Our spring menu is here!

Spring is a time of shedding layers and embracing the lighter side of life. Clothes are lighter, dispositions are lighter, and with the first crop of the season now in harvest, our menu is lighter.

Our new protein picks include tangier takes on old favorites, including our Honey Apricot Chicken. For a citrus kick, order our Zesty Citrus Buttered Shrimp, served in a bright orange and lemon butter sauce.

Still hanging on to the savory flavors of winter? Our Boston Maple-Whiskey Steak is glazed with a honey whiskey Dijon glaze and served with charred onions and tomatoes. Balsamic Garlic Basil Pork is another savory option you can’t pass up.

As for our crispy tofu, we’re honoring heirloom beefsteak tomatoes in this season’s New England Tomato Potacchio Roasted Tofu. A flavorful vegan tomato-based sauce is slow cooked with fresh rosemary, basil, and garlic then tossed with our oven crisp roasted tofu.

Dress up your meal with our Heart of the Roots sides, including popular favorites as well as soon-to-be popular newcomers. Our vegetarian Time Flies Pot Pie bakes fresh vegetables and white button mushrooms in a savory vegetable gravy, topped with a crispy puff pastry.

On the lighter side, our Hello Gorgeous Salad tosses peppery arugula and mesclun with zippy oranges, crisp red onions, and crunchy fennel. Talk about green and sunshine!

Our Spring Forward Vegi Vegi is a non-soup take on this old-time classic stockpot classic. Roasted, garlicy baby potatoes pair up with bright rainbow carrots and green Brussels sprouts, and are then topped with a savory, colorful chimichurri.

Top off your meal with Strawberry Chocolate Delight, a fresh whipped chocolate mousse blended with chilled strawberry coulis.

Spring is here, and we couldn’t be more excited!

We tend to be the most productive in the morning. Our minds are fresh and we’re ready to get to work! Come post lunch, however, our productivity tends to dwindle and we’re often left feeling in a brain fog.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Beat the post-lunch energy slump with these three effective techniques.

Consume a healthy lunch.

Not only does consuming a healthy lunch increase your productivity, it can boost your energy throughout the afternoon.

By incorporating omega-3 rich foods such as salmon and healthy carbs like brown rice and sweet potato into your lunch box, your brain will receive the nutrients it needs to function optimally- and your body will have plenty of energy to power you through the afternoon.

The Rootastes summer menu is loaded with healthy ingredients that will help you beat the post lunch slump, including grilled chicken, gluten-free pasta, beets, and a variety of healthy grain bases.

Move!

Nothing clears stagnant energy like moving! Head outside for a walk in the sunshine, or try some workercise exercises that can be done right at your desk. According to the Harvard Business Review, any type of physical movement will temporarily boost your alertness and energy levels.

Even f you don’t have time to go for a 20-minute walk, you can enjoy the benefits of movement by taking frequent bursts of movement breaks throughout your afternoon.

Slow down…

Sometimes we need to be still to recharge. Short naps make you more productive and creative through boosting alertness, but be sure not to nap too long or you’ll wake up feeling groggy and have difficulty falling asleep at night.

You could also try meditating, which encourages the release of thoughts while focusing on the breath. Unlike napping, meditating boosts melatonin levels while reducing stress. Meditating also has many of the same brain boosting benefits as naps as well as the added perk of physical benefits, such as in the immune and cardiovascular systems. And always be sure to set yourself up for success by getting a full night’s sleep.

By utilizing these three techniques, you’ll feel zippy all afternoon!

Ahh, the slow, sunny days of summer. The season of relaxation, strolling along a sandy beach or swimming in a sparkling lake. Summer is the ultimate time to refresh and reset, which is exactly what we’re doing here at Rootastes!

We pride our menus on being locally sourced and globally inspired. We’ve chosen a cultural theme since our very first menu, and have had such fun traveling to Mexico, Greece, France, Japan, and other exciting culinary locales.

But it’s time for a refresh.

