I went from a UK size 14 to a UK size 8 in a matter of months by juice dieting. The Skinny Blog is all about obtaining your dream body and keeping it. I will blog about diet news, celebrity weight loss, weight loss, body maintenance, toning and of course my own progress!

This blog is about being 'body beautiful', don't make assumptions based on the name. There are many posts on different diets, different dress sizes and favourable views on women of all healthy sizes. This blog is about MY desire to be a slim size and is in no way intended to disregard the fact that women can be attractive and happy at whatever size they choose for themselves.

All diets I carry out are embarked on after consulting a health professional, and I advise that anyone considering a diet featured here should do the same.

The Skinny Blog

<atom10:link xmlns:atom10="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom" rel="self" href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/TheSkinnyBlog" type="application/rss+xml" />

I'll be busy this weekend, so here are are some dieting news articles...

I will be a bit sparse on the blogging front for a few days, so here are some dieting news articles to keep you busy whilst I am away:

UK Dieters Paid £1 for £1 in Essex:

This new pilot scheme has me on the fence. On the one hand I feel it is a great incentive, on the other hand I do feel it could be dangerous for those who don't have professional guidance and may not know what they are doing. Read for more info and leave comments about how you feel about it!

A Healthy Diet in Pregnancy Makes For a Healthy Child:

I love this. A healthy diet in pregnancy should be common sense, but a lot of younger girls take eating for two literally and then fill their quota with bad calories. This is why I want to be a clinical specialist in teen pregnancy when I finish my midwifery degree, to educate on bits like this, breastfeeding etc. I think more women need to know that what you do whilst your child is in the womb can set the path for their future health. I just felt like sharing it because I feel passionate about balanced eating in pregnancy...however, I do think treats are needed too a pregnant woman needs cake as well as the healthy eating!

And thats it, I'm going to rush off and get stressed about moving house and The Skinny Blog will be back online properly in a few days

The majority of this Mayo Clinic endorsed diet revolves around the Greek version of mediterranean dieting. The Greeks are well known for their small amounts of meat and high levels of anti-oxidant rich fruits and veg. Small amounts of nuts, olive oil, healthy fats and red wine are encouraged on the diet (so long as your existing health conditions or age don't restrict you from consuming alcohol) as they are all known to lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer.

Your main sources of protein should come from fish, fish is high in omega-3 fatty acids, which lower your triglycerides and improve the health of your blood vessels.

Whole grain breads are encouraged as an important part of the diet. It is important that your carbohydrate sources are wholegrain as white carbohydrates do not contain the dietary fibre required to aid in digestion and are filled with corn starches and empty sugars.

Key Mediterranean Diet components include:

*Plenty of exercise
*Generous portions of fruit and vegetables
*Consuming healthy fats such as olive and canola oil
*Using herbs and spices as opposed to salt to flavour foods
*Eating small portions of nuts
*Drinking red wine in moderation (age and pre-existing health conditions allowing)
*Consuming very little red meat
*Eating shell fish at least twice a week (again, if you are allergic, obviously you should steer clear of this aspect)

The best bit about this diet is, it is Mayo Health Clinic endorsed. Very few diets get the holy grail of diet endorsements that is known as a Mayo Health Clinic endorsement, so you can be confident that any diet that does, is a healthy diet to choose.

I'm looking forward to carrying on more with this one and hopefully when I attempt to make a Mousakka with turkey mince instead of lamb mince this Sunday it won't taste odd!

 Comments

I don't want to blog about the benefits and then hide the risks just because I favour it, so here we go:

A study conducted by the Australians and Vitenamese based on 2700 participants has found that vegetarians have 5% less bone density than those who eat meat. This lack of bone density is worse for vegans, however those that conducted the study feel that the magnitude of the bone density was 'insignificant'.

Read the study here

The study also says that because of the rise of Osteoporosis in the west alongside the rise in vegetarians, there may be some 'issues that need resolving' in general with the vegetarian diet.

I would never go for full on vegan or vegetarianism myself, mainly because I know that I am not capable of balancing broccoli and bananas until I have met my potassium and iron needs. Plus the amount of broccoli that I would have to eat until I could reach my calcium requirements would make me feel (and smell) a bit funny.

After someone commented about the G.I diet yesterday I am giving it some serious thought. It ties in well with a Mediterranean diet and will let me get in plenty of healthy saturated fats such as olive oil, flaxseed oil, brazil nuts...

