies budget-wise, he should be fine on this one. And let’s not forget that it is an Oliver Stone film! So go ahead and read the very detailed synopsis below and watch the trailer afterwards.

Synopsis:

Three-time Oscar®-winning filmmaker Oliver Stone returns to the screen with the ferocious thriller Savages, featuring the all-star ensemble cast of Taylor Kitsch, Blake Lively, Aaron Johnson, John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Benicio Del Toro, Salma Hayek, Emile Hirsch and Demian Bichir. The film is based on Don Winslow’s best-selling crime novel that was named one of The New York Times’ Top 10 Books of 2010.

Laguna Beach entrepreneurs Ben (Johnson), a peaceful and charitable Buddhist, and his closest friend Chon (Kitsch), a former Navy SEAL and ex-mercenary, run a lucrative, homegrown industry—raising some of the best marijuana ever developed. They also share a one-of-a-kind love with the extraordinary beauty Ophelia (Lively). Life is idyllic in their Southern California town…until the Mexican Baja Cartel decides to move in and demands that the trio partners with them.

When the merciless head of the BC, Elena (Hayek), and her brutal enforcer, Lado (Del Toro), underestimate the unbreakable bond among these three friends, Ben and Chon—with the reluctant, slippery assistance of a dirty DEA agent (Travolta)—wage a seemingly unwinnable war against the cartel. And so begins a series of increasingly vicious ploys and maneuvers in a high stakes, savage battle of wills.