Our chefs have been buzzing around the Rootastes kitchen, scheming a new menu concept to debut this summer. They decided that instead of focusing on one destination, our continuing offerings would incorporate flavors from around the world- all in one menu!

Kicking off our new concept is the summer 2019 menu, featuring light, satisfying options that will refresh your day, body, and mind. Because summer is also the season of color, our chefs infused the palettes of sunrises and tropical locales into our lunches.

Caribbean-Spiced Pork Chops & Corn-U-Salsa

Can’t get enough of the Caribbean? Try our pan-roasted pork chops, rubbed in a delicious Caribbean spice blend, lime juice, and fresh cilantro. We recommend pairing with our Corn-U-Salsa.

The root of what we do is summarized with Eat. Real. Food. It’s our slogan and our way of life. From sourcing local ingredients from local farms to delivering them to our clients, we’ve created quite the list of partners. These are their stories.

Magbè Savané grew up traveling throughout her native Cote D’Ivoire, selling tea and juices made by her mother. After growing up, she realized that by sharing her family’s recipes, her African roots could be spread around the world, promoting health, wellbeing, and a greater purpose.

She founded Makomas here in Massachusetts, and their impact reaches way back to Magbè’s homeland. The company name is derived from letters of her own name, along with that of her husband’s and son’s.

Family affair.

Makomas teas are made from recipes passed down by generations of Magbè’s family. They blend exotic ingredients such as the superfruit baobab or the leaves of the Moringa tree with the bold flavors of ginger, pineapple, honey, beets, and more.

Magbè wanted to support her former community by sourcing many of these ingredients from women farmers in West Africa. The company recognizes the courage of these women, many of which support their families by growing the foods that are then transformed into tea.

Women who work.

The women who produce the ingredients for Makomas teas are located in Africa’s Burkina Faso. Along with sharing her family’s recipes for wellbeing with the world, Magbè also wanted to create a sustainable model of community development that would benefit the working women of her homeland, so she founded The Makomas Foundation.

Through the foundation, the company is committed to contributing to the stability, security, and financial freedom of these women and their families by sourcing the fruits, flowers, and leaves used in Makomas teas directly from them.

Rootastes x Makomas

Another main mission of Makomas teas is to promote wellness around the world. According to Magbè, “Our bottles are packaged with a passion and deliciousness bigger than our company: to celebrate health and wellbeing.”

Real food that supports women empowerment? We’re all in!

The root of what we do is summarized with Eat. Real. Food. It’s our slogan and our way of life. From sourcing local ingredients from local farms to delivering them to our clients, we’ve created quite the list of partners. These are their stories.

It all started with a road trip. Waku co-founders Juan Giraldo and Nico Estrella had already spent years working together, but a simple cup of tea drew them out of their Ed-Tech environment and on a cross country voyage through their native Ecuador to find a tea blend that best represented el agua que cura, “the water that heals.”

El aqua que cura

After over 50 taste tests, the team settled on a blend formulated in Cuenca, where they met a woman who showed them her tattoo featuring an assortment of herbs. She revealed that these herbs, blended by her grandmother, healed her of an illness when she was a child.

The duo then met Don Miguel and his family, independent farmers who make a living growing these herbs. Juan and Nico discovered how the herbs are grown, everything Don Miguel knew about wellness teas, and the struggle of being a farmer in a small community. The universe had spoken, and Waku was born!

The company’s signature el agua que cura is a unique combination of over 20 herbs and flowers with analgesic, digestive, and anti-inflammatory properties, all sourced from the Andes Mountains. It was very important to Juan and Nico to create an ethical supply chain in Ecuador that would benefit Don Miguel and others while sharing their healing water with the world.

Rootastes x Waku

Waku’s tea is the epitome of Eat. Real. Food., and we’re proud to partner with this Greater Boston-based company. According to Juan and Nico, they enjoy working with us too! “We love Rootastes’ focus on making eating healthy easier and more accessible for people. As a team, we are always trying to find our balance- pushing hard to achieve our passion and recharging to return even stronger. To do so, you need the right fuel to power your day, and a farm-fresh curated lunchbox paired with refreshing Waku is the perfect way to do just that.”

