I went from a UK size 14 to a UK size 8 in a matter of months by juice dieting. The Skinny Blog is all about obtaining your dream body and keeping it. I will blog about diet news, celebrity weight loss, weight loss, body maintenance, toning and of course my own progress!

This blog is about being 'body beautiful', don't make assumptions based on the name. There are many posts on different diets, different dress sizes and favourable views on women of all healthy sizes. This blog is about MY desire to be a slim size and is in no way intended to disregard the fact that women can be attractive and happy at whatever size they choose for themselves.

All diets I carry out are embarked on after consulting a health professional, and I advise that anyone considering a diet featured here should do the same.

The Skinny Blog

<atom10:link xmlns:atom10="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom" rel="self" type="application/xml" href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/TheSkinnyBlog" />
<atom10:link xmlns:atom10="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom" rel="hub" href="http://pubsubhubbub.appspot.com/" />

The temptations that come with working in a kitchen...

My job means that I am around food ALOT!

In the kitchen the chef, the other waitresses and the pot washer munch constantly on chips. What does not help is, one of my fellow waitresses is not only a new mum (8 month old baby) but she is a naturally teeny size 6, and I have never seen anyone eat so much in my life.

So I am fighting temptation constantly. The good news is, all the walking that comes with waitressing and bar work means my 10,000 steps a day challenge is going well, as I walk a lot! I walk after a two year old, a 23 year old and customers at work. All of this walking means that I am pulling in just under 11,000 steps per day, well and truly meeting my 10,000 steps a day challenge.

So this means that I should be able to maintain my weight quite well. So I will be moving on to toning!

I will of course be focusing on my swiss ball, I am going to once again hit You Tube for more video inspiration, as I did with the belly dancing.

So back to me fighting temptation, if you want to fight temptation when it comes to food, remember that cravings last at the most ten minutes. Your cravings are in your head, not in your stomach!

I know I criticise the need for sizes designed to fit those who are morbidly obese on a regular basis, but that is because morbidly obese is no better than being seriously underweight. However, this for me falls in to a whole different issue.

Flight attendants are much more than just pretty ladies designed to hand us our tea and coffee, they must also be trained in health and safety and be physically able to assist others in the case of a crash or emergency landing on either land or water. So my view is they really should not be a size 22, let alone 32. Controversial? No. It is about health and safety, can a size 22 woman or man act with speed in a compressed space during dangerous situations? I doubt it.

My mother in law works for a British airline who are quite strict regarding the waist lines of their attendants. Not to the extent where every flight looks like a cat walk show, they have up to UK 16/18's. But health and safety is taken in to consideration before anything else, surely that should be the case everywhere?

 Comments

The 3 Day Diet is neither backed up by a clinic or book, so how it exists or has continued to exist, no one is quite sure. There are various rumours that float around regarding its origin, including the story that American army men use it to lose weight fast and the tale of models using it before run way shows.

This is the 3 day diet meal plan:

Day 1:

Breakfast: Black Coffee, 1/2 grapefruit or juice and 1 piece of toast with 1 tsp peanut butter.

Lunch: 1/2 cup of tuna, 1 piece of toast, 1 black coffee

Dinner: 3 ounces of lean meat, 1 cup of green beans, 1 cup of carrots, 1 apple and 1/2 cup of vanilla ice cream.

Day 2:

Breakfast: 1 egg, 1 black coffee, 1/2 banana, 1 piece of toast

Lunch: 1 cup of cottage cheese/tuna, 8 saltine crackers

Dinner: 2 beef franks, 1 cup of brocolli, 1/2 cup of carrots, 1/2 banana, 1/2 cup of vanilla ice cream

Day 3:

Breakfast: Black coffee or tea, 5 saltine crackers, 1 ounce of cheddar cheese, 1 apple

Lunch: Black coffee, 1 boiled egg, 1 piece of toast

Dinner: 1 cup of tuna, 1 cup of carrots, 1 cup of brocolli, 1 cup of melon, 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream

The three day diet does not include any exercise, it requires you to meet the daily recommended quota of 8 glasses of water a day and absolutely no substitutes can be made. The diet claims to help you lose 10 lbs. So, after consulting a dietician, I am embarking on the diet. I have been advised that it is not sustainable long term, as the main reason why you lose 10 lbs is due to calorie restrictions. Due to this it is a 'short term fix' and will inevitably result in weight gain afterwards, which is fine by me. I will be coupling the diet with a sensible eating programme afterwards (namely my meditarranean diet) to prove that weight gain is inevitable even with sensible eating. I am testing this diet following requests, as I am lucky enough to know people who can advise me for free and help me stay safe whilst diet testing, I would not recommend that anyone tries this on a whim and that all pre-existing health conditions are taken in to consideration prior to trying any diet.

