The Slips (as lifted from their myspace...)

Four years, hundred hour weeks, living and sleeping in the biggest studios in London, David Treahearn and Rob Haggett worked with everyone from Madonna and Gwen Stefani to Björk, Massive Attack and FischerSpooner, before breaking out to form The Slips in the summer of 2007.

Inspired by the European sound wash of Digitalism and Sebastian, and by Diplo and Cornelius from over the seas, they began cranking out pulsating glitch disco from their London bunker.

Their remix of CSS's Music Is My Hot Hot Sex was picked up and thrown across the airwaves by everyone from Rob da Bank at Radio One to Vicarious Bliss at Ed Banger.

The Slips have been working with Mirwais on new artist Y.A.S; and the French producer is also remixing their first UK single, due for limited release in September 2008.

Yes folks, the past two weeks have been hectic so we're only able to give you the 9th podcast now. But it's a predominantly electro episode! As promised in the last rpeisode. Aside from having a hectic two weeks though, we also made some mistakes in the recordings which gave us a hard time. (Well given that we were 4 people without sleep and running on potato chips and beer, we're no longer wondering what happened.) We also have Dixi straight out of Singapore by way of Hong Kong.

And why do we have 6 pictures on here? Because yes we play 6 songs this time around! Is that excitement I hear? Yes I can hear your excitement through the internets.

So Ayisse is leaving for Singapore tomorrow so the next episode will have Remeeka guest-hosting again. Yey. *Cymbal sounds* Actually I haven't checked with her yet but I'm inviting myself into her house for some random recording session.

I can't say yet what's going to happen in the next episode but music-wise it will range from easy listening to noisy experimental. Who knows, since it'd be me and Rem rambling, you'd probably hear about us declaring undying love for New York City in various ways. Or not.

Really, now. But hope this issue is worth the wait. This may well be the "RPE Shitty Episode." You don't get as much laughs from this one compared to the others (where we basically just laugh the whole episode). Well it's a side we haven't quite shown yet I suppose. But judging from past comments we've made anyone can see that we are indeed pathetic, lonely people :O Someone should make a club. The Lonely Radioactive Pink Elephants club.

No, please, don't make one. It will only make things more ~~tragic~~ pathetic. Know though, that with this episode, we attempt to "touch your heart," as Ayisse would say. Hmm this week went by pretty fast. What have we got next?

We will be releasing the 5th podcast (ohoy! 5 podcasts and still running!) sometime Saturday evening. Make sure you download it and it'd be great if you could listen to it in the morning once you wake up.

Alot of people would probably be relieved to hear no, I suppose. (But again, random stuff and Japan is what are podcasts are pretty much made of.) This is a nearly hour-long podcast where we focus more on 2 bands, play 7 songs in total, and talk about random amusing crap. It's not everyday that you stumble upon a really good band so we were pretty excited and decided to do a double feature instead.

Flamboyant Bella
Hitchin, East UK

They're a four piece band from Hitchin, England and we give you three different songs by them. First we play Crazy Cool which should set a bit of the mood for the rest of the podcast. Next from the band is Absolutely Wankered which we guarantee will be playing back over and over inside your head everytime you're in a drunken haze. Lastly is a cover of Bootylicious which is better than any permutation of an RnB song anybody has ever done. Hopefully though it would make you go support the band and order a copy of one of their albums instead of running to the nearest music store and buying a Destiny's Child album.

They're so awesome in fact that I decided to order their latest EP, Lost In These Beats, eve...

Seeing as fieldwork for me has been hectic the past week, and Ayisse was I dunno, busy being sad (right? or not?) we haven't been able to keep up with schedule. Then again we're not letting this week pass without an episode of the RPE. We were supposed to drop the new episode earlier this morning but we didn't foresee that we'd get absolutely wankered.* And so, and so, and so we bring you...

A DOUBLE FEATURE! Co-hosted by a third elephant.

We'll be featuring two bands from opposite ends of the world (yes we like to romanticise these kinds of things). Four teenagers from Hitchin, England and a female-fronted three piece band from Tokyo, Japan. Apart from this we'll also be playing songs from a japanese band we've featured before and a group of guys from Galway, Ireland.

We said this is an online radio show and indeed, we talk lots in this episode (well, way more than we usually do). In this RPE: Subversively Japan Issue you'll find us ranting about youtube, vlogging, Magibon, japanese idols, and... Magibon and japanese idols.

What are all these internet references we talk about on this podcast? Well... you can opt to waste two hours or so of your life watching Magibon's videos. We also talk about Masuda Takahisa (Massu) and Matsumoto Jun. There's also Hana Yori Dango and the remake of Akira Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress which is now showing under the direction of Shinji Higuchi as The Last Princess (trailer link).
