In 1905 , the worlds first Santa Claus Parade was held in Toronto. It was a small affair that year, amounting to a solitary Santa walking from the city’s Union Station up Yonge Street to the Eaton’s department store. The parade quickly grew and, despite financial difficulties that nearly derailed the event in the 1980’s, the Toronto Santa Claus is still a popular annual tradition that is broadcast around the world.

GLUTEN FREE DEATH BY CHOCOLATE RECIPE

Well if you are a regular reader of my blog then you are aware that one of my children is Celiac. My eldest was diagnosed in 2009 so we had to make some adjustments in our house when it came to baking and cooking. That being the background another piece of information is that my husband’s family is very large and we always celebrate Christmas early (sort of like a family reunion) and one of the best loved deserts is called, ‘Death by Chocolate.’ Paige being Celiac I made a Gluten Free version of the ‘Death by Chocolate!’ Check out this yummy picture…
Here is the recipe starting with the cake:

1 1/2c Gluten Free flour (1 1/4c rice flour, 1/4c of tapioca flour)
1/2 c cocoa
1 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. guar gum or 3/4 tsp. xanthan gum
5 tbsp. cooking oil
1tbsp vinegar
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
1 egg
1 c water

Mix all dry ingredients in a bowl.
Add all liquid ingredients and mix well.
Bake in greased and floured 9” square pan (or lined with parchment paper), at 350 for 30 –35 minutes until toothpick inserted comes out clean.

When the cake is done let cool then cut into small pieces
Now the ‘Death by Chocolate’ part of the recipe:

2c of whipping cream
1 tsp. vanilla
3 tbsp. of sugar
1 pkg of chocolate pudding
1 pkg of skor chipits

Start by mixing the package of chocolate pudding as per it’s directions and set in fridge.
Using your mixer whip up your whipping cream and when it is close to being done add your vanilla and sugar. Beat until stiff
Mix your chocolate cake pieces with the chocolate pudding, adding half of your skor chipits and all of your whipping cream together in your bowl.
Just before serving decorate the top of your desert with the left over skor chipits and ENJOY!

Because this is a Gluten Free desert there are no calories ha ha ha ha.

I made sure that I put a magnet in Cookie Monster so when he played the game the card part would stay closed. As for the Tic Tac Toe pieces I made two different colored chocolate chip cookies. His reaction, “Mini chocolate chip cookies Mom!” He liked it!

Today I hope I make yours. A fellow demonstrator Cindee Wilkinson shared with us a Christmas banner which she used our new Simply Scored tool to make. So of course I had to make my own version too, here are some pics

I really had a fun time making this and I finally have a good reason to those little wooden wreaths that I have been hoarding the last few years. I wouldn’t make anything for my door that I wouldn’t be proud of showing it off. I really hope you like it.

I grabbed my distressing kit and used the blue to stamp the Merry Christmas and edging of the Very Vanilla CS. I wanted a little bit different coloring here so I could add interest.

SUDSOL BLOG TOUR STARTS TODAY

I hope you really enjoyed the last blog, weren’t they awesome projects! I hope you enjoy mine! I really went out of my comfort zone when I made these and this time two out of the three projects I used tutorials that were provided on Sudsol for FREE when you become a member. Here are my projects!

The common theme between all of my projects happens to be using the new Stitched Felt Winter Wishes product out of our current holiday mini. This first project I took the tutorial out of our SUDSOL patterns for the Diorama card. Honest to goodness I thought the measurements were wrong because it does actually fit into our medium envelopes and it was too easy. That's my problem, when I think a project is too hard I get intimidated but when I make the attempt and discover how easy it is--I go into shock--LOL

The supplies for this project are:

Now for my next project I also used a pattern from SUDSOL. It's called the Center Step Card, once again I used the Stiched Felt Winter Wishes. Take a look...

Last but not least this one is by far my favorite as I like to do punch art. Now you might see this one is similar to others that are out there but the use of our Stitched Felt Winter Wishes and the Velvet stitched ribbon might just make the difference. Who knew that the Builder Bird Punch could be so useful. Take a look!