 Comments

Although The Grapefruit diet is not an advisable diet to follow (I have tried and tested it, I felt very ill), there is apparently some truth behind the statement that grapefruits can help you burn fat.

Naringenin, the flavonoid found in citrus fruits, can help burn fat when eaten after a meal containing fat. A study conducted on mice has found that those who consume higher amounts of naringenin are less likely to become obese than those who don't. This same study has led researchers to believe that the long term benefits of consuming more naringenin could also see a lower chance of diabetes developing in obese individuals.

This has made me consider upping my grapefruit consumption. I aim to eat my 5 a day (and more) so it may not hurt to add 1/2 a grapefruit in each day.

 Comments

The 10,000 steps a day challenge is an initiative introduced by The NHS. It isn't very well publicised, which is why I am so keen to blog about it. It is exactly what it says on the tin, you attempt to meet the required 10,000 steps a day in order to meet your over all health. I am embarking on this challenge because I want to maintain my new body and new weight. It will be done alongside toning exercises (which I am yet to decide on, although I strongly suspect pilates is going to fit my daily routine best)

So this is what my daily routine consists of (in brief):

7:00 am- Awake and attending to my daughter/having breakfast.
8:00 am- Personal hygiene time (shower, moisturise, hair, make up,getting dressed etc)
9:00 am-Cleaning/housework/blogging
11:30 am-Work (bar work/waitressing, a lot of constant walking)
3:00pm-Over to my grandparents house, playing outside with my daughter
5:00pm-Home, cooking, blogging
6:00pm-Bathing my daughter/bed time routine
8:00pm- Rest

For the next 3 days I will use my pedometre according to that routine and measure my average steps per day. Then if I am not meeting my goals, I will adjust my routine to achieve them.

The third novel penned by Helen Fielding in 2005 saw Bridgett attempting to fall pregnant in her 40's. The untitled film is in its early stages, but I am really hoping that we will be seeing more of Colin Firth and Hugh Grant fighting in some extra embarassing scenes!

Rennee Zellweger reportedly follows a diet of bland foods, to suit her taste buds and not her waist line. She has previously stated that she loves the taste of egg whites and steamed veg and detests the ordeal of having to eat junk 24/7 for her Bridget Jones role.

Her 'plumping up' diet involves donuts, pizza, crisps and chocolate in copious amounts 24/7. This obviously is not the best way to put on weight, and isn't advisable.

To me Rennee looks far from fat in either of the Bridget Jones films, she is one of those lucky women who looks fantastic at any size, some more pictures as an example:

At a size 6

Her size 10 days in Empire Records

I am very much looking forward to seeing Renee back in her UK 14 giant knickers and summer dresses, as I am sure many British women (and men) are!

The book in itself is quite harsh, and in some ways it can be funny. The word 'fat' is thrown around a lot, this is all well and good for women who are thick skinned, however as the book is endorsed by Victoria Beckham who has been noted for featuring on 'thinspo' lists on pro-ana websites, the likelihood is there will be an overwhelming number of young girls who read the book and take its brusque attitude to heart.

The book is based on the principle that you must eat a completely vegan diet in order to achieve your skinny dreams. Not only is this not true, but it is also a dangerous message to put across to pregnant women who will most likely not be receiving the help of a dietician or nutritionist.

When I first bought the book, I asked a friend who is studying nutrition at post graduate level to review it first. She said it is not entirely mis-informed, but does not contain enough information about a vegan diet to ensure your average woman will meet all of her nutritional needs.

Over all The Skinny Blog gives The Skinny Bitch 3/10. 3 for effort and the sparse information it does provide, but it loses marks for its harsh attitude and the disgusting attempts made to encourage pregnant women to fret about their natural body form before giving birth.

Here is a book that makes a great alternative, it is called The Healthy Tart, I am hoping to review it soon and I have ordered my copy off Amazon to give it a whirl:

It is a sort of bite back at The Skinny Bitch publications.