I will most likely be offline this weekend because we are moving house!

 Comments

A:No alcohol
B:No bread
C:No carbs
D:No dairy
E: No extra sweets or fats
F: No fruit

So you are very restricted in terms of your food groups, however that does not mean that you are restricted altogether. The Ultimate New York Body Plan provides plenty of recipes, enough to last you two weeks and enough to prevent you from feeling as though your diet is becoming repetitive.

You cannot break free from the diet for a 'treat' at any point during the two week period. The Ultimate New York Body Plan is very strict in that sense, and much of David Kirsch's motivational talk is based on how you should not see bad foods as a treat and you should instead reward your body with good foods that don't come under the ABCDEF groups.

Much of the book features real stories and celebrity endorsements. These stories range from obese people to people wishing to drop two dress sizes before an event. It also has a two week exercise plan. These exercises are always based on 45 minutes toning and 45 minutes cardio each day. That is ALOT of exercise, but you can't really expect to drop two dress sizes without putting in some serious effort.

You also have a diary to write and you are encouraged to consider why you are dieting by David Kirsch prior to embarking on the diet itself.

By the end of the diet, you are a lot fitter, a lot slimmer and very very toned.

Pro's
Unlike the odd e-book diets you come across that make wild claims such as drop 18lbs in 3 days, The David Kirsch Ultimate New York Body Plan does meet up to its two dress sizes in two weeks claims.

You don't feel hungry and you don't get bored with your food choices, a common complaint that comes with a lot of diets.

You have celebrities like Elle Macpherson to look to for inspiration.

Cons
The exercise is intense, however there is a 'pre-diet' you should consider that is part of the book to stop the exercise from being too much.

You have to buy mini hand weights, a medicine ball and swiss toning ball to do the diet. However, if you are serious about weight loss and keeping toned, these products are essential anyway.

I would recommend The Ultimate New York Body Plan to anyone who wanted to drop two dress sizes very quickly. For anyone who wants to see weight loss following the plan it can still be done, but you may be better off buying some of David Kirschs other books to help you after you finish your two week phase on The Ultimate New York Body Plan as the post diet section of the book does not provide enough detail or support.

About 3 years before starting The Skinny Blog and embarking on my juice diet I tried Atkins and hated it.

I hated it mainly because I couldn't get in anywhere near the amount of veggies I wanted. This meant that my skin suffered badly, I have an olive complexion and so it was not the ideal diet for my skin. Then there were the headaches, the smell (you smell 'odd' to say the least) and the constant thirst that came with the increased levels of salt that are inevitable when you eat too much meat.

I blogged earlier last week that diets high in fat can lead to pancreatic cancer, this includes diets such as The Atkins Diet that are high in red meat intake.

Well today I found another BBC article that stated how Vegetarians are less likely to suffer from stomach, blood and bladder cancers! The study was based on 60,000 participants and was conducted in New Zealand and The UK.

This is another reason to try and squeeze in as much raw fruit and veg in to your diet and cut back on the meats! I honestly felt far more energised whilst juice dieting than compared to any other diet I had tried. That energy didn't go when I broke away from the juice diet and started my mediterranean diet, mainly because I kept at least once juice a day in.

So the myth that eating a mainly meat based diet is healthy can be dispelled! Far more benefits come from steering your diet towards having more fruit and more veggies than meat, and with this British heat wave a diet with a variety of juices chucked in whether you are doing a full on juice or not will be very refreshing!

This is great news for those women who are obese and trying to conceive, the report claims that a 5% loss in body weight increases blood flow to the womb by 19%, which in turn increases fertility.

This improved circulation can spur the ovaries to release eggs, increasing your monthly chance of conceiving.

The article is well worth a read, particularly if you are currently over weight and trying to conceive.

However I can do a weigh in now

Last Weeks Weight: 10st/140lbs/64KG

This Weeks Weight: 9st 11lbs/137lbs/62.14KG

So I have lost 3lbs on my mediterranean diet (it wasn't really a full week of mediterranean dieting, but still)

I have no tape measure (all packed away), however I am happy to report that I fit a size 8 dress .

My blog is now going to be about weight maintenence and body toning. I feel that a UK size 8 is sufficient weight loss for me, I am quite a tall girl ( a little over 5'8) and so I don't want to look lanky!

I am so so pleased with myself. A UK 8/USA 4 is fine by me!