Why Waku?

As mentioned above, Waku’s tea is a healing blend that brings balance to your gut with a refreshing, smooth taste. Waku (WAH-KOO) hails from Quechua, the language spoken by indigenous people from the central Andes Mountains. It means “together,” which is what the company hopes to promote: togetherness. You can find it at over 150 locations in Greater Boston, including Rootastes!

Spring is the most appreciated season for New Englanders. After a frigid winter that seemed to last for ages, a slushy mud season, and a last minute snowfall, the sunshine of spring is a pure delight.

It’s no wonder that spring is the representation of rebirth, a time to refresh and revitalize our bodies, minds, and surroundings. The monochrome that is winter whites and grays are renewed with a burst of budding florals in the shades of green, pink, and yellow, the frozen rivers return to their cascading blue hues, and the smiles of strangers on the streets feel much brighter.

Bloom into the Spring with Rootastes

Here at Rootastes, our new spring menu is inspired by a locale that is just lovely this time of year. A place of light flavors as well as refreshing, and crisp ingredients that are sure to re-energize your day. Say “oishii!” to our new Japanese Sakura Spring Menu!

We couldn’t resist traveling back to Japan for our spring menu. This time of year Japanese walkways are immersed in the rich pinks of cherry blossoms, their fragrance dancing through the air.

Take a bite into your freshly prepared Rootastes lunch. Imagine being transported to a Japanese town where the cherry blossoms, “sakura,” are in full bloom. As you pass by a market, a rainbow of colors cascades before you, from the oranges of yuzu to the greens of baby bok choy, and the bold pinks of turnips. A cherry blossom floats by, and you catch it in your hand, its soft, delicate petals resting gracefully on your fingers.

Glancing around, you notice the vibrancy of the Japanese people, a culture that has long been revered for their longevity. Their diet of fresh fish, vegetables, and fermented foods is their secret to a long, full life and lean figures. In fact, the Japanese have the lowest rates of obesity and their diet leads to a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease. Japanese food is prepared with fresh ingredients, is unprocessed, and uses very little sugar and animal products.

Taking inspiration from the Japenese, our Rootastes Sakura Spring menu is prepared using their ancient traditions and spunky flavors. Our Miso Hungry Chicken will refresh your senses with their zesty miso citrus glaze. For a savory lunch, try our Beef Gyudon, a Yoshinoya beef bowl and an all-time favorite! Its savory and juicy sliced beef is roasted with tender onions and tossed in a sweet and savory dashi broth, and then seasoned with soy sauce and mirin. Ready to give tofu a try? The Japanese are pros at preparing this soy dish that will delight even the staunchest of meat eaters. Our Agedashi Tofu is crisp from oven roasting and served in a flavorful tsuyu sauce with grated radish, green onion, and crisp shallots.

Heart of the Roots

Our Heart of the Roots sides have taken on a Japanese spring vibe. The star of the season is Spring is in the Air, a salad of sautéed baby bok choy, shitake mushrooms, bean sprouts, and finished with a ginger soy wafu dressing. Eat the colors of sakura with Bring on the Sunshine, a slaw of edamame, purple cabbage, baby radish, and Japanese pears, dressed in our Yuzu Miso Vinagrette over Endive leaves and lettuce.

Strawberry Fields Forever

And for a sweet ending, our Strawberry Fields Forever dessert is a creamy ginger coconut risotto served with strawberry rhubarb compote.

The fall season has come and gone like a tornado of color, bringing beauty to the trees and a chill to the air. Now that winter is settling it, our Rootastes Winter Menu is inspired by classical French flavors to bundle you up on the coldest of days.

Imagine being surrounded by Mont Blanc, a snow covered village in the French Alps. The snow is sparkling and pristine- heavenly. You admire the winter wonderland around you and begin planning days of snowy activities spent with family and friends.