And of course a book for healthy pre-natal and post natal eating:

Which if I had my way would be administered to all pregnant ladies for free on The NHS. It is well informed and takes you from conception to those rocky months after giving birth. A great, friendly read that will ensure you and your baby remain healthy! I would also like to point out to any pregnant women reading this that you need not worry about your post-natal figure, breast feeding burns 500-800 calories a day AND contracts your stomach, it takes 9 months for your figure to bloom and it should take 9 months to go back.

Walking or biking to work to improve your fitness can make a change to not just your body, but also to your future health.

My favourite city Paris is big on biking, and we all now how fantastic French men and women look! Biking is great for calorie burning and target toning. The cardiovascular aspect will burn fat and the constant use of your legs will target tone your calfs, thighs and buns. Biking for fitness need not be expensive, when I browsed through The Friday AD's today I saw plenty of AD's for bikes that were less than £50!

I am still a massive fan of The NHS 10,000 steps campaign and I am going to order a pedometre to track how many steps I make! I mentioned before that I had reached a UK size 8 and was happy with my new found body, so now I want to tone it. Walking is a gentle form of exercise that improves your over all health and is great for weight maintenance, so whilst I am exploring different toning options I will be embarking on my 10,000 steps a day campaign using a pedometre to track my progress.

So for the next two weeks I will be reporting on my 10,000 steps a day challenge and how I am achieving my 10,000 steps a day. I haven't received my pedometre yet, so my reporting will begin with what I do each day!

I should imagine it won't be too difficult for me, I work in a bar and walk up and down constantly, as well as chasing after a 2 year old...that should hopefully produce 10,000 steps a day!

 Comments

Get rid of your cellulite is not a diet, it is an exercise plan designed to rid you of cellulite permanently. Before I begin my review, I would like to set one thing straight: cellulite exists in 95% of individuals and once you get it, you cannot rid yourself of it completely, however you can reduce the appearance to the extent where it is not obviously visible.

Get rid of your cellulite provides you with a home exercise program, specialised cardio program and personalised cellulite reduction time table. The cellulite reduction is targeted to key areas, such as your arms, bum, legs and stomach. The Get rid of your cellulite plan aims to help you reduce your cellulite by following a simple, none time consuming daily routine and it aims to do it within 24 days!

Now as I mentioned before, you cannot rid yourself of cellulite completely. You can reduce cellulite to the extent where it is not obviously visible whilst you are in a bikini, shorts or a skirt, but small amounts will exist and that is inevitable in 95% of individuals. By following this program, you will target tone and work your body tissues to the extent where you will not be embarassed by the amount of cellulite you have.

The Pros of the Get rid of your cellulite Program

*It is not a diet. You don't have to restrict calories or weigh your food. You are simply aiming to target one of your body 'pet peeves'.
*It is not time consuming. 22 minutes a day can be achieved easily.
*It isn't expensive.
*It doesn't involve creams.
*The exercise involved is not overly strenuous and does help to reduce the appearance of cellulite

The Cons of the Get rid of your cellulite Program

*The claims it makes about removing cellulite completely are untrue. It does however reduce it dramatically.
*Once you follow the program, you must make an effort to use it every day to continue seeing the effects.

Overall, the Get rid of your cellulite program gets a 8/10 from The Skinny Blog. Like many other exercise programs it makes wild claims it can't live up to, but unlike the creams, fat flushes and wraps available on the market it can produce results. Compared to contour wraps I have tried in the past it has actually reduced the cellulite around my bum and upper thighs! It costs $49.95, which is actually quite a bit less than the creams/contour wrap treatments I used to pour money in to in order to reduce cellulite. If you are not 100% happy, you can get your money back and be confident that you at least tried!

 Comments

I should be posting regularly again after my week off to get sorted.

My first return post is about the mounting proof that a restricted diet will in fact lead to a longer life. Reducing your calorie intake by 30% can add an extra 25 years on to your life expectancy according to this article.

However, this comes with a price, you can not just cut a random 30% of calories from any portion of your diet and stick to other factors, your diet must be tailored and so to see the benefits from this lower calorie diet in terms of longevity you would have to do a lot of research and know your dieting stuff.

According to the article a lot more study needs to be conducted in order to ensure that the fine line between calorie restriction and malnutrition is not breached, so as interesting as this all is I would strongly advise that you don't attempt to just restrict your diet by 30% in the hope that you'll add an extra 25 years on.