The Skinny Blog will still be about weight loss, celebrity weight loss, weight loss in the news, diet reporting etc...but my story will now be about body maintenance and toning, there is no point in being slim unless you are toned. I also mentioned yesterday about weight loss and a healthy body when you have an underactive thyroid gland, this is another issue i will be re-visiting.

A few weeks ago I went for some blood tests to determine the extent to which my underactive thyroid gland was preventing me from losing weight. My doctor got back to me earlier this evening and suggested some medication to rectify it...

I am against medication for weight loss and I try to avoid chemicals entering my body altogether. So I asked my doctor if there was another way forward and she suggested that I try and rectify the way my Thyroid Gland is acting by approaching my diet in a different way.

So I scoured the internet (again) for a diet that may help me continue my weight loss alongside my mediterranean diet. I decided that I would follow my doctors advice and change my diet to better my thyroid gland instead of just to lose weight. Prior to my thyroid gland being underactive I was a UK size 6/USA 2 and I had no problems keeping my weight down, with my underactive thyroid gland I have seen my dress size go up this year unexpectedly to a UK 14/USA 10 and then after weeks of hard work and juice dieting I managed to reach a size 8/10 (4/6 USA)

After visiting a few forums and asking a lot of questions I have come across an E-Book (I love e-books because you don't have to wait for them to be delivered) that is full of amazing advice about how to regulate your underactive thyroid gland:

It is full of a lot more information than my doctor has given me and is far more comprehensive than many of the books I have been reading from Amazon.

If you suspect you may have an underactive thyroid gland it is worth reading the blurb that comes before the book just to determine whether you do have a problem or not, it could mean the difference between you losing some weight and losing some serious weight!

Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle has been spotted weighing her food in a London restaurant as part of her portion control diet.

Portion control is an old and easy way to stay on top of your slim figure. There is a slightly less nutty way to do this in a restaurant though, you can just discretely ask the waiter if he can communicate your request to the kitchen, saving your dignity and your waist line at the same time.

It is also pretty easy to apply some gestimation to this, you can look at your food and decide whether or not you are going to over eat.

Despite her crazy approach to the Portion Control diet, Nadine does look amazing and is keeping her figure looking fantastic whislt in LA.

Katie Price is now back on British soil (and not spending much time with her kids) and keeping her body in shape by kick boxing.

Kick boxing is one of my favourite ways to shift some weight and tone, and although I am not Katies biggest fan in terms of her personality or parenting skills, I am a fan of her weight loss regime!

Over the past few years Lindsay Lohan has hit the headlines for something other than her acting skills: her fluctuating waist line. In the above pictures she looks fine in the first (a good curvy UK 12/US 8) and ill in the next.

It seems now that during her most recent birthday celebrations at the MGM Las Vegas Lindsay has found a weight and shape she is comfortable with, she is looking toned and athletic as opposed to underweight and emaciated.

Lets hope Lindsay keeps her weight to her ideal and does not slip back in to the anorexic state she once faced due to media pressure.

This move has faced criticism from those who have received such procedures in Derbyshire. One quote that made me laugh (and feel slightly angry) in the article this was featured in was that of a man saying 'If you are really desperate you should have it...otherwise you will keep putting on weight'.

This makes me laugh and makes me feel angry because I believe if you are that desperate you will lose the weight yourself. Weight loss surgery, unless you physically cannot stop eating (say like with Prada Willi syndrome) is unnecessary and dangerous. I mention this all the time, but there was a TV documentary called 'The Half Ton Hospital' on ITV where the obese patients simply restricted themselves to a 1200-1500 calorie a day diet and did basic exercises, the weight loss results were fantastic and not only did they not have to put their bodies under serious strain they also had the benefit of being able to indulge every once in a while once they lost the weight.

Another reason I am against weight loss surgery unless you are in desperate need of it is because of the cost to the UK's NHS both initially and then from future risks associated with the surgery. Why should those who can't control their eating habits take money away from those who have diseases we don't yet fully understand? Such as cancer, diabetes, AIDs.

So I for one am glad the The East Midlands national health care trust is ignoring government guide lines and instead focusing on encouraging healthy eating, they are 100% right when they say that we need to focus on prevention rather than on cure in this country and I believe that all NHS trusts should adopt the same stance. That may be a harsh view, but we need to focus our NHS budget on health care that will benefit the community, such as better maternity services, sex education, better state residential homes for the elderly...