Accenting the fluffy snow are hints of burgundy and green on the tips of white-blanketed trees. Although you feel the brisk chill of the air, you know you will soon be warming up with delicious French classics displayed on a rustic table. You pause and are engulfed in the fragrance of wood burning fires, fresh bread baking in the boulangerie, and a flurry of herbs such as tarragon, lavender, dill, thyme, rosemary, and more.

While this world may seem thousands of miles away, we’re bringing Mont Blanc to you with our winter menu! This season we’re focusing on the warming flavors of classical French cuisine inspired by tradition, culture, and of course, health. With an emphasis on flavor, we first dive into our main course, Poulet de Provençe our signature slow-roasted chicken in our homemade fragrant rub of traditional French herbs de Provençe and zest of lemon.

Cooking techniques for our winter menu include braising, utilizing warm, thicker sauces, and inspiration from classical French dishes such as Beef (bouf in French!) Bourguignon: True French comfort food for the chilliest winter days. This slow stewed recipe blends meltingly tender beef with winter root vegetables, mushrooms, and a delicious red wine base.

Our Heart of the Roots sides have also undergone a French infusion. We’re excited to debut our Ratatouille, a French vegetable stew; Gemme Cachée, a blend of carrot, kale, apple, and apple cider vinaigrette topped with dried cranberry; and our Salad Française. Sip on our Rose Lemon Infused Water and you’ll feel like you’re in France!

While the savory ingredients of French cuisine may sound heavy, the French diet is actually quite healthy when consumed in a French state of mind. Key health and wellness points of the French include:

Portion control

Quality over quantity of ingredients

Savoring the flavor

Enjoying your vin (that’s wine!)

Doing what you love

Snacking smart

Eating with others

Being mindful: Eating is a cultured task not a race

Sourcing ingredients everyday at local markets, enjoying a walk on the way.

Here at Rootastes, we strive to source quality ingredients as locally as possible. Our meals are prepared fresh daily and delivered right to your office in pre-portioned containers.

So enjoy our French Classics Winter Menu with your co-workers and savor the flavors of these warming meals!

But we believe lunch should be better than healthy, that it should be loaded with nutrients to keep you powered through the remainder of the workday. That’s why we’re sharing our favorite nutrient-dense bowl recipes!

Nori Roll in a Bowl

With a quinoa base and topped with omega-3 rich foods such as tuna and avocado, the Nori Roll in a Bowl is the ultimate brain feast. Studies have shown the correlation between low levels of omega-3s in the diet with impaired brain performance and cognitive disease, so eat you brain food!

This savory bowl is topped with asparagus spears, radishes, sprouts, nori, and a Tahini Miso Turmeric dressing for anti-inflammation benefits.

Mediterranean Buddha Bowl

The Mediterranean diet is all the rage here at Rootastes (check out our fall menu!) and for good reason. Consistently ranked the #1 diet, the Mediterranean diet is savory, easy-to-follow, and nutrient dense. Centered on fresh and locally grown foods, the Mediterranean diet is loaded with crunchy produce, healthy fats, filling whole grains, and herbs and spices for flavor instead of salt.

That’s why we love this Mediterranean Buddha Bowl. It’s easily customizable as the recipe recommends a variety of ingredients. Use one or all in the greens, veggies, complex carbs, and protein categories, but be sure to make the falafel, hummus, and dressing. Those ingredients add the Mediterranean flair and tie this bowl together.

Prebiotic and Probiotic Macro Bowl

Restore digestive balance and build a healthy gut with the Prebiotic and Probiotic Macro Bowl. The prebiotic ingredients (raw vegetables) help feed the probiotic ingredients (sauerkraut). Macronutrients include complex carbs, fat, and proteins. This recipe calls for eggs and half an avocado, adding nutrient-density to the bowl. A drizzle of kefir tops it all off for even more probiotic power.

