DIT Graduate Show 2012
Opening – Thursday 7th of June @ 19:00
Daily – Friday to Sunday 9:00 to 19:00
Venue – The Station Building, Hatch St. (Located behind the Pod on Harcourt Street)

“This year in Visual Communications DIT there is a strong emphasis on print and image making while there is also few doing web design and examining the growing field of app design. One of the briefs challenged us to consider the relationship between print and digital. Emerging from this there are several interesting projects which explore how designers navigate the reader through the content. A number of students also explore illustration and photography, creating images with distinct styles that have been developed over the last four years. Throughout the grad show there is thought provoking and innovative work, examining current themes being explored in design today with plenty new revelations transpiring.”

“For most, the end of studies gives us all an opportunity to explore in depth some of the self-directed projects that were intiated this year in college, and allows us room to improve our portfolios. It will be both challenging and exciting to have the freedom to research and design in a way that’s self structured. Some are hoping to travel to gain experience of the broader graphic design field outside of Ireland and others will be searching for relevant internships here – some have already gained places on these. As a group we hope to stay in touch with each other to discuss ideas, and learn from each others experience. Masters are options for some of us, within which there are a few who are hoping to go further affield into areas such as Typography and Concept Art for Film.” - 4th Year Student Emma Conway

Calling all short film-makers! The Small Print needs you!

The Small Print are working on a new project, part of which involves curating a mini festival of short films and animations. It’s a touring film festival that will be set in pubs and bars and we are looking for you to submit work!

SILENT SHORTS (We are calling this festival SILENT SHORTS, as viewers will watch your films with wireless headphones.)

The Small Print are going on a road trip in upcoming months and we are bringing our projector, screen and favourite short films with us. We are curating a small touring film festival in 30 bars in Dublin and across the country and we are looking for short films & animations to showcase. It will be a part of a series of film themed events taking place from late January through to late June.

We are looking for anything as long as it’s under 5 minutes – animation, documentary, drama and experimental. Apart from the touring screenings we will also have a mini site that will showcase your work further.

Drop us a line if you’re interested and we’ll send you more details.

After an exciting run of bizarre, ridiculous and rarely edifying Midnight Movies HOLLYWOOD BABYLON is finally ready for our EXHIBITION of re-imagined film posters. They have worked with some of our favorite designers and artists who have created exclusive limited run posters for films screened at Hollywood Babylon. Each of these limited run screen-printed posters, created with the help of Tiny Little Horse will be available to buy on the night (framed or unframed).

Also on the night:

The Best of ‘TRAILER TRASH’

Alongside the movies they have been digging up the most hilarious, weird and just plain ill-conceived film trailers we could find (Tiptoes anybody?). They’ll be showing a selection of the best of these on the night.

and

A SUPER 8 B-Movie spectacular

Dennis Kenny has dug-up another selection of rarely seen super 8 shorts including sixties sci-fi digest films, spy capers and dinosaur bikini pictures. Not to be goddamn missed.

There’ll also be drinks, music, popcorn and fun.