It is not just in the best interests of the tax payer, it is also in the best interests of the obese individual to change their lifestyle. A gastric band is no better than a diet pill, you are simply relying on something other than your own motivation to reach your weight loss goals.

 Comments

Part of my Skinny Blog mission is to discourage any use of chemically bound dieting aids (such as phentermine) and un-known herbal aids (such as Hoodia) as they have most likely not received sufficient testing to guarantee that they will suit every individual safely, particularly as an over the counter product.

McKeith claims that drinking her dieting solution prior to bed time will stop fat from being absorbed and gathering on your body. The thing that makes me laugh about this is, a simple glass of skimmed milk or even a low fat yogurt can do the same thing and unless you are lactose intolerant you know you won't have any nasty side affects.

I think this is a slimming aid to avoid. Mainly because we are not aware of its side affects or it may not even work.

Well it turns out, high amounts of animal fat, red meat and dairy can lead to pancreatic cancer.

Read this study for more information

I am not by any means suggesting that people should cut red meat and dairy altogether, that is not what The Skinny Blog is set to do (no matter how badly people may interpret it), I am however saying that more veg, more fruit and a lot less carbs, red meat and dairy is a good diet and I am right. Some red meat is good, but it is far better to derive your fat sources from white meats, fish and healthy protein sources such as nuts.

Anyway, it is weigh in tomorrow and time for me to seriously think about how I want to tone!

I've got to say, Shenae looks fantastic, even after a long session at the gym, hair tied back and no make up!

Unfortunately we haven't all got the money or time to visit a gym regularly for 2 hour bursts just like Shenae does, however, it isn't completely impossible to integrate a few choice pieces of gym equipment in to our home (or even just one piece) to use as and when we need it:

Once I move house I am going to add a treadmill and rower to my home gym equipment. Out of all the pieces of home gym equipment I could choose to have, I would choose a treadmill above everything! I love the feeling of exhilaration that comes with a treadmill and they can be so easily stored away if you choose a fold up one.

I've spent all this time fussing over the difference between US and UK dress sizes that I haven't really given much thought to whether people measure their weight loss differently across the world, until someone commented to ask me to do some translating.

So here we go...

I began week 1 weighing 175 lbs, which is just under 80kg. I'm 5'8/68 inches/172cm's, which meant I was seriously over weight.

Over the following weeks I lost on average 6lbs a week (on one week I lost 5lb) which is 3kg.

I now weigh 10st, which is 140lb/64KG

I am hoping to reach 8st 13lbs which is 125lbs/56kg

I'll start updating The Skinny Blog in stones/pounds/KG. Talking to a friend of mine who is studying in The USA at the moment, we are apparently the only country who is still fixed on stones but trying to move slowly on to KG with the rest of Europe!

It is weigh in day tomorrow and the official start of my Mediterranean Diet, so I will be updating in all measurements!

 Comments

This recipe is particularly great for me as I am always talking about how we need to revert back to the days where basic meat, vegetables and potatoes were eaten.

You Need:

A drizzle of olive oil

1 Lamb Shoulder (about 1.5KG)

1 lemon cut in to wedges

sea salt to taste

1sp oregano

1 bay leaf

1 pinch of cinnamon

4 large potatoes cut in to 4

2-3 cherry tomatoes

1.Cut a piece of tin foil that is about 1/2 a metre in length, line a casserole dish with it with 1/2 covering the base and the other hanging over the edge.

2. Pre heat your oven to 150 degrees celcius.

3.Rub the lamb with the lemon wedges and place it in the dish. Sprinkle the salt, some freshly ground black pepper, oregano and cinnamon over the lamb.

4.Add the bay leaf and potatoes. Add the cherry tomatoes for colour.

5.Mix the ingredients together, cover with the tin foil and cook for 2-3 hours.

The recipe above is the standard recipe, but whenever I eat it I like to either cook it with a glass of red wine underneat the lamb or I open the tin foil and place some large chunks of feta cheese on top of the lamb and potatoes and let it bake for a few more minutes.

Early last month I began a juice diet. I had realised I was at least 14lbs over weight and could barely squeeze myself in to a UK 14. As someone who grew up a UK 6, I was horrified at this and decided that despite having had a baby I was too young (21) to just resign myself to not having the body I once knew and loved.