Seeded Warm Goat Cheese Salad

This savory and sweet salad bowl has super food spinach as a base and is topped with antioxidant-loaded blueberries and goat cheese coated in sesame seeds for rich flavors. The dressing is an olive oil base, adding healthy fats to the mix.

Antioxidants are essential for combatting free radicals, which “hit” the DNA in every cell of the human body about 10,000 times a day. Along with protecting DNA, antioxidants defend against dementia, protect the heart, and more. Blueberries are among the top sources of antioxidants, making this salad tasty and nutrient-dense.

Sweet Potato Taco Bowl

With a southwestern flair this Sweet Potato Taco Bowl is dense with complex carbs and fiber (hello, beans!) to keep you full, fat to feed your brain, and a variety of seasonings to spice up the flavors! Topped with juicy corn and tomatoes, you’ll want to cheer “Olé!”

Lunch should be mouth watering, but it should also be dense and full of nutrients to power you through the afternoon. Give any of these bowl recipes a try or make up your own ideas! Happy lunching.

These five food start-ups will help in your pursuit of the perfect meal- making your taste buds, bank account, and body happy.

Food for All

The premise of Food For All is to “rescue” restaurant meals before they end up in the trash at closing time. All you have to do is download the app, select an unsold meal from a restaurant near you, and pick-up your meal at a designated time before closing.
There may be a chill in the air here in New England, but our fall menu takes inspiration from the sunshine of the Mediterranean!

Close your eyes- you are now in Santorini, Greece. The salty breeze of the Mediterranean Sea is brushing along your hair. The breeze adds coolness to the sunny day, like a nice autumn evening. You are engulfed by the vibrant colors of azure, turquoise, bright white, creams, and roses as the sun sets on the picture perfect hillside of Santorini. A fresh, savory fragrance shifts your attention to a luscious spread of char grilled kabobs, fresh oregano, sage and olives, lemon citrusy notes, and fresh baked pita.

Okay, so we can’t send you to Greece, but our fall menu can certainly transport your senses to the Mediterranean even if only for your lunch hour. While last year’s menu was inspired by traditional fall flavors of maple, apples, and cinnamon, this year we’re focusing on global flavors, culture, and health.

Mediterranean food, like New England fall fare, is oriented around warming ingredients and seasonings. We incorporated sage, tarragon, and roasted root vegetables along with warm hummus, tomatoes, and goat and feta cheeses to create dishes that will deliver everything you want from a savory fall meal. By featuring Mediterranean cuisine, we’re also excited to introduce our new partnership with Samira’s Homemade hummus and dips!

We can’t wait for you to try our Chicken Kaparo served with garlic oil and a lemon caper sauce, or our Sicilian Pesce with orange and crispy garlic. We also have a Balkan Beef for red meat fans that’s drizzled with white gravy, as well as the oregano and citrus seasoned Tofu Thalia for vegans and vegetarians.

Speaking of which, our Heart of the Roots sides are 80% vegan and delicious. We infused the Mediterranean’s favorite vegetables- and chickpeas!- into our Horiatiki Garden salad and zucchini and red and sweet potatoes star in Tostato Zuchinni and Mega Herb Roots, respectively.

And no dish is fully Mediterranean without a sauce! Choose from Basil Balsamic Vinaigrette, our Homemade Greek Vinaigrette, traditional yogurt-based Tzatziki, or Sweet Chili.

Summer may be winding down, but we’re making fall all about the sunshine and seashore that inspires warming Mediterranean meals.

So we know lunch is important, but why?

More

At this point, we’re well-acquainted with the importance of breakfast to health and metabolism, but what about lunch? If you eat a wholesome breakfast, does lunch even matter?

If you’ve ever been so busy at work that you skipped lunch, aside from experiencing hanger, you probably experienced decreased energy and brain fog, and later, increased sugary snacking - a common side effect of the brain seeking quick (but less than ideal) glucose sources.

So we know lunch is important, but why?