The article finishes by pointing out that although this diet may increase your life expectancy it may not be entirely nutritious.

I'm looking forward to reading more on this study as it develops.

 Comments

UK Dieters Paid £1 for £1 in Essex:

This new pilot scheme has me on the fence.
A Healthy Diet in Pregnancy Makes For a Healthy Child:

I love this. A healthy diet in pregnancy should be common sense, but a lot of younger girls take eating for two literally and then fill their quota with bad calories. This is why I want to be a clinical specialist in teen pregnancy when I finish my midwifery degree, to educate on bits like this, breastfeeding etc. I think more women need to know that what you do whilst your child is in the womb can set the path for their future health. I just felt like sharing it because I feel passionate about balanced eating in pregnancy...however, I do think treats are needed too a pregnant woman needs cake as well as the healthy eating!

The majority of this Mayo Clinic endorsed diet revolves around the Greek version of mediterranean dieting. The Greeks are well known for their small amounts of meat and high levels of anti-oxidant rich fruits and veg. Small amounts of nuts, olive oil, healthy fats and red wine are encouraged on the diet (so long as your existing health conditions or age don't restrict you from consuming alcohol) as they are all known to lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer.

Your main sources of protein should come from fish, fish is high in omega-3 fatty acids, which lower your triglycerides and improve the health of your blood vessels.

Whole grain breads are encouraged as an important part of the diet. It is important that your carbohydrate sources are wholegrain as white carbohydrates do not contain the dietary fibre required to aid in digestion and are filled with corn starches and empty sugars.

Key Mediterranean Diet components include:

*Plenty of exercise
*Generous portions of fruit and vegetables
*Consuming healthy fats such as olive and canola oil
*Using herbs and spices as opposed to salt to flavour foods
*Eating small portions of nuts
*Drinking red wine in moderation (age and pre-existing health conditions allowing)
*Consuming very little red meat
*Eating shell fish at least twice a week (again, if you are allergic, obviously you should steer clear of this aspect)

The best bit about this diet is, it is Mayo Health Clinic endorsed. Very few diets get the holy grail of diet endorsements that is known as a Mayo Health Clinic endorsement, so you can be confident that any diet that does, is a healthy diet to choose.

I'm looking forward to carrying on more with this one and hopefully when I attempt to make a Mousakka with turkey mince instead of lamb mince this Sunday it won't taste odd!

I don't want to blog about the benefits and then hide the risks just because I favour it, so here we go:

A study conducted by the Australians and Vitenamese based on 2700 participants has found that vegetarians have 5% less bone density than those who eat meat. This lack of bone density is worse for vegans, however those that conducted the study feel that the magnitude of the bone density was 'insignificant'.

Read the study here

The study also says that because of the rise of Osteoporosis in the west alongside the rise in vegetarians, there may be some 'issues that need resolving' in general with the vegetarian diet.

I would never go for full on vegan or vegetarianism myself, mainly because I know that I am not capable of balancing broccoli and bananas until I have met my potassium and iron needs. Plus the amount of broccoli that I would have to eat until I could reach my calcium requirements would make me feel (and smell) a bit funny.

After someone commented about the G.I diet yesterday I am giving it some serious thought. It ties in well with a Mediterranean diet and will let me get in plenty of healthy saturated fats such as olive oil, flaxseed oil, brazil nuts...

I will most likely be offline this weekend because we are moving house!

 Comments

A:No alcohol
B:No bread
C:No carbs
D:No dairy
E: No extra sweets or fats
F: No fruit

So you are very restricted in terms of your food groups, however that does not mean that you are restricted altogether. The Ultimate New York Body Plan provides plenty of recipes, enough to last you two weeks and enough to prevent you from feeling as though your diet is becoming repetitive.

You cannot break free from the diet for a 'treat' at any point during the two week period. The Ultimate New York Body Plan is very strict in that sense, and much of David Kirsch's motivational talk is based on how you should not see bad foods as a treat and you should instead reward your body with good foods that don't come under the ABCDEF groups.

Much of the book features real stories and celebrity endorsements. These stories range from obese people to people wishing to drop two dress sizes before an event. It also has a two week exercise plan. These exercises are always based on 45 minutes toning and 45 minutes cardio each day. That is ALOT of exercise, but you can't really expect to drop two dress sizes without putting in some serious effort.