So I began juice dieting. I started with the Jordan 7lbs in 7 Days Super Juice Diet and lost 6lbs in the first week. I then moved on to a more customisable Juice Master juice diet and continued this for another 2 weeks, losing a further 6lbs every week. I then had a dieting break, tried Hoodia and hated it. So to give my body some respite I eventually settled on a high fibre diet just to ensure my digestive system remained healthy and gave myself a couple of weeks to think about my next dieting move.

I am now down to a UK size 8/10, which is a fantastic improvement. I haven't yet reached my goal weight of 8st 13lbs, I am just about down to 10st.

I have decided that my next dieting move needs to be about over all health and longevity. So my next diet will be: The Mediterranean diet.

I chose The Mediterranean diet because I need something that is sustainable and sensible. The Mediterranean diet will provide me with the nutrients I need to secure my long term dieting goals and will provide flexible dieting options.

So my blog will now be about my Mediterranean Diet , which will give me a lot more room to experiment with food and cooking, two things I love.

Quite often these weight loss products cite their 'natural' benefits as a means of encouraging users to take them.

Unfortunately Hoodia does not hold any more benefits than natural herbs and remedies that can be found, what is even more unfortunate is, there is no way of gauging whether or not Hoodia will have a negative affect on your body as it has not been prominent in western society for long enough to make a clear judgement as to whether or not it has any damaging affects.

Korean Ginseng however is a cheaper vitamin that can be used to aid your diet. Whilst Korean Ginseng will not suppress appetite or melt fat with magical chemical compounds, it has be known to increase mental awareness and energy, which in turn will aid in dieting determination and provide a much needed natural energy boost during your exercise routine.

Korean Ginseng not only aids you in your dieting and exercise plans, it has also been known to reduce hot flushes in menopausal women and reduce the symptoms of PMT. Some women also use Korean Ginseng as a means of boosting their partners fertility when trying to conceive!

Korean Ginseng can be found in a local vitamin store or can be bulk purchased on the net. Vitamins Direct provide low cost vitamins and have great offers such as £7.50 off every £50 spent. If you were to make the most of that offer you would practically be receiving a free bottle of Korean Ginseng!

 Comments

So Beth Ditto gets annoyed when she sees skinny girls dressed 'badly'. I'm not really sure that someone who is her size and feels it is okay to don clinging gold suits for a TV ad can comment on what does and what does not look good, but there you go.

She also feels that her body 'is the norm'. It isn't. Her body is something you achieve through an extremely unhealthy lifestyle. It is okay to be her size if that is what you are comfortable with for yourself, but to put across the message that it is okay to eat Mcdonalds until your weight baloons and your cholesterol rockets when you are famous is not good.

I think Beth Ditto is an attractive woman, but as I have mentioned before I don't understand why she is held in high esteem for saying things like 'I think it's really great to take up alot of space'. Her message is as negative as Nicole Richies in the sense that they both encourage extreme eating habits that are not healthy for the young girls that may look up to them.

I just hope these messages don't encourage others to adopt a far from healthy lifestyle.

 Comments

She was the same height as I am now, 5'8 and her waist was 23 inches. In the 50's and 60's, before the emergence of junk food, that was the norm. It was also classed as a size 10 UK. Now if your waist is 23 inches wide and you stand at 5'8 you are automatically an anorexic who is in need of a brief stint in rehab.

So in the 1950's was my grandma anorexic? No. She wasn't. She ate three meals a day and that was it. Three meals balanced with protein and vegetables, her carbs always coming from potatoes or bread.

Over the past few days there has been a lot of extremely negative publicity about what is now called a size 0. I will admit, there are models on the run way that are in serious need of a good meal, however to completely dismiss the idea that you can be a size 0 and not be anorexic is not fair to those who are naturally a size 0.

So when Stella Mccartney and Burberry responded to an anti size 0 circular sent to them that claimed they should not be making clothes for those with a 23'' waist, they stated that their sample sizes were reasonable. They were right, their sample sizes are reasonable, although I do believe that they should be sending sample sizes up to the current UK average size, which is a 16.

I am of the school of thought that our cat walk models don't provide a fair representation of UK sizing, but then neither do UK high streets. I think it is time that Stella Mccartney put on a show that saw sizes 4-16 walking down the runway during London fashion week and more high street stores need to admit that not every individual that is a size 0 is anorexic and actually stock a UK 4. It needs to work both ways, women of all healthy sizes need to be represented in the couture and high street fashion industry and we need to stop gaping in horror at the mention of the words 'size 0' or 'plus size'.