What Your Brain Thinks About Lunch

Your brain wants lunch - it’s how it gets glucose (the stuff it runs on) in the afternoon, and it can get it from a wide variety of foods you eat. Kids are notoriously picky eaters; brains aren’t. But just because your brain will run on both candy corn and grilled salmon doesn’t mean you should have a handful of candy corn for the midday meal. Quality matters.

Rather than simply converting to “brain food,” your meals are broken down in your body in multiple processes that contribute to different aspects of cognition. Your gut plays a significant role, determining the strength of your brain synapses and secreting hormones that influence your emotions, memory, and information processing.

It’s little wonder that the quality of the food you eat determines how you think and feel. What your brain can do with candy corn is simply less effective than what it can do with omega-3 fatty acid-rich foods like salmon and flax seeds.

With a nutritious lunch, you’ll enhance the following:

Mood

Good nutrition improves your mood. Eating well can make you happier and more relaxed.

Productivity

Opting for foods like fruits and vegetables is linked to becoming more innovative, engaged and motivated. But healthy meal planning takes time, a precious resource when only 62% of North American workers feel encouraged to break for lunch. This is where corporate lunch catering can be most beneficial, saving time and promoting productivity while nourishing the body.

Choose a caterer that provides thoughtful lunches. Rootastes chefs prepare scrumptious, creative dishes packed with veggies and whole grains to keep you feeling alert and satisfied throughout the day.

Long-Term Health

Looking out for your future self starts with your plate. Healthy eating reduces the risk of developing non-communicable diseases, so let your lunch break work for you and steer clear of fast foods.

We owe it to ourselves to take lunch seriously. Fortunately, with some simple, smart choices like ordering sushi over visiting the vending machine, making the most of lunchtime is a cinch.

The phrase “out to lunch” is extra special when you live in Boston. With rich history and as many sights to see as there are restaurants, you’ll never go hungry- or feel bored!- in The City on a Hill.

Next time you’re visiting the city or taking a break from your Boston employer, check out any of these popular lunch areas.

Copley Square

Originally known as Art Square for its numerous cultural institutions, it was later renamed after painter John Singleton Copley, renowned as the most influential painter of the colonial era.

Today Copley Square is home to the beautiful Trinity Church, Boston Public Library, stunning views of the Back Bay, and a variety of contemporary and ethnic restaurants to choose from.

Newbury Street

Boasted as “Boston’s most enchanting street” and “Rodeo Drive of the East,” Newbury Street is an avenue of high profile retailers with local favorites tucked in.

Modeled with European design elements in mind, Newbury Street started as a residential neighborhood and evolved into a retail and dining district not long after. It’s broad sidewalks and storefronts that extend onto the walkways add charm to the neighborhood that- up until the mid 1800s, was part of Boston Harbor.

Faneuil Hall

Yes, we know Faneuil Hall is a hot spot for tourists, but you can’t beat eating at the very place our nation’s founders proclaimed as “The Cradle of Liberty.” Opt for a quick bite within the hall or visit the surrounding neighborhood for a more formal sit-down meal.

During the summer months, take your lunch to go and stroll a few blocks to the waterfront.

Boston Common

Enjoy your lunch in America’s oldest city park, Boston Common. You’ll be greeted by lush landscape and a majestic view of the State House, and in warmer months, there are plenty of opportunities to join an exercise group for a refresh before heading back to work.

Whether you bring your lunch or order out at one of the nearby fine restaurants, soak in the sun and history at Boston Common.

North End

The North End is Boston’s oldest residential community with first settlers arriving in the 1630s. Today the North End is known for its Italian American population and authentic Italian restaurants. Visit for gnocchi, chicken Parmesan, pizza, and- of course- cannoli!

While in the North End, be sure to take in the historic American Revolution sites such as the Old North Church and Paul Revere’s house.

Take a shortcut!

It can certainly take some time to get around the buzzing city of Boston, and we know you want to enjoy the maximum amount of time on your lunch break. Enter corporate lunch catering.

Place your order online, receive it at your office, and then take it to enjoy at any of the above locations!

Instead of taking having a sad desk lunch at your office, take it to go or dine out in one of Boston’s many popular lunch spots.