Here are the supplies for this project:

Cherry Cobbler CS 8.5 x 5.5"
Whisper White CS 5.25 x 4"
Daffodil Yellow CS 2 x 6"
Basic Black CS 3 x 3"
Wild Wasabi CS 8.5 x 11" (you will go through that when you punch out the branches)
Stitched Felt Winter Wishes
Wild Wasabi Classic Ink pad
Calypso Coral Classic Ink pad
Bird Builder, Stocking Builder punch
Textured Impressions Embossing Folder in Stripes
paper snips
Stitched Stockings Stamp set
3/8" Velvet Stitched Ribbon Very Vanilla
Mini Clothespins embellishments

How to information:

This step is easy, fold over your Cherry Cobbler CS in the landscape side.
Grab your Stripes folder and your Whisper White CS and put it through your big shot. Now cut out the middle section by 2.75" on both sides and leave approx 1.5" from the top. Sort of making a window here.
Attach your Basic Black CS to that with your snail.
Grab your Bird Builder Punch and punch out 3 birds in daffodil yellow. Cut the beak off and sponge the edges with your Calypso Coral Classic Ink. Place them together with snail then put it into the middle of your fireplace.
While your at it grab your Wild Wasabi classic ink and stamp your stocking. Punch it out with your Stocking builder punch. Set it aside.
Now sit back, relax, grab your Bird builder punch and your Wild Wasabi CS and punch away the branch section lots and lots (Love the wording here, LOL). When you are done that, cut off the excess of the stem and start attaching them to the top of your fireplace. Play with it here, there is no right or wrong, just try to make it full.
After you have zoned from doing that, grab your 3/8" Velvet Stitched Ribbon and place it across your stems and attach with either snail or sticky strip to the back.
Grab your mini clothes pins to attach your stocking and your mitts around the flame (not too close you don't want them to catch fire ha ha). I found that I had to add a couple of mini glue dots to the mitts to keep them in place.
Then attach that whole piece to your base using dimensonials.

Because this one is a little time intensive I would recommend that you make two since you will be cutting the Cherry Cobbler into two pieces out of the 8.5 x 11 and when you cut out the Whisper White. I hope that little tidbit helps you out. Now my next dilemma, which lucky family member is going to get these little beauties this year. Ha ha! Please leave a comment and tell me what YOU think?

Gluten Free Sugar cookies

Well I am not sure about how these turned out. Rule #1 with gluten free baking, use a binding agent such as guar gum or xantham gum (which I did). Rule #2 let the baking cool completely before moving. Rule #3 when modifying a regular recipe, modify your cooking time be extending at least 5 minutes longer than what the recipe calls for.
Now because my Sudsol sisters requested that I try this recipe and to use our new cookie stamps so I did. What I learned was this—no matter the recipe and tips and tricks—when it comes to gluten free cookies that it is best to stamp the cookie AFTER it comes out of the oven. I learned this because I stamped before (then gasp it spread) so I said what the heck and stamped after.
Here is a picture of the cookies and yes I know they look terrible. (if I had more granulated sugar, I would make an attempt at batch number 2) I will try again this weekend. So here it is…

So here is the recipe I used:
4 cups flour (3 c mixture of rice and potato flour/1c tapioca flour)
4tsp guar gum
1 cup butter or margarine
2 cups sugar
2 tsp vanilla or fresh vanilla bean
1/2 tsp salt
2 eggs
A little extra flour for rolling. Oven at 325 (Preheat of course) and I would cook them for 25 minutes.
Now again the trick here is to stamp AFTER they have cooked, let them cool before moving, then decorate them with icing to enhance the image. I didn’t have enough icing sugar to even make that attempt.
Now the biggest test of all was the taste test, 1. Batter test yummmy! 2. Child tested and approved – BONUS!!!!

How Was Your Halloween?

We sure had a quiet night here last night. Less than 30 kids showed up at our door so all of those Halloween treat bags that I made went out and hopefully appreciated by the parents. On the news we were told that the kids should eat all of their candy last night then brush their teeth as eating a little bit a day will cause more cavities. DH won’t allow that LOL. Well Alyssa dressed up as a rock star, take a look…

Now if your Celiac or know someone who is, like my daughter Paige we had to go through the candy and sort through things that she COULD NOT have, which are:

Doritos
Liquorice
Chocolate bars such as Smarties, Crispy Crunch, Mr. Big and anything that might have crunch.Nuts are the exception unless you have a nut allergy in your house.

So needless to say we had to do trades with Alyssa and what was left over Mommy and Daddy got! Woot Woot!

Right now I am working on a case from another project that I have seen that will grace my front door this holiday season. I should have it done to share with you tomorrow so watch for that and my question to you…how many kids did YOU have at your door last night??

Wow we had an awesome weekend, hope yours was too! Are you ready for Halloween, we are! Tomorrow I will post pictures of the kids in their costumes and with all the loot they came home with.

This weekend we celebrated Alyssa’s 8th birthday. She is growing so fast it in and of itself is scary. My babies are growing up so fast! So of course it was a Halloween celebration and frankly I really was impressed with how my cake for her turned out. She wanted a spider web cake and with the new cake turntable and edger I bought this is how it turned out. Take a look…

FEAR OF VELLUM!