The glorification of either size 0 or plus size has now led to girls and women everywhere feeling that they are too fat or too thin...or maybe somewhere in between. If we could go back to that 50's and 60's mindset, the era that saw Twiggy and Marilyn Monroe being equally gorgeous at a size 0 and size 16 respectively maybe we could stop blowing clothes sizes out of proportion and feel comfortable in whatever sized skin we opt to wear.

In my size 6 (US 2) days I would constantly get glares from arm chair expert shop assistants who believed I was too skinny and snide comments from the many girls who did not like me in college. I was naturally that size. Now I am a UK 8/10 and aiming to be a UK 8. I am doing it in a healthy way and since losing weight I have felt a lot happier. On the other side of things I have a close friend who wants to put weight on because she simply 'wants boobs'. Neither of us should receive criticism for this. I just hope that one day we can exercise female unity in our society and support each other no matter what healthy size we choose to be.

Earlier this year Kerry Katona began hitting the headlines for all of the right reasons. She had ditched her husband Mark Croft and had become a size 8 thanks to £15,000 worth of weight loss surgery.

Unfortunately for Kerry and like many others who choose weight loss surgery, her gorgeous body was short lived. In a matter of months she has gone from a size 8 to a size 16, which is not only unfortunate but it is also dangerous.

What is sad is, Kerry could have easily lost the weight through dieting and exercise and by this point be a size 8 naturally. Her sense of achievement would mean that she would be less likely to fall foul to junk food dinners and fatty snacks.

At the moment, Kerry is partying in Magaluf with her husband Mark Croft. Onlookers have reported seeing her eat as many as 3 junk food meals in an hour and a half. Had Kerry taken control of her diet and body image without resorting to surgery she may have defeated her Junk Food cravings.

Hopefully Kerry will be able to lose weight naturally soon and take charge of her health again.

We are all well aware of how gorgeous Italian women are, their skin glows and their frames are petite. The Mediterranean Diet consists of small amounts of protein, lots of vegetables, lots of Olive oil and a little bit of wine.

The study conducted in Athens regarding The Mediterranean Diet has found that eating more vegetables and adding extra olive oil to your diet will increase your life spans longevity. Extra vegetables and olive oil are fantastic for weight loss. You can try adding extra olive oil to your diet by drizzling a small amount over your salads and replacing any other oils used with it.

The Mediterranean Diet would be a great way to break from a juice diet plan or it could even be your long term diet once you have lost your desired weight through juice dieting.

Courtney Love, widow of Nirvana star Kurt Cobane shocked on lookers in New York City to file court papers regarding her credit card debts.

Courtney Love illustrates the difference between being thin and being ill. If you want to lose weight it is important to not take it to these sort of extremes. Courtney does not look sexy, she looks ill and will appeal to no one. She is clearly starving herself and the lack of nutrients when you starve yourself leads to skin that is sallow and grey.

On that note, it is important to make sure you get your vitamins any way you can. Whilst I was juicing I managed to take in more <a href="Shop for health products at eVitamins! <img src=">vitamins than I had ever taken in before, my skin glowed and my acne cleared. Now that I am on a juice diet break I am taking <a href="Shop for health products at eVitamins! <img src=">vitamins, so far I have had one week away from juice dieting and my skin is still fantastic, in fact it may even be improving!

So I can't stress enough that you need to stay balanced, get your<a href="Shop for health products at eVitamins! <img src="> vitamins and treat your body as a temple that will improve, not a shell that you must destroy.

 Comments

More often than not when you are dieting at home you lack a support base, having a weight loss buddy is a great way to get moral support and healthy encouragement.

So I went on one of my google searches to find the best weight loss buddy programme available, and the one I found was quite aptly named <a href=""http://www.fusionquest.com/cgi-bin/main/hit1.cgi?client=weightloss&aflt=ljmckeever1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Eweightlossbuddy%2Ecom"">www.weightlossbuddy.com.

So I am going to sign up to <a href=""http://www.fusionquest.com/cgi-bin/main/hit1.cgi?client=weightloss&aflt=ljmckeever1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Eweightlossbuddy%2Ecom"">weightlossbuddy.com and hopefully find a weight loss buddy to help me meet my goals! I have always found that when I have someone to help me meet my goals the element of healthy competition has spurred me to meet my weight loss goals.