We are Rootastes, a health-focused lunch catering service. We create fresh and energizing lunch programs as a perk for the staffs of fast-growing and culture-centric companies in Greater Boston. At the root of it all, we strive to improve workplace wellness, increase employee productivity, and support community agriculture through corporate lunch consumption.

Rootastes began with an epiphany had by our co-founder, Mint. After graduating from Boston College, Mint worked in an office environment where she would eat the same lunch every. Single. Week.

Mint soon discovered that:

1. Office admins spend an average of 10 hours per week sourcing lunch for their employees. Even working with third parties adds variables such as time, taste, quality, and service.

2. Many employees have dietary restrictions such as being gluten-free or vegan and many catering services will not customize to them.

3. Corporate lunch gets boring!

Rootastes opened in early 2017 to create an exciting corporate lunch experience without compromise. We envision food that is not only authentic and tastes great; it’s also made with healthier, fresher ingredients.

At Rootastes, we believe that a great lunch can create a more positive and productive environment for employees, and deliver measurable results to a company’s bottom line- but we also strive for more.

This year we are committed to making a greater impact on our community and the world both operationally and from aspirational viewpoint.

Rootastes’ menu changes seasonally based on what’s fresh at local farms, allowing us to support them year round. Our containers are compostable and biodegradable and we work to end food waste by donating leftover fresh ingredients from our refrigerators to shelters in our community, such as Women’s Health Place on Newbury Street.

On a greater level, we are committed to having a positive impact on our customers. By sourcing local ingredients we are able to deliver fresh, savory, seasonal, and energizing lunches to more than 180 forward-thinking companies. We love what they do, and they love us back:

“Delicious, so fresh, and arrived on time and my employees are eating better!” –Nucleus Scientific, Joya N., Cambridge, MA

Furthermore, we believe in the mission of iFundWomen which empowers women to start and grow their own businesses. With our collaboration with the mayor of the City of Boston, we believe that we can make this happen together to improve Boston's workforce. On a more personal level, we plan to expand our own business to other major locations - one city at a time.

We have worked very hard to get to this point and are so excited to share this project with you! We are currently fully focused on reaching our funding goal of $50,000 that will allow us to purchase a catering van to transport food more effectively to your team, increase our staff (because we believe that investing in people is at the core of any organization), and have an improved ordering system that will organize our orders and increase the efficiency of our operations team.

Our Rootasters love what we do and the impact we’ve had on our hometown over the past year. Thank you to our customers and community who have supported our mission and us. We appreciate you and your continued support of Rootastes.

We’re taking a trip to Mexico with Rootastes’ summer menu! Our inspiration came from an evening of savoring and talking about southwestern and Mexican food; we admired not only the flavors and spices, but the colorful ingredients as well.

Making its debut on our Mexican inspired menu is Chicken Fajita, roasted chicken breast with fajita seasoning atop red and yellow bell peppers and garnished with fresh parsley. It pairs well with grains and our Corn You Salsa.

Our seasonal shrimp has been tossed with a favorite Mexican duo of cilantro and lime, which we love pairing with our Summer Beets salad. For summer it’s dressed with our very berry vinaigrette atop arugula.

Steak lovers rejoice! Our Honolulu Steak is a taste of the tropics with its pineapple juice, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and olive oil marinade. If pork is more your style, you’ll love our Cuban spiced Mojo Pork.

Lemon Garlic Tofu is a savory treat for vegetarians, which we recommend siding with Summertime Kale’in, this season’s coleslaw featuring kale, carrot, fennel, and purple cabbage garnished with fennel seeds. We skipped the mayo this time.

We’re ready to start a mariachi band in celebration of our summer beverages, including Summer Sunset, a Thai iced tea with orange, and Ruby Red, a Roselle beverage.

And for dessert, we’re serving a toasted coconut cream pudding we call Pina Toastada. It’s gluten free!