You also have a diary to write and you are encouraged to consider why you are dieting by David Kirsch prior to embarking on the diet itself.

By the end of the diet, you are a lot fitter, a lot slimmer and very very toned.

Pro's
Unlike the odd e-book diets you come across that make wild claims such as drop 18lbs in 3 days, The David Kirsch Ultimate New York Body Plan does meet up to its two dress sizes in two weeks claims.

You don't feel hungry and you don't get bored with your food choices, a common complaint that comes with a lot of diets.

You have celebrities like Elle Macpherson to look to for inspiration.

Cons
The exercise is intense, however there is a 'pre-diet' you should consider that is part of the book to stop the exercise from being too much.

You have to buy mini hand weights, a medicine ball and swiss toning ball to do the diet. However, if you are serious about weight loss and keeping toned, these products are essential anyway.

I would recommend The Ultimate New York Body Plan to anyone who wanted to drop two dress sizes very quickly. For anyone who wants to see weight loss following the plan it can still be done, but you may be better off buying some of David Kirschs other books to help you after you finish your two week phase on The Ultimate New York Body Plan as the post diet section of the book does not provide enough detail or support.

About 3 years before starting The Skinny Blog and embarking on my juice diet I tried Atkins and hated it.

I hated it mainly because I couldn't get in anywhere near the amount of veggies I wanted. This meant that my skin suffered badly, I have an olive complexion and so it was not the ideal diet for my skin. Then there were the headaches, the smell (you smell 'odd' to say the least) and the constant thirst that came with the increased levels of salt that are inevitable when you eat too much meat.

I blogged earlier last week that diets high in fat can lead to pancreatic cancer, this includes diets such as The Atkins Diet that are high in red meat intake.

Well today I found another BBC article that stated how Vegetarians are less likely to suffer from stomach, blood and bladder cancers! The study was based on 60,000 participants and was conducted in New Zealand and The UK.

This is another reason to try and squeeze in as much raw fruit and veg in to your diet and cut back on the meats! I honestly felt far more energised whilst juice dieting than compared to any other diet I had tried. That energy didn't go when I broke away from the juice diet and started my mediterranean diet, mainly because I kept at least once juice a day in.

So the myth that eating a mainly meat based diet is healthy can be dispelled! Far more benefits come from steering your diet towards having more fruit and more veggies than meat, and with this British heat wave a diet with a variety of juices chucked in whether you are doing a full on juice or not will be very refreshing!

This is great news for those women who are obese and trying to conceive, the report claims that a 5% loss in body weight increases blood flow to the womb by 19%, which in turn increases fertility.

This improved circulation can spur the ovaries to release eggs, increasing your monthly chance of conceiving.

However I can do a weigh in now

Last Weeks Weight: 10st/140lbs/64KG

This Weeks Weight: 9st 11lbs/137lbs/62.14KG

So I have lost 3lbs on my mediterranean diet (it wasn't really a full week of mediterranean dieting, but still)

I have no tape measure (all packed away), however I am happy to report that I fit a size 8 dress .

My blog is now going to be about weight maintenence and body toning. I feel that a UK size 8 is sufficient weight loss for me, I am quite a tall girl ( a little over 5'8) and so I don't want to look lanky!

I am so so pleased with myself. A UK 8/USA 4 is fine by me!

The Skinny Blog will still be about weight loss, celebrity weight loss, weight loss in the news, diet reporting etc...but my story will now be about body maintenance and toning, there is no point in being slim unless you are toned. I also mentioned yesterday about weight loss and a healthy body when you have an underactive thyroid gland, this is another issue i will be re-visiting.

A few weeks ago I went for some blood tests to determine the extent to which my underactive thyroid gland was preventing me from losing weight. My doctor got back to me earlier this evening and suggested some medication to rectify it...

I am against medication for weight loss and I try to avoid chemicals entering my body altogether. So I asked my doctor if there was another way forward and she suggested that I try and rectify the way my Thyroid Gland is acting by approaching my diet in a different way.