<a href=""http://www.fusionquest.com/cgi-bin/main/hit1.cgi?client=weightloss&aflt=ljmckeever1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Eweightlossbuddy%2Ecom"">Weightlossbuddy.com offers a free trial, I strongly urge anyone looking to find a weight loss buddy to try it!

Thanks to celebrities such as Nicole Kidman springing back in to shape within a matter of weeks, many mothers are running themselves ragged attempting to achieve the same massive weight loss resutls. What they are forgetting is that women such as Nicole Kidman have an entourage of nannies, assistants, cleaners, managers, fitness instructors, stylists and dietitians that help them achieve their weight loss goals.

For us mere mortals it is important to not force our bodies to fall out of shape. I have always liked the rule 'it takes 9 months for your body to fall out of shape, it'll take 9 to get back in'.

What most pregnant women don't realise is that if they eat healthy during pregnancy the majority of the weight they put on will not be down to themselves, but down to larger breasts, amniotic fluid, the placenta and of course the baby. The majority of the weight will shift itself naturally.

It is important when you are newly post natal to not push yourself too hard. Your body is worn out, your abdominal muscles are stretched and damaged and you have a baby to breast feed and care of. Your body for a couple of months at least can wait.So your best bet is to eat well, breastfeed (which burns up to 800 calories a day) and do the busy mummy stuff because that in itself will help you drop the pounds.

When I had my daughter the majority of the weight dropped off within weeks. The weight that I put on afterwards was the problem. That is something I am now working on with exercise and a combination of juice dieting and low carb dieting, however this was not an approach I would have taken when I had just given birth. It is important to allow your body to repair and then you can work on your image.

 Comments

But I am having a bout of bad luck with this one, first YouTube does not want to work for me and then my scales broke.

Yesterday they were giving a reading of 8 stone, which I knew was not right. So I visited boots and use their scales instead to get the following reading.

New weight: 10 st 0lbs! That means I have lost 2 st 7lbs since beginning my dieting journey.

New clothes size: UK 8-10, however, as mentioned before my bum is still a problem and is preventing me from wearing my UK 8 altogether.

I am very pleased that I have reached 10 st. For the first time in 2 years I am feeling practically normal. It was very hard putting on weight during pregnancy, losing a bit and then developing an under active thyroid gland and back tracking. Losing weight does give me confidence and I am too young (21) to resign myself to ditching my old body and settling for a new one.

This all now means that I can move on to phase 2 of my diet, which is toning up whilst losing weight. As I mentioned before, the belly dancing is having a great affect and hopefully today YouTube will let me embed some Bellydancing For Fat Burning videos that I have been trying. I don't know why I didn't think of belly dancing before, the movements are great for your abs!

So if all is well with YouTube today I will be posting back.

Brooke Roberston was so desperate to lose her post pregnancy weight that she dieted on 10-14 cans of red bull in one day, only eating a handful of dry cereal occasionally to prevent herself from collapsing.

Robertson did have success, she went from around 100KG to around 50KG. Following her heart attack, Robertson has been advised to stay away from the drink, but despite this she occasionally has a can and describes herself as feeling shakey afterwards.

The thing that is very sad about this story is that there is a strong possibility that young women may see 'The Red Bull Diet' as an acceptable form of losing weight. Although it is a fast weight loss method, it is not an acceptable one. High levels of caffeine are not healthy, you run the risk of your menstrual cycle stopping and developing osteoporosis due to lack of nutrients and like this woman you may have a heart attack.

So if you are considering The Red Bull Diet, STEER CLEAR! It is a no go!

I think that can be attributed to my combination of belly dancing and running. I did find some more belly dancing videos, however, You Tube is not my friend today and keeps crashing so they will be posted most likely tomorrow.

I will be weighing in tomorrow to see how my weight loss has gone. For the first time in ages my stomach feels 'tight'. It is not as toned as I would like it to be, however I am getting there.

It is officially less than a week until the big family event that I would love to be a UK 8 for. I have decided to not steer away from what i am doing at the minute. I'm loving my stomach so much that I don't want to steer off course and ruin any progress that I may have made with my change in diet, so the juice dieting will not be re-visited tomorrow, but it most likely will be in the very near future.

I may also be getting brave enough to take some pictures and post them....we shall see.