Today I decided that I was just going to make something for the sake of creating and nothing else. No tutorials, no stress, just for fun! On the Inkspiration 4U Christmas Edition 2011 there was a color challenge for the week which included the Stampin' Up! colors Cherry Cobbler, Night of Navy and Gold. My title does say 'fear of vellum' and to be truthfully honest I have had a fear of vellum for many years. I love the elegance it brings along with a touch of class but...I never could get it to work right. I tried printing on it, overlaying, but until I became a SU demo I never had stamped on it. Well today is the day...take a look...

I used our gold embossing powder and embossed on the vellum! I really like the new 3/8" quilted satin ribbon in the Cherry Cobbler (which by the way has become my new holiday favorite color!!) which you can find in the new holiday mini. Add some gold brads and I think you have a winner.

Now I will be slammed these next couple of days as I will be volunteering at the school with a ton of errands so I don't know if I will be posting. That being said I plan on making something special for my nephew for his birthday (a tad late) but I won't be posting it until later Friday afternoon. So if you don't hear from me you know why. Until then, I will talk to soon!

I am still here!!! That is if you have been wondering where I have been the last two days. But since you are following and I consider you my friends the least I can do is share with you what has been going on while I have a moment.

I meant to blog on Wednesday but a crisis developed here so that had to be dealt with and by the time I was going to check in and say hi, the email update wouldn't have made it in time. That day over. When they say bad things happen in threes well that is true. My precious baby Bella (she is my dog) got into something that day and got really sick, woke me up at 2AM Thursday morning still throwing up and just kept going on. It was so bad she had some blood in it around 6 am. I bet you are wondering why I didn't take her to the vet, well that is easy enough no money. So with all of the errands I had to run I was worried that she wouldn't make it but GOOD NEWS she relaxed and got better!

Now I have been watching Oprah's Life Class on her network called OWN, I must be going through a mid life crisis (Bwaaaa haaaaa) as I have a had a few AHA moments. One of which is I have finally figured out my calling of getting enjoyment out of making people happy and seeing their faces of joy from when they learn something new. In other words being able to teach what I love to do! One of the winners from my blog candy said this (and made me cry while reading it)

SKATES R US!

This is going to be a quick post and I must admit I cheated -) Well that all depends on what the intention was. I WILL be doing a hard copy version of the two pictures I have of my daughters skating for the second time but I thought I would do a digital version for now until I get the photos printed. I will be uploading it to the Sudsol gallery later today for the Scrapbook Challenge and speaking of which I will be announcing shortly the date of the next SUDSOL BLOG TOUR! I am a part of it again and this time I am second on the list!!! (Blushing here) but I am really impressed at how the projects turned out! Really went out of my comfort zone for these and have to figure out which lucky family member will get them for Christmas, he he (Blushing still :))

Found out a very dear friend passed away last Saturday and therefore another memorial service. I HAVE FOUND THE CURE!!!

Ha! I bet you thought I found the cure for cancer or something like that, well nope that's not it. This post has nothing to do with stamping, or creating or anything like that. If your wondering where I have been all day I have been busy working on my next project for my 12 weeks till Christmas program and finished the tutorial for my Stamp a Stack Christmas Edition 2011 that I am having next week. For those who cannot attend I will have the tutorials available for sale shortly.

Now back to the cure!!! I happen to be watching my daughter's favorite TV show and I discovered an app for my ipod. Let me share with you a pet peeve of mine, I have been driving for many years and I always go 10KM over the speed limit, police don't stop you at that speed. However, when I am on the highway and people pass me going faster and I do mean faster than I, I get really upset. There is nothing I can do about it now...sit down...you are going to roll over laughing...download a free siren app!!!! When you attach your ipod to your radio, when they drive by turn on your app with the sound up, windows down and watch the BRAKE LIGHTS TURN ON!!!!! Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!!!

Or if someone cuts you off or does something illegal, including talking on their cell phone etc., put that siren on and watch them freak. I had been planning on making signs and keeping them in the car or my husband taking them to work for all the idiots he sees on the road but this, this app has saved the day. CURE your frustration and download that app. Watch the fun. Have a great night.

Memories For Mom

I participate in yet another fun challenge on Sudsol (Demonstrators click on the link in the sidebar to get your free 2 week trial!) and this time the challenge included a 6 x 6 scrapbook page...

this time, after having it for awhile now and not used it, I decided to play with my large two-step bird punch. My upcoming Special Class this month will be utilizing this punch for some card making fun!

However, this challenge, wanted a matching card to go with it...

and I am pretty sure I will be sending this card to my Mother for all that she does for me now that my Father has passed. I believe a strong card should go to a strong woman and she deserves it!