So I scoured the internet (again) for a diet that may help me continue my weight loss alongside my mediterranean diet. I decided that I would follow my doctors advice and change my diet to better my thyroid gland instead of just to lose weight. Prior to my thyroid gland being underactive I was a UK size 6/USA 2 and I had no problems keeping my weight down, with my underactive thyroid gland I have seen my dress size go up this year unexpectedly to a UK 14/USA 10 and then after weeks of hard work and juice dieting I managed to reach a size 8/10 (4/6 USA)

After visiting a few forums and asking a lot of questions I have come across an E-Book (I love e-books because you don't have to wait for them to be delivered) that is full of amazing advice about how to regulate your underactive thyroid gland:

It is full of a lot more information than my doctor has given me and is far more comprehensive than many of the books I have been reading from Amazon.

If you suspect you may have an underactive thyroid gland it is worth reading the blurb that comes before the book just to determine whether you do have a problem or not, it could mean the difference between you losing some weight and losing some serious weight!

Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle has been spotted weighing her food in a London restaurant as part of her portion control diet.

Portion control is an old and easy way to stay on top of your slim figure. There is a slightly less nutty way to do this in a restaurant though, you can just discretely ask the waiter if he can communicate your request to the kitchen, saving your dignity and your waist line at the same time.

It is also pretty easy to apply some gestimation to this, you can look at your food and decide whether or not you are going to over eat.

Despite her crazy approach to the Portion Control diet, Nadine does look amazing and is keeping her figure looking fantastic whislt in LA.

Katie Price is now back on British soil (and not spending much time with her kids) and keeping her body in shape by kick boxing.

Kick boxing is one of my favourite ways to shift some weight and tone, and although I am not Katies biggest fan in terms of her personality or parenting skills, I am a fan of her weight loss regime!

Over the past few years Lindsay Lohan has hit the headlines for something other than her acting skills: her fluctuating waist line. In the above pictures she looks fine in the first (a good curvy UK 12/US 8) and ill in the next.

It seems now that during her most recent birthday celebrations at the MGM Las Vegas Lindsay has found a weight and shape she is comfortable with, she is looking toned and athletic as opposed to underweight and emaciated.

Lets hope Lindsay keeps her weight to her ideal and does not slip back in to the anorexic state she once faced due to media pressure.

This move has faced criticism from those who have received such procedures in Derbyshire. One quote that made me laugh (and feel slightly angry) in the article this was featured in was that of a man saying 'If you are really desperate you should have it...otherwise you will keep putting on weight'.

This makes me laugh and makes me feel angry because I believe if you are that desperate you will lose the weight yourself. Weight loss surgery, unless you physically cannot stop eating (say like with Prada Willi syndrome) is unnecessary and dangerous. I mention this all the time, but there was a TV documentary called 'The Half Ton Hospital' on ITV where the obese patients simply restricted themselves to a 1200-1500 calorie a day diet and did basic exercises, the weight loss results were fantastic and not only did they not have to put their bodies under serious strain they also had the benefit of being able to indulge every once in a while once they lost the weight.

Another reason I am against weight loss surgery unless you are in desperate need of it is because of the cost to the UK's NHS both initially and then from future risks associated with the surgery. Why should those who can't control their eating habits take money away from those who have diseases we don't yet fully understand? Such as cancer, diabetes, AIDs.

So I for one am glad the The East Midlands national health care trust is ignoring government guide lines and instead focusing on encouraging healthy eating, they are 100% right when they say that we need to focus on prevention rather than on cure in this country and I believe that all NHS trusts should adopt the same stance. That may be a harsh view, but we need to focus our NHS budget on health care that will benefit the community, such as better maternity services, sex education, better state residential homes for the elderly...

It is not just in the best interests of the tax payer, it is also in the best interests of the obese individual to change their lifestyle. A gastric band is no better than a diet pill, you are simply relying on something other than your own motivation to reach your weight loss goals.

 Comments

Part of my Skinny Blog mission is to discourage any use of chemically bound dieting aids (such as phentermine) and un-known herbal aids (such as Hoodia) as they have most likely not received sufficient testing to guarantee that they will suit every individual safely, particularly as an over the counter product.

McKeith claims that drinking her dieting solution prior to bed time will stop fat from being absorbed and gathering on your body. The thing that makes me laugh about this is, a simple glass of skimmed milk or even a low fat yogurt can do the same thing and unless you are lactose intolerant you know you won't have any nasty side affects.

I think this is a slimming aid to avoid. Mainly because we are not aware of its side affects or it may not even work.

Well it turns out, high amounts of animal fat, red meat and dairy can lead to pancreatic cancer.