Our chefs carefully selected each ingredient on our summer menu by handpicking from local farms or harvesting in their own backyards. Their rigid practice ensures optimal freshness and flavor, and allows us to continue to support local agriculture.

“I’m really excited and can’t wait to share our Spring menu with everyone,” exuded Chef Faye Praparat Prapawicha, Rootastes’ executive chef, with a big smile on her face. Rootastes’ menu is not only well-known for impressive and delicious food, but also our visually appealing dishes that make you savor with your eyes. Chef Faye has lead the team to cast a magical spell in the kitchen and develop remarkable recipes for each season.

It’s been almost a year since Chef Faye joined the team, and since then she has never stop creating our amazing seasonal menus. With each new season, our customers look forward to her new savory and fresh creations. We always wonder what’s the secret behind her recipes, and in case you are looking for inspiration for a new recipe, Chef Faye has allowed us a sneak peek on her process!

Today we have Chef Faye with us to share her thoughts and inspiration for our newly launched Spring menu, as well as insights about selected seasonal ingredients with a heart to create a perfect office lunch for everyone.

Freshness = Flavorful

“I always take into consideration the freshness of every ingredient. The more fresh it is, the more flavorful it is. In addition to freshness, we have a strong desire to support local businesses, and since we have wonderful local sources, our ingredients always come with the quality and freshness that I am looking for,” revealed Chef Faye. She continued telling us the story behind her last Fall menu item, McIntosh Farfelle. This menu was a huge success as all ingredients were all fresh and locally harvested.

Chef Faye picked the apples herself at a local orchard in Massachusetts. “There are many kinds of apples, but if you’re thinking of New England, you’re going to think McIntosh, and there is nothing better than fresh McIntosh apples from the tree.” She added, “For our Spring menu, our team picks the ingredients every morning from local markets. We strive to serve the best right to your workplace.”

Tales of the recipe

Not only does precisely selecting the best ingredients from local sources make a difference but also creating the best recipes for every season with an inspiring story behind each one.

“I always get inspired by everything around me, and I do believe every single place has its own story. That’s why our globally-inspired menu always has a tale behind it,” Chef Faye grinned.

If you take a look at our Spring Menu, you can see the perfect combination of ingredients excited to be tasted. Clearly, our chef has inspiration from around the world with such dishes as Viking Stew, Moroccan Spiced Pork, and Shrimp De Parma.

“For me, Spring always represent freshness and a new beginning. When flowers start to bloom and there’s tons of newborn life around us. It’s just amazing,” Chef Faye answered when we asked how she selects her Spring ingredients. “For example, for our new premium menu item, Green Is In The Air, I chose cucumber as the main character. Refreshing cucumber for Spring- don’t you think it’s a perfect match?”

Various savory dishes

Rootastes intends to not only serve delicious food but also a variety on our menu. “You may get bored with your routine lunch, but I believe you will not feel that way with our diverse menu. We change it seasonally and add special menu items each month. What a company!”

“This season we’re collaborating with Bauman’s Best Botanicals, a locally owned drinking vinegar producer, to create our premium menu items such as Broccoli X Marsala and Lady Marmalade. I intend to serve a healthy yet creative dish. I would love to see how our customers are enjoying our diverse dishes both visually and flavourly,” Chef Faye explained. “And for those who love sweets, Rhubarb Strawberry Tart Cup and Avocado Pudding are ready to be enjoyed as a dessert!”

At Rootastes, we also have a customized meal for people with allergies.

The team curates dishes to match customer needs and stands behind the belief that everyone deserves the best meal to refresh their energy during a long workday.

“We understand that sometimes you have to rush or fuss with a long line during your lunch break, but with us, you don’t need to deal with that. Our team serves fresh and energizing lunches right to your office,” she said with confidence. “They don’t just keep you physically healthy, but mentally as well.”

The weather is becoming a bit warmer. A flower starts to bloom. It’s a sign of a new beginning and trying something new. Let’s spring into this lively season and share refreshing vibes by bringing healthy lunch to your office with us, Rootastes!
