It’s time to start thinking about the New Year which means people around the world will be making their New Years Resolution. My resolution for the 2012 year is: to get straight A’s in my next two social work classes (I’m in graduate school) AND to start Weight Watchers. I’ve struggled with my weight for the past couple of years and I’m tried. I’m tried of wishing a magic weight loss pill into existence because it isn’t going to happen. And I’m tired of trying to figure out what the best weight loss pills are because I know most of them won’t get me to where I want to be. Instead, I’m going to try the WW program, because I know it can be successful, and really stick to it. I’m not going to get down about myself if I can’t complete my resolution because for me it’s more about trying than anything else.

I would go to the school library and check out the biggest, fattest horse book they had available. Then I would take it home with me and sit outside in the grass browsing through all the different kinds, marvling over the colors and which ones I would love to own. This was when I was about 8 or 9 and lived in Hawaii, and also a time when my dad use to be a rodeo cowboy – no joke. My dad use to ride bulls and do some horse racing when we lived in Hawaii. I have fond memories of watching him compete. He had the nicest pair of equestrian boots, cowboy hat and jeans and a huge belt buckle to go along with it. I miss those days…I never got into horse racing like I wanted and we never owned our own horses like my mom and dad planned, but it was nice to have the experiences.

In fact, I can’t think of any time in my 25 – almost 26! – years, where I’ve had flowers delivered to me! I can probably count the times I’ve seen my co-workers have flowers delivered to them from boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands, wives or just friends for various occasions, but never once has that person been me. Maybe I should start hinting to the boyfriend that he needs to setup his game and give me flowers more often…I think I deserve it!

One of those things include painting the walls a color other than WHITE and not having to worry about repainting when our lease is up. However, on a grander scale, I look forward to shopping for nice furniture for all the rooms; one of the places I’ve always wished I could afford was Pottery Barn but even with pottery barn coupons, I don’t think I’d be able to afford much! It’s nice to dream and have something to look forward too in the future.

My best friend and I seem to be on the same schedule with everything in our life. She got married one month and I was married the next. My husband and I bought our first house a few months ago and her husband and she just closed on their first house. She wanted to show me the new house and to be honest I was very anxious to see it. It is beautiful! I would be lying, if I said I wasn’t a little jealous. There are granite countertops in her kitchen. She has a beautiful backyard complete with a pool. A fancy alarm system installed by home Alarm Systems. She even has a home theater room. I see many girls’ nights at her house watching movies and a lot of sunbathing on the weekends. While I am slightly jealous, I am so happy for her and so excited about all the fun we are going to have with her new home. I guess now we just need to see who will be having the first kid and when.

However, I have started to question when that will actually happen. I have asked my boyfriend of four years when he thinks he’ll want to get married and I get the same ‘ol answer of “I don’t know” every time I ask. I could love to start planning a wedding, sending out wedding shower invitations and buying wedding magazines; it’s just something I look forward too. Hopefully, it’ll happen sometime soon!

I won’t return to Kansas until July 12th. So far, I have enjoyed my stay and have been busy with swimming and spending time with my little cousins. My grandfather has been busy working and my grandmother had been busy planning the birthday party for my great-grandmother who turned 90 on July 1st. The other day my grandfather was upset because his hose reel had broke; I told him to get a metal hose and he wouldn’t have to worry about it. Today has been pretty uneventful but I plan on going to the beach tomorrow.