Read this study for more information

I am not by any means suggesting that people should cut red meat and dairy altogether, that is not what The Skinny Blog is set to do (no matter how badly people may interpret it), I am however saying that more veg, more fruit and a lot less carbs, red meat and dairy is a good diet and I am right. Some red meat is good, but it is far better to derive your fat sources from white meats, fish and healthy protein sources such as nuts.

Anyway, it is weigh in tomorrow and time for me to seriously think about how I want to tone!

I've got to say, Shenae looks fantastic, even after a long session at the gym, hair tied back and no make up!

Unfortunately we haven't all got the money or time to visit a gym regularly for 2 hour bursts just like Shenae does, however, it isn't completely impossible to integrate a few choice pieces of gym equipment in to our home (or even just one piece) to use as and when we need it:

Once I move house I am going to add a treadmill and rower to my home gym equipment. Out of all the pieces of home gym equipment I could choose to have, I would choose a treadmill above everything! I love the feeling of exhilaration that comes with a treadmill and they can be so easily stored away if you choose a fold up one.

I've spent all this time fussing over the difference between US and UK dress sizes that I haven't really given much thought to whether people measure their weight loss differently across the world, until someone commented to ask me to do some translating.

So here we go...

I began week 1 weighing 175 lbs, which is just under 80kg. I'm 5'8/68 inches/172cm's, which meant I was seriously over weight.

Over the following weeks I lost on average 6lbs a week (on one week I lost 5lb) which is 3kg.

I now weigh 10st, which is 140lb/64KG

I am hoping to reach 8st 13lbs which is 125lbs/56kg

I'll start updating The Skinny Blog in stones/pounds/KG. Talking to a friend of mine who is studying in The USA at the moment, we are apparently the only country who is still fixed on stones but trying to move slowly on to KG with the rest of Europe!

It is weigh in day tomorrow and the official start of my Mediterranean Diet, so I will be updating in all measurements!

 Comments

This recipe is particularly great for me as I am always talking about how we need to revert back to the days where basic meat, vegetables and potatoes were eaten.

You Need:

A drizzle of olive oil

1 Lamb Shoulder (about 1.5KG)

1 lemon cut in to wedges

sea salt to taste

1sp oregano

1 bay leaf

1 pinch of cinnamon

4 large potatoes cut in to 4

2-3 cherry tomatoes

1.Cut a piece of tin foil that is about 1/2 a metre in length, line a casserole dish with it with 1/2 covering the base and the other hanging over the edge.

2. Pre heat your oven to 150 degrees celcius.

3.Rub the lamb with the lemon wedges and place it in the dish. Sprinkle the salt, some freshly ground black pepper, oregano and cinnamon over the lamb.

4.Add the bay leaf and potatoes. Add the cherry tomatoes for colour.

5.Mix the ingredients together, cover with the tin foil and cook for 2-3 hours.

The recipe above is the standard recipe, but whenever I eat it I like to either cook it with a glass of red wine underneat the lamb or I open the tin foil and place some large chunks of feta cheese on top of the lamb and potatoes and let it bake for a few more minutes.

Early last month I began a juice diet. I had realised I was at least 14lbs over weight and could barely squeeze myself in to a UK 14. As someone who grew up a UK 6, I was horrified at this and decided that despite having had a baby I was too young (21) to just resign myself to not having the body I once knew and loved.

So I began juice dieting. I started with the Jordan 7lbs in 7 Days Super Juice Diet and lost 6lbs in the first week. I then moved on to a more customisable Juice Master juice diet and continued this for another 2 weeks, losing a further 6lbs every week. I then had a dieting break, tried Hoodia and hated it. So to give my body some respite I eventually settled on a high fibre diet just to ensure my digestive system remained healthy and gave myself a couple of weeks to think about my next dieting move.

I am now down to a UK size 8/10, which is a fantastic improvement. I haven't yet reached my goal weight of 8st 13lbs, I am just about down to 10st.

I have decided that my next dieting move needs to be about over all health and longevity. So my next diet will be: The Mediterranean diet.

I chose The Mediterranean diet because I need something that is sustainable and sensible. The Mediterranean diet will provide me with the nutrients I need to secure my long term dieting goals and will provide flexible dieting options.

So my blog will now be about my Mediterranean Diet , which will give me a lot more room to experiment with food and cooking, two things I love.

 Comments
